I love having a unit with a Ninja Master in the backrow with two fire-elemental Witches. The three of them will do combination attacks that do massive damage to the entire enemy unit AND stuns them. Also, the Ninja Master will automatically change his alignment to that which will do the most damage to the most enemies. Found it by accident, but it's been a staple of my runs ever since!
Ogre battle 64 is one of my favorite games of all time, good to see that there are other people who appreciate it. Amazing story, epic music, and fun gameplay all wrapped up in one.
this is one of the most unknown and underrated games... this is and will always be my favorate game... my best team i had is one where i used beat the final boss in two turns... this was a fun game.
Seeing the higher ended spells reminded me of the last time I played this game. I think I have 2 parties I actually used to fight and had 3 or 4 others hanging around to follow behind and liberate for them. I miss this game.
Dope video, thanks for compiling that. There was quite a few I'd never seen, mostly witch combo spells. Amusingly, most of the witch combo spells just inflicts poison. Except for the spell 'poison plant' which paralyzes. (& also uses a shroom for the animation, which isn't a plant)
@Daigotsu so I did some research on the ones who remix this song and the original version came from March of the Black Queen aka Ogre Battle Snes hah....who knew?!?!?! :D
There isn't a particular level that they need to be before they can cast combo spells. You just need to keep groups together, have them fight in a number of battles and such. Don't do things like, switching position, changing classes, or removing/adding new units into groups too much. There's this sort of attraction level or some such between the units. Once it gets to a certain point they can start casting combination spells as long as the spells are compatible and they're in the same group
best is to promote a bunch of soldiers very early, so you get lvl 3 fighters and amazons, which you can then grow into whatever class you intend them to be later on. each class gains proportionately different amounts of the stats that benefit certain attributes, so it eventually pays to do this. thats why certain chars of the same lvl, equipment and type do different dmg or have different hp.
Ah, good work! It's nice to see a youtube video with the Dragoon and Princess as part of the battalion. Poison plant was my favorite combination spell by far
Nice. It could do without the emulation background graphic glitching, but other than that, looks great. Thanks for putting this up, especially so long after the game has been released. Wow, it's been two generations. OB64 persists. Ionosphere is my favorite. =D
this is true - the witch gains 6int and 5ment per lvl, whereas sorc gains 5/5. of the the 1st tier chars, the witch gains the most int+men per lvl, then the siren will gain 7/5 per lvl. sirens have a very high ment req. (125ment) so the witch will be able to turn into a siren faster than a sorc, allowing the char to gain more lvls as a siren, thus having a higher "endgame" int output for the char, great b/c int=magic dmg.
man, re-reading my last two posts i realize how much of a nerd i am to get into this much detail with this game. great game... more fun than real life :/
thanks for this. i like this game a lot. never used withes, they have interesting combos. my 2 favorite are atmosphere and inferno. also like plasma strom and lava flow, havy attack damage as well as disabling the enemy. drakonite spells are sweet too. witches spells were interesting, never seen them in action.
I'm almost sure that the area effect increases, 3-people spell combo are always focused on the center square (which does the most damage) and also hits all the eight squares around it with less damage on the cornres. So it dagames every enemy character. This doesn't happen with 2-people though, like you can see at 0:21, the Dianas didn't took damage. If it was a 3 people spell, everybody would've taken damage.
@sonicblazer520 you can do it, but 2 of the 3 have to be the same element, the resulting spell is just a stronger version of what the 2 would types would have made
really thanks.. i was wondering to make a really good team with witchs and you showed me the spells i forgot, tks xP. now i can poison, paralize , power down, and make them sleep in an only team =D
@Daigotsu Witches actually develop int much better than sorceress, if you get a sorceress and a witch and then later when you get the chance change them to siren, the one who was a witch will have significant damage advantage over the sorceress, and you COULD give a witch a drakonite book, which you can get one as soon as alba though most people hate them, I just think they are a bit overpowered =P
If you were talking about the Ahzi Dahaka (I think that's it's name) earth dragon, my general strategy in beating it is to bring Magnus, a cleric, and 3 flying units. Once you kill the dragoon the only ones who will be getting hit will be Magnus and the cleric which shouldn't put too much pressure onto the clerics ability to keep magnus and said cleric alive.
