Hey there! I know I'm a little late to the party, but for anyone who is getting the "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" it is because steam is still running in the background. Make sure steam is closed all the way (go into task manager and make sure to end the steam processes, including the background ones), and THEN save your games. It should work upon login (Or, at least it did for me).
Thanks my dude!
Wow, thanks for the tip
this still works - thank you
Thanks for this man! Getting my emulators working with Steam so I can play them on my TV using Steam Link. We're living in the future!
Question what are you using to link it to your tv
Steam link. Most modern TVs have the app
Doing the same. Streaming from my PC to my Apple TV
Perfect tutorial man! I love how you explain what's important and what isn't and exactly every step.
I am excited. this tutorial and program is extremely easy and I love it in Big Picture mode. Thank you!!!
I added Kega Fusion for Genesis emulator - setup icons for some games, but emulator throws an error. But it works as standalone.
mines shows error also, can you help thanks for the info though
nevermind steam had to update games are in now thanks
EXCELLENT Alex, very well done. Thank you for this video
Many thanks for your video. I just started getting some of my favorites on GameCube and Wii so I wanted to have more easier access to them via Steam so your video is wonderful. Need to get a USB Wii sensor to better play some of the Wii games like Galaxy 2
Thanks for this, I'll definitely be making use of this once my Steam Deck arrives :p
oh my god thank you. I seriously would not have been able to do this without your video
This is EXACTLY! EXACTLY what I was looking for! I was doing everything manually, adding each game manually to Steam as a non-steam game and writing out the file path. I then thought, "hold on, there has to be a better way". THANK YOU to you AND the creator of Steam Rom Manager!
...However, it seems like with the new re-vamp of Steam's Library page... this no longer works that well. Also, Steam ROM Manager isn't pulling in artwork for many of the apps/games when I Generate the app list. Bummer.
Also, great calm voice.
And, Bullet Club, 4-4-4 life
Edit: Steam ROM Manager still helps in IMPORTING all of the games to Steam, though. It just doesn't automatically put them in a category for you, nor does it display any Cover Art from steamgrid. In Steam. you will have to manually group games up in collections and add your own art. STILL THOUGH, I tested that the games DO RUN upon clicking "Play!" That in itself is huge! Alex, thanks again bro!
Thanks so much for this! Did this for Yuzu, and Steam Roms has changed their layout just a teeny bit but so far all are the same. :)
Great Video Alex. Thank you.
If your RL job doesn't pan out, you have a future as an ASMRist :)
Also, emulation is great!
Super helpful video you earned a sub!
First off, thank you a ton for the video, I didn't know this program existed. But incase anyone else isn't seeing their games in their library, try resetting your computer. Steam updates itself whenever you do, and that ended up being my problem.
Anytime my dude. Glad it worked!
I restarted my pc but games still don’t show up in library :(
Did you make sure to exit steam before running Steam Rom manager?
OhNoItsAlexx I believe so. I exited everything and restarted pc but still doesn’t show up in library
Despite knowing it was working on steam, I couldn't get my Switch Pro Controller working on the PCSX2, but thanks to this and using steam I got to play my favorite PS2 games. Thanks.
Thank you very much for this! It was very useful! Just got my ROMs imported.
Nice my dude
@@OhNoItsAlexx Thanks. General question: Do I need to configure my controller in the emulators themselves or will Steam do it for me? My SNES games seem fine, but my Gamecube ones aren't responding.
You’ll have to do both sadly. I use a steam controller and on steam I set it up as however I like, then in the emulator I’ll just tap the setup once and I’m done
Steam will create the config and the emulator will follow suit
@@OhNoItsAlexx Ah, okay. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
You got it my dude.
Thank you for making this video man!
Glad it was helpful!
Dude you are amazing, helped me a lot, thanks!!
hey! so for gamecube, there is a new category titled "start in" directory. What would i put in that directory??
Althought the video is a bit longer than needed, it helped me alot.
It's a how to. I want to make sure people know How To..do this.
@@OhNoItsAlexx i mean yeah. Its just rinse repeat from a certain point on.
No matter what, i still upvoted cuz the video helped me. I just realised i came over pretty douchy, so i edited that.
