Facts
2024 here... I have finally used up 2tb of storage on my build and never even realized I had never set up my second 2tb stick. I KNEW it was in the computer but had no idea why it wasn't showing up, thank you so much this was so easy.
QUESTION, mine is showing up as not initialised and all that but I used to have stuff in it, does it mean its all gone? Or if I inicialize it I can see everything again or it deletes everything if it even still has it?
In my case after selecting MBR and pressing OK a pop up message comes and says tge request could not be perfirmed because of an I/O device error

I am using my seagate 1TB EX HDD since one year. There is 700GB data. Suddenly 7days back it gave beep sound. Light gone off. Then I ejected through safe removal process. Then again I attached with laptop and light is still off. But can feel the motor vibration by touching external hard drive. In my computer it is showing nothing. Went to disk manager... Then it is showing " Disk 1, unknown, 931.51 GB, not initialised, unallocated." in the properties it is showing that disk is working properly, partition style - not applicable ..... How to save the data of the HDD..?
I think your hard drive is gone, but you should take backup of data before proceeding.

when I chose MBR, my 4 TB hard drive split into 2 parts 2048.00GB unallocated and 1678.02 unallocated. Do I make new simple volume for both? Thanks
No, you can merge them and create a single volume.

Hi, Try This.
1) Go to Device Manager, right-click the name of your device, select Uninstall. (To Access Device Manager Right Click on Start Menu icon and click on Device Manager)
2) Keep your device connected. Restart the PC and Windows will attempt to re-install the driver.
Then try again to initialize your external drive. Hopefully Problem will be solved.

there is physical problem with your hard drive. Try Drive Health Scan to confirm.

If my old harddrive is not initialized and no size of space available (only shown "disk1 unknown Not initialized") does it means i should format it to MBR and wiped all my data on that disk? Thankyou
by initializing hard drive all the data will be lost, if the data is important for you, then get a backup of it before proceeding.
What if MBR and GPT didnt work? What is your next option? My hdd disk 1 didnt go online! Is there any chance to recover it?

i selected initialize and then mbr i waited for a while but it was still not initialized and then i tried gpt but then it shows "the operation failed because the disk management console view is not up to date. refresh the view using refresh task if the problem persist close the disk management console then restart disk management or restart computer"
after doing all its the same issue
If you are trying to mirror a partition, make sure it is the last one on the disk, and extend it to fill up any free space left after shrinking or deleting other partitions on the disk.

hello sir I have another issue when I was making a partition of 28gb my disk 166gb my pc got stuck and automatically restarted after that when my pc on the unallocated space is not showing in disk management and in file explorer it was showing that my hard disk capacity is 136gb but it was 166gb plsss help
did you set volume label while making partition, i think there is no label for the volume.

this error occurs when there is some physical problem with your drive. if you are connecting your drive with external usb adapter then try changing that adapter or change usb port. that might solve the problem but normally issue is with the drive.

if the same error appears again, then i think this ia an issue of faulty hard drive.

its most likely due to bad sectors or file system errors on your hard disk. So Try this to check.
1) Right-click on the drive which you wish to check and select Properties.
2) Click on the Tools tab. Under the Error checking, click on the Check button. This option will check the drive for file system errors.
3) Follow the wizard to complete the disk error check and restart your computer to repair the errors that were found.

probably due to hard drive fault, or if you are connecting externally , then check for for connector issue. Better to check the health of the drive. I know its new drive, but sometimes new drives are also faulty.

Fixed the I/O device error, disable hdd by right clicking in disk manager or disk management, restart comp. Go to disk manager and under disk drives right click the hdd and select enable. Go back to disk management and right click to initialize. Right click again and create simple volume. WD Black 6tb - Windows 10

I must say that it was a 100% working hdd that I connected through USB. The USB adapter works good because I have another HDD from other older computer and it works.

hmm strange. try health scan on your drive, because sometimes fault only appears when you try to initialize hdd. so better scan to be 100% sure.

I think I found out the issue but cannot solve it.
It must be related with something windows 10 does to the HDD because when I plug it inside the computer works perfectly but not through USB.
Other HDD's with older versions of windows works perfectly through USB...
Maybe windows 10 does an encryption? Maybe related with the initialization password? Maybe system partitions that win 10 does by itself?

I either get an i/o error, or the drive simply disappears and says something to the effect trying to access something that isn't even there.
Try Health Scan of your drive in HDSentinel Software.
@@TechRelatedTips I'll have to run it fast. I tried accessing the drive via CMD Diskpart using the clean. Clean worked, but then when I tried the partition command, it errored out, but not with a disk error, rather, the disk magically disappears~!
