- We decide to explore more of North Carolina and head down the Albermarle Sound to Manteo we have our share of mishaps through out the day. Sailing can be challenging and living daily life on a boat has it's own ups and downs. We sail up the Alligator River on the ICW and head east to Manteo to explore the Outer Banks.

If you ever cross to UK waters, you will find that crab pot markers are the big hazard. They are supposed to be marked with a flag but many are just a gallon poly bottle, hard to spot against the "white horses".
We saw some like that in Louisiana

Good idea to have 2 forms of navigation on, the chart plotter turned off the chart function just as we were coming into an anchorage with a lot of reefs

Looking at the float you pulled up, that could have been slightly submerged under water when you hit it to begin with. It may have been an abandoned trap. Thank goodness it was an easy repair.

I'd give you my thoughts but I know nothing about electric motors on sail boat. So I guess you're on your own with this one.
I like that you're telling us that you're looking up information on where to go and what to pay attention to when you get into that area because I haven't sailed and I'm learning information I need to start paying attention to. I only wish that you had a literally told us what you were looking at to get that information and actually show us images of what it looks like. Maybe one of these times when you do a trip you could literally walk us through all those steps. Maybe even explain why you look at certain things versus others and when.

Nope, there’s nothing to protect it. They do make something that’s supposed to cut it off… we are exploring the idea.

Here I go again, sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. I picked up on Todd saying the autopilot sometimes doesn't work properly when your total battery voltage is lower. It may be the autopilot isn't receiving proper voltage. Possibly a cheap Amazon voltage regulator, connected inline powering the autpilot, may solve your problem. Watch the channel Gaget John with the episode "I can't believe it made a difference". I know I'll be looking where a regulator may may make a difference on my boat and RV.
Ah Tuckahoe Pt. Buzzed there 1998 by F18s doing practice runs. Loud and close. Peaceful bit nite tug barge traffic. Same hot and sticky. Keep on trucking. Same hot sticky here in Ottawa. Not so much in North Channel of Lake Huron.

I was wondering that also, but knowing what a large family you have I figured she was taking time off of the sailing stuff and visiting the other family members.