Lol all good
Good video, but I want to ask, since I couldnt find the answer on the internet, what if I add more games or emulators later, do I need to regenerate the whole list again and save it? Or is there a faster way to do it, it seems takes alot of time for me it is like over 10k providers etc
Great video Alex! I am encountering a problem though. All my games show up in steam, but when I try to launch them I get and error message "Exception caught " File:N64 system?N64class.cpp Line:558. Any idea how to fix this and get the games to run? Thanks!
That’s for project 64 right? Yes! That only happens when the steam controller is on before the emulator is launched.
Close project 64 in task manager, turn off the steam controller. Relaunch your n64 game, then power on your steam controller. Should work then
Nice dude! Check out the newer videos, it has a link to my discord
your video gonna be so popular when the steam deck is out. lol trust me
Well, only if it applies to Linux. Also, Retroarch is in Steam
Awesome video, thanks for the tutorial.
Anytime dude
@@OhNoItsAlexx Just as a quick note, I was actually trying to Google how to do all this manually today. Even found some Reddit posts about creating ".bat" files and "dummy .exe" files pointing to the emus and their specific roms. Suffice to say those didn't work for me. This, however was super simple. Thx again.
Yo, I followed all the steps (except instead of using the Snes emulator I used DeSmuME) but when I save the app list, the ROMs don't appear in my steam library, all that appears is the category labeled "DS". Any idea on what I should do to fix this?
Hello. I set up Project 64 in the rom manager, opened up steam, and the Nintendo 64 category can't be found anywhere. What can I do to fix this?
hello im a gamer and it is cool to get to see you on the first vid
Awesome video, but I was wondering, how do you also set up controller support to run a controller through your tv? My controller works for normal steam games but had no effect on the emulated games.
If the steam overlay is on the emulated game, you should be able to customize it on steams big picture mode
@@OhNoItsAlexx I'm currently running this setup through the Steam Link App on my Samsung TV. To be honest, aside from epsxe I have been able to get my controller to work. Were you able to get the controller to work with games on epsxe, or did you run into any problems as well? Thanks!
Great video man, would it be possible for you to compile your psx, wiiu, and 64 games in a zip? would love to try all those games while out of town, Thanks in advance!
I'm not able to hand them out, but there are other places you can find them. Google always works =)
You are amazing!!! what a video!!! I want to ask you something... can I configure on Steam different kind of controllers? I mean, if I have controllers like the classic super nintendo and I use the emulator for SNES roms, but after that I want to play PSX roms and I also have controllers like the classic play station I have to configurate it every time or just the first time? Or Steam reconizes the game and what control I'm using?, what about if I change for the N64 and I also have the classic controllers? And so on... THANK YOU!!!
Hello there. I have my roms configured through a core on launchbox. I am able to import all my roms from the launchbox folders and it has my saves etc into steam using your video instructions..
Though when I launch, all my core settings dissapear. For example I am using vba-next-libretro to launch my GBA games and have it to appear a certain way with a bezel etc. How do i keep these settings when I set up parsers?
Been tryin to add MAME from retroarch and I can't seem to get the games to launch in steam. Do you know any fixes for this?
You deserve the Novel Peace Prize for this
Great video!👍 Is there a way to just add games one at a time? I have thousands of roms but I dont want ALL of them added to steam. Just a select few from each emulator.
You can. There's a thread on it in the steam forums i think
I use launchbox, now i knew this exist I try this aswell. ty sir. :)
Very strange that in my steam rom manager which is the latest, the presets option/menu is not something I can just pick it is instead just a normal text field and open to write anything so I can not get any preset settings at all. Do you guys know what I can have done worng here?
Thanks for this video. I got a problem it shows that i have a game for dolphin, but it doesnt show anything in the preview tab in ROM Manager, or steam itself
I appreciate this video but I ran into one problem. It seems that games using Super Game Boy enhancements won’t be identified even though they work fine. In my case, I’m trying to have Mega Man World V DX and Wario Land DX show up on mGBA and despite playing it fine on the emulator itself, I can’t get the ROM Manager to pull it up. I couldn’t find anyone who was having this problem.
