When I was 7 in 1974 a distant cousin took me to Maine Rd to see Manchester City get beat 1-2 by Crystal Palace, I was hooked. I thought I'd been through the ringer but your story of the early 60's tops my experiences, though you did have the joy of our amazing success from 68 through 70. WHU did us 1-6 in both games. If we had replicated the pools panel results we would have stayed up in '63. I was 8yo that season. My biggest shock of that season was getting beaten by 2nd. Div. Norwich. My old man always said that supporting CITY was a grounding for life, it prepares you for all the disappointments I would encounter later on. Have a good weekend Blue.
A story that I've experienced since my first season ticket aged 11 in 1979. My two best experiences as a fan prior to 2012 - the 5 - 1 battering of United in 1989, and the penalty win against Gillingham a decade later in 1999, two great days.
I remember back in 99’ when United had just won the treble. I was a City the only fan out of my group of mates, I’d have given anything to just at least have my team win at least an FA Cup before I died or even a League Cup. My friends would all banter me, “keep your little 3rd division title, we’ve just won the treble”. Looking back on it now after all these years, now that City have just won the treble and have become the best English football in recent years. I wouldn’t swap my football journey for nothing. United can keep their “history” their endless trophies, their night in Camp Nou. This teams runs through my vein’s always has done. CTID💙💙💙

Thank you for sharing the history of the club. I love hearing stories about City and players who played for us. I was not always a football fan but when I moved to Stockport I did have respect for the club and it’s loyal following. I started following City because of my little boy who had friends who were City fans. He and I have shared many moments following City and he was only little when City won the Prem for the first time. It has been a rollercoaster but I wouldn’t change a thing.

Hardly any blue shirts at school, all your mates utd fans, watching them win loads in the 90's. Never really knew a winning city as I was too young to remember the Bell, Summerbee, Lee era. Watching us yoyo in between leagues and the highlights of managing not to get relegated occasionally. Still had some great moments standing in the kippax and the elation of the Gillingham win. Never imagined we'd be there winning trebles, only club ever to do the domestic treble which seems to get over looked even though we're the only team in England to ever accomplish that.
