without Ann Annie and Lightbath, I doubt I ever get into modular. And without DivKid, I'd have no idea what I was doing in modular. Thanks to everyone involved in this extremely awesome interview :)
Hey Ben your questions are always so intelligent and you have a very natural way of interviewing people. Your knowledge and experience sure show. Just wanted to mention that. Cheerio!
Thank you Ben and Ann for this Video.A dream has become Reality.I was born in 1966 and grew up with the sounds of all the first commercially produced Synthesizers.I remember also that i was fascinated by radio transmissions here in germany which werde made by the experimental studio of the WDR here in cologne. These programs were very rare seeded. A modular was far beyond to be called affordable but now it is possible for everyone to enter this wonderful world. I appreciate also the work of the undervalued Radiophonic Workshop which despite of the lack of modular Synthesizers at that time already produced a lot of great stuff only with the use of tape machines, slicing tape and the slowdown or speedingup the machines(thank you Delia). The Synthesizer Community and especially the modular synthesizer community is extremely open and tolerant . It is an example how the focus on creativity with passion can pass any differences between peoples and cultures. Peter from the the Black Forest,Germany
This was excellent. Very interesting conversation by two people who clearly knew what they were talking about! And regarding a comment near the end there, I just wanted to say that I play piano along with bizarre modular patches pretty often. Nowadays modular kind of feels like work that I have to put in, so getting back to the ol black & whites is a kind of escape / relaxation mechanism. So even if it doesn't seem to make sense to accompany a bizarre patch with a grand piano voice, I do it anyway cuz it feels good to me. I generally record everything I do in my studio, even (especially) these "start playing piano and suddenly it's an hour later and you've somehow recorded over a gig of continuous piano alongside a weird modular patch that became maddeningly repetitive about 30 minutes ago" jams, and I almost always seem to find at least a couple of sections of beauty and wonder when I listen to the results later.
This was awesome! Thank you so much for this insightful and in-depth conversation. Big fan of both of you. Man, and I need to get into modular synthesis 😊❤️🙌
Oh man, and if you thought pedals were expensive! ;) I'm very cautiously getting inspired to get a case about the size of the one in this video. Luckily the DIY community for eurorack is vast. Hope you get some fun stuff!
This is a fantastic video. Just saw him perform last night in Los Angeles. Amazing show by the way. But super helpful to hear him talk about his process and walk through everything.
You guys are amazing together in this. There's a passion you both share. My musical knowledge is limited, but I love how you both understand each others way of thinking.
thanks Conrad, I appreciate that. It's a pleasure to be able to capture people sharing their process. Nice when people dig back a bit on the channel too (there's LOADS of videos).
So this was such an ispiring video with Ann Annie from all levels..to see who's behind the music, and his music is sooo beautiful..it is incouraging to see how he progressed, and the journey, and helps us non modual yet users feel like OK..slowly slowly is OK lol......so thank you Ann Annie!....I did wish ..or maybe you did and he didn't want to say how he came up with name? Because well lol...being a girl every one assume I'm a boy ..so it was great to be on the other end of err ..lol..oh btw can I borrow that sticker .."face for radio"😝😝😎
TSR has introduced me to a load of new content to watch. Really like your work Divkid. Also looking forward to exploring Eli's channel. All this modular looks dangerously expensive (and endless)!
I can relate so much with the part about sweeping the filter on the Mother 32. The first time I did a filter sweep with the Moog MF-101 LP Filter I was HOOKED and in love. Got the Mother 32 shortly after, had it not been for the MF-101 I doubt I would have ever bought a synth.
apart from the beautiful music as always from Eli, this was a really interesting and educational chat and helped me clarify some thoughts on where my own one row 100U case might go. Cheers as always for putting the time in!
Really really a brilliant masterclass video. Very interesting to hear your both thoughts about modular and how to perform it. Just talked with one friend same same subjects. Really enjoyed this
@@annannie It's a really special series. I've been a fan since I played Zelda 2 in first grade. Many younger friends have had similar bonding experience with others in the series. Also thanks for the interview!
I’m glad to know someone else never uses the cue on the rosie. Love the module but when I’m playing live I’m too focused/terrified/enthralled in the moment to look ahead
dude! everything that kid said was exactly what i felt and still feel "acquiring pedals" i was a guitarist that wanted to play synth for like 16 years... and i didnt know it lol
Just going to sit on the stairs and go aaaaah. Lovely
hahahaha thats the best comment ive seen honda, well done you've outdone yourself

What an excellent discussion - thanks for making this

Lovely performance. I love to hear about how others got started into music/synths.

This is *magic*. Those sounds are literally what I strive for!

Wow, I must be getting old... Volca as a first synth...
I love Ann Annie music very inspiring, reminds me north Indian classical music.
Just rewatched a dozen Annannie pieces and ended up here. A good morning.
Yes yes and yes Ann Annie is my favorite!
Brennan Fowler Mine too!
Ann Annie is singlehandedly responsible for me buying a red tolex modular case. Thanks a lot.
So nice to hear people who know their stuff so well but still talking about it in such a comprehensible way that even I understand what is said.
What a lovely relaxed and engaging conversation. I like the pace of it very much!

Great having an interview with one of the greats synth composers. Many thanks!
Rings and Clouds.. Awesome!
Nice we finally see the man behind the modular. Superb to put a face to the mastery of eurorack.

Ann Annie is one of my favourite modular artists, and showed the potential magic of dual rings. Thanks so much for this!
Yeah I wasn't even looking into modular when I first saw those videos, but once I did, the sound of Rings became the sound of modular in my mind.
Love it! Yessss boys ❤️
Finally had time to watch this! Awesome performance and interview!!! =)
When i saw that Ann Annie was also going to be at TSR event This is exactly what i hoped you would do. Great Interveiw, Great Sounds. Nice one!

Awesome to see a different musicality applied to modular.
fantastic interview! Love you broke down all of the different voices and processes.
two of my favorite modular personalities. I wish the interview portion and the music portion could have been twice as long
Amazing Ann Annie, wow cool. Thanks.
Super inspiring. So excited to see AA play SF in the not too distant future.
see ya there!

Such good music and a lovely person! production on these is flawless!!
