    I didn't get on well with Vicki. Nor Dodo. They were of the same personality. They were just.. there. To fit a gap of "youngster" without any rebellion. I hated how Ian & Barbara were side-tracked, often coupled as a double act, just so Vicki could have the Doctor protect her. I found her annoying, & she really couldn't act to save England. That stupid laugh she gives in the Chase as Ian pulls out the ring from the ground... grrrr... lol Each to their own though.

    Really enjoyed the video, but I would like to mount something of a defence for Linx as a villain. I agree that the robot he constructs is pretty rubbish. But to be fair, there are loads of rubbish robots in Doctor Who. The difference is that the rubbish robots are usually quite cute so the audience cuts them some slack (chumbilees, war machines, quarks). The gaps in his plan aren't that much worse than the plotting by the Cybermen in Wheel in Space, or the Daleks in the Dalek Invasion of Earth. I see Invasion of Time as a tragedy, rather than a farce. It lowered the standard for Sontarans and Time Lords alike, gave Leela a rubbish companion exit and Gallifrey lost a lot of it's mysticism (though this was not the only serial to do such damage). Maybe there's a parallel universe where Invasion of Time was made properly; the Time Lords were still at the height of their pomp; the Sontarans invaded and successfully mounted a convincing challenge; the Vardans were a bit more convincing, but were dispatched by the end of episode 2; Leela sacrifices herself in the final struggle and we get an effective companion departure (this was how Louise Jameson wanted Leela to exit the show); and instead of running round and round the Tardis, perhaps the Sontarans could pursue the Doctor in the Matrix and we could get something more akin to the deadly assassin? Maybe some die hard fan with good writing skills is working on an utterly unauthorised piece of fan fiction that will elevate the original material? Maybe... maybe...

    The biggest tragedy is that DW does HOMAGE BRILLIANTLY in it's good eras when everybody knows what they're doing (Robert Holmes stories always a good example). Here the influences are ruined and wasted - even the in jokes don't work (not just about Mel/Bonnie's weight but also the colours and archetypes of the Kangs are the main political parties). You could have more fun and get the same gist reading High Rise by JG Ballard whilst zapping between Question Time and Runaway (the Tom Selleck SF(ish) film which I presume was the inspiration for the robots and almost shows how good a Hollywood version of Wyatt's script would be in the right hands).

    Tooth and Claw's what turned me off 10 and Rose. They gave off a kind of popular kids in-joke, we know something you don't know, arrogant, exclusionary type vibe that irked me. That and the portion of the fandom that were shipping them hard. Call me a prude, but I like my Doctor-companion relationship to be a platonic one. Having said all that, I certainly don't HATE 10&Rose.

    I do like that the show acknowledges their romance is flawed from the start: - Ten explains to her in School Reunion that they can never be together forever even if they wanted to because she's a 20 year old human and he's a quasi-immortal alien, and that is the curse he has to live with - In The Impossible Planet we see that unlike Rose, Ten can't stand a domestic life so they can't settle down - Tooth and Claw shows that Rose is starting to adapt some of Ten's fascinations with danger, seeing it as excitement instead, which puts her at constant risk with him - Doomsday has Rose so scared that she's desperate to stay with him forever, and in that rush to be there with him they got separated for good

    I loved Rose and 10 together. I agree seeing them in a state of grace it made the finale all the more painful. That being said, the way their relationship was written has issues and wasn't perfect like rose and 9. 10 clearly had massive comittment and emotional availability issues, and it seemed like in School renunion that was going to be his arc. Then what did he do in the season finale, he sent rose away without as much as a goodbye and got angry when she said she was never going to leave him. Rose had her problems too. She seemingly was losing touch with her humanity and becoming too much like the doctor, picking up his bad traits. She was arguably losing herself in the relationship. This was mentioned but it never led to any consequences.

    While I will admit that my opinion on the series as a whole probably shapes my view of this relationship (the series is bad) I do have reasons to dislike this relationship that isn't what you listed. I think the writing of both Ten and Rose are just terrible in this series and it gets worse when they are together. I really like Rose's character in Series 1, but she feels like a worse written character in Series 2, she's somehow less mature than she was in the first series and acts kind of dumb at times. When they're together it feels like the worst qualities of them are on full display, and I get that that's kind of the point but it just makes me really annoyed with both characters, especially Rose.