I wonder if the devs think they made a mistake in creating the Witch class. Having just one is borderline worthless but having two can easily turn the tides in a battle by debilitating most of the enemy. The only thing saving this argument is the fact you can have a few magic users spam annihilation which is basically paying the devs to get lost as nothing survives 3+ casts of it. [I actually made a team that did this and found the game stupidly easy to beat]
One unit I always do is Saradin with White Mute, two Priests for an eventual full party heal, and a Baldr Golem. At high levels, little survives two castings of White Mute and a Baldr Golem, and what does is easily picked off by units that need the exp more.
Thanks to virtual console and this game I got away from WoW ;D Now videogames are really fun again. I wanted to get my hands on this game yet in 2000 but unfortunately it never was released in Germany. Thanks for uploading, great stuff
@hellsoul0 they are good for killing the elemental dragon units that you have to fight to get the pedras, otherwise having all your guys power down/paralyzed/slept twice a round while taking massive damage can be a pain
this video just helped me get my pedra! i had to kill a hard ass dragon and his master and he kept on using earthquake to power me down... i finally figured out i could use a spell like ionosphere to put them to sleep but i couldnt get the casters to cast it! then i googled ogre battle spells and saw ur video and /facepalm for not thinking of using a witch!!!!!
@hellsoul0 In terms of almost every other unit; yeah they are. Useful for, say, promoting soldiers and amazons though. Might get stuck in a fight forever if you didn't have enough damage though.
@Daigotsu Amen sir, I sorely wish they would make another sequel, however I fear we will never see one again. I played the other Ogrebattle titles, but I would love one for one of the current consoles, or hell, even PC.
You just need any two or three units that can cast spells in the same row. The rest of the pre-requisites are in previous comments. Nothing needs to be bought except for perhaps a spellbook to change a spellcasters magic element to make two spells compatible. Any unit can contribute to a combination spell such as archmage, sphinx, ninja masters, etc.
From what I understand, it's not possible to combine 3 different element spells together, it is however possible to have 3 spell users contribute to one combination spell; ie, 2 fire element wizards and 1 earth sorceress. I think I understand your witch question. Yes, depending on the type of witch spell, all it will actually do is screw up one of the enemies attacks if they are afflicted. I don't believe the drakonite spells have an actual element, but it's hard to actually tell.
I don't know if I would go to say that I had some best team because there's a number of ways to get OTK's. Strongest group I can think of right off the top of my head would be 3hitmelee - 3hitmelee - blank nothing Lich - Princess - Lich Even with the most mundane spells everything would likely die before the fight is even half done.
For everyone who wants to play a similar game its called Symphony of War Nephilim Saga. Anytime I search for OB64 i was always recommended games like the tactics games. Which are similar but not exactly what i wanted this game if very similar to OB64. U should try it out.
@VivaceVocaloid I don't really remember what it was called, and I'm not sure where it is on my computer since I just reformatted it. Check out OCRemix.com and search up one of it's authors which is in the video description.
@DB8ed The only spell that I can think of that fits that description is the Ahzi Dahaka's special breath attack. But I'll check sometime and see if there was one that did what you say.
@KingGekko Yeah, poison basically acts like power down, which just like how it sounds lowers the damage of the units affected by it. However, unlike power down, I don't think you can stack poisons effect like power down can. Someone let me know if poison does anything else besides this.
Do you have have tips how to make sorceres or wizard combine thier spell? The ingame tips said need same alignment will make em success, other tips on google said both caster need MEN and INT range not too far. Confused..
The longer two casters fight together in the same unit, the more likely they are to combine spells. Similar alignments help too, of course. And using the "Best" tactic also seems to increase the chance of combined spells in my experience.
Yeah the background has always been annoying. Heck the backgrounds the reason why I didn't even bother playing it on an emulator till about 2 years ago. Still regret that doing that. Making this video was fun because I love the game so much.
I'm afraid so. You can't change a character's element. There are elemental spellbooks that force spellcasters to cast spells of a specific element. Use those to setup a combo.
Very hard to describe the gameplay. Movement is basically people on a board that you order to places. Battles are a bit like Fire Emblem in that the fight just goes on without much input. What the units do is dependant on what their position on a 3x3 grid is when they enter a fight. Then there's the classic unit management. Check out a few videos for a better look.
