Hanu Health claims to be your "all-day stress coach" and a "mental health therapist in your hand." 🧘‍♀️📱
I tried out the app, accompanied by a real-time heart-rate monitor, across a few weeks as it tracked my heart rate variability, heart rate, and overall stress resiliency. I also got the chance to sit down with the mastermind behind Hanu Health, Dr. Jay Wiles.
In this video, I share my honest take on the Hanu experience - what clicked for me and what made me raise an eyebrow. Plus, I show you my chat with Dr. Jay, where we dive into the nitty-gritty of heart rate variability - covering the significance, the culprits of low HRV, ways to boost it, and how quickly you can master your own nervous system.
Hit the play button and tell me what you think in the comments below! 🚀🎬
🔸 Transparency: I was given access to the Hanu app and a heart rate monitoring chest strap for free. Hanu had no editorial control over this video. Please remember, my reviews represent good faith and honest opinion.

Fascinating as always Gemma. I have at least deepened my understanding of HRV after the video (there was a time when I thought HRV was similar to homeostasis and therefore the less variability the better!🤦‍♀️) As with some other devices you have reviewed, it’s only when they come in the form of a watch/band/ring that they will have mass market appeal as a strap is a faff.
I thought your review was very even-handed as usual and I agree that Dr Jay does seem to have a genuine passion for the product. It’s getting there but it’s not there yet!😀

Thank you, Frank! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who finds a chest strap a bit of a faff. 😊 Maybe one day Hanu will link up to a ring or wristband instead. 🤷‍♀️

Excellent Gemma & explains about Heart-Rate Variability - My life which has sadly had too much trauma has created continual Hyper-Arousal/Hyper-Vigilance & Very damaging stress on my heart & due to still living a very significant & prolonged period of re-traumatisation I lost the art of Meditating - Transcendental Meditation is in some ways problematic because emotional flashbacks do occur within it and all very heart-breaking but I miss the deep rest it gave my nervous system/heart etc to self-regulate the very gruelling daily ordeal - therefore has Jay Wiles explains its very challenging to calm down such an overwhelmed body. Its good that Hanu provides a therapist facility within the App but it seems a work in progress

I'm so sorry, David. Sounds like you've really suffered. I hope you can find that deep rest for your nervous system again soon.

This was really interesting! I liked hearing your thoughts and experience with this system... It seems like a whooole lot of data to then be told that it depends and may not change at all, and that's supposed to be fine, so then it seems tricky to see the value of wearing the strap. I would personally be very interested in using the system to determine my own "resonance frequency" and know what the best breathing rate is for me.

Thank you for watching! Yes, after the app measured my resonance frequency it was able to customize a breathing exercise for my personal resonance frequency rate. 👍