How do you add a specific game without deleting the shortcuts on steam cause I added a couple games with the manager and it doubled all the games it wasn’t hard to remove but is there a way to do that without doubling or deleting shortcuts
I'm having the same issue. Were you able to solve it?
@@ItsSebaTime honestly just use launchbox or something dude this shit isn’t worth setting up
With older games it’ll create an additional shortcut with multi disc games. Just delete the shortcuts on steam that are dupes and you’re good.
You can even hold Ctrl on your keyboard and click select them
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!
Is there a more updated version of this I tried his link but can’t figure it out
Which Steam do you use to set up the PS 2 emulator? I did everything but somehow it won't launch on any game. I click on play and all I see is the black screen for 2 seconds and it goes back to steam. Can you solve the solutions? I'm using the PC windows.
Hello there! How do I get to the emulator settings when launching via Steam?
Amazing!
anyone knows if there is a way to only add individual games? for instance I don't want my entire Dreamcast collection, just 1 game from it, but if I use the software, it populates all games in the folder and there is no option or at least none that I have seen that lets me just pick the ones I would want to show up on my steam client, if I wanted the whole bunch is better just to use the front end provided by emudeck.
im on MacOS and trying to do this with RyuJinx do I put the .app file in the executable because there is no .exe
Nice! 💪🏼
Its a great video and it helped me a whole lot, I have one question however. Any idea if this works with steam link, where you connect a controller to the steam link box (or maybe a new Samsung smart tv) and start the emulator and it's games from there?
It sure does work with the stream link
@@OhNoItsAlexx Yeah?!! Also the smart TV version? If so I'm hyped
Hey man, my gamecube games show up in steam, but when I launch them it just goes back to the launch screen. Any theories?
Anyway u can add preview videos for ur games?
It seems like the newest steam beta broke steam rom manager. Emudeck has reported the same problem and they had it fixed within a day, but seeing as how srm hasn't been updated in over 6 months, guessing this won't be fixed...
from what i can tell if you have folders for your roms/isos labeled A, B, C, D, ETC then you can't do that sadly
struggling how to scan sub folders.. how do I fix that?
Mines not working for some reason, I’m trying to put dolphin games on steam but it’s not showing up. Is it even compatible with the latest version of Steam?
Try shutting steam down and rebooting the pc. Should still work yeah
Hi,I am having an issue with what seems to be a second user on my account,on the steam rom manager is displaying my steam username and someone else's,can you help ?
why does it makes duplicates grids after making new parser?
anyone know what the command line argument for Duckstation (PS1 emulator) is?
My dolphin has the Wii menu/GameCube menu will it still works with this?
yes
Hi, I'm getting the error "Non-fatal error(-s) occurred while saving VDF/image files." Any way I can fix this?
I've never seen that error before. Thats super weird
Nevermind, I fixed it
What I did was realize I was using the Dolphin GameCube preset, and realized it was adding Wii games too. So I did that, and also I realized I wasn't using images on all of the games, so I did that too. It ended up working.
I don't know if it was because I removed the Wii games or because I added the images, but judging from the error it's probably the latter.
Nice
How do I get it to use the controller configs that are set up in the emulator? whenever I launch my games through steam my controller does not work but when I launch them directly through the emulator my controller works fine.
I have the same issue. Did you ever figure it out?
@@MetalBroGaming Yeah, I had to change in the emulator from using Dinput to Xinput because thats what steam uses, from there you can map your controls and tthey should work fine
@@moosedoggy Good to know. Though on Dolphin I don't see anything about Xinput.
@@moosedoggy respect to u replying after months have passed
@@Relphy I'm just doing my part
I've tried all these steps with my MGBA emulator and added the games to my steam library but whenever I try to play the games fail to launch. Somebody help?
EDIT: Turns out I'm dumb. In the latest version of SRM, you have to manually check if the Command Line Arguments are the right ones for your emulator. Once I got it for mGBA, I redid the process and got everything working.
great job thank you!