Ah I'm sorry, my last sentence in my previous replies wasn't suppose to be "...and they're in the same GROUP", I meant to say in the same ROW. Other than that, compatible spells (ex: Fire isn't compatible with water), and a high teamwork they will be able to cast combination spells.
Actually maybe I should have done that. Although this video was more or less just supposed to be just the combination spells. The drakonite spells were just an afterthought really.
@PaulosTheKing You misunderstand. A lot of people make that assumption whenever they read asimpkins guide. What he really means is that venerable dragons and drakonite spells are classified as class "D" magic in that they're spells can affect the entire battlefield, just like how combination spells are class "D" in that they affect the whole battle field. I wish he'd change the wording. So no, venerable dragons and drakonites can't combine with anything.
Poison is basically "Power Down". Personally I've never really used the witches. For me, they basically make it so that an enemy has one less turn to attack. I usually prefer more attack power in the form of a master class. If the witch had a master class I would very likely use it. Maybe you could use two witch's using a combination spell to train soldiers?
when i was playing the game, in the tips from hugo, it said it was possible to combine 3 magic spells, is that really possibe, is it just a more powerful version of a spell or a dif spell in general?
Maybe you guys can help me out. I just finished Dardunelles (Damned Ogres) and am trying to get a chain spell up. One of my sorceresses is Earth, the other is Wind. How can I change their "attribute" so to speak? Is it set in stone?
@juanmmleo Honestly I made a mistake when I said that. I was thinking of the SNES emulator when I said that, my apologies. Though I do wish I had that capability.
Yeah, there really isn't any game that could compare to Ogre Battle's type of gameplay. If there is one then I'd likely have a look at it. lol, if I had to make a top 10 list of my favorite games FF tactics would probably be up there. Although I do agree that there aren't that many good RPG/Turn based strategy games these days, I do enjoy most long RPG games.
Maybe I'll do that during my current play through, although there isn't much that I haven't shown in regards to spells. I might as well do that sometime just because I feel like I want to now >,>
Cool thanks for the info, also, I forget to ask, is there any certain positions there are supposed to be in? Seems like they are always in the same row at least.
This series is such an underappreciated gem
I love having a unit with a Ninja Master in the backrow with two fire-elemental Witches. The three of them will do combination attacks that do massive damage to the entire enemy unit AND stuns them. Also, the Ninja Master will automatically change his alignment to that which will do the most damage to the most enemies. Found it by accident, but it's been a staple of my runs ever since!
I remember the first time I discovered combo spells. I was like,
"Holy shit! What the hell did I just do?"
I hear ya there!
I was like, "yes, I can feel the power. Ooh."
This game is a masterpiece. My favorite strat/rpg of all-time, right in front of FFT, Vandal Hearts 2, and Front Mission 3.
Great video!
One of the best games Ive played. The animation and graphics at the time were so far ahead of its time.
So beautiful|!
They should have had Fire/Water as a Steam based attack, and Earth/Win as a Sandstorm.
16 years later lol. What an amazing game that brings me so much nostalgia. I just replayed it on an iPhone emulator and it was so much fun
Such a dope video, this is my favorite game of all time! Thank you so much for making this now I think I'm gonna have to play through it again :-)
Plasma Storm will always be my favorite. Especially if it's a Triple Plasma Storm. It'll do 300 damage a shot and paralyze what's left.
Seeing the higher ended spells reminded me of the last time I played this game. I think I have 2 parties I actually used to fight and had 3 or 4 others hanging around to follow behind and liberate for them.
I miss this game.
1:41 I have a feeling that should have been Poison Rime...but hey, poison limes are cool too.
Brilliant vid... Thanks so much. Never got far enough in game to see anything like this.
Thanks for making this. One of my favorite game of all time
Dope video, thanks for compiling that. There was quite a few I'd never seen, mostly witch combo spells.
Amusingly, most of the witch combo spells just inflicts poison. Except for the spell 'poison plant' which paralyzes. (& also uses a shroom for the animation, which isn't a plant)
Took to almost 2mins in to realize the music was a fucking fantastic arrangement of "Impregnable Defense" from OB:MotBQ. Awesome!
Can't believe that I never saw all the witch combos owned thi game for years lol thx
@Daigotsu so I did some research on the ones who remix this song and the original version came from March of the Black Queen aka Ogre Battle Snes hah....who knew?!?!?! :D

