They were nothing for most of their history as well until the 1980’s right up to 2012 when City ended their run. So it was a period of less than 30 years of PARTIAL Man United dominance. City is currently on 12 years of TOTAL dominance and showing no sign of stopping soon.

So if you're trying to downplay the success we had in those times it's really not working. Why do Man City use the date of 1894 instead of 1880? Man City use the date when they changed their name. Whereas Man United use the date the club was originally set up in 1878 rather than 1902 when they actually became Man United.

I've been a fan since I was a little kid, first match with my Uncle Bill when I was 4 years old in 1964. It's always bugged me that we put 1894 on our crest, and yes, that's when the name changed, but it's not when the club was founded. We should put the true date on the crest, 1880. I've written to the club before now asking them to change this. It's not dishonest it's the literal truth and every fan knows it that the club was formed in 1880 and we should proudly display it.

We also won our first major trophy (FA Cup) before Chelsea even existed and when you compare the number of top flight trophies City won vs Chelsea before Roman came in, we had won more. Yet we have no history and have only been around since 2008 🙄

Fun fact, Trautman is widely regarded as the pioneer of the sweeper keeper movement, with Lev Yashin quoting Trautman as his hero.
Trautman was also a POW in England having been in the German army during WWII, he had to really win the fans over given his history in the Germany military.
Trautman is one of the many legendary players the club has had. But obviously the media is only concerned with playing up the post 2008 city.
