Hello Wingnut. As always, I really love your videos. I wanted mention that you forgot (or maybe you are unaware of it) 1 version of Defender. Have you ever heard of the SAM Coupé computer? It was a kind of Spectrum ZX clone, but it had/still has 1 of the best/most accurate arcade ports of Defender that I have ever seen. It surpasses even the Super NES or C64 version. SimCoupe is the emulator in case you're interested. Take care & keep your awesome videos coming! They are the best! :-)
Hello Wingnut. As always, I love your videos. BTW....have you ever heard of the SAM Coupé computer? They made a kind of Sinclair Spectrum ZX clone. The SAM Coupé port of Defender is probably the most accurate of all. It was an 8-bit PC, but the graphics on the Defender port surpasses the C64 & even the 16-bit SNES version. The SAM Coupé emulator is called SimCoupe. Fairly easy to use & find ROMS for. If you're interested or want/need any info, just let me know.
J Waughtal I know. This video was made in 2004 & at the time I didn't really dig like I do now. I honestly didn't expect this series to take off like it did so I really didn't try all that well. But there is a link to the updated version that I had to pull off youtube because of some asshole who made a false claim.
This video is slated for a remake. Look for the new video this weekend. February, 23, 2013. I'll also be making a video for Defender II / Stargate. soon after.
Atari really screwed up the first version for the 2600. It was playable, but awful looking. Activision came out with Chopper Command at the same time. While it wasn't an arcade brand name like defender, it was basically the same game, but far superior. Atari really went all out for Stargate though. That game is an awesome arcade quality game for the lowly 2600. Come to think of it, Activision games always looked great. Sharp, colorful and extremely playable. Atari games always looked primitive in comparison. A lot of Atari's games weren't even playable. They got Moon Patrol and Ms Pacman right too towards the end of the 2600's run.
Defender. My favorite arcade game of all-time.
Cool vid thanks for the upload, like seeing all 13 versions of the two games.
@geebee123 Thanks ! :D I'm Glad You enjoyed it !
Another great comparison vid thanks! Small correction - the BBC Micro version that you used was called 'Planetoid'.
Nothing Beats the original STARGATE→ playing in the arcade for :20 mins► for 25 cents !

Commodore 64. I'm aware I spelled it wrong. lol When I was setting all of this up I mislabeled some of the emulation software.

This and Ms. Pac-Man were two of Midway's best known games before Mortal Kombat.
This is Williams buddy. I believe they eventually merged Bally/midway/Williams. Dr.J is the man!!!

The version of classic Defender on Defender 2000 for the Atari Jaguar beats all of these!
Do you take requests?
Isn't the Super Nintendo Defender just the Arcade game running on the digital eclipse emulator ?
Missing Megadrive version
Ironic... Megadrive version is very close to arcade and better than others
