We won the second division in 1966. I had an ST in main stand throughout the 63 relegation and the three seasons in the second division. We had our lowest ever league gate (8015), for which I still have the program. You'd think it was terrible, but it was unforgettably wonderful.

@johnholden9556. My first game at Maine Road was in Aug. '62 V Aston Villa (Alex Harley's debut) I was on the scoreboard with my elder sister, My Dad was in his usual seat in Block H of the Main Stand. He had a season ticket from just after the war up until his death in 1970. He luckily lived long enough to see us win the ECWC. You are quite right John, it was unforgettably wonderful.

@@Sergio-ig1xd What I remember most (worst) about that season was waiting optimistically for our result on Grandstand, on the first Saturday, only to hear "and the young Wolves score eight". Oh dear.
My dad took me as a toddler in 1952, he died in 77, the week of Belly's comeback.
City has been a huge part of our lives.

@@tremensdelirious Supporting City back in those days you got a flavour of why people support small clubs who'll never win anything. The black humour was priceless, the simplicity of deciding to travel at the last minute, and knowing you'll get in, and every so often a magical promotion season.

Great story John, a bit before my time, I grew up with cousins who were united fans and took me to many games to try to convince me to support united. When I was 7 in 1974 a distant cousin took me to Maine Rd to see Manchester City get beat 1-2 by Crystal Palace, I was hooked.
I thought I'd been through the ringer but your story of the early 60's tops my experiences, though you did have the joy of our amazing success from 68 through 70.
Never been a better time to be a Manchester City fan. What a fantastic story we all have, long may it continue 😁😆😉😊💙CTID.

@@Telssa1 Yes the 1-8 put my dad in a terrible mood. One thing about that opening day hammering was that Wolves scored all 9 goals. Then The West Ham 1-6 with Bert being sent off. WHU did us 1-6 in both games. If we had replicated the pools panel results we would have stayed up in '63. I was 8yo that season. My biggest shock of that season was getting beaten by 2nd. Div. Norwich. My old man always said that supporting CITY was a grounding for life, it prepares you for all the disappointments I would encounter later on. Have a good weekend Blue.

A story that I've experienced since my first season ticket aged 11 in 1979.
My two best experiences as a fan prior to 2012 - the 5 - 1 battering of United in 1989, and the penalty win against Gillingham a decade later in 1999, two great days.

I remember back in 99’ when United had just won the treble. I was a City the only fan out of my group of mates, I’d have given anything to just at least have my team win at least an FA Cup before I died or even a League Cup. My friends would all banter me, “keep your little 3rd division title, we’ve just won the treble”. Looking back on it now after all these years, now that City have just won the treble and have become the best English football in recent years. I wouldn’t swap my football journey for nothing. United can keep their “history” their endless trophies, their night in Camp Nou. This teams runs through my vein’s always has done. CTID💙💙💙

Tony Book and Joe Corrigan are well remembered along with the Manager who turned City around back then, Malcolm Allison! It was a great time, but we had heartbreaks too on the way to greatness, but it was all worth it to wait for Pep to make his career and become the best manager City has ever employed! City fan since forever, having my first major city heart break in the 81 cup final, followed by years of being typical city. Hardly any blue shirts at school, all your mates utd fans, watching them win loads in the 90's. Never really knew a winning city as I was too young to remember the Bell, Summerbee, Lee era. Watching us yoyo in between leagues and the highlights of managing not to get relegated occasionally.
Still had some great moments standing in the kippax and the elation of the Gillingham win.
Never imagined we'd be there winning trebles, only club ever to do the domestic treble which seems to get over looked even though we're the only team in England to ever accomplish that.

May 1998 was 20 years in the making. During the 70s the club lost direction after the success of the late 60s. They were getting by with occasional top 4 finishes. The decline started in earnest when Peter Swales appointed Malcolm Allison in 1979 to bring back the glory days. There were several instalments on the way. The first being relegation by Luton in 1983.
I was 18 and just got my first car. Someone smashed into the back of it on Oldham Road on the way to the match!

City: we won a treble kid

@@tomben6180 Yeah united fans are bad, disgusting and hypocrites. They spend a billion, proceeding to call us "only good bcz of money". We have the highest attendence and they say we have "an empy stadium" And they don't even have loyal fans and ain't good. Disgusting fans
Their fans leave the game as soon as things aren't going well for them. Plastic united fans
