Thanks Alexander! I wish I could say there's a quick easy way to learn to fly like this but it really comes down to flying a lot of packs and practice. Try and fly as smoothly each time you go out as it makes the flight more enjoyable to watch.
Thanks Joel! Once in a while I catch a perfect morning to float fly and I was lucky that morning. If I can get out by 7am it can be pretty awesome at times. As for the train horns, to be honest, I didn't really notice them when I was flying as we hear them quite regularly when we fly there. It wasn't until I played back the video to edit it that I noticed they we rather loud. I decided it was ok as they emphasize just how quiet the little Turbo Timber Evo really is while in the air.
Thanks John! Some of my favorite UMX Timber videos are the ones of you flying yours on floats. If I recall didn't you lose the site you would float fly at?
Great video! I ordered this for my first place, waiting for it to come off of backorder. In the meantime I've just been practicing on the simulator, and now I have more appreciation for how smooth your flying is 👏
Thanks SSM!!! Keep practicing and you’ll be fine. I was fortunate that my instructor was a pattern flyer (precision aerobatics) and he always stressed flying as smoothly as possible.
Thanks go around! To be honest I didn't really pay much attention to the train horns when I was flying as I hear them all the time when I fly there. Once I played back the video I noticed they were kinda loud but I thought they help to emphasize just how quiet the UMX Turbo Timber Evo really is while in the air.
Thanks CR5! I'm fortunate this spot is available to fly and is only 10 minutes from my house. Not quite as convenient as your flying sites but pretty good for this area. The only thing about flying there is that I need to get there early as the park starts getting busy by 8:00. I was there around 7am to get this video.
The UMX Turbo Timber has been a bit of a time machine for me. It has allowed me to go back and fly at a few of the schoolyards I grew up flying control line and model rockets at with my buddies.
Thanks Bro! I was lucky that morning as I caught it just before the winds picked up and things got choppy. I typically have to be there by 7am or earlier.
Michael, awesome flight as always. I love watching your flights and learning from you. I flew mine this week on floats for the first time. I found it a bit tail heavy with them and a 2S 700mAh or 800mAh battery seemed to work best. Is that consistent with your experience? Even my 3S 450mAh was tail heavy.
@@michaelclinerc3211thanks for the reply. This plane has had the elevator issue locking dueing flight so it may have been that during the again flight too.
Hi Michael. Your flying is inspirational - I don't know how you get it all so rock-steady! Can I ask - do you have particular transmitter settings for your slow rolls, 4-point rolls etc? Any mixes, or low or high rates of expo? Or is it all simply in smooth stick control? Thanks
Thanks! I do not use any mixes or high/low rates and I am flying it with the maximum control surface deflection I can get. Because of this I fly with 50% to 60% expo to smooth the response around center. Other than that just lots of practice. The significance of the 4-point roll is that it was the first precision aerobatic maneuver I was taught and mastered and it is the foundation for slow rolls, 8-point rolls, rolling circles, rolling loops, etc.
@@michaelclinerc3211 Thanks Michael. I'd never thought to use that much expo. Just dialled in 50% expo on a simulator and it made an immediate difference to the neatness of my slow rolls.
Thanks SEND IT RC! Unfortunately the Air Tractor does not come from the factory set up to accept the E-flite UMX float set. I think it can be easily modified to accept them though and I plan to add them at some point this summer.
I can't find the "umx float set" as an option fit the plane on the horizon hobby site.. Nor on the we pages of many other 3rd party retailers. Is it just listed as a "generic" umx floats? Or are there floats SPECIFICALLY made for the UMX TURBO TIMBER EVOL?? thanx for any advice.. Really want to place my order.. Great video!
Haha! The train was quite a bit louder when I first arrived at the lake to fly. I waited a few minutes for it to move a ways down the tracks but it still made more noise than I anticipated.
After thousands of float plane flights in the past 50 years I’m fortunate that it is automatic for me and I don’t really think about it when I take off the water.
As soon as you throttle on and begin moving forward, apply elevator. Use rudder just to steer it. Drop flaps to at least 50% as well. Stay on the elevator until you're UPPame viola.
What the heck.??? No inverted tail drag on that silky smooth water??? total disappointment.. 🙂. Always enjoy watching what you can with your planes.. great flying....
Since you've flown both, does this feel better than the new Air Tractor? Really like the Air Tractor but kind of disappointed it doesn't have the ball links this has. Plus you can't use floats, yet they cost the same.
I really, really like both the Air Tractor. They fly very similar but the UMX Turbo Timber is set up to accept floats. I will probably modify my Air Tractor to accept floats at some point. I too was a little disappointed that the Air Tractor does not have ball links but I haven't really noticed it in flight.
@@michaelclinerc3211 thanks, actually thinking about it I never had any problems with the linkages on my UMX planes. And yeah, I thought about adapting something for the floats on the Air Tractor, hope I will get one soon then I can see hands on.
You're my inspiration, Michael! 😃 This skill level is exactly where I want to be some day. What a beautiful and dead calm morning!

Excellent float-flying! And that is some seriously glassy water! Loved the train horns in the background, too. Reminds me of my hometown. 😎

Glassy smooth water, silky smooth flying. Good combo...😁

Absolute mastery in the air Mike...bravo my friend!!

Fantastic site, and EXCELLENT flying. Super video. 👍🏻🙂

@@michaelclinerc3211 yes my friend ! I remember in 1967 or 68 the control line with the little Cox motor ! That was Nice for that time ! 👍
Great flight! Awesome flying 👍
Thanks Wayne!
thats the Next step UMX!!!
i love the versatility the little UMX Turbo Timber Evo offers.
Nice flying Bro. I must say that your flying is as smooth as the surface of the water you were flying off of.

I love the way you fly mate

I’ve only flown mine with the recommended 3s 300mAh packs. I’ve had two of them and both are the same.
@@michaelclinerc3211thanks for the reply. This plane has had the elevator issue locking dueing flight so it may have been that during the again flight too.
For me that is some pretty white knuckle flying. But you seemed pretty relaxed. Lol
For me the stress while flying corresponds directly to the amount of money I have invested in the airplane. I’m pretty chill when flying UMX’s. 😉

now If only the tracks were right next to that pond that would be the best flying spot ever.
They are pretty darn close. 😀 It’s still a really nice spot to float fly from.
Great Flight Mike!
I ordered my first umx the air tractor 😊 do you think I will be able to mount floats to it for flying off water?

Odd, I got one to fly as a STOL plane. Not like a high speed trick plane.
It's actually both. I've flown mine off from everything from a large mud puddle to Lake Michigan and it never disappoints.
how much wind can it fly in?
It will handle a surprising amount of wind and remain very manageable.
or to dumbit down... TOO MUCH!!!!!
Damn, I wanted to see submarine mode. Maybe next time.
Ha! I haven't set submarine mode up yet because I can't decide which switch I want to put it on. ;)
