Just wanted to tell you that I watch a lot of reaction channels. But I really like your personality. You're one of my favs. I'm a retired vet, BTW and I appreciate your acknowledgement. It's not falling on deaf ears. Keep up the great work!
I was eating a delicious cheeseburger my dad had grilled when that episode aired...not the best moment to have Star Trek suddenly go all David Cronenberg on me.
Conspiracy is so unique for Star Trek Next Generation! Love it. I like the Neutral Zone too. But near the end, security let the civilian on the bridge long after Picard told them to take him away.
Courtney, you are absolutely right in how lucky she was to find records about her family considering that the chain could've been broken by the devestation of W.W. III in the 90s.
I'm old enough to have seen this when it first aired. I was just a kid then and I accepted it without question, but now I appreciate what incredible practical work it was just on the Remmick scene. Insane talent, probably not possible these days.
Once again, Ron Jones comes through with a great score for “The Neutral Zone”. His 4-note theme for the Romulans will always stick in my head. Kinda tense, and almost eerie.
This last episode starts a new story arc that will continue into the movies. ( Introduced a new villain ) Fun fact the picture of her lady's descendant is the producer of the TV show
I'm loving the reactions, loving the pace and even though season 2 is still sort of "testing the waters" for the new cast, the character development that occurs throughout the season make all the episodes and seasons worth watching.
A "pit woofie" is a groupie that chases after race car drivers. Most of my friends are Braves fans, and I can't stand them. So, I've always enjoyed that dig Sonny takes at them about always finding ways to lose.
Great reaction! I remember being shocked at the size of the Romulan Warbird in comparison to the Enterprise! I watched these episodes on TV as a teenager when the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation aired way back in 1987. I still enjoy TNG to this day. The negotiations between Captain Picard and the Romulan Commander was a good scene. Picard’s negotiation skills were great because he had to carefully handle that situation. The two sides weren’t officially at war but the Romulans and the Federation were still on very bad terms even though it was 50 years later. I knew the Romulan Commander was going to insult Worf when he saw a Klingon Star Fleet officer (Silence your dog!). Romulans hate Klingons! I’m not going to drop and spoilers but I’ll just say that things really ramp up in season 2. Get ready to enjoy the ride!
I remember thinking when I first watched TNG (I think it’s in the first episode) that the thing that really made the size of the new Enterprise real to me was that it had multiple transporter rooms; “more than 1” made me take notice. I don’t recall the number, but in the 11001001 episode, we hear on the them refer directly to at least 20 (!!). For the Romulus ship to appear big? They just needed to show up.
Your pace has been remarkable. That's great too given that you have 8 live action series (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds) and 3 animated series (if you choose to do those... TOS animated, Lower Decks, and Prodigy), and a new movie '"Section 31" airing on Netflix in January. The "Section 31" movie won't make much sense unless you watch Deep Space Nine and Discovery though... especially Discovery. So, your pace has been admirable and that's helping you work through the sheer volume of Trek you have yet to watch. The animated series are optional, but there is a crossover of animated characters turned into live action actors in the series Strange New Worlds, but I don't know if it's necessary to watch the animated series or if it's not vital. Those who watch the animated series might best advise you on that. I envy you the experience of having all these shows to watch for the first time. There are so many incredible stories and adventures ahead that I'm excited for you!!! Keep having a blast with TNG... it changed Star Trek so much, and in a good way, and most of what's coming in the other series are all set in the TNG era ( mostly ). You have many new crews and characters you'll meet and I just bet you'll find you love them all, even if you find some series better than others. Trek is unique to me in that while there is one series I don't care for, I still love the characters and the actors they chose ( with just two very disappointing exceptions) were great choices! My personal favorite is DS9, but Voyager and Enterprise are also so very good! TNG really made the rest of the later series possible. I love that crew a great deal. They were my crew through highschool and every cast member was remarkable. Loving your journey!
Even though there is some DS9 and TNG ran concurrently and DS9 ran concurrently with Voyager I forget where the seasons overlap for the three shows. But I don't see her reacting to more than one series at a time between these three shows.
The door bit wasn't a case of demonstrating Data's strength. Worf is so used to how doors open automatically, he was caught by surprise when it failed to open.
