Thanks Jon! Awesome review and test flights for us. Love your comparison of the old vs the new … very helpful. Mine just arrived … looking forward to getting her in the air. Keep up the great work!
A good demonstration of the capabilities of these little beer-cooler foam planes and the differences between the various models. All are quite capable in the hands of a good pilot but I fear that I will never own one. While there are some mitigating circumstances for US residents, the foam fragility as compared to EPP, the price per feature and the additional shipping costs to the rest of the world mandate against a purchase for Old Farts (and others) with poor (and deteriorating) skills like us. 😢 Luckily there are any number of other little crash resistant EPP toys out there to keep us entertained at a reasonable cost. P.S. Nice to see that you yourself have partly broken free from the Spektrum wallet-trap by purchasing a Radiomaster TX16S Multi Protocol Radio that provides a wide range of choice of receivers (including Spektrum) and powerful programming features at a fraction of the cost of Spektrum-only proprietary transmitters! 😉
Thank you! Both the Spektrum and RadioMaster have their plus and minuses. It is far easier for me to program even the most complicated setups like a dual-servo V-tail with dual servo ailerons and dual servo flaps on my Spektrum transmitter because of it’s visual programming which does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. However, once you understand how to program the Radiomaster, you will see that she has a lot more versatility and a lot more options in programming!
I'm old(72), and only started flying fixed wing aircraft a few years ago.Went from an E-flite Sport cub -s. Came with a cheap transmitter and was RTR. Graduated to a Timber, then Turbo Timber, and now TT Evolution. They are so capable, and cheap, compared to larger craft. They'll bind to any multi protocol transmitter, or Spektrum, if you're into proprietary companies. You won't regret buying an Evolution. Even if you crash, the parts are all readily available at Horizon Hobby. This was a great video with an awesome pilot. But I think I have just as much fun with mine, not doing everything Jon does.
As always... nice flying Jon. I've had 3 TTs but instead of getting a 4th I went with the TX. I'm not unhappy with my TX, actually like it better than my previous 3 TTs, but I would have gotten this TTE if I had waited about 3 weeks. I'll eventually get this model; I'll just have to be patient.
I am very happy with the UMX Evo. I have all the UMX Timbers and my honest opinion is that the UMX Evo is the best UMX Timber ever produced! It doesn’t need a 3S, I fly at 25% throttle and that is plenty but it’s definitely fun to punch it once in a while!
Ever since the UMX Timber X came out I have been less enthused about the little TT. I think this new TTE is a vast improvement. I'm sure I will end up with one eventually.
Great video. There is another video by Brian Phillips and he mentioned that it needs tons of programming. I have very little programming experience. Did you do any programing? I also have a jumpler t12 that uses open tx , i am wondering if it will be very difficult to try to use it with this timber evolution...any comment? (i am an intermediate pilot with a very small park per fligth field) Thanks.
Hi! I’m running EdgeTX and there wasn’t very much programming involved. The flaps were already configured fine by the wizard. The only things I did were 1) add a mix for flap and negative elevator which was just a matter of pairing the flap switch with elevator offset (which isn’t really necessary but nice to have) and 2) setting my positive and negative maximums to the highest and lowest possible for the most deflection. Happy Flying!
I love this video, great flying and it shows the plane is capable of flying in small area's. One question: Could you tell me what your settings are for the TX 16 S?
Hi! Flying this plane as a beginner is *doable*, but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re wanting a smaller model to start with, I definitely would recommend the Hobbyzone Sport Cub S2 as a starting point. It is much slower than this one, and is very easy to maneuver and fly. My main concern is that the Timber EVO may be too fast and nimble for what you’re aiming for. Good luck!
Hi! I’m not using any modules on my TX16. I purchased it in the 4-1 version, meaning the multiprotocol system is already installed in the transmitter. I do plan on getting an ELRS module for it sometime!
I think I'll get one of these. I'm on the fence though... so far the only plane I've owned/flown is a Volantex mini Corsair so I'm basically a total newbie. This one seems to be a good beginner plane, but I'm afraid it wont last very long with my skills... also did you run into any issues when binding it to the TX16S? I got a Zorro but I've read some confusing stuff about binding with the UMX planes
I had no issues binding to the TX16S. I used the DSMX-2F protocol and had no issues with range or latency. The new micros are a breeze to bind, it’s mostly the older discontinued micros that can have some problems.
LOTTA spektrum ppl are swapping over to Radiomaster tx16s! After my pos 20se that was trash the day it arrived, was enuf to swap me AWAY from spektrum! $2K for a pos tx was insane! I got the ag01 on my mk2. Spektrum wishes it felt AS nice! For less than $400
Hi, I tried the included slats on this plane off camera, and from what I saw, I was able to fly a bit slower and it felt a little floatier. However, I lost performance in high energy aerobatic maneuvers, so I decided to keep them off.
Has anyone figured out a way to program flaperons for the umx turbo timber evolution? I've seen it done for the umx timber x, but was told that it wouldn't work for the evo.
I’ve tried doing it too, and it is probably possible but I just don’t know how to program it. Flaperons on the Timber X is something that is advertised, and was designed to have flaperons. Both the flaps and the ailerons are on the same surface. On the EVO, there are 2 respective surfaces for both the flaps and ailerons. To set up flaperons, you would need 2 cables for flaps that plug into the receiver individually, so you can set an aileron/flap mix where one flap pushes positive and the other flap pushes negative. I just don’t know how to do this on a micro.
You got it wrong bro! I wear pajamas because I care a lot for this channel! Flying by yourself when nobody cares how you fly or crash is very different than when you're flying on camera for a RUclips video with 4700+ subscribers potentially watching and critiquing every second of your flight!. I wear pajamas to the field because I'm comfortable in it. The more comfortable I feel, the better I fly! The better I fly, the more views the video generates! So, if wearing pajamas AND crocs will allow me to be myself and enhance my flying, then I'm wearing pajamas! :-)
coming back to this. i thought the same exact thing when i purchased a umx timber. i have since bought the umx turbo and X. love them all. they actually don't explode or break on gentle crashes and even a wot piledrive can be glued back together and still fly amazing. you can do it multiple times and the thing keeps coming back for more. TLDR. looks can be decieving
Why is there a lot of times a gun range near flying fields? There is one by my flying field too and I've seen other fields with gun ranges right next to them.
You sure make that look so smooth, some really skilful piloting there! Thanks for the effort you put into making these videos.
Thank you!

