- Join me as I mountain bike to the Santa Margarita Lake Dam. Along the ride I will talk about the history of the Salinas River and the lakes current uses. This is a video I originally made as an extra credit project for my Electrification course. It's a bit of a different style than my normal adventures but everyday is a new journey!
Awesome video! Hydro power is great when you have a good source of water, but the Margarita watershed quickly dries out in the hot summers, thus the lake would be drained quickly. While water can be valuable for electricity, it can also be more valuable for drinking and living. While Diablo canyon nuclear power isn't quite 'renewable' it is a pretty carbon-free source. Additionally, while coastal communities get a lot of fog, solar panels can be placed inland and the electricity piped to coastal foggy communities. Power is a very interesting topic with a lot of options to explore, with lots of pros and cons for most solutions!
Hey man thanks for the detailed comment! Great to hear someone else’s opinion on this who is knowledgeable on the topic 🤙 Lopez may be a more consistent power supply with it’s year round feeder creeks…
Great job on the video.
You should make more 👍🏼🇺🇸
Thank you! Have a few more in the works at the moment… Stay tuned🥳
What is the name of the trail you took to them he dam view?
Searching google and looking at the lake trail map, this would be called the 'Rocky Trail' as shown in the map at the following link: www.slohorsenews.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Santa-Margarita-Regional-Trail-Map.png