The Power of Three would be a decent experiment Ep if it wasn’t for the ending . The Angels take Manhattan is dull bar the ending . The Snowmen is dull as hell . The Bells of Saint John is…boring . The Rings of Akhaten should be okay is somehow always boring to watch (bar the speech) . Cold War is a good monster runaround . Hide is fine, but could’ve been scarier . Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS is really crap . The Crimson Horror is a story I like but most people don’t . Nightmare in Silver is the definition of death by a thousand paper cuts . The Name of the Doctor…Doesn’t even have an ending… Yeah, pretty bad series

    With a lot of the really hated stuff from the show (with the exception of the Chibnall era) I always found it more weak than anything, not these terrible mistakes. Yeah some stuff sucked and I knew that, but I was surprised at how much people really hated this stuff because I always found it really interesting. Got let down a couple times and never saw it as perfect, but people turned out to be super critical of all that stuff once I got into the online discourse. Like, I liked Kill The Moon and people despise it. I thought it was a very interesting episode with a convoluted ending. But people fucking hate it and I didn’t get that until I went online. That was the same with a lot of stuff really, stuff I found mildly to pretty dissapointing speedbumps in a fun show turned out to be stuff the fandom really trashed and maybe that’s because they were thinking more critical of it than me (That’s it) but I always found it interesting. Because while I found 7B kinda weak I never hated it like everyone else seemed to. TLDR; Fans hate stuff better than casual fans.

    I used to think I hated 10, however in hindsight I realised my problem was more the fan/BTS overreaction to him, the whole "Tennant or nothing" mindset which is why I find him so overrated. It's a similar issue that 70s Who, being the most popular often leads to a degree of superiority which makes me less inclined to like these eras, especially I'm someone who routes for underdogs.

    For me it wasn't that they were static-y (I didn't like it but I can understand how they got there in their arcs). I found that they'd become rather arrogant and unlikeable in their adventures, so full of themselves. But unlike Twelve and Clara, the narrative doesn't call this out and frames them as being just so cute together. And even if this was the point to set up "Doomsday", it doesn't mean I have to like it.

    I think Ten and Rose exacerbate each other's worst impulses, while Nine and Rose acted as a brake to each other's worst impulses. Ten also was quite reckless with Rose, pretty much abandoning her for Reinette an episode after her confidence in their relationship was shaken by their meeting Sarah Jane and also one episode after he had all but promised he would never abandon her, not her. We see Rose take the Reinette situation pretty well, but we also see her becoming more jealous; when they are on the parallel Earth, she is bothered that he knows the name of a server he's gotten information from -- while they are undercover as servers to, um, get information. In the last episode of the season/series, he plans to send her off to the parallel Earth and seems perfectly unbothered with it. It's only a problem for him because she comes back, refusing it, and then is lost accidentally. But it's exactly what he planned for her anyway. I'm fine with a happy couple or a prickly couple -- that doesn't matter to me. I do prefer Nine and Rose, and Martha and Ten, to Ten and Rose, but that doesn't mean this wasn't an interesting trajectory.

    • @jeremymcginge9768
      @jeremymcginge9768 2 месяца назад

      No When did he abandon her for anyone? The reinette situation was completely different to how you describe it, it wasn't the doctor abandoning Rose and it had absolutely nothing to do with Rose and Sarah being jealous with each other especially because they weren't by the end of it (you did watch it right? Seems like you didn't hahaha). If wasn't a parrellel world as it wasn't a world running parrellel to theirs, it was simply 2 points in and time that were connected with each other but not parrellel lol. At one point he literally got STUCK in that time with no way of returning due to the connection being broken however the second he found a way back he didn't hesitate... Yet he abandoned her? I don't think so. Plus Martha and 10 wasn't even close to being better than Rose and 10 🤣😂. I'll be honest I loved all seasons from 1-9 but 3 was not better than 2 lol. Plus that season finale... As a true fan that has me in tears every time, season 3 doesn't get that neither does season 4 tbh.

    I'm among those who will defend Ten and Rose, in fact, aside from Ten and Donna, Ten and Rose were my personal favorite TARDIS pairing of RTD's early era. I thought the two were adorable together...... then again it could be just my personal bias from watching the MLP parody fan audios featuring Doctor Whooves and Derpy (Which is what MLP's version of said paring was, and later became Canon in MLP). MLP, specifically all of the Doctor Who parodies and fan art, is what got me into Doctor Who ;).

    The Doctor in Classic Who would never flirt with people and certainly not someone who’s much lower down in the evolutionary scale. I can’t stand the 10th Doctor as he’s too OTT and that so called cockney accent is so annoying. Christopher Eccleston was a much better actor and my favourite Peter Capaldi is channeling the Classic vibe by making the Doctor more aloof, unpredictable and alien. Now that RTD is back the Doctor is yet again more humanised and flirtatious and it’s awful and drags the show down to a more soap opera level.

