    Just wanted to point out that there are TWO hidden treasures in that first map. I always clear the map and go back in with just my leader (no additional troops in the party) after it has been cleared to collect the treasures so I can do it at my leisure and not get charged money (leader is free to deploy).

    I got into the series with Ogre Battle 64, but Ogre Battle has such a warm place in my heart. It's the game that feels like it was made specifically for me, it's all my interests and passions rolled up in one. I hope Tactics Ogre Reborn does well so they could remake more of the Saga (and maybe continue it)!

      @@danielhild9448 It's largely legal nonsense. Like to make a compilation, you'd need to get two mobile game companies, Atlus, whoever made PoZ again, and Square to agree to a deal for a series that's about to have a lot more value, it's a hard thing to get together. I have this game and use to play it on the SNES when I was a kid back in the day. Ogre Battle is definitely an underrated GEM for sure, I went nuts when it returned for the N64. I loved that game to death but the hardest Ogre game of the series is Tactics for the PS1. I loved Final Fantasy Tactics when it released and I was starving for a new Tactics game since that genre was something I never experienced before, thats when I found out in Playstation Magazine that Ogre Tactics was coming to the PS1. I was in 6th grade when it released on the PS1 console and my dad bought it for me on launch day. The hardest game I've ever played and never finished it. I quit the game because of how brutal it is and the Ogre series in general is just flat out brutal XD

Thanks for posting! Just getting back into the whole series again very slowly and wanted to start at the beginning. Money was a problem in this game until I found this trick. On the very first map (start of game) destroy all troops and conquer all but the last city in the NW sector. Then just let the game run. I would do this and go to bed and then go to work the next morning. The game ran all night and day. When I got home and it was ready to play and I had a ton of money.

    • @CoffeePotato

    • @Dhalin
      @Dhalin 3 месяца назад +1

      Highly recommend against doing this. It will tank you reputation to 0 at the beginning of the game when you should be looking to increase it (unless it doesn't fall on that first map? I don't recall. Either way, you get a one-time dose of money). Instead of doing that, you can do something else even more effective, but yet still maintain full reputation throughout the game: At the end of each map, that is, after you kill all the enemy units so that only the boss is left alive, bring all of your units back to the base, then use your opinion leader's unit to liberate everything and then wait for tributes. Watch the reputation meter; until you get the reputation meter full, only wait for tributes until you see a 1 pixel drop and then kill the boss. Once you have the rep meter full, go ahead and wait for 2 one-pixel drops and then kill the boss. Quite likely, your rep meter will be full after the boss and you can proceed as normal. Doing this will net you more money than you could ever hope to spend, and that's with spending 100-300 joker items each map during the later maps and still having enough money to fully max out the opinion leader's stats if you find a travelling merchant item that lets you buy the stat buff potions _and still having some left over after that._

  • @fagarou
    @fagarou 2 года назад +8

    As someone that replayed the game all the way up to the best endings last year, my usual team comp was to have one or two absolute killers capable of destroying anything, a low level - high alignment knight backed by a grypon for quick towns liberation (there's so many in the endgame...) and a couple of situational defense line protectors. Except for the town liberating unit, I stopped using gryphon quickly and instead use hawkmen for low sky movement. It's technically slower but I was still quick enough to box the enemies and move forward after each waves defeated. With being able to redo any map, I found that you can manipulate alignment pretty easily by redoing those with undead random encounter. Dont know how the other versions work, but I agree that item are busted: in the SNES version potions cost next to nothing and when you get the battle start notification you can quickly hit pause to heal everyone before it start.

    Just to clarify; your comments about the resurrections of dead characters is not quite accurate. While it is true that "eventually" you will get to a point where using the 'Revive' item at 2000 goth is cheaper for resurrecting dead characters.....that won't be true for new players in the first few stages. The reason is that in the early game the cost at a Roshian Temple for resurrecting a dead character is proportional to the deployment cost of that character; and that value only gradually increases as the level of the character increases. So for about 4 or 5 stages (let's say perhaps the first 9 hours of the game) it is considerably cheaper to resurrect a dead character at a Roshian Temple. Then, as your characters rise in level, yes, the Revive item never changing from 2000 goth will make it the preferred option until the end of the game.

    Fighting Warren at night is dangerous and the amount of cheese available in this game is extensive. Would love to see this dropped as a remaster. I like to setup my parties with two blaster units, two fast units, and one super lawful unit. Depending on ending I'm aiming after depends on which of these my OL is in. The two blaster units alternate tanking wave after wave of enemies, the fast units either go pick up loot, neutrals, or pick off retreating units so they don't respawn, and my lawful gets all the towns at the end to boost rep up, sometimes waiting until I hit certain points in the story to go back to old maps to get them all quickly for lots of rep.

      @kaiseravm Although in my experience, the reputation does not start going down on an active map until 3 days after any enemy unit was active on the field. If it takes you 5 game days of enemy units actively roaming around trying to find you and kill you....your reputation will not be going down yet. It's when you beat down enemy units far enough that either there is only the boss left, or only some units not willing to leave the boss castle to come find you.....that the timer for the 3 days seems to begin. That prevents you from just sitting around infinitely farming daily taxes from the cities you have liberated without having negative consequences. However, I still find it worthwhile to farm those daily taxes for the 3 days before I finish off a boss because that provides ample funds to pursue the next maps......and this is regardless of whether you are trying for the high alignment high reputation ending or the low alignment high reputation ending, or otherwise.

      @@CoffeePotato As far as the info on items and weapons/armor, all of the info was provided on a couple of large inserts alongside the manual that originally came with the SNES version. The downside is that the SNES version had a low print run to begin with and is expensive as it is loose, but the manual along with the inserts are particularly hard to come by nowadays. I'm fortunate enough to own them, thank goodness. It's a godsend for playing the SNES version (which I am doing now on my Dreamcast on bootleg discs, for convenience). Even though I have owned the PS1 version for quite a while, I haven't played that version yet.

    Just started the game. Not sure how I feel about dying to the first fight. We all missed and then he two-shot me and I lost. The second time I was one hit away from dying. Really sets a bad tone when there's no strategy involved and the very first fight of the game is completely rng. Then on the third map I had an enemy unit fly to my base so I deployed a unit of my own to defend it, we won the battle although the enemy survived, and after the fight WE got kicked off the base the and he took it and I lost like 10 minutes of progress.

    I just started playing the Sega Saturn version that i just recently found out exists. graphics and audio are better than the PS1 version. the only thing i wish it had was the waypoint method of movement. Saturn version has 5 new maps apparently. that's what i'm going for. Played this game dozens of times start to finish. Really excited to see what the new maps are like.
    When in doubt, healer and mage in back, 3 melee in the front is a solid setup.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  2 года назад

      Yup, it's got new maps, but the PS1 version still has more QoL stuff, which makes it all the stranger that 3 teams made versions of this game and never once talked to each other. Like Saturn and PS1 both do different overhead maps...but differently.

    Just to save you some time... weakening a neutral creature will not improve your odds of recruiting it. Your unit leader's Charisma and compatibility value are the stats that will affect success on your side.
    Running away lowers Charisma, not Alignment. Otherwise it would be really easy to meet low Alignment class prerequisites!
