I worked on the Wacky Racer model kits (I'm a product developer for Round 2, owners of MPC). I'm glad a couple of them found good homes. :)

It's exactly what you said CGC is shooting themselves in the foot at every turn. One scandal after another. They need new management instead of scapegoating the workers.

I bought my copy of Marvel Premiere 15 a few months ago. To date, that's the most I've paid for a single comic book at $250. For me, it's part of a larger effort to track down 1st appearances of all of the Marvel Netflix characters. I'm surprised at how many comic characters they used (at least 50). A side quest from that mission has me trying to buy every issue of every Iron Fist title. I am surprisingly close. Of course, Iron Fist (1975) #14 will be the one that holds me up for a while.

100% meant as a Ben "tease". Remember that Ben was stuck on Battleworld and Shulkie was his replacement. So... it "sort of" looks like the return of Ben on the cover.

You're cleaning house!? Did all this talk of what to do with your personal collection as we age finally get to you John? If you are, put your Charlton blue beetle run up for bids on the live stream! I'll be there for that lol

I sold my copy of Comedy Comics #34 on eBay several years ago for a nice sum of change! Definitely a scarce comic. Final issue of the series and the only one with the teen stars. The previous issues were all funny animal.

Big Buffy fan here. It's been hard to be a B:TVS fan since the revelations about Joss Whedon's conduct came out.
The 98-03 run was just one of the Buffyverse excursions into comics. There were plenty of one shots, stories in DHP, and mini series beyond that main title. The big thing was the launch of the Season 8 comic in 2007. That ran for 40 issues by itself, followed by seasons 9-12, and spin offs centered on Angel and Faith (25 issues) among others. I had a complete run (A and B covers, even) of the Season 8 and newer books but dumped most of them after the truth came out. I do still have my library editions and several original art pages, but much of the joy is gone.
Buffy jumped to BOOM! in 2019, and was rebooted. I have not read any of the BOOM! issues.

I still have all my Bill Sienkiewicz-drawn New Mutants issues, boughs at they were released; I know he can be an acquired taste but I find him a fascinating artist with an immediately recognisable style.
What I miss in modern comics from the Big 2 are character-building interludes and even whole issues in which there is no world-saving and no galaxy-wide threat. Remember Thor #303 with its story of a priest and his faith? The Beast and Wonder Man going out on the town in Avengers #329? The superhero poker game in Marvel Two-In-One #51? It's like Marvel and DC feel obligated to present a blockbuster movie in comic book form every issue in many of their monthly releases at the cost of the quieter moments and stories.

I will say, I’m with Richard on the future for comics. We’re already seeing the evolution of an art form from disposable newsprint to beautifully produced & bound omnibus’ by both the companies themselves or smaller imprints like Taschen & Fantagraphics We’ve seen younger generations collect vinyl and physical media from the mid century from boutique companies like Rhino and Criterion, with the love and nostalgia for eras that we would think they have no connection to. Will it evolve and the characters or style of stories adapt and change, perhaps, but while we question current iterations of characters we grew up with, at some point for sustainability of these IPs, these are no longer going to be pitched at us & nostalgia moves on (like the current 2024 X-Men example you gave John). But I think the nostalgia for these characters has already been proved and if we can still celebrate the 85th Anniversary for the Wizard of Oz, the 65th Anniversary of Barbie, the 80th anniversaries of Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman these last few years, I think longevity isn’t an issue? I feel that there will always be a market for these characters, what form it takes is anyone’s guess?

Have you ever heard of Wei To deacidifacation? I just saw a listing on EBay of a book from 1952 and it said that the cover was treated with it in the 80’s. I had never heard of this before and I was wondering if CGC could detect that and give it a purple label because of it.

I got banned from the CGC forums a couple of weeks ago. I didn't swear or call anybody names. Mostly what I did was defend Jack Kirby's claims that he created most of the first wave of Marvel characters.

CGC deleting criticism would be like McDonald’s or Walmart deleting reviews and criticism of your bad experience
In fact that Ghost Rider where CGC accidentally put the 9.2 label on the 9.8 and vice versa that thread is gone
CGC in the forum even acknowledged that it happened and they were looking to get the books sent back
I never want to hear Matt Nelson saying he loves the community and listening to everyone while CGC mistakes are being erased from history
I’m looking forward to Marvel Rivals I haven’t played yet but the fact that the game is free and has about 32 playable characters on day one if very impressive most games would make you wait 6 months and sell you a character pack like Mortal Kombat

Superhero fans are way too quick to trash artists who don’t stick close to the “house” style. Kirby, Sienkiewicz, and J.R. Jr., are modern masters, and we’re lucky they weren’t boxed in by popular conventions. People will remember them for pushing boundaries, but also because you can see the sheer love they have for the medium.

I'm sure westerns can still work today, as long as the indigenous peoples are not portrayed as the bad guys for defending their own lands.

Bronze and Modern Gods, "No Drama." Starts to discuss CGC and there's immediate drama lol. I know its not your fault but CGC is under a lot of heat recently and this forum stuff won't help.
With that being said, I've never used the forums much but it sounds like they are "cleaning up their act" in terms of being more business/CGC friendly.
Maybe there's a market for a new forum on Facebook or something.

The “No Drama” tag refers more to some of the weird, non-comics related drama some RUclips channels seem to revel in.

Kirby defined a generation? Kirby defined 3 generations? Sorry, you're both wrong. Kirby defined the entire medium, period. Tell me I'm wrong? As far as Marvel Collectors' Items Classics, it hurts that such an old and underrated book from 1965 only got $660 for a high grade 9.4. It's damn near criminal.

While I never appreciated Jack Kirby's artwork, I do agree that JR JR's style is similar. Never did like or understand that form. I think JR JR would have done better honoring his dad's style by putting a bit of a twist to it rather than developing his own style of cubism. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everything is subjective, so to each their own.
