    Just wanted to point out that there are TWO hidden treasures in that first map. I always clear the map and go back in with just my leader (no additional troops in the party) after it has been cleared to collect the treasures so I can do it at my leisure and not get charged money (leader is free to deploy).

    I have this game and use to play it on the SNES when I was a kid back in the day. Ogre Battle is definitely an underrated GEM for sure, I went nuts when it returned for the N64. I loved that game to death but the hardest Ogre game of the series is Tactics for the PS1. I loved Final Fantasy Tactics when it released and I was starving for a new Tactics game since that genre was something I never experienced before, thats when I found out in Playstation Magazine that Ogre Tactics was coming to the PS1. I was in 6th grade when it released on the PS1 console and my dad bought it for me on launch day. The hardest game I've ever played and never finished it. I quit the game because of how brutal it is and the Ogre series in general is just flat out brutal XD

    Money was a problem in this game until I found this trick. On the very first map (start of game) destroy all troops and conquer all but the last city in the NW sector. Then just let the game run. I would do this and go to bed and then go to work the next morning. The game ran all night and day. When I got home and it was ready to play and I had a ton of money.

    As someone that replayed the game all the way up to the best endings last year, my usual team comp was to have one or two absolute killers capable of destroying anything, a low level - high alignment knight backed by a grypon for quick towns liberation (there's so many in the endgame...) and a couple of situational defense line protectors. Except for the town liberating unit, I stopped using gryphon quickly and instead use hawkmen for low sky movement. It's technically slower but I was still quick enough to box the enemies and move forward after each waves defeated. With being able to redo any map, I found that you can manipulate alignment pretty easily by redoing those with undead random encounter. Dont know how the other versions work, but I agree that item are busted: in the SNES version potions cost next to nothing and when you get the battle start notification you can quickly hit pause to heal everyone before it start.

    Fighting Warren at night is dangerous and the amount of cheese available in this game is extensive. Would love to see this dropped as a remaster. I like to setup my parties with two blaster units, two fast units, and one super lawful unit. Depending on ending I'm aiming after depends on which of these my OL is in. The two blaster units alternate tanking wave after wave of enemies, the fast units either go pick up loot, neutrals, or pick off retreating units so they don't respawn, and my lawful gets all the towns at the end to boost rep up, sometimes waiting until I hit certain points in the story to go back to old maps to get them all quickly for lots of rep.

If it takes you 5 game days of enemy units actively roaming around trying to find you and kill you....your reputation will not be going down yet. It's when you beat down enemy units far enough that either there is only the boss left, or only some units not willing to leave the boss castle to come find you.....that the timer for the 3 days seems to begin. That prevents you from just sitting around infinitely farming daily taxes from the cities you have liberated without having negative consequences. However, I still find it worthwhile to farm those daily taxes for the 3 days before I finish off a boss because that provides ample funds to pursue the next maps......and this is regardless of whether you are trying for the high alignment high reputation ending or the low alignment high reputation ending, or otherwise.

    You can save/load to force the game to output favorable cards and items.
    Before you discover treasure, save the game and load it if you get a bad item. The game will spawn new items. You can get items like Notos and Ogre Blade on the first stage.
    Temples also have a chance of giving you an item. They aren't as randomized as the treasures, but they can give you an item after you choose to keep or discard the tarot card you pulled.
    Finally, and this is the biggest cheat in the game, you can manipulate tarot card pulls from liberation through saving and loading. If you deploy all your units and start liberating towns, you want to save/load until you pull the world card on your first turn. This causes status changing tarot cards to affect all deployed units. You can then liberate towns and load the game until you get +int +str or +hp cards as these are the best for raw battles.
    I know people will consider this cheating--and it is. However, the stages in ogre battle can take up to 3 hours and that just seems too long for me. In fact, I prefer the smaller stages where I'm only using a few units. I find the larger stages to be a little too cumbersome and would rather get them over with in around 40 minutes.

    • @laertesindeed
      @laertesindeed Год назад

      Perhaps you are referring to some console port years later; but the original SNES release of this game does not allow you to save in the middle of any battle. You have to clear a stage to save. By all means, you could decline to find treasures in the SNES and then try the save-scumming technique while revisiting a cleared map for those treasures......but in all practicality that seems like a waste of time.

  • @laertesindeed
    @laertesindeed Год назад +4

    Just to clarify; your comments about the resurrections of dead characters is not quite accurate. While it is true that "eventually" you will get to a point where using the 'Revive' item at 2000 goth is cheaper for resurrecting dead characters.....that won't be true for new players in the first few stages. The reason is that in the early game the cost at a Roshian Temple for resurrecting a dead character is proportional to the deployment cost of that character; and that value only gradually increases as the level of the character increases. So for about 4 or 5 stages (let's say perhaps the first 9 hours of the game) it is considerably cheaper to resurrect a dead character at a Roshian Temple. Then, as your characters rise in level, yes, the Revive item never changing from 2000 goth will make it the preferred option until the end of the game.

Really sets a bad tone when there's no strategy involved and the very first fight of the game is completely rng. Then on the third map I had an enemy unit fly to my base so I deployed a unit of my own to defend it, we won the battle although the enemy survived, and after the fight WE got kicked off the base the and he took it and I lost like 10 minutes of progress.

    ...As a new player myself, I can't consider this a good guide at all, tbh. Having already read the information available on GameFAQs and the Ogre Battle Wiki, it seems as though there's a noticeable amount of misinformation in your guide, and while 'never looked up the mechanics because not knowing is more fun' explains it, I can't really say it excuses it, either? Like... sure, you don't like to minmax, that's fine. But... that's really not a good reason to allow misinformation to spread, especially in a guide designed to help new players?