Excellent reaction. This is been so fun. 25 episode was great cause it finished out the conspiracy and it showed about again about the backstory and you know they kinda look like those ones from Star Trek to the wrath of Khan one of their cousins as for episode 26. That was good. I started out with you to know if there were space seed bad guys, but they were just regular guys. This time. The question that rich guy asked is when we’re all discussing about this people say the federation couldn’t possibly ever happen because imagine if they take all your basic needs away place to live food clothing than what you do, but it’s like he said learn more talk to your friends make friends explore. If all you are basic needs or me. It’s easier to explore if your kids are taking care of you have boys still live food. Eat clothing to wear and course. If you wanna explore outside of earth, go to transport ships and explore things but you can make your own shift. If you want to. It’s hard, it can be done ship too expensive, but there are jobs. You can have they earn new credits which will buy ships and players. That’s about all you need. I think it happen. Hopefully I hope it happens someday and Star Trek is great setting up stuff and paying off later. Not gonna spoil anything. I’m glad you enjoyed the first season. It seems like you enjoyed it. You realize what it’s for to set up the show to introduce the characters and their backgrounds and then go on from there that guy with the southern accent. He was a country star in the old days a lot of money, but drink himself and drugged himself to death. Now he can start again and clip. The mother found her family. Since people are will know stuff in the future. I think they’ll take her in easily I think you’ll enjoy yourself holidays. Thanks for the fun. Thanks for doing this until next time.
23:13 Data was the one called to the carpet because he led the away team. Worf is a Lieutenant Junior Grade and Data two ranks above at Lieutenant Commander and third in command of the ship. Data was the one accountable.
The head exploding scene was always edited out whenever the episode was aired on Sky One or the BBC here in the UK and every time I would hope it was the uncensored version, it wasn't until I was in my late teens that I saw the whole scene
"So hopefully season 1 ends with a bang." I hope you appreciate how every Trekkie's face lit up like a Christmas tree when you said that, knowing what was coming up with Conspiracy. XD. Congrats on making it through season 1! Thanks for the content and on to season 2!
The ending of the Season 1 finale with a question of who did destroy those outposts, you'll find that out in the next season in "Q Who".(NO SPOILERS!!!)
so Conspiracy was made for a reason - the networks at the time were telling Gene to "temper down" some of the violence and sex (which these days is tame, of course)... his response was this episode lol.
Season 1 starts in a TOS vibe but you can see it developing Season 2 evolves and gives more cool stories and mysteries, they even built more sets for the ship Season 3 jumps to another level, which sets the real tone for the whole series. Also a better film material is used, so the colors become more vibrant
One of my favorite Star Trek series is called Voyager, and they have an episode called the 37's that's similar to this one. Star Trek Voyager is my favorite series and a female captain, Captain Kathryn Janeway! After Voyager, then Enterprise, DS9, Next Generation, the Original Series. Thank you for reacting and up next The Child of season 2!
I always thought it was a shame that Ralph Offenhouse and Sonny Clemonds were never seen or heard from again in Star Trek. I would have loved to see Clemonds doing a show entertaining the troops on DS9 during the Dominion War, or Offenhouse as an advisor whispering into the lobes of Grand Nagus Zek. But no. They just disappeared after this episode. There are still a few more episodes of Lower Decks, though...
Ready to warp into Season 2 with you Courtney. From season 2 onwards your journey is only going to get better. And Yes, the Romulans are going to be big trouble for our TNG crew (along with a certain pretentious entity you're familiar with) LOL!
Another excellent reaction. With regards to your question about whether they find what destroyed the Federation & Romulan outpost..... Oh yes, you will find out. When you do, there will be a lot for you to assimilate 😉
Conspiracy was a disturbing one! The Neutral Zone -- if I were one of the cryosleepers, I would have asked Riker if I join the Navy (StarFleet) as enlisted! 🙂 And, you were beautiful as always 🙂
Congrats on getting through S1 without asking "why am I reacting to this series?" S2 is hit or miss, but you'll definitely enjoy some episodes. Unlike TOS which had so many bangers in S1, TNG takes a while to develop, but it's definitely worth the wait.
These two episodes... not Worf episodes... not Data episodes... and yet they're good. The Neutral Zone is one of my favorite episodes of the entire TNG series.
