This statement is not just regarding UPS, but all major business. All those business need to look at what the top of the food chain is being paid in compared to those that are actually doing the work. The disparity is huge to say the least. While those doing the work are having to use food stamps to feed themselves and their families those at the top of the food chain are buying mega million houses, boats and planes. This disparity can not last. We have seen it before and what is going to happen will make 1929 look like a walk in the park.

We haven't heard a word from the union. Feeder drivers have been displaced since the beginning of last year. Customers were asking drivers why they were only getting a third of the trailers per week then they would normally receive. Feeder drivers are getting offered extra work. While some go back to package or the hub. No ones fighting for the displaced drivers who are taking work away from hub workers or package drivers. Union is most likely in on this whole automation thing.

FedEx is just as bad. Their website goes down in the afternoon during the busy season. We need to get everything processed by lunchtime. I didn't deal with USPS too much. Usually, our customers pick their shipping method for cost. UPS, I feel, is the best for pickup and delivery always on time. They have the fuel cost added in their delivery, which I believe is the best method. If the barrel of oil goes down, the cost goes down. If it's goes up, the cost goes up. DHL, FedEx, and UPS costs are running the same. International shipping is UPS or DHL. I refrain from using FedEx for international.

Nobody seen something like this coming after the driver pay announcement? That money had to come from somewhere. The stockholders aren’t going to take the hit. The clock is ticking on trucking. Like everything else there will only be a few super conglomerates who control 99% of the industry. Only a handful of small companies and owner operators will get the leftover stuff. Sad outlook for a lot of good people.

Fascism. They can make some kind of arrangement with just two or three companies, and everyone who uses anything that comes on a truck can be effected if they want. Can’t do that with 10s of thousands of small carriers

    • @francisbizon8414
      @francisbizon8414 2 месяца назад

The pay announcement was smoke and mirrors on her part to make the union look like the bad guys. The company's profit drop mirrors the whole industry's earnings. Covid is over and the resulting drop in volume caused the profit drop. Actually automation was in the plans long before the last contract expired. They broke ground for the new Worcester, Massachusetts hub over 3 years ago. When it opens in a couple of years it will replace 4 hubs. These facilities can't go from drawing board to completion overnight. Another opened in the Atlanta area a couple of years ago consolidating a few buildings. This was before the old contract expired. FedEx is a much newer company and their facilities are more streamlined. The newest hub in our area was built in the early 1980s. They need to compete. If you want to see hub automation RUclips has some videos on UPS Worldport.

People gripe about the pay, but package drivers have actually taken a pay cut over the years if you adjust for inflation. The job is very hard work and long hours. I really don't like working for ups. If you want an 8 hr day you have to request it, and it's given based on seniority. You get 3 a month.
They make billions in profit, the ceo makes nearly 20 mil. They are always meddling trying to save pennies. If they could automate the whole process they would

Decrease society (kill most of us off); don't let us own anything ("You will own nothing. You will be happy."), replace us with robots ots that don't need tome off, don't get lazy, can't be held accountable for errors, & most important, don't take a salary or use benefits. So of course UPS is going all out automated.

This reorganization didn’t happen until the company had to avoid the eminent strike and resulting raise given just last year. The same happened to Union Pacific railroad and the rail industry. They are trying to hedge the costs of they raise by trimming the workforce and shutting down facilities. The railroads are restructuring to reduce labor costs but when you release trained employees you face the consequences of a rise in business without enough ready and available bodies.

UPS gave notice to numerous part time supervisors, all no more than one year with the company.
They have been constructing new automated extensive sort machines but as of yet, i'm unable to see how it limits the top scale 'heavy lifting' required by manual labor.
Loading feeder trailers and package cars to me, will always require intricate loading methods only capable by human dock workers.
The automated machines are usually meant for processing smaller lighter weight packages. Everytime they increase speed for bigger ones , it causes processing errors, like misloads. Or jams, and completely wrecks envelopes or bagged items.
The new contract, was more of a 'catch up' contract. We got screwed, the last two before.
I'm a broken record about this, but UPS pays millions in health, vision, dental, pension to part time employees. Instead of hiring so many part timers, they should've consolidated, in less amount of full time employees.
UPS and corporate always claim 'loss of revenue' when they really mean 'loss of PROFIT' instead of 8 billion in profit per year, they'll have to settle for 5 to 6.
There are more bagged items, i've ever seen, many that read 'TEMU'. E commerce seems steady if not increased. If the u.s. government ever decided to get off it's butt, and break up Amazon's majority online share, or when the employees get thoroughly organized, (apparently they are content, watching top executives fly billionaires in a space shuttle off their hard earned labor efforts, instead increased wages going to hard working employees and their families) you'll see an even level playing field of service between the 2 companies.
I've been with UPS for 30 years. It has always had a nationwide infrastructure to meet the demand of today's standards of online delivery service. I've never seen mass layoffs, but i have seen mass hirings (during the pandemic).
I've also seen UPS try to force overtime on drivers, while cutting hours for inside part time employees. Which was the last contract's issue. The 22.4 position.
I'm not too concerned. As long as anyone can order anything on their phone and have it sent to their home, NOT using Amazon, it's coming from us, fed ex, or the post office.

She has to say these things or the shareholders will take their money and run, just like Boeing is experiencing now. The teamsters will still be there defending their employees. These CEOs even though they think they are smart, surprisingly get talked into a lot of BS. Im surprised I didnt hear the AI analogy in the speech. She talks about the Network of the future, well what is that?, you still gotta burn gas and run trucks to get the last 5 miles of package delivery. Slapping a new label on that and calling it a network doesnt make it not a pig.
