😂 I passed up SEVERAL Kirby Cap Victory pages in the 90s at SDCC because they were "too expensive", i.e. $150 each. Ugh.

I scored a copy of Captain Victory 1 signed by Jack out of a dollar bin about 5 years ago. I had CBCS slab and they verifed the signature, which seemed like a rare thing at the time. Ebay was full of slabbed Kirby comics but the majority of the signed ones wouldn't verify the signature.
Oh and the creative team for New Gods is Ram V and Evan Cagle. It ties into the Absolute and normal DC Universe and it should be pretty amazing..... (Unless you happen to have an AARP membership 😂😂😂)

I will say this, Richard, I agree with you on the original Space Ghost cartoon. I grew up with that and the Herculoids, and that still holds a special place with me. But I guess it's one of those things where you need to be drinking heavily to really enjoy Space Ghost Coast to Coast, or you just have that unique taste in comedy that no one else gets. Good to know we agree on some things!

John's current collecting habits mirror my own right now. I could care less about Hulk 181, but when I found some Looney Tunes books from the early 50's at the swap meet last weekend for a dollar, I got very exited!

Another RUclipsr was bemoaning the fact that a certain comic didn't sell for $300,000 at Heritage, and that reserve was already $300,000 under the previous sale price. For 99.9% of us, such books are simply titles and numbers on a page. We deal with buying and selling comics for $5, $10, maybe $50 - that's the real world of comic book trading. I have no sympathy for the top end of comic book collectors investing mega-money in mega-books and then being hit by losses.
I was shocked to learn of John Cassaday's death earlier this year - a truly standout talent.
Pacific Comics published so much great material in what was for me a golden era of reading and collecting.

I couldn't stand Jack Kirby as a kid (it was all about Miller-Byrne-Simonson-JRJR-Perez). Only Frank Robbins upset me more. Today, Jack Kirby is a deity to me. Frank Robbins still upsets me.

Okay, Frank Robbins was ill-suited for superheroes (though I enjoyed his Batman and Invaders), but he was one of the top syndicated cartoonists of the Caniff school. Check out his Scorchy Smith and Johnny Hazard strips. His planes and aerial shots were superb!

Hello gentlemen, how are you this week? I know I’m getting to this two weeks after it was first aired, but you guys took me back to my high school days when you were talking about the kitty pride and Wolverine miniseries. Back then I would hunt down any number one issue comic, and I would tape it to my wall. Who need wallpaper when you could find a perfectly good coffee book. All my books were put in those plastic bags that turned yellow never had boards because they were gonna be sticking on the wall and I didn’t have to worry about bending them. I am in my mid 50s now and remember several years ago when my parents told me that they found some comic books behind one of my childhood dressers, still stuck to the wall. It didn’t matter if the kitty pride wolverine book was good. All that mattered was that they had a number one issue. About 10 years ago, I came across some of the books that included Thundercats #1. I sent that to CGC and it came back a 9.6. Not bad for a book that was only in a plastic bag with no backing board. I still have my kitty pride and wolverine book, but there’s no way I’m sending that in to get graded. But the memories are worth more than any CGC 9.8 ever would be.

Planetary was such a great book! Loved all the homages to popular characters such as Godzilla, Doc Savage and Fantastic Four. Would like to see this turned into a mini series for Netflix. Loved Authority as well for it's over the top violence and gore and for the relationship between Apollo and Midnighter. I remember when Captain Victory was first published. Way too expensive for my meager allowance! Plus back then I did not appreciate Jack Kirby's art like I do today. But I finally completed my Pacific Comics set this year. No it's time to read them!

First Issue Special had a lot of interesting characters and appearances including Creeper, Dr. Fate and Metamorpho. I'm surprised you didn't mention Kirby's other issues like Manhunter and Dingbats, that had some pretty memorable covers. Lest we forget, probably the most outstanding issue for the wrong reasons is #4 with Lady Cop. +1 on Planetary and The Authority, Richard, you really need to read these outstanding comic books! I think you'll really appreciate the faux-Fantastic Four!