The irony is........ that cryogenically preserved financier was more correct about the 24th century portrayed in TNG than any propaganda spoken from Starfleet ever in the series. For all the claims about nobody needing money and everything you need being provided......it was not ethically equivalent to the freedom provided by working for profit. As the series goes on.....the writing inadvertently reveals to us something the writers individually probably did not intend or realize. The reality of the fictional 24th century is that if you are a civilian human/vulcan/etc then your freedoms don't exist, your options are limited, your resources are lacking. You can do a menial job somewhere and never amount to anything or have any social power or influence anywhere else in society.....you'll have 3 meals, and a bed to sleep in..... but that is not freedom. That is basically just a cushioned prison. Instead, if you want power and freedom to influence society.....you have to be in Starfleet doing work that they want you to do; even when you don't agree that such a thing should be done. The Starfleet and Federation system is closer to an oligarchic fascism than any 1960s hippy would ever admit. And you'll have to wait until Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to start learning about these harsh realities and dealing with the failures of Federation systems.
I'm not saying you are wrong, but It's an interesting way to put it. Captain Picard's family seem to have freedom to do what they like doing. I won't say anymore to avoid Spoilers. IYKYK.
@@rmccombs66 The episodes which we will not spoil that show Picards' family confirm exactly what I say in my initial comment...... so everyone will see.
I really don't understand this point at all. can you be more specific? power to do what? what freedom is lacking? which specific resources? plenty of the scientists we've even just seen so far in star trek work independetly from starfleet, we've seen artists, journalists, politicians, lawyers, all kinds of jobs that have nothing to do with starfleet. there are even people on the enterprise who aren't in starfleet. like it's interesting you mentioned vulcans, I don't think the Vulcan Sciene Academy would qualify as a "menial job". if anything the individual in star trek has more opporturnities than most of us now; because you have three meals and a bed no matter what, you are not bound to a job or a home where you are not treated well. in star trek you have the power to just abandon your career and learn something new without worrying about paying rent. sure, there's still some things that could need some improving but at least nobody in star trek joined starfleet just so they could afford dental care, or glasses to see. nobody has to worry that most of their income goes away for rent and diabetes medication. and even the people we see later who do "menial jobs" as you put it do wonderful work that contributes to their societies' daily life and culture, on their own terms, without some stressed out boss breathing down their neck who is just one bad businessyear away from sacking half their staff and underpay the rest. When I look at Maslows' hierarchy of needs and compare it to what we know about civillian life on earth in star trek I don't see anything that's canonically missing or you're not allowed to pursue. There's a lot I could say about Picard's family, and won't here but what it boils down to is "these people are statistical outliers who should not have been counted. They choose to live Like That."
@@TheyMadeMePickAName I stopped reading your reply when it became apparent that you never read what I typed originally...... so no, I'm not going to waste my time defending what somebody you invented as a strawman thinks...... I'm not your strawman. I am me.
The events in Conspiracy were supposed to be an arc plot. But the arc never came. The producers discontinued the idea. But the events in Neutral Zone are the prequel to future events. There's someone else out there.
I have people in my family, like the businessman, who have also seen this episode. Their reaction makes me question how well they could adjust in the way the captain suggested. Power, profit, and prestige are hard drugs to kick.
The "Conspiracy" storyline screamed out for a two- or even three-parter. Such a broad conspiracy can't be thwarted in one 50-minute episode, which felt rushed and slapdash, like they got the idea but never developed it----a common problem the first two seasons.
Because of the “graphic” nature of Remick’s death, Conspiracy was banned here in the UK during the initial run of TNG. It was because Star Trek was shown at like 6pm, and our normal TV channels have strict rules about what can be shown before 9pm.
It wasn't banned in the UK. No episode was. IIRC there were some scenes cut and episodes the BBC refused to broadcast but those episodes had long been available on VHS before the BBC aired the show.
@ As I said, it was banned by the BBC during “the initial run” on TV. I never mentioned its availability on other media or later on. It was later shown but heavily edited.
@@Andy-ju8bbit was never banned. They edited out the gore and showed it in the initial run. There was one episode later on the BBC decided not to air but even that was never banned.
