Thanks for your guide ! I run MFS2020 on a laptop (Asus Rog Strix G18 with I9 13gen 32 Go RAM and RTX 4090 laptop (8 Go VRAM ddr6) and I noticed that DLSS with DLAA and frame generation on is also a good compromise to get a clear image without losing to much FPS
I've tried the last AFMF 2.0 beta AMD drivers on this sim and this is woodoo sorcery. It doubles my FPS without much artefact troubles. My 7900xtx run faster than my 4090 !!
@@Patrick_AV Yes it works with all APU now (Vulkan) and you don't have to use only full screen, it uses VRR and there are less artefacts (in Xplane 12 and MSFS).
Thanks for the video Mark. You gave me a few ideas on what to try in VR to make thing even better with my Reverb G2 (Crystal Light not here yet), I'm fairly new to MSFS, can't say I have much interest in learning all the intricacies of flying, if I fly a small plane myself, it's in "easy" mode with a Logitech Extreme 3D pro (yep, it's older than dirt LOL). What I do really much enjoy is using the A320 Neo (v1) and letting the AI autopilot fly the plane while I just look around. Too bad not all planes allow the AI autopilot to fly the plane, the new V2 of the Neo doesn't work, neither does the 747 or the A310. Some plane work, some don't. I am getting much enjoyment from MSFS this way, I'm actually a sim racer but this MSFS is a lot of fun in VR. LOL
Nice video Mark; thanks for posting it. You started off with 35 FPS and ended up around 50. I’d be interested to know what would the FPS would had been with the RTX 4090 without doing an entire video on it. Thanks again.
Great video Mark, do you have a video like this for those of us running a 4090 with a 1390ks or 1490? Will be setting up a Crystal Light soon and would love to know your settings in VR with a beefy system. I use an LG TV 120Hz, with sync and am just trying to get setup properly. Also what additional programs do you use with VR outside of Primax?
Thanks Mark, I am aware not everyone appreciates your videos unless it is specific about their system! That said I really do like ALL of your videos as you explain things slow and easy which is very very nice! Your work and advice is superb!
In my Crystal I find the DLAA option looks better than TAA. Same sharpness pretty much but with much reduced jaggies looking across the ground while on the ground, fences, things like that.
8:50, under 'Change Resolution' - you could click the 'Use NVIDIA colour settings' and change the 'output dynamic range range' from 'Limited' to 'Full' to get 0-255 colours.
If you use vr or look around a lot having off screen terrain pre catching to ultra will help stop dips when looking around as the off screen stuff will have already been loaded, so you actually lose performance on settings other than ultra. I have a powerful system so ymmv (4090 7800x3d) but on a powerful system ultra is the best for performance and experience (you won’t get pop in when you look around suddenly)
So I see you are using DX12 with TAA I thought TAA works better with DX11 what do you use the most DX11 or 12? Of course, I only fly with the Pimax Crystal VR headset. So I should probably use dx 12
@@SimHangerFS Ya, since the latest msfs update and nvidia 552.44 together with dlss 3.7.20 dlss/balanced, with 1.20x ODT SS (to produce a TAA-like cockpit clarity), and forced 40fps, DX12 is now working very well with my QPro/rtx4090 using Link at 650mbps. I still find it best to disable win11 HAGS though. Not so much with msfs, but with other PCVR apps it still can be a bit unstable. Thanks for your useful tips mate and cheers.
Mark, thanks for such an informative video. I am currently exploring the idea of migrating from my XBOX series X to a PC solution as I want to run a few 3rd party programs that you can’t run on XBOX at the same time. I was thinking of going for a wired2fire Valkyrie machine, but I have also seen a few vendors offering the spec (RTX4070 Ti Super) that you have demoed here. I’m starting to wonder if I need to go all out with the Valkyrie as it represents a significant investment when I possibly don’t need to as (like you) I’m predominantly a GA (low & slow) flyer as I like to enjoy the scenery along my route. I guess it’s a case of how deep your pockets are at the end of the day. Much food for thought here. I have bookmarked the video for future settings. Thanks once again.
Making the switch from XBOX X to PC for me was a massive upgrade in terms of immersion, if you're willing to invest in peripherals, scenery and aircraft of course. Freeware scenery is fun if you're on a budget and AI ATC software can add a lot of immersion too. Have fun which ever way you go!

Hi Mark, I just look at your video and tilted when I discovered your very high end setup and the resulting rather low FPS below 60 that you experience despite the fact that your are probably burning quite a large amount of Watts for that ! At the end you said that the hardware is not yet capable of properly running the MSFS, I would, If I may, say the contrary : The MSFS software is not properly designed to take benefit of such high end setup. - You know for instance the famous MSFS bottleneck of the single core currently able to send commands to the GPU while the other cores are far from being fully used. Did you turn on the rebar option on your machine ? I am sure you use the Frame Gen option, don't you ? Cheers,
@@d.p.5874 hi, thanks for feedback. I was not using framegen in this test. Rebar is on. Fair comment on the software, however MSFS2024 promises expanded multi-threading so will be interesting to compare. Note for flightsim you don’t need 60fps for a smooth performance, 30-35 fps is a common target.
@@SimHangerFS Yes agree you get smooth movement at 35 FPS and burn much less Watts, but in my opinion it appears a bit blurry for lateral movement particularly when speed increases. Cheers and fly safe.
One path is to make sure that the core used for GPU communication is not also used by other apps, in particular W11. For instance make sure MSFS does not use the 1st core which is systematically used by W11. This can be done through Affinity by hand or by a .bat or better using Process Lasso. Hope this helps...
Very useful video. For the Nameplates, in Options, Control Options, there is a TOGGLE NAMEPLATES command. You can set it to your keyboard, I have it set to CTRL / . Very useful and easy to toggle. Another thing: just recently, Intel admitted that their high end CPUs 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs i9 have a problem and they can get damaged over time; some new BIOS update may come soon. You have an 19 14900K; are you aware about this?
If I go under 60FPS the Framerate meter blinks/goes red but I notice you are at 30-40 FPS and still in the green with a deep yellow graph. I wonder why? It does look smooth on the youtubes. Also I see your Alloc stuff in the framerate meter is blinking red. Do you have any idea what that means? In TAA you can run a lower res in the game and then simply upscale it using the Render Scale Option. 150 seems to be 1:1. I use 2640x1440 then 150 render scale to upscale back to 4k. I get the same quality but the GPU is being used more than the CPU. With a 4090 we have the over-head. This would even out your Main Thread and GPU Thread a lot.
Which VR headset you got? Ive tweaked the quest 3 for over a year. I almost got in 99% stutter free, but a new Q3 update screwed it all up again. You must use "auto-fps" for a start. That is sooooo essential.
