@Mortltd like every other siren, the chopper in the 2001 however is mouted in the cylinder in the middle of the horn with the motor in the outter edge, and the chopper itself towards the base, it draws in air from vents under the horn assembly. all mechanica sirens work with choppers and some form of air source, however, electronic sirens now, work by....well, basicly they are PA systems on poles outdoors. that's basicly it, just giant P/A systems :P
one time when I was on our city bus going home they decided to go off. it scared the heck out of me. my mom had to cover my ears cause it was SO LOUD. thanks.
Our Village has a mix of these the new 2001-130's and the ever mighty thunderbolts! the 2001-130 sounds lower and more like a T-Bolt, because they use a similar style chopper.
My area is slowly adding these for warning sirens in the Three Mile Island nuclear plant emergency planning zone. FS 2001s are being added when and where the previous Penetrator P-10s were. Our area has about a 50/50 mixture of Cyclone C-125s and P-10s.
We have this type of siren where I live only they are used to alert us of escapes from the nearby Chino Prison rather than used as a Tornado siren. The one closest to where I live is a newer version of this model and has a lower pitch. The sirens are also tested in "attack" (a slower wail) which helps add to the effect of it sounding more like an air-raid.
Dallas johnson lol. We have a p-15 about 0.2 miles from my place. When I was little we had a tornado warning in the middle of the night I slept right through it.
I hear what sounds like a T-135 or Cyclone after the 2001 winds down and shuts up. the sound fades in and out, so it's most likely a directional siren rotating, so I'm gonna say a T-135.
This Siren Sounds Alright....i like the fact that this is a Mechanically Powered Siren...i prefer those to the more modern electronic ones....though i like the older ones better....i also agree that this Pitch is way too High...it should be just a little lower.
While this is a cool video, the 2001 will NEVER be as cool as the Thunderbolts and 2/3T22's. I miss our Thunderbolts and my local neighborhood 2T22. Now there are 2001's in their place. :^( I even liked the Thunderbeam across from my college because it was unique but it has been replaced by a 2001 too.
I have some family in Erie County. There are sirens, but only for Volunteer Fire Departments. Besides the one already mentioned, West Seneca has 1 Model 5, 3 Model 2s, and 2 STL-10s. Those are the only West Seneca sirens I'm aware of. I think I also saw an STH-10 in Lancaster.
That's exactly what I thought the first time I heard one! LOL. When the city replaced the old 2T22 with this model, I just thought it was a firetruck going by. I didn't take it seriously like I did the 2T22. It sounded like it meant business.
The first time I ever heard one of these was after they replaced the local 2T22 and Thunderbolt 1000T's. I thought it was a fire truck and not an outdoor siren telling me to take cover from a tornado!
Awsome video!!! Theres a small town not to far from me that has these. My city has Whelen Vortex sirens and Whelens are still my favorite sirens. Do I hear a Whelen in wail mode at the begining? The 2001s do actually sound pretty creepy.
this is doing Attack mode. I thought I heard a diffrent siren in the background during attack mode as well. might have been a t-bolt but I am not sure lol.
Exactly! All we have here in Kansas City, MO are these pieces of crap! I actually hope they don't get replaced, though. Why? Their replacements would be even less reliable electronic sirens like the Modulator or the Whelen!
KIEL IT!KIEL IT WITH FIRE! sorry everyone im a t-bolt lover. im only watching this because im doing some research to try to find out what kind of siren is in my hometown.i just cant seem to find it!
I knowtest that it would do Fast Wail on the coding sometimes, but sometimes they change the coding. And right now it is doing Wail. But sometimes it would do Steady.
When the siren turned on I heard a click. Then when it was done, heard others in the background. They sounded like creepy sounds, like war was coming. Was it a test or was it a tornado warning?
TheHate (as what your nickname says), the sirens save lives, when there comes threat, e.t.c. If there was none, you could just enjoy your chips on your sofa, when you are getting killed. Probably, the sirens get modified in the future. But try to think, if it cannot hurt your brain.
This was uploaded exactly 9 days before I was born. 😁
These are EVERYWHERE in Michigan. These Federal Signal sirens replaced the old Thunderbolt sirens.

In the background, there's definately a P-50 sounding. There's also a 2001 siren, and maybe even an allertor or a P-15.

According to Federal Signal's website this siren can only produce three signals: Steady, fast wail (which is heard in this video), and wail.
This goes off constantly here. I think there's three within three miles of my house. Then again, Indy is tornado alley.

was es doch für schöne Sirenen gibt, wahnsinn!!!
we have that same thing a street over from me and its loud ass hell im a heavy sleeper and it wakes me up
Dallas johnson lol. We have a p-15 about 0.2 miles from my place. When I was little we had a tornado warning in the middle of the night I slept right through it.
brand new 2001s are a bit louder than a 1000T and 1003 139 DB AT 100 FT BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOUD POLICE SIREN
has everyone noticed that the sirens in the background of this kind of video sound awesome??
@form109 It's supposed to be higher . This is a 2001 SRNB. They're higher piched than the 2001-130.
this is a 2001SRN which predated the 2001SRNB. 2001-130s have a taller box on the back and they have the farge FS logo on the cone.
I checked the siren archive and the only pic they had for Erie county was for Clarence and it is a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1003 at a fire station.
the sirens went off when I was at home it scared me

i drove my bike right under one when they were going off
we have nothing from this kind in germany.
We have air sirens with a radius from 13-16km
This Siren Sounds Alright....i like the fact that this is a Mechanically Powered Siren...i prefer those to the more modern electronic ones....though i like the older ones better....i also agree that this Pitch is way too High...it should be just a little lower.