" low milage put wolfie..." ---.... "young girls". Groupies. "low milage" = young. "pit wolfie" - a fan who comes close to the ring or pit-stop to cheer on the contender in a match.... yeah....
Marc Alaimo is probably the most prolific non bridge crew actor in the 24th century series. This is the only appearance without makeup in TNG but he shows up about once a season. He plays a major antagonist with an almost redemption arc in Deep Space Nine, and is easily 25% of the reason to watch DS9.
You have to love the way Riker and Picard just decide to murder Remmick lol. He’s verbally threatening…. Blast him!!! Then the creature too… what the heck, it’s real ugly!!! lol. Star Trek blunder….
It was not like that. He knew Remmick was infested with the creature and the only way to subdue the creature was with using the phaser on kill as Dr. Crusher said. It had not killed the Admiral but maybe Remmick was carrying the host and many creatures and that destroyed his body.
@@mego73 lol. It’s exactly like that. First you don’t know if the only way to subdue him is with a phaser. Second - more important - they were in no immediate danger as he wasn’t attacking. Nor was the mother alien. They face more potentially dangerous aliens all the time than a very strong human body. It’s not fire first, talk later. And buddy… they made him EXPLODE. That wasn’t a strong stun setting.
Never go out of your way to irritate Picard or Riker during an inspection of the Enterprise. Memories are long, and Starfleet regulations have a seldom-invoked "he needed killin'" clause.
Eat, boom, melt, repeat.... my #1 favorite episode of both seasons 1 and 2. Believe it or not, season 2 has 2 of my absolute unfavorite episodes ever. I could go for that tribbles episode or even Harry Mudd as way way better. Remember season 2 The Outrageous Okona horrible horrible.
You're mistaken. You're thinking of "The High Ground" which stated that IRA terrorism led to a "free Ireland". And even that was not "banned" - it's just the BBC was showing the episodes once a week, sequentially, so it didn't get a re-run until 7 years later. No episodes of Star Trek has ever been banned in the UK. Ever. Conspiracy was merely edited for the Wednesday 6pm showing to exclude the head explosion (as TNG aired RIGHT AFTER children's TV finished).
I was 28 when "The Neutral Zone" aired, I had been a fan of Star Trek since seeing the show for the first time in 1966 and this episode was sort of a letdown. It had been hyped for a couple of months beforehand in several sci-fi magazines that the Romulans would be returning as a threat to the Federation in the season finale. It turns out that they were relegated to the "B" plot of this episode. The two plotlines in this episode should have been separated into two episodes and the Romulan story developed further with more interaction between the Enterprise crew and the Romulans as the season ender. "Conspiracy" would have been the better season finale since at the emd of the episode we are left with the possibility that the story was going to continue.
I was let down with TNG Romulans for the most part, but that was because I'd been reading Diane Duane's Star Trek novels. She and her husband/cowriter Peter Morewood did a fantastic job fleshing out the Romulans' culture and history, and by the time I was done reading "My Enemy, My Ally" and "The Romulan Way," I was even familiar with quite a few words of their language. Those books remained popular enough over the years that she was eventually allowed to write three more in that continuity -- long after TNG had contradicted much of what she had built.
I've always had trouble believing that billions of people would actually focus on improving themselves if all their needs were taken care of. Naturally-ambitious self-starters do exist, true, and in a Star Trek world, many of them would end up in Starfleet or the sciences -- which accounts for nearly every human being that we see in the show. Most people aren't Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Reed Richards, or Jean-Luc Picard, though. I can't help feeling that down on the ground, there must be several billion people just munching away on replicated potato chips, endlessly replaying holo-games, and arguing with/fighting each other over trivialities. That utopian aspect is one reason I prefer TOS, and found Babylon 5 such a breath of fresh air, since B5 showed us a humanity that had not undergone some fundamental change in baseline human nature.
Congratulations on making it through season one. Season one is... not very good. And season two is also not great, but significantly better. The show really hits its stride in season three.
