Been 13 years for us, same situation. Just got back in touch over the weekend and dear god those feelings never go away. Never went away. In our case we were thick as thieves, knew each other better than anyone but always forced ourselves to date other people because we were terrified of ruining what we had as friends. Circumstances made me walk away, I got married, no kids, now I'm divorced. Things just work out sometimes. We're taking it slow though, theres a lot of things both of us still need to work on in ourselves but we made a promise to actually give it a go this time.

All the feelings were there just like 20 years ago was yesterday! Left me in total awe. Wow just wow! Here we are both 40 years old and it felt like 2 17 year olds who were madly in love. It’s just unexplainable
We met with my High School Sweetheart ( my first love) after 41 years but it didn’t work out. I love him so much in my entire life since High School but when we met after more than four decades I didn’t feel sincerity anymore from him. So I let him go and gave his happiness. That’s how I love him much to give him his happiness and give myself love and happiness as well.
Usually “Trial and Error” means = I’m going to put this guy on ice and see what better our there. If I dont find something better I can always come back to this guy.
If my ex called or texted me, I would not except her with kids at all. Plus it’s not the same. It’s past it’s time to move forward not back. It could hurt you more later if you except your past again.

Sounds like you have some significantly limiting beliefs. Cognitive distortions. We make our lives small and we become narrow-minded thinking that way. While it's a subconscious strategy to stay "safe" and in control, and life "certain"...it's actually not living in any sort of reality.
