Replayed Prototype a couple of years ago, game holds up. That said, your complaints are valid; there's a couple of chokepoints where they throw waves of tough enemies at you and the vehicle sections are a slog. Worth getting through IMO but I get why you dropped it.
The thing with Alex's girlfriend in Prototype is she realizes what he is: the first victim of the virus in Penn Station. He's an imitation of Alex Mercer, not the real Alex. If John Carpenter's The Thing were a superhero, you get Prototype.
I try recapture that feeling I got as a kid with gaming. On my Megadrive, Ps2, Dreamcast. My Dad used to be a Lorry driver when I was a kid and every so often he would randomly bring me home a game. I distinctly remember one time he bought me Shaq-fu for my Sega mega drive. I had absolutely no clue this Shaq guy was a real basketball player being from Nothern Ireland. I remember being in absolute awe of all the cool looking characters and I can still picture some of them and their theme music. It wasn't until years later I saw that people mock that game, is known as one of the worst games. Which baffled me. But I think it's because now, we have so much variety it's overwhelming. Back when I was a kid, I had whatever came with the console or if I was lucky the odd game here and there as a present and I didn't care what it was, I found enjoyment in it. I got myself a ps2 again a few years ago and a 720p upscaler, but more recently I've been playing my bros 360 which he left here when he moved out. Got Hitman Absolution for £1.50, known by most as the worst Hitman game. I stuck it on easy, played through it like John Wick, had a blast. Finished it to the credits. Started playing Mafia 2 tonight. Was just in fricking awe of the Snowy city of New York in the 50s, the cars, the clothes, just walked about for ages. My point is, I think rather counter intuitively, if you go into a game with no expectations. I think it's a more enjoyable experience. I actually really like how xbox live used to give 2 free games a Month and they were just random games you might not ever think of playing. Honestly I would probably sign up to a subscription service which posted me two random 360 games a month to play through. It would probably capture that feeling again that I had playing Shaq-fu. Days gone the whole game youre doing fetch quests because your looking for your wife. 35 hours later you find her the give each other a little kiss and then she seriously wants you to do 5 more fetch quests. end of story
We’re all entitled to our opinions but since yours isn’t mine that means you’re wrong! I’m kidding. I love Dead Island, it’s the perfect amount of jank! Yeah, admittedly it’s slow in the beginning but it picks up and it’s not for everyone. Not every character’s play style is gonna work in the beginning, especially firearms since they’re found more in the mid to end game and much more viable against human enemies. With that being said, I understand the polish isn’t there, everything is as floaty as Hell in space, and unless you know to target specific limbs with your weapons it tends to feel unfair. But crafting Molotovs, upgrading a scythe and adding electric damage to it, and cutting the heads of zombies running towards you is satisfying. Throwing a grenade into a group of zombies is such a dopamine hit when you see the numbers and hear them die. It’s dark and messed up but in my opinion, it’s a good game. It could use a remaster and a little more polish but that jank is integral to the Dead Island experience. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Ive completed prototype and dead island as a kid, and i completly agree with the points you made Back then i had a lot of time so i didnt mind these issues but if i wanted to replay those right now i am sure I wouldn't be able to finish them
Ive been playing nothing but 360 games on my Series S lately. Probably why I got recommended this video, currently have Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Gears 2/3, Mirror's Edge and Prototype was on sale and almost bought that one but I decided to go with Prey 2006 instead. Wanted to play both as a teenager but never got around to them, looks like I'll skip Prototype now lol. Also still have the Re4 remake on there. Never been a huge nostalgia guy but man those games hit so differently and have aged like fine fucking wine now that I'm 25 and not 15 or however old I was when I first played them.
Makes sense. Prototype def has its audience, and like I said the general gameplay is good. If you find it in a sale bin it’s worth giving a try - but you’re not going to find your next favorite franchise in it.
I agree with your comments. I really liked Prototype at the start, but ultimately it was SUPER repetitive and I never finished it. Dead Island was a game I gave up on. I picked the sharp weapon user, and it felt like you so quickly ran out of weapons and couldn't progress. Sad because both games had lots of promise!
I only beat prototype one once it was hard because one achievement where you can't die at all in the whole game i beat Dead Island on PS4 both of them I found repairing your weapon and finding better level one does make it easier
I actually re-played dead island recently, becaused I loved it as a kid, and man did I become disappointed. It all just felt so repetitive. Escort missions with constant Infected type zombies just running at you. Protection missions with constant infected zombies running at you. Needing to get somewhere with constant infected type zombies running at you, trapped in a pit where you're tasked to fight a tribe's "warriors", well guess what they're all just infected type zombies running at you. Even in the final fight, it's just you shooting the final man with infected type zombies running at you. Another thing about the ending, is that you don't even save anyone. You get in a helicopter and leave EVERYONE behind. You don't go back to the resort, ort the church to save them. The game starts off pretty fun, and shows promise, but as you progress it gets obvious the game was rushed progression wise, story wise, and gameplay wise.

prototype is fine, just learn to play correctly. my only complain is there's 250 collectable spheres, would be good if game marked the collected one on map, so i don't lose track
I've played Prototype, it was pretty fun, I would get this just for the achievements 😉. Left 4 Dead > Dead Island I like watching Naruto but I never really got into the games. Another 2 games that should be added here and I've played both of them: Vampire Rain Ride to Hell Retribution

Bro i got the weirdest soft spot for dead island, it was the first game i played with online friends, the jankiness is what kept us going, everyone as sam b and rag dolling everything was always fun
i agree with theses takes but there is some stuff you have to remember these games are old and old games are clunky always but that clunkyness and love put into these games made them great Edit: also dead island is 13 years old and prototype is 15 years old these games arent going to be smooth lol
All of those games are trash except for Prototype that game was really good for its time sure it had some clunky controls but keep in mind most games from that era were like that you can’t play these games in 2024 with the mindset that they will play as good as what we have today.
Out of the dozens of 360 games I’ve played over the past year only these two really stood out - and that’s why I added the bonus Wii one! Thanks for watching though :)
Looks like I'm gonna wait to get prototype instead of buying it while it's on sale right now. Kind of sad, I thought it would be only good, I was wrong. It's rarely on sale, but I need to get good games first, then I'll play the fun but repetitive fast and not worth the full price games (though I literally only buy games on sale)

I played prototype 1 and 2 about 5 years and I enjoyed them, the tough enemies didnt bother me at the time, what did bother me was the cutscenes

We need a prototype remake to the lvl of FF7 remake.