Hi, Courtney, my love! I’m so happy you’re finishing season 1 and starting season 2 in the next video! You’re gonna like Riker better with a beard. I love you, Courtney! ❤❤❤❤😘
Hey, Courtney! The lead Romulan was played by Marc Alaimo. He is later cast as a Cardassian, a new species introduced in "The Next Generation" who represent a major interstellar power in the Alpha Quadrant like the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Empire and the Federation. The Cardassians are hugely significant in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and, in fact, Alaimo is cast as the frequently recurring antagonist Gul Dukat. As the first-ever Cardassian, Alaimo basically originated the species and becomes a POV character into the culture much like Leonard Nimoy is for Vulcans as Spock, Michael Dorn is for Klingons as Worf and Armin Shimerman is for Ferengi as Quark. He was also seen earlier in the season as the yak-faced alien who liked live food and couldn't tolerate being on the same floor with the snake people! "Neutral Zone" reminded me of the TOS episode "Balance of Terror" in its set-up and in its function of reintroducing Romulans. I didn't even remember that body-snatching takeover plot in "Conspiracy". As far as I know, it's never revisited!
Just wanted to tell you that I watch a lot of reaction channels. But I really like your personality. You're one of my favs. I'm a retired vet, BTW and I appreciate your acknowledgement. It's not falling on deaf ears. Keep up the great work!
"Why does Data get the lecture and not worf?" Data was in command and made the decision. Responsibility etc.
The violence was pretty surprising to those that first saw this on TV back in the day.
I was eating a delicious cheeseburger my dad had grilled when that episode aired...not the best moment to have Star Trek suddenly go all David Cronenberg on me.
The gruesome head explosion really came out of nowhere. Such a random moment in Trek.
Conspiracy is so unique for Star Trek Next Generation! Love it. I like the Neutral Zone too. But near the end, security let the civilian on the bridge long after Picard told them to take him away.
Thanks for noticing that.
Courtney, you are absolutely right in how lucky she was to find records about her family considering that the chain could've been broken by the devestation of W.W. III in the 90s.
Romulan commander Tebok is played by Marc Alaimo played about 7 other characters even 1 on DS9 Dukat.
He's also the financier.

I am me.
Data & Worf my two favorite characters but I like Riker too.
@Court Reacts you should watch
Jen Murray and her reaction on the Conspiracy boom melt scene. She did the best, you'll love it!!
How did they react?
Great reactions for some reason I always wonderd if they were the same parasites khan had used in the wrath of Khan or some how related
Hello, Courtney; I recall when this episode first aired 🙀-- creepy. Also,I was expecting more( a Continuation)...
The "Conspiracy" storyline screamed out for a two- or even three-parter. Such a broad conspiracy can't be thwarted in one 50-minute episode, which felt rushed and slapdash, like they got the idea but never developed it----a common problem the first two seasons.
To me, one of the biggest lost chances in TNG is that they left that parasite plot to die right there.
There was one episode later on the BBC decided not to air but even that was never banned.
imma just say if you consider 35 years old to be "so young".... I'm presuming you're a lot older but you look 25 so... idk any more. CHANGLING!
" low milage put wolfie..." ---.... "young girls". Groupies. "low milage" = young. "pit wolfie" - a fan who comes close to the ring or pit-stop to cheer on the contender in a match....
yeah....
2 good episodes
Notification comes up, I'm here. We all know how this works!
I was told a ‘pit woofie’ refers to a woman’s body part.
It’s not easy to watch tng season 1 and 2 but stick with it. In season 3 you’ll hit the gold - you’ll see.
Season 2 has 8 or 9 nice episodes, of course not the quality like Season 3, 4.....
@ yes… I don’t know if I’d go 8 or 9, but there are a few indeed… but nonetheless it’s still a bit painful and cringeworthy as a whole.
@ lol. How you going to write this up in the log Jean Luc? Same as you number one, he had a phaser in his hand, we had no choice. No choice!
DESTROY IT KIRK??!!
The episode "Conspiracy" was actually banned for awhile in the UK if I'm not mistaken.
It was heavily edited cutting out the mother host scene head explosion and vaporisation
You are mistaken. There was stuff the BBC declined to air but nothing was banned and had long been available on VHS release in the UK.
(Looks like the chapters in this one are mislabelled. This clearly isn't your "LOTR Reaction", tho I did like those!)
Thank you so much! I knew I forgot to do something. It's fixed now!
@@CourtReacts-zm9yv You're very welcome, looks good now!
20th century, not 21th...
These are classic episodes, no favs here!
It’s too bad they never followed up on this interesting story thread.. 😔
