Today we wanted to share with you a few mini-reviews of some of the movies and series that we watched this past month.
Some we loved, some not so much , and others that might interest you.

What shows are you currently watching?
Slasher Season 4 on Shudder. Super campy, not stellar, but some fun.
Squid Game of course. And I will say that it's definitely lived up to my expectations so far. Will definitely check out "The Medium". Thanks for the recommendation. I really enjoyed Shang-Chi and while I do agree that they were given a huge checklist of items to tackle (reconciling the Mandarin, tackling the Asian American perspective, establishing what's a very new character for many viewers, etc.), I think they did a great job and I look forward to where they take him from here.

I watched Malignant a few days ago and already guessed the twist early on in the movie. I felt like the movie was trying to do too many subgenres at once in my opinion, but I can definitely see the Giallo influence after you mentioned it.
Where can I watch the movie The Medium? I loved the movie "The Wailing" so I would love to see that as well!
Malignant felt like an adult goosebumps story. The show constancy has ridiculous twists and this felt campy and fun. I think if it was just a bit shorter and had more color it would be way more engaging. Still, that 3rd act is something to behold.
Midnight Mass is outstanding. Very atmospheric with great acting and a story that ramps up the tension along the way.
I felt the ending was underwhelming, I think the vampire creature should've been kept in the shadows
You know they are professionals when they don't just break under overhyped series.
I absolutely loved all of Midnight Mass, except for the last episode. I felt the finale was so, so bad, like it was written by a completely diffefent person. Without going into too much detail, I didn't find the behaviour of the townspeople the least bit convincing and plausible, and the same is true for the... well, you know, no spoilers. It felt rushed, like they decided to cut an episode or two at the last moment. Still well worth a watch, though.
Your description of The Medium reminded me a little of the superb Man Bites Dog in the way the documentary crew play a part. I'll be sure to track it down!
Midnight Mass is my favorite series since True Detective Season 1. As someone that largely grew up in the "bible belt" there was so much reflected back at me that I had to write an essay of my own. What I loved most was how they used characters in various stages of their faith to give us a clear understanding of all the nuances that come with having a relationship with the church. So often we decry religion as bad or atheism/agnosticism as evil that we don't see that these things aren't so cut and dry. Flanagan portrays these nuances better than most anything I've seen. A few recommended watches to go along with it: Black Narcissus (the film), Ingmar Bergman's Hour of the Wolf and the documentary Jesus Camp.
Really appreciate the monthly wrap up. Malignant 3rd act was insane!
This channel is really underrated.
Too many channels that review shows but for horror shows, i find this to be best.

I have not yet enjoyed a new horror film this year as much as I did with "Malignant". It's one of those things that you have to see to believe. 🤣
Just finished "Midnight Mass" a few days ago, and I too had to take breaks because I didn't exoect it to be heavier than Mike Flanagan's 2 previous horror miniseries. Flanagan is a master of modern horror, and of horror setpieces (esp. the one that occurs later in the series that I felt terrified and claustrophobic with the characters in that scene.)
Just watched "The Medium" last night, and, wow, that was a ride. There came a point where I almost wanted to quit watching but I still plowed through it. Even after the credits rolled, I was still shaking... I agree with the assessment that it's not a perfect movie.For me, mainly because of the framing as it is a mockumentary. You kinda expect when something is coming on the screen, but the film still manages to break down your defenses. The Wailing is still the better film between the two.
I really appreciate these kinds of videos because I don't often have time to watch entire series and your takes are generally very measured and balanced. Thank you!

you're the first person i see reviewing The Medium wooww i agree with what you said i just thought that it could have been way shorter than it was and, as much as i enjoyed the absolute mess that happens towards the end of it, it was still all a bunch of stuff and cliches i had already seen in other horror movies so i wasn't really surprised about anything.
What i mostly enjoyed about it though was seeing a diff type of exorcism, which is something i had never seen before since all the exorcism movies i watched were related to christianity, so that was very interesting! Also enjoyed seeing more of thai culture and shamanism.
On the other hand i didn't enjoy Malignant one bit cause i found the plot twists to be very cheap and it made me straight up laugh at times
Midnight Mass could have been a 5/5 stars masterpiece for me if it weren't for the ending and the way-too-long monologues and deep talks in between that made me lose focus more than once. The criticism on christian fanatism and the acting were the highlight of the entire series
I will be watching the Wailing for the first time very soon its on my checklist.

I loved Malignant! It delivers on its promise of being a tense and also campy horror movie. I just embraced Wan’s style and went on a wild ride
Malignant is one of my fave films of the year. I love how batshit crazy it is
I love your videos, happy to see you are putting out more lately. I have a feeling you will absolutely love squid game even though it's so popular. I saw it before everyone else and I felt like it was going to have a cult following not this mainstream following which upsets me ha.

I really liked Malignant but maybe it's because I grew up watching campy 80s horror movies.

I enjoyed the earlier 1/2 go 2/3s of midnight mass but the ending felt weaker while the last few episodes were a bit weaker

Am I the only one that didn't like Midnight Mass? A few aspects were incredible, but the wheels came off for me.
I just felt Malignant fell flat, I felt it too predictable and honestly the big reveal but just okay. I was actually very disappointed in the movie, I felt the acting was just too bland and not much to feel for the movie and even with that big reveal it didn't do it for me. I'll have to give it a second... Maybe 3rd chance
The Medium dissapointed me. Again this is not a Na Hong Jin film
I highly disliked Star Wars visions, it just proved to me how creatively bankrupt the whole SW universe is, jedis this, siths that, lightsabers and violence as a resolution to every problem, boring as fuck. Though I did like the second episode because it offered something I hadn't seen or heard in SW context before, good stuff lighthearted stuff without any unnecessary violence.
I'm disappointed by Star Wars Visions review in this video. Visions was non-Star Wars content in Star Wars skins. (Except E5 Ninth Jedi)
"Hero" is called "Jedi" and "Magic" is called "Force" while lore isn't kept even at simplest level. It is aimless, lame shorts with good animation dressed in Star Wars skin without even token tribute to Star Wars. That section of the review was safe and superficial.