    • @Timelord6661
      @Timelord6661 2 месяца назад

      It's not about evolution it's about power dynamics from age and life experience, the Doctor regardless to face isn't a human and if they're also old enough to be a grandfather in the 60's then they should definitely be mature enough to know what he was doing with Rose was wrong, the issue is every Doctors classic and those succeeding would be the adult in the room when this happens and not enable. Only time this somewhat happened with Clara but that came from the alien nature of that character and is framed as being something wrong the Doctor believed (Deep Breath addresses it as such). While 9 and 10 enabled it, classic Doctors and future ones would include the Mickey character not compete with her affections and punch down at him. It's an equivalent to a teacher dating their student and competing with her of age equivalent boyfriend. We know in our world that it isn't right because of the fucked up power dynamics. Classic and to some extent new Who Doctor's after it took seriously a duty of care to his companions that was more like the dynamic of a teacher student than lovers. This is actually a wise move and something even Ten's succeeding Doctors didn't do. This is important as a large part of the fandom has deified the era so much that they see succeeding Doctors break this mold and not make the same mistakes and they were the ones labelled out of character when in reality it's the other way around. Only RTD Doctor's openly flirt with young woman companions a fraction of their age and species differences with the clear intent of engaging in a romantic relationship. Even in 11s era it's more Amy's childhood trauma that results in her coming onto him. With Clara it's more a codependency than a romance by the end. He rightfully doesn't reject and actually includes Rory to build him up. And when 12 clashes with Danny later on its to do with ideological differences not love triangle tension. The scrapped plot line in the writers tale made it clear the gralgorithymunfriendlywordming aspect was intentional and a story planned to explain it outright was scrapped (although traits still exist in certain episodes) issue is Rose is a very flawed and traumatised teenage girl that makes so many mistakes that get ignored the following episode because the doctor and lead writer tell you she's the best when it's only because she falls for trauma dumping. The Doctor should show responsibility and set boundaries. If we focus on the evolutionary aspect entirely it misses the point. It's wrong for the same reasons relationships with extremely wide age gaps and species differences in lifespan even if consensual can be toxic and harmful. They lampshade this but then romanticise it in story that is messed up, to say the least. It's actually unethical and not exemplary of the kind of values a character like the Doctor should have. Which would be fine if that was the point but the framing is if we should root for it and it's some catastrophic game changer when it they are seperating when in reality the framing should be around how he got it wrong and he failed to set healthy boundaries. This is excused by apologists who dismiss these concerned but all of a sudden get the ick when 11 says one out of character line, it's hypcritical to these valid ethical concerns but frankly. Time War angst + trauma dump = Rose's families abandonment. All I'm gonna say is I used to hate Jackie Tyler but actually she's the victim of her daugthers selfish choices. Same for Mickey.

      @@najawin8348 We’re talking about beastiality if he’s into those of the lower order and if alien then interspecies. Once it was established in Classical Who that the Doctor isn’t physically like a human then they went for the more A sexual acting character which I think fitted the show better as it meant the Doctor was a mysterious figure and soap opera elements were confined more to the companions. Having said that Classic Who wasn’t too concerned with soap elements and just telling a good adventure story. RTD seems to want to write soap fantasy.

No they're not as they're not remotely related and therefore not on the same evolutionary scale. Humans and time lords are the same, they're a completely different species lol. 1 is more advanced and a much older civilization but that's all. Also you're wrong anyway, there's absolutely nothing wrong with him liking her or her liking him. People fall for each other and ten may be over 900 but he doesn't look or act like it. I mean that's like saying no one from the originals can like a human as they are 1000s of years old... So? (Different show obviously)

    I think the Ten/Rose dynamic hinted at in The Impossible Planet is really interesting: he does love her in his own way, but not the way she wants him to. Of course, Doomsday completely undermines that interpretation, and Journey’s End….no.

    • @HuntingViolets
      @HuntingViolets 2 месяца назад

      Yet in "Doomsday," he plans to send her to the parallel world; it is only because she comes back that he has whatever complicated feelings he has about losing her, and perhaps a lot of that is guilt. Lately I am starting to lean towards the interpretation that he didn't love her the way she wanted or no longer did or didn't by "Journey's End." I think that's a plausible interpretation, but I didn't realize it until other people said they didn't think so and didn't think he felt that way about Reinette (whose safety he seemed to choose over Rose's), which are ideas I'm not sure I fully considered before.

