The 8mm Mauser/7.92 x 57js is a very underrated cartridge in the USA. It is very 30-06 capable AND recoils like the 30-06 stout recoil. Very capable hunting cartridge.
True keeper. the feeding and ejection is outstanding. the way a mauser action is supposed to eject !! as a younger man (I'm 77) I could also go through a box or two of ammo at the range shooting rifles with steel buttplates. But those days have long passed. I just don't enjoy that kind of punishment any longer lol. Just a suggestion of course, but I would come up one notch on the rear ladder at 100 meters get on paper. Just too much guess work after all, that's what the rear "adjustable" sight is for lol. Outstanding groups with open sights. thanks for sharing.
Thanks ET! I must admit this VZ24 was more punishing than my Chinese Type 53, that 8mm Mauser definitely packs a punch!!! Actually, you're right, I'll just raise the rear when shooting again and find my zeros at the same distances. I am also looking for the correct front sight height that corresponds with the rear tangent, but still researching. Thanks for watching!!!
Salut! Nice rifle and shooting as always. Your low groupings are typical for commercial PPU 8mm mauser which is underloaded at about 2200fps when period military 8mm was around 2500 to prevent any issues from people shooting it in older 8mm rifles with .318 bores.
Ahhh that makes sense! I plan on making some hand loads with the PPU brass and definitely keep that in mind! Do you know if my front sight is the correct height? Thanks for watching!!!
@@HangInThereCat I'm not sure what vz.24 standard heights were, only german made mausers at about .196-.230 ranges. Granted the vz.24 has a minimum setting of 300 meters. If you did want to continue using PPU ammo. It looks like you'd need a .281 sight height to raise it 5 inches at 100 yards using old sight height formula. (if your sight radius is about 19.8 inches) Best of luck!
@@marholdt1731 Thank you!!!! Will still use PPU for now, but will eventually hand-load. The sight radius measured exactly to 19.8 inches! .281 looks like will work! Thank you for that! Appreciate you!
Like another viewer mentioned: PPU is underpowered 8x57 ammunition. So that could be effecting bullet impact. Sellier and Bellot 8x57 cartridges have a muzzle velocity that is much closer to the original load. Love the channel! I look forward to more from this series.
Nice! S&B looks to be in stock as well, I'll try some! Got a hold of some more 50's Yugo as well, the same used with my yugo k98k vid 😉. Next video may be slightly delayed, TX weather not cooperating..😆. Thanks for watching!
Is that the standard front sight for this contract type? I find the open Mauser sight is best to distinguish the target object (Not paper target) As opposed to the .303 Post type as it kinda blocks the view making it harder to locate eg target blends in with background and you need to recheck target a few times where the Open top K98 Sight you don't need to keep rechecking ya aim. I especially loved the 7.7 Arisaka peep sight with the Notch for 100m shots. It was a lot of fun! Nice shooting btw.
I believe it is a contract type, how it came from the factory. Yes the 7.7 Arisaka peep is excellent!!! Hoping to get my other Arisaka out to the range in the future! My range has been under construction for couple of months now! Thanks for watching!
@@HangInThereCat The Mauser and Arisaka are great fun to shoot. The Mosin M91/30 Not so much if ya not 6ft with broad shoulders. they kick hard and the location of the scope makes you lean forward which then makes the Buttstock sit awkward on ya shoulder. That front sight you have on that thing is odd. Yeah how weird are the Stamps on that k98 N what's with the 'P' stamps It's Luftwaffe early Lam stock so perhaps that's something to do with it. Has me stumped. There's also what looks like a downward pointing arrow with ss runes. N the skull isn't the totenkopf style but more Symetrical human style. I have a German Law book from 1935 that has that exact same skull in it, Only now I need to translate Germanic Gothic script. Lol. I'll have to keep an eye out on ya channel for when ya get the Arisaka out. I'd love to see a doco on how the Japs Chromed the Bores on the 7.7 To prevent rusting. The 6.5 I had had a large bulge near the end and it'd throw rounds off by a foot at 25 yards. Didn't know till i cleaned it. In fact it actually shot not too bad at first. Once I cleaned it the chunk became more pronounced. Cheers from Oz mate! Have a Good one!
Wow very nice Romanian vz24. I plan on buying one as well, I want a rifle that’s part of romanias history. How did you get this, did you have to go through an auction, I see most of these are only found at auctions. Are you in the US?

Nice rifle man. My K98 Has this VZ style sling loops made During ww2 added to it. The Upper handguard matches the Wood stock only the lower Band, band spring, and Bolt are a MM It's a Waa623 Steyr Marked Band with the added swivel sling on it. The rear swivel loop is unmarked. Both are well made the welded swivel on the band is done very well the rear swivel is Carved out a little crudely. Check out my vid on it n tell us what you think. Many weird stamps on it. Including a soviet style star on the barrel. :/
