Agree, like the 35mm (70 mm FF) perspective in MFT. I have been using the TTartisan 35mm f/1.4 ($73 USD) on my Pen-F for a while - it has great bokeh at < f/4, super sharp at f/8, and a clicked aperture ring!

this lens is definitely the best of their firefly series, at least from what i've seen so far. i've really been enjoying the 35 and totally agree that you must use magnification to ensure focus when wide open. you definitely got your copy for a steal as i've never seen it under around 250usd.

YOU'RE A DANGEROUS MAN ROBIN!!! So often when I watch your equipment reviews, my bank account takes a hit!! I think this lens is a good example of that. Gotta go get it!!! Looks very cool!!! That shallow depth of field is sooooo awesome!!! It reminds me of the old days of the Minolta SRT101 with a 1.2 lens.......

_@Robin Wong_ -- The size and weight of the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95 is not solely because of its large aperture. It's my understanding that the lens was originally designed for an APS-C image sensor which is a little larger than the 4/3 image sensor. Hence, the lens must be a little larger to cast the appropriate image circle inside the camera body. And it contributes to it being a bit softer on m4/3 (because less of the lens image circle is used by the m4/3 sensor). That's why you'll see this 7Artisans lens with different mounts, marketed for other camera systems.
As for this lens being the only choice between 25 and 45mm, that is not true. There is another prime in this focal range, the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN lens for m4/3 and _it has auto focus._ At US$264 on Amazon, it's about triple the cost of the 7Artisans but this is still a relatively low price for what you get. Plus the Sigma is weathersealed. However, I'm not sure about its image quality and bokeh -- my guess is that it's better than 7Artisans, but not as good as Olympus. If you ever have a chance to try it, I'd be excited to see what you think.
Sigma makes two more autofocusing lenses for m4/3 in the same series: a 56mm f1.4 and a 16mm f1.4. I've seen all three lenses bundled by some sellers and I've heard very good things about the 56mm lens (that it's quite sharp), but I doubt that it is as sharp as the the king Olympus 75mm f1.8 prime. And I also doubt that the Sigmas can compete with any of the Olympus primes regarding chromatic aberrations.
_Note:_ Like the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95, all three of the Sigma lenses were originally designed for an APS-C image sensor, too. Which is why they are also sold for the Sony E-mount and the Canon EOS EF-M (but they are not interchangeable with m4/3 -- you must buy the lens with the correct mount for your camera). What this means is that each of these lenses are a little larger and heavier than required for the smaller 4/3 image sensor. The image circle they cast into the camera will be a little larger than needed and will make them a little softer on m4/3 than they are on the APS-C bodies. It's too bad that 7Artisans and Sigma didn't design them specifically for m4/3 -- but I can understand their reasoning.

Most of my lenses are manual, and for me the magnify really does help a lot more those manual focus lenses. Originally when I started with Olympus digital bodies, I used peaking, but whenever I zoomed in, it would never be in focus the way I liked. With magnify I have a much easier time. I found it so much better, especially with the really wide lenses with a lot of depth of field. Usually I set it so that when I push a button it gets me to Magnify, then when I tap the shutter button halfway it brings me back to the regular view so I can compose. On my body I found it under D. Disp -> LV close up Mode 1. I have the touchscreen mode set to the tap to place AF target. That way when I can tap the part I want to magnify to place my focusing point then magnify that spot to focus

I’ve just got it … I agree you need to stop it down to 1.2 or 1.4 … my problem is shooting moving people in the evening without flash …. this lens might help me rack up the speed to 1/160 freezing motion…. that might balance the lack of sharpness when wide open …. we shall see how it works out!

Good evening Robin, thank you for the demonstration. For my part if I want to use a bright lens I use my 50 mm F1.4 canon with a Viltrox 0.71x adapter, this gives a 36mm F1.0 and in addition I have the autofocus which works well! (sorry for the translation because I use google translator) wish you a pleasant evening and my cordial greetings.

Great, factual and concrete review! Personally, I do not have this lens, but I have several TTartisan lenses. I know that they order optics from the same manufacturer as 7artisans. They may not be optically perfect lenses, but at this price it is a misunderstanding to expect super quality. But these inconspicuous lenses offer a lot of great fun, surprising effects in the photos remind me of such a sleepy, oneiric atmosphere. What's more, working with manual lenses teaches you to think about the frame, teaches composition, teaches you to think about light, etc. I also have the impression that it forms a kind of stronger bond between the photographer and the photographed person or other object .. by the way, I recommend the TTartisan 35 mm f / 1.4 lens. For me, it is an ideal when it comes to the ratio of quality and price.

I had one and sold already. As it is manual lens it should have some advantage over F 1.2 or 1.4, or even 1.7 lens with AF. It has in terms of shallow DOF, but - as Robin pointed out - wide open the lens is soft. As DOF is very shallow, you must be right in focus if want to have sharp image. What is more in in sunny light, lacks contrast. As for me - unusable, as it is no point to have shallow DOF with soft image. I guess sigma 30mm 1.4 can do better.

The UK price from the official importer is £249, so about the same, but it seems you can order them direct from China for a lot less.
I don't believe it's worth anywhere near the official importer prices given the downsides - no click stops, chromatic aberration, image quality at maximum aperture.

How do I put the wide AF frame to photograph a married couple in close proximity on my Pen-f? To create a minimum of bokeh I could save the function of the f-grid and move each time from the center bringing to the side of the frame positioned on the face of the person but it would be more immediate to have a larger Af frame already set.