Great job my friend. Fun to watch you fly. I watch em all.
Thank you!
Nice flight Jon. you are amazing.
Looks like it flies great! I'm just waiting for them to be back in stock!
She flies awesome! She has become my new favorite go-to UMX!

I’m excited about this plane
It’s an awesome UMX!
You make all of them look amazing, my MAN, looking good. 009

I enjoyed both but hands down I definitely enjoy flying this UMX TT Evo more than the X! This UMX can do it all and does it with ease!
This little plane looks awesome! What is the foam type? I’m looking for one with EPO foam so it can handle a bump or 2
Jon did you have to trim the umx on the maiden flight? And did you have to adjust the surface controls before you took it out to the field?
Hi, I only had to trim out my elevator for the maiden flight. No adjustments had to be made to fly it. Happy flying!

@@JonsRC it doesn't sound too bad...i hope i can do it with my jumper t12 if i buy the plane. thanks

Hey man. Nice flying. What module are you using with your tx16s?

Do you get pack voltage telemetry with your setup?
Hey Jon, i saw your running on tx16 controller. This means that this model will work with the 4-1 module that comes in tx16? Thanks!!
Yes! The DSM X 2F protocol worked perfectly for me.
@@JonsRC Can i also add my own pwm reciever on this plane and still have the AS3X ??
Normal bnf/pnp yes. Umx's use a rx/esc board. Makes it almost impossible.
Very nice!
Thanks!

Jon would love it fly with you. I’m in the quad citys. You anywhere around there
Thank you! I’m actually not from there. I’m based in Southern California. This is the San Gabriel Valley Radio Control Flying Field!
Is this still your favorite umx? I know, HH is coming out with new umx's every week, lol.
This Timber is probably now my second favorite UMX, with the Waco coming in first!

Rc video reviews on RUclips has a video on the mix for the tx16s.
just watched cars 2, out of this world

Looks cheap and flimsy.
if it wasn't built so light it wouldn't fly so light.
Always a negative who has no clue.

Who knows? The rifle ranges want extra practice I guess? 😆
