I'm a huge fan of this library. I wrote this adagio in 2019.

A Great Example that.shows..... often it is not a Library Problem ( all kind of library) ...but an USER problem! Nice Test Oliver!
But what about the ‘Romantic’ portamento/light glissandi that most of those libraries don’t have this kind of patches , which make the mock-up strings very authentic? I found only 2 libraries that you can achieve this romantic patches in Sample Modeling strings(adore this library), but it’s not the best workflow to achieve this great sound (follow Gardini videos),the 2nd one is Xsample that sounds truly amazing, which this library doesn’t have a massive advertising and that’s why ppl don’t really know about this magnificent sound of strings and other orchestral VST instruments, also not super workflow but more than Sample Modeling Strings.
Still searching this Portamento glissandi that sounds like the strings of Frank Sinatra songs…
Wow. Absolutely outstanding. Beautiful composition, but those results really blow me away, even though the real orchestra of course sort of breathes warmer.
You know what is sound easier to tell the difference between the software and the acoustic recording, the Brass instruments. Because unlike strings that have sounds easier to replicate. Brass instruments have far more articulations and specific flavors of sounds, that alot of the VSTs still struggle to replicate just right without sounding overprocessed right out of the box, with the limiters, and the equalizing.

Rare who can unveil the true potential of CSS and you Oliver are doing it. If you could share a video of your midi programing your modulation expression etc.. that would be liquid gold. Thank you very much
The difference is heard in legato transitions, but there are also too many low-mid frequencies in Cinematic Studio Strings. It's a beautiful piece!
It varies so much depending on how detailed you touch the modulation. That's amazing.

when you play with music sample library like strings and orchestra, its not music played on your computer, but its someone sit down and playing that music in real life and play it for you
if you use release then it can be fixed a little bit. obviously no comparison between that real warm sound. but still

how does this compare to the cinematic strings 2.0? i own that, but feel i need to learn automation techniques. but is this a vastly superior update?
Honestly, I wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two just from listening...
Do you think that just the mockup would be sufficient for the final production?
To be clear, I'm not quite certain where one ends and one begins. Perhaps this is a trick test? Are the Cinematic Studio Strings actually playing the entire time?
In the short passages the difference is hard to hear, check the long versions. Best Oliver
pretty hard to believe as long as Cinematic Studio Strings library has few milliseconds gap due to the script complexity. If you check other demos no one note is quantize perfectly.
The original strings sound way better, the higher strings have more of a full body, the samples sound thiner and not as rich in sound regarding Violins/Violas.

Are sample libraries better than real orchestras? I'd say no. But they are close enough, and certainly more convenient for those of us that like creating this type of music yet don't have a full orchestra on speed dial.
I can see the difference between the two performances, the real orchestra has a more open sound than the CSS which is drier. I find CSS an amazing tool, but you have to recognize that

0:27 Until libraries figure out how to handle intonation that's purer than equal temperament like this, nothing will beat live players.
CC pitch automation is definitely possible but it'll probably sound artificial, and in any case, live sessions ROCK

Such a great piece and mock-up! Curious, did you blend in the Cinematic Studio Solo Strings library? Do you have any particular strategy for a convincing divisi?
Thanks. I didn't use the solo strings. I put the dynamics and the vibrato on the same controller, that sounds very authentic in CSS2.

Not sure if I understand where the comparison is happening... when we see the piano roll it's CSS and when we see the musicians it's the real recording?

@@OliverSchmellenkamp Well.. The sampled library is quite good! With some mix tricks it can probably get even closer to the real thing.
CSS seems way overpriced for all the hype that it gets.
I mean what's the draw? The expressiveness, or the control over parameters?
Whenever I hear it in sound comparisons I'm immediately shocked by how synthetic it sounds, so I imagine there has to be some other reason so many people are riding the hype train to the scene of the wreck...
Maybe it gives you so much control that it can sound good in the right hands, but mostly ends up sounding meh for people who don't have the time to tweak everything in post?
I've heard more convincing out of the box sound from East West Symphony Orchestra, and that was recently on sale for well below $200 with a ton more articulations.

Vibrato in CSS kicks in fairly arbitrary with almost no regard to the score compared to a real orchestra. Plus I like a bit more rosin in the real thing.

You realize that all of your legato notes are off the beat by a few hundred milliseconds, right? The legato transitions are starting on the beat, but it should be completed on the beat. In the CSS documentation, it says that when using legatos to pre-delay the tracks by a few hundred milliseconds...
Yes i know, here it makes no difference, but if you work with a clear beat it's important.
@@OliverSchmellenkamp Apologies, but it really does make a difference. Tap out the beat for the live strings and youll hear them playing on the beat. Tap out the same beat for CSS and youll hear that it falls after the beat. It's important no matter what - especially if you want to A/B compare to live players.
@@SamFerrara It does not Matter when there really is no beat to hear. When you nor reference beat to play on it's not important if ALL his strings start a few milliseconds late because they are sync (on beat) again because they all are delayed the same amount. afterwards for the comparison it's just important to sync the two audio files exactly over each other!
If a tree falls in the forest and there was no metronome going, did it really fall off-beat?
Slow string orchestras do not play to a predefined click or beat. If you analyze them they're is always an ebb/flow to the tempo.
Thats why subtle tempo automation during a slow strings passage is a very wonderful trick to add realism on top of dynamics and vibrato.
Read the Evenant article on it, it's very informative.