GREAT!!! SO MANY MEMORIES OF THOUSANDS OF HOURS PLAYING THIS GAME!! AMAZING VIDEO!
Yeah, that's what I usually end up doing as well. 3-4 actual fighters and the rest were various alignment to liberate/capture the places.
Ah, good work! It's nice to see a youtube video with the Dragoon and Princess as part of the battalion. Poison plant was my favorite combination spell by far
Best strategy/RPG IMO, It is available on Wii virtual console. Hell yeah!!!
Nice video
Nice. It could do without the emulation background graphic glitching, but other than that, looks great.

Name from L5R. Loves Ogrebattle 64. Are you me?
Ah, yes. The thrill of finding your first enemy cockatrice... May god be with you...
The history of Ogre Battle is really sad D:
But anyway i like it
thanks for this. i like this game a lot. never used withes, they have interesting combos. my 2 favorite are atmosphere and inferno. also like plasma strom and lava flow, havy attack damage as well as disabling the enemy. drakonite spells are sweet too. witches spells were interesting, never seen them in action.

@Shireke01 Maybe it's a bit sad, but in the good ending the game is really happy... poor Yumil
this is really cool im glad you posted it... one thing you coulda added was the dragons 'spells'
@sonicblazer520 you can do it, but 2 of the 3 have to be the same element, the resulting spell is just a stronger version of what the 2 would types would have made
I had no idea witches had combo spells. I'm going to have to try that. That Ionosphere is dangerous though. That will finish an enemy unit off quick.
my bad, you're right, the video already shows high grade magic
really thanks.. i was wondering to make a really good team with witchs and you showed me the spells i forgot, tks xP. now i can poison, paralize , power down, and make them sleep in an only team =D

there are missing the three-mage spell combo that's even bigger and stronger, but it has the same animation and it's just bigger

@dillpickle526 Unless you get lucky and find it in some garage sale or something akin to it your best bet is on a site like amazon or ebay.
I wonder if the devs think they made a mistake in creating the Witch class. Having just one is borderline worthless but having two can easily turn the tides in a battle by debilitating most of the enemy. To share one of my favorite squad, Cleric(Center), Melee(in front of Cleric), Gremlin(MidLeft), Fierie(MidRight), Wiz/Sor(Center Rear).
Shahrin Shaari how does that work
@hellsoul0 they are good for killing the elemental dragon units that you have to fight to get the pedras, otherwise having all your guys power down/paralyzed/slept twice a round while taking massive damage can be a pain

@AZWification Oh wow, yeah forgot about that, haha.
@Othbarpking
Check out the faqs on gamefaqs for most of the information regarding what you asked. I know right? Talk about a obscure game.
Yeah the background has always been annoying. Heck the backgrounds the reason why I didn't even bother playing it on an emulator till about 2 years ago. Still regret that doing that.

^___^
Actually maybe I should have done that. Although this video was more or less just supposed to be just the combination spells. The drakonite spells were just an afterthought really.
A good video…just kinda wish the audio of the spells was played too. Good music though! :)
lolz I never knew there were any witch combos till I made this video.
@PaulosTheKing
You misunderstand. A lot of people make that assumption whenever they read asimpkins guide. you can also buy one in chapter 7, 8, or 9 at a store, but the price goes up EVERY day that you don't buy it
Magnus can combine his blast attack when promoted?
disgaea 2, you wont be dissapointed, i promise
Very nice vid and song(from ocremix i suppose), congratulations.
Played Disgaea up to 4, definitely a pretty fun game. Feel like I grind too much though.
My, I'm suprised at the number of views on this video. I truthfully only expected a handfull. Thanks for the comments everyone.
Maybe you guys can help me out. I just finished Dardunelles (Damned Ogres) and am trying to get a chain spell up. One of my sorceresses is Earth, the other is Wind. How can I change their "attribute" so to speak? Is it set in stone?
excellent video
OH Memorys... Hihihi
@juanmmleo
Honestly I made a mistake when I said that. I was thinking of the SNES emulator when I said that, my apologies. Though I do wish I had that capability.
Can you also add the same element combinations?Or heck how about all the special moves of all the classes and special characters?
Yeah, there really isn't any game that could compare to Ogre Battle's type of gameplay. If there is one then I'd likely have a look at it.
lol, if I had to make a top 10 list of my favorite games FF tactics would probably be up there.
Although I do agree that there aren't that many good RPG/Turn based strategy games these days, I do enjoy most long RPG games.
i actually didn't see a lot of the combined witch spells since i almost never used witches (kinda useless no) ? cool vid =)
Maybe I'll do that during my current play through, although there isn't much that I haven't shown in regards to spells. I might as well do that sometime just because I feel like I want to now >,>
There's an SNES Ogre Battle game, "Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen", you could try and compare them.
Awesome vid.
i love this game
I finally got em! Thanks
Cool thanks for the info, also, I forget to ask, is there any certain positions there are supposed to be in? Seems like they are always in the same row at least.
your friend cheated, teased, fooled you brilliantly xD.