Thanks so much for the clear, close-up video, Q.
I never heard their fast and slow wails before.
Why not end the video at the end of the test?

My favorite siren is the one that is used to prevent attacks from the enemy like a nuclear excercise in the street
They have these in Odell,IL and in Lincoln,IL

IMHO--these things sound like an ambulance--give me a T135, Allertor 125, or a T-Bolt any day.
Fast wail is the air raid alert, long wail is for tornado's do not forget that, someday you may need to know the difference.
I remember as a kid, i dont know how far i was from one of those things but i was in this big backyard and it went off. scared the shit outta me!
first there's fast wail, then attack
before it starts, u can here distant sirens
my town has a siren like that and it works perfectly
Sounds like either a 2T22 that got kicked in the balls, or a 2001 being manually operated.
Yes! It’s about five miles away too.
My town haves a siren it's a ACA P-15 or a Ameracin signal 130
Awsome video!!! Theres a small town not to far from me that has these. My city has Whelen Vortex sirens and Whelens are still my favorite sirens. Do I hear a Whelen in wail mode at the begining? The 2001s do actually sound pretty creepy.
thats a 2001 in attack mode. I believe. sounds so scary. this is my 2nd favorite siren. my all time favorite siren is the whelen 4004.
I love this video....
My cat was freaking out when I was watching this video, lol
Lol
Well at the beginning it is, so your right, It is Fast Wail.
I've never heard ours do that. It kind of makes it cool - but not near as cool as the old FS Tbolts and 2/3T22's they replaced.
@hammoody12345 could be the batteries if it's DC, so that what causes that 'sound drop'.
sounds like a hurricane warning but not as loud
I thought only the 2001-130s could do the fast wail. This is SRNB.
this is doing Attack mode. I thought I heard a diffrent siren in the background during attack mode as well. might have been a t-bolt but I am not sure lol.
That job is better suited for the Allertor.
hear the sounds at Milano black and white movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!Amazing audio and film style?!
Chrysler in KC, MO too.
Exactly! All we have here in Kansas City, MO are these pieces of crap! I actually hope they don't get replaced, though. Why? Their replacements would be even less reliable electronic sirens like the Modulator or the Whelen!
they just put 1 just like that up next to my window and a tornado really was comin and scared the !@#$ outta me
@matteng1997 Actually this one's an SRN.
This Siren sounds like a Fire Truck of the wailing.
there is a 2001 at a vaulnteer fir department near me it says model # 2001TR
Haha. I hear a ASC T-135 in the background after the FS 2001 is done.
it's in fast wail mode, that's why its doing that.
It's like hills have eyes
i turned volume up full and pointed the speakers out side durning a thunder storm and ppl thout it was real lol
@dinxton2 all 2001's sound High Pitched to me....their sound just isnt good to me...not on any of the 2001's.
This is the type of siren in my town
Yeah it does sound like a prison break
KIEL IT!KIEL IT WITH FIRE!
sorry everyone im a t-bolt lover.
im only watching this because im doing some research to try to find out what kind of siren is in my hometown.i just cant seem to find it!
better thant the 3016
Is this in the city of Arlington or Euless?
What is the very faint siren sound you hear at the beginning?
GREAT !!!!
I knowtest that it would do Fast Wail on the coding sometimes, but sometimes they change the coding. And right now it is doing Wail. But sometimes it would do Steady.
Nice job Q. Held very steadily if you held it by hand. Interesting to hear the different siren modes.
Thanks,
Can all 2001s do that wail that this did before attack? Or is it on certain 2001s in the 2001 series that can wail like that?
That was a Whelen omni-directional in wail mode.
The same siren at my house.
cool video
When the siren turned on I heard a click. Then when it was done, heard others in the background. They sounded like creepy sounds, like war was coming. Was it a test or was it a tornado warning?
Have you heard an American Signal T-135 (ACA P-50)? Talk about weird.
I have to deal with that shit all the time here in oaklahoma it's enoying but it give a heads up
One of these sirens is close to me
i know... the person i replied to said "why is it making the sound like aaaooooaaaaaaooooaaa? is that supposed to be some sort of signal?"
Is this a 2001-130 or is it something else?
how do snrbs or something or another work?
lol. sounds like a fire truck!!
2017 watcher
I live near a 2001 and it says 2001TR on the box. What does it mean?
TheHate (as what your nickname says), the sirens save lives, when there comes threat, e.t.c. If there was none, you could just enjoy your chips on your sofa, when you are getting killed. Probably, the sirens get modified in the future. But try to think, if it cannot hurt your brain.
Is that the FastWail signal?
Is that a tornado siren?
nice
Is it on Attack?
Is wail attack?
Where's this located?
Wow
I heard a Whelen in wail before, Where was this taken?
Collin Sunday most likely Dallas tx
@@whiplashfirephotography8348 But where in the DFW area?
@Rcrby525 OK don`t get all siren science here.
2001-srnb

Do you want a cookie? lol
