There was literally no need to make it public knowledge, if people wanted to know what happened to make op un invite her sister they would have asked but literally telling everyone publicly what op’s sister did made ops mom and passed look like bad parenting and despite some favouritism from mom it sounded like she had a good relationship with both parents so there was literally no reason to make a public announcement. If mom and dad was always cold to her I’d understand but both op and her sister were treated with love and respect so her making a spectacle of it dishonoured the loving parents one of which is die just to spite her sister. Her sister deserves the humiliation but her mom didn’t that’s why it’s wrong

@@Demonoicgamer666 Trying to break apart someone's marriage and elope with the ex to rub it into someone's face is more than enough reason to embarrass someone and show people how immature and malicious they act. It was her wedding and her decision to what she wants. OP's mother did show favoritism, that "soft spot" allowed for a lot of stuff that she couldn't get away with, OP's mother even said she "always sided with Jennifer". The Op saw the fruits of her labor. Her going full public on the sister ensured everyone knew, got proof, and couldn't be lied to. If Op had handled it quietly, the sister would have spun it around on her, and she would have to deal with family backlash instead. This way, Op doesn't even have to lift a finger against her sister, the family will do it for her. She wasn't juvenile, she used social etiquette to her advantage.

Making sure everyone knew was the only way to stop Jennifer in her tracks and shut down her stupid little plan.

Man, it's always amazing how one person's actions can nuke a relationship, and between these two sisters, it was due to a teenage boy. Although I am glad it was not narcotics that turned the sister into this petty child that refuses to let go of a grudge, it does show she lacks the maturity to deal with constantly being compared, cause that was what the boy did to fester her intense dislike for OP. I get it, nobody likes being put down or compared negatively, but as OP said, if the sister had come to her to discuss these issues, all this drama could have been nipped in the butt. Instead, this sister remained so immature, cause it's a lot easier to blame someone else rather than accept responsibility, which is what the sister has done all the way to adulthood. Whoever that teenage boy is and where he may be, I hope he never shows his face around OP's family again, cause it was YOU that started all this drama.

It wouldn't matter what path you chose, if you decided to go the private route, she could easily have changed the plan and still try to ruin your life. And despite you exposing her in front of everyone with receipts, she later still tried to spread BS.
So i think the decision you and your husband took was good enough. Sure, there could be other ways to deal with her, but we not all are master strategists to cook a way to put her on her place privately and preventing her of trying to make more mischief.
Your solution was effective enough, so now everybody is aware of her antics and to not trust her. Just keep an eye on her from time to time in case she still tried to do something or go mental.

I can’t help but feel sorry for her, especially the sister. It’s clear she has some underlying issues, and maybe I relate because of my own experiences with having an older sister. She definitely didn’t handle things well, especially at the wedding. Yes, she embarrassed you, and yes, what she did in school-calling you a thief-was wrong. Stealing is wrong, no doubt, and it clearly hurt your reputation. But I feel like you might be downplaying what you said to her back in high school. You said you “went nuclear” on her, and I think it’s possible you said things that really stuck with her, things she hasn’t been able to move past.
Keep in mind, you were graduating, moving on, but she still had to be there. And when it came to the wedding, even though her behavior was outrageous, I don’t think embarrassing her in front of everyone was the right way to handle it. It would have been bad enough to call her out in front of just a few close people-like your husband and in-laws. But doing it in front of the entire wedding? That’s the kind of thing people talk about for a long time. Word spreads, and that could seriously affect her reputation.
As for the post she made afterward, that’s on her. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even responded. I would have stayed quiet and tried to move on, because that whole situation is just humiliating for everyone involved.
One last thing-about your mom potentially cutting her off. I think that would be a mistake. Distancing people like your sister, going no contact-it’s not going to help her. I understand if you don’t want a relationship with her anymore, but your mom shouldn’t abandon her. Cutting her off could make things even worse, and as a mother, she might regret it later. That’s just my perspective on the situation.

So it's ok for Jennifer to humiliate OP over and over, but when she gets humiliated due to her own shitty actions it's bad and dragging the family name through the mud? Ya no I'd have told my mom to leave with her precious golden child if she had the audacity to say that to me.

The only time you should be the bigger person is if you can spontaneously gain 300 pounds and 4 extra ft. Being the bigger person doesn't make you better, smarter, classier, or more mature, it just makes you wish you had put them in their place properly.

I gotta agree with op’s mom, op had the right to confront and uninvited her sister but there was literally no need to make a public show of it just to embarrass her because it made op’s mom and her passed dad look like bad parent a for allowing her to turn into a spoiled brat.

Pro really let high school relationships ruin their relationship with their families. Unless my parents/siblings are racist, sexist, or have any narcissistic tendencies (boundary stomping) I’m not ruining my relationship with them.

I agree with the mother actually. OP sounds very childish after all these years. Not saying that what Jennifer did was okay because it wasn't, but OP could've handled this differently

“you don’t know what happened to turn her into someone like this”? YOU DID she’s still reacting to the humiliation she felt cos of what you did in hs. then the repeat of that with the stuff at the wedding is probably exactly the same to her. now ur laughing at her no sympathy and everyone on fb is too. and u dont even recognise it, not that u’d deign urself to doing anything for her.
yeah what she did was by no means good but if she’s malicious and evil or whatever the u are equally as horrible tbh.
this story is so frustrating i wish the mom never apologised, no growth.
op has the right to kick her out of the wedding, no doubt she was leaving anyway, but the rest was too much.
