Also, the latest game update improved my fps noticeably. I'm looking forward to what FSR can do for me when it's introduced.

    It is quite mindboggeling how powerful your PC has to be in order to run the resolutions necessary for VR sims. Unfortunatly this also makes sense as this game is even without VR a demanding title and having to render 2x a native resolution of 2160x2160 is in itself incredibly demanding(and that is not even considering that you need more than that to get the clearest picture. For me this makes hope though as the upcoming generations of GPUs will only get more powerful and with that we come quite a lot closer to the VR Dream i guess.

    • @sonic-th966
      @sonic-th966 Год назад +1

      It should be mentioned that you need to set the resolution above 3000x3000 for the reverb g2 and most other vr headsets to get the full out of the display.
      With aspharical vr lenses you can go with the native display resolution.

    Hi there. I just upgraded to the 4090 a few days ago and I have done one or two flights with it and i feel it's worth every cent. i do mostly short flights in GA aircraft. did my first flight all setting in ultra with a pimax 8kx in a default taildragger in the rain and heavy cloud with high FOV and was amazed that it even worked. I will be bringing these settings back to smooth it out. So if you have the money to spend on one of these cards I would recommend you do it. Also a big thanks to Simhanger for all the research you do that helps us simnerds.

    Thanks for your feedback on the 4090. I have a similar PC to you, with an ASUS Extreme OC 3080 card. I’m retired and don’t want to simply chase the latest and greatest GPU that comes out. I like the experience I get in my sim using higher settings than you typically use. Maybe in a few years I can consider an upgrade. Currently the card you have is available in Australia for $3,700. Just can’t justify this upgrade at present. With the constant performance improvements that are coming out, I think I’ll ride the improvement wave for a while.

    I tried a basic MSI 4090 model in VR and only received a small increase in smoothness in games other than MFS, but the graphics had higher fidelity and sharpness. The 4090 definitely renders a bit better (than my previous AMD RX6900XT card) but the performance increase (I think motion smoothness trumps fidelity in VR) could not justify $2,400 after tax here in Toronto Canada... Returned it.
    P.S. It is possible that my Quest 2 over Virtual Desktop was limiting what could be processed (and seen) - Perhaps the upcoming Quest 3 will have double the processing power of the Quest 2 allowing the user to 'see' all that the 4090 is trying to send over Virtual Desktop to the Quest.

All mounted on a state of the art MoB, the ASRock X670E PRO RS. Hopefully, the fast Cpu and the fast memory will make the 3090 perform really great. I am dead curious. I previously had a 3070 OC card, paired with an i7-10700k and 32 GB 3600Mhz memory, so the uplift should be significant 🙂

    To be honest one gets ultra smooth performance when limiting FPS to 30fps. The benefit is smoother motion (Not microstutters as I can see from your video) at 30 fps. 2) Much less strain on hardware (We can see that 60fps and more creates an issue where hardware warms up over time and the sim starts to slow down) 3) You dont need to run out and spend fortunes on GPUS like the 4090. I'd even be confident to get the 3090ti over the 4090 because it's cheap, I dont have to change my tower to accomodate a huge card and I dont need to worry about cables catching fire

I've seen videos where people are at 120 FPS at cruise or flying around, but on landing are still at 38 FPS. I'm not sure what a 4090 would give me. As someone who got a 4090 but also have a 10th gen i7, this video was very helpful. I like to be self-defeating and most of my graphics are high in VR and getting almost the same fps on those settings.
    My biggest gripes are
    1. The g2 (1st gen at least) has horrible tracking and anything less than 60fps gives microstutters with previous frames giving nausea. I prefer my quest 2 for this reason alone
    2. VR in MSFS is still pretty unstable. Things like misaligned mouse pointers over your cockpit controls, the rare time a dialog window comes up but full screen on desktop, meaning it covers one eye and there's no way to interact with it without closing the sim, when the g2 sleeps and then wakes, flight sim won't display anything on the screen, and I get a CTD about once every 3 flights saying there was an issue with my graphics card driver

    I was intrigued your statment Not FPS but how it feels). I have a question. I ran FS on 3070 (slow i9) around 35fps avg. I upgraded and on same machine went to a 3080ti. And I got around 70fps avg. It was better but still I saw some jump between frames. Wanting more I got a 4090 and new machine with a FASTER than the i9 - 12700. FS said 35-45 FPS. SLOWER than the 3080ti, BUT IT WAS CLEARLY SMOOTHER as in 90+ FPS. Dev mode in FS said 35-45.
    Why is this? Why is FPS LOWER but it was clearly 90+ and very smooth. The FPS counter was red. (under 60). I called up other FPS counter and they are double the FS2020 counter. (why is because I'm using DLSS3 and frame gen) they all show double what the FS2020 counter shows which is normal.
    Still even with DLSS3 and 4090 the double count was not much over the 3080ti... yet it was TOTALLY SMOOTHER without question? Could this be due to more lag between frames on the slower cards? I'm curious.
    So - wanting more I updated the 12700 to a 14900. At first I saw no change. DISAPOINTED in spending the 550. Then it hit me to look and call up msconfig and check processors used. I had it set for the 12700 and it reverted back to "1" due to the CPU change. I changed it to the max option (32 I think it was) and WOW it blew me away. I had 20-30 fps more (still smooth probably smoother but it's hard to tell differences once smooth is smooth. Fact is that the FS FPS was green and showed 75 fps avg. And the real counter with frame gen (Nvidias) is double that at 150. I'm happy now so it doesn't matter why but I'm curious about why FPS was lower but performance higher with the 4090 initially. Might make a good video subject for you. Thanks for all you do.