    I think the bigger issue isn’t they get along too well or too cutie, but the Doctor 900 year old person here is in love with a teenage girl. I’m not against the Doctor finding love or being with someone younger (kind of to in most cases) but that Rose barely out of high school. That’s taking it too far. 😵‍💫

      True, but people, at least to me, seem to have an issue specifically with 10 and Rose, rather than 9 and Rose which obviously has the same issue. For the record, I think the show is aware of this disparity. S1 addresses it more tho which might make the difference

    • @HuntingViolets

      @@thevacuumofcomments2946 I think the Doctor, if he/she/thon wants a romance, definitely in most cases will be stuck with a human and someone so much younger. I think RTD was slow burning Nine and Rose (although he could have made her older to start with -- Piper wasn't 19), whereas Ten and Rose had a thing, at least in some episodes, kind of like _The Avengers_ (not Marvel), where Steed and Mrs. Peel were more are-they-or-aren't-they than will-they-or-won't-they.

    I think a further distinction between 1/2 and 8/9 is that 12 and Clara are, throughout S9, thorny, difficult people. Even if they aren't constantly at odds with each other, they're still deeply uncomfortable with the world around them, often to the point of outright hostility. This isn't _really_ the case in S2, 10 and Rose are, well, happy. Are they always perfectly content? No, of course not. But their default state of being is a sort of satisfaction and a love for life that you just don't see with 12Clara, or with 9Rose. Now, this raises the question, why do people dislike this? Is it because people dislike seeing others as happy in their default state? I mean, we're Doctor Who fans, it stands to reason that jealousy here would be plausible. Or a lack of dramatic stakes - even as conflict is made external in both, there's just less opportunity for characterization when one is happy by default? Maybe. I dunno. A third option, and one I think that's plausible here as well, is that it rings hollow. 9 and Rose weren't happy people. Rose wasn't happy with her life. 9 certainly wasn't. So it just seems cheap and implausible that all of a sudden the two of them are happy, content, when they're together. That's not how things work. You don't magically become happy when you're with someone. So it just feels fake in a way that S8/9 doesn't.

    • @thevacuumofcomments2946
      @thevacuumofcomments2946 2 месяца назад

      From personal experience, you do become happy for a short while after meeting someone and that can even last for a while. But of course it ultimately ends, because the relationship becomes the baseline. Even though it's called the honeymoon period, it can last for a while before that happens, so one series feels like an appropriate amount of time before old problems reappear

    I really dislike Tennant. I never liked 10. Rose is okey. For me Rose is just a normal young adult confused with her feelings and sparkles in her eyes. 10 is just an arsehole. Like constantly... The worst is that I loved loved loved Eccleston. I have ptsd. I find him so relatable. But not only that. He is an excellent actor. Tennant... Blegh! 🤢

      Strong agree. Tennant isn’t necessarily a bad actor, but the choice to play Ten as Timmy Mallett as newly realised Lothario is... interesting. As a meta commentary on the previously geeky show suddenly becoming "sexy", it works but as a viewing experience it's not much of a step up from wacaday

      I think part of it is that the wider public treats 10 as like a bog standard default doctor template when he's actually one of the weirdest doctors when compared to the rest. If the doctor looked back on their life I would argue they would despise the 10th incarnation. This is very intentional btw, it's a fascinating choice to have 10 grow further from the doctor across his run and even if 10 is my least favourite out of 9-12 I like that they did it. It let us have waters of mars which is one of the best episodes of the revival.

      He used to be my favorite Doctor (mostly because I grew up with his era), but the more time passes the more he starts getting surpassed. His acting is genuinely great, I just don't really like that take of the character anymore. Of the modern Doctors, Capaldi's and Eccleston's are head and shoulders above it. Though growing up I could finally see why Tom Baker is the true undisputed GOAT.

      For me the show itself has hurt David’s regenerations cause at this point he is 4 version of the doctor himself he ends up being 2 regenerations by the end of the 4th season then we have the meta crisis doctor that happens to have the face of David then we have 14 that was also the face of David but not only that it’s like in the merchandise it’s like let’s just put David’s face on it like the new game that’s coming out the picture posted had an animated version of David as the doctor in it this doesn’t mean david tennant is a bad actor by any means cause he isn’t it’s just the show won’t give us time away from him cause he returned doing the moffat era cause he happened to have the 50th anniversary special during his time as showrunner and David got brought back for that and during the times he wasn’t actively on the show they would still produce merchandise with his face on it and they would still call on him to do things like the muppets stage show I have found clips of with him
