This book really is excellent. Everyone wanting to get into the EDAs should start here, for its fleshing out of the regulars, compelling and nuanced side characters and interesting take on the vampire mythos.

It makes me want to go and read through the EDA's, I have a bunch of them, but I'm missing many... like this one 😅

I really enjoyed your editing in this one, the shot of kidnapped Peter Davidson gave me a proper laugh. The characterisation is brilliant in this book. I love everything Kate Orman ever wrote. Unfortunately my recollection of the early EDAs (those memories are many years old at this point so I might be wrong) is that Vampire Science is the last bit of consistent characterisation for Eight or Sam for a while, maybe until the next Orman and Blum entry actually. It'll be interesting to see how you travel, I'm so glad you're doing this project on the channel :P
Thanks! Yeah I heard that was somewhat the case for 8 and Sam sadly. I heard good things about Genocide and of course, Alien Bodies but that seems to mostly be it. I'll try and keep an open mind going forward tho.
@@thevacuumofcomments2946 I always forget Alien Bodies is so early on in the EDAs, that's one I've come back to again and again. I barely remember Genocide though!
This is one of my favourite Doctor Who books! This was a fun watch. That moment with 8 and Caroline you bring up, that's really stuck with me since I first read the book as well. It's a really endearing characterisation. I love talk about Buffy/Who connections as well, especially now we're drifting further and further in time away from those days.
You have excellent taste in Dw books! And thank you very much! It is interesting how Buffy's influence is already being felt as early as here, tho cause these came out at a similar time I do wonder if a slightly earlier bit of vampire fiction maybe inspired the stuff we see in both of these? Nevertheless, I'm glad I watched the first two seasons of Buffy before I got to this!

Fantastic video! Vampire Science is my favorite Doctor Who story ever and you covered it fantastically! My favorite bit of the story is how for the first half, it uses the different perspectives of Sam, Caroline, and Kramer to focus on how different their views of the Doctor. And how none of them are wrong! They just have only seen small pieces of each doctor!
I also loved your point about what makes 8 special is his love of the domestic! He views every part of the universe with an equal level of excitement!
It's a good sign for any character when different in-universe personal perspectives on them are all true. I love how authentic 8 is! But he can be scary not in spite of what he is, but almost because of it.
