i highly recommend watching the scarlet pimpernel for more inspiration! i grew up with the 1982 version which definitely added some 80’s horizontal-volume to jane seymour’s hair but still (while not completely accurate) a great rococo period film!

I actually made a robe a la française several years ago. Took me 40 something hours over a month to make it. I have never pleated so much in my life. I also learned to make paniers out of some left over cotton fabric and a garden hose. I will say that wearing it, I felt like the bell of the ball... Or at least very cool walking around GenCon.
Hi! The checked skirt you put on is not actually paniers! That is the over skirt portion of the popular silhouette of the period, either the robe a la francaise or the robe a l’anglaise. Paniers refer specifically to the structured undergarment under the petticoat and skirts worn. Just wanted to clear this up!
I was always told that rococo is very much like baroque, but where baroque over the top in a monumental sense, rococo is over the top in a busy, hella lot of small details sense.
