Looks very slick Sir! Love the video. The soldered RAM is a bit of a showstopper for me. Running a T480 with 64GB RAM right now and with over 100 chrome tabs open, I doubt 8GM is going to run smooth.
Yes definitely you can use an RJ45 ethernet to either USB C or USB 3.0 adapter. The T490s only has 8th gen Intel but the T490 does have up to 10th gen.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for the 10th gen CPU clarification. Lenovo has a proprietary Ethernet dongle that has a weird shaped connector. That's what I was getting at.
mindboggling that thinkpad would even think about having soldered memory. By the way, is it possible for hobbyists to replace soldered memory? Of course it would be complex, but is it doable?
Ofcourse. You can install maximum that motherboard supports. Just that there shouldn't be Bios lock to support only 8gb Ram. Edit - ruclips.net/video/dTi4QyJ_GLw/видео.htmlfeature=shared Someone did in MacBook.
It takes some skill to do that level of soldering. I would love to do this. I haven't heard of anyone doing it to a T490s, but I would be interested in seeing it done.
@@HaisteComputerRepair I just saw a video where someone upgraded processor of Nvidia GPU. Will post that video here. Edit- There you go Sir. ruclips.net/video/aC0CI7pTptU/видео.htmlfeature=shared
@@HaisteComputerRepair definitely would remove one of the biggest objections to the newer thinkpads, if the ram is at least theoretically upgradeable. Still a faff, but better than being stuck with 8gig. depending on the costs, it might make it very worth it to buy a low spec device and then resolder it to high heaven. Afaik, the P series is now the only thinkpad with upgradeable memory. Not exactly portable though :D
The port on the back actually doubles as a Micro SD Card reader and Nano Sim Card, but it will depend on which version you get if you get one or both supported.
Hellow just bought mine used i7 8 gen 32 ram variant , for what I've tested so far it was good it just the battery cycle is around 590 and guess what the full capacity charge exceed the design charge by over 2,200 and also Im still checking how long the battery last for what I've tested so far it can go 3 hours only doing basic web searching and youtube watching still checking it out for now. Should I be worried??
No that is normal for used lithium ion batteries. The degrade over time. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. You could look into third party options.
@HaisteComputerRepair Sir i plan to duy different 2nd hand laptop, i wanna do dsa in java and MERN stack so please guide me what qualities i see in laptop in budget! I'm computer science student
@@Ceopratham7 A thinkpad like this with at least a 4 core 8 thread CPU will help productivity. If you go for T490s make sure it's 16GB of RAM. Or look at T480, T480s, T14 Gen 1

The soldered RAM does take the wind out of the sails doesn't it
I'm looking for a t480 myself. I need one with an Italian keyboard and they are a bit more expensive than normal qwerty keyboards.
@@mynameisnobody5944 eBay or Aliexpress are cheaper options. Probably looking at third party keyboards, but they aren't too bad from my experience.
Bought one of these just yesterday. T490/s are one of the best value and quality laptops on the used market!
I am definitely a fan of the design.
bought mine and it has over 500 charge cycle and it exceeded the design capacity by 2k should I be worried
I have t490s with i5, 16Gb of ram, and I love it! Bought for just 115€ on eBay
300$
1. That weird port on the left side is for the Ethernet dongle.
2. I think some T490s's came with a 10th gen CPU.

No SD card slot and soldered 8Gb ram is a bit dissapointing for a Thinkpad

@HaisteComputerRepair oh, that's interesting. Only ThinkPad would "think " outside the box in this way. Thanks for the info !!