Thanks my duxe
Dude
Hey Alex, thank you for your time making this video. could you please fix the steam rom manager link? thank you
Done. appimage.github.io/steam-rom-manager/
OH MY GOD THANK YOU
I did the same and it didn't show the wii category in steam
I like this! I ditched burned and deleted the headache called LaunchBox. Since I have lots of steam games and got the steam store, figured make steam be my frontend. Well how can I add video previews for my games if that's possible
What am I doing wrong, everything but the ps1 games launch?
I'm trying to add GameCube games to Steam, but the category isn't showing up.
Edit: nevermind, I got it, just had to generate the preview thing.
Aye bro it still ain't working for me. Did you have steam fully closed?
Works perfectly
nice dude
Hey can you help me? So pokemon X was working and then I tryed to connect to internet and wonder trade ( not sure why) 😅 anyhow, The game stopped working, i downloaded new ones same issue. Deleted save file and cache same issue. All my other 3ds pokemon games work.
DS and Gameboy don't work. For DS the play button comes on then goes off without ever opening DeSmuME and for GBA it opens the VBA emulator and says "Unsupported file type: -L."
Having the exact same problem so I'm commenting to get reminded if somebody finds a solution
Can this be used with retroarch for steam?
like and comment from me, This worked, 10/10, saved me major headache. thank you.
Does this work on the new steam library/client? pretty sure i've done everything right but i cant get to view the roms on my library...i think its because the new categorizing layout kinda sucks. great video tho :'/
hey did you ever get this fixed!!?
@@LOWKEYOfficial1 bro its been hell because i have been reverting to the old steam ui (which takes some effort to actually make it happen) and THEN try to get the steam rom manager to work and every time i do something wrong and i re-log to steam it upgrades to the new steam ui (no roms) so that was a pain in the ass.
but even when i revert to the old ui and got the roms. when i upgrade to the new one every rom gets removed so ://
Just gonna wait for a new version of steam rom manager or idk whatever
@@ImARocker75 Any updates?
You have to close Steam completely and then run the software
I don't understand what the executable is and i don't know if i have it
Something about the way Citra works now causes it to crash when launching from one of these shortcuts. I know that it used to work a long time ago
Hey does anyone know if you can still get this working with the new steam interface? thanks
Yes. The icons though will only show in big picture mode....new icons will have to be manually added
Ive done the same stuff as in the tutorial and it recognizes my games but when i go into steam none of them show up.
Restart your pc
can you play coop with friends who also join in?
Hey does it work on wii u roms and switch?
When I try to open the application, it says windows protected your pc and it wont start up.
12:22 very true.
Thanks Alex
Anytime
Im enjoying devil may cry this video useful for me in windows.
Not to be a dick, but they're all already on Steam. Why emulate it?
@@Soup-man Not to be a dick, but not all of them on steam "at the time" why comment in the first place before researching?
@@SleepyRulu Oh. I see. My bad
i use Ryujinx for switch and i dont see it :(
I kinda messed up my config, fixed it the second time but the old links still exist in my steam library. Is there any way to delete them ?
You can right click the old link and delete the shortcut in steam
@@OhNoItsAlexx
The problem is that i have hundreds of games added ... Maybe deleting the entire shortcuts.vdf file would fix it ... but that would delete my entire library.
@@OhNoItsAlexx
nvm figured out that i can select multiple entries and delete them.
Anyone have any idea why steam cant boot the roms? If I manually open the game through the emulator they work fine but not if I try to open them via steam?
Exact same problem here. I can see the games in my steam library, with artwork and all. When I click play I see a quick pop-up window from steam and it closes instantly and nothing happens. Did you find the solution?
@@nivro4128 same here, did you ever found the solution?
What shows up in the steam friend list? ePSXe launched or a particular game name?
The games name shows up
how to deal with multiple instances?
Alex talks to the ladies about emulators and roms and they fall in love. 🤣
PCSX2 does not work for me, as soon as i click play on steam it just says running then it goes back to play any idea how can i fix it?
Could be a pcsx2 issue. Does it run directly from the emulator?
So my controller (nintendo switch) works fine when I launch the game through emulator itself, but does not work when I launch the game through steam. I'm using Dolphin.
first thing to always check is to make sure steam can see your controller and that the setting for switch controllers is enabled.
Only problem I have is to open the big picture steam UI from Xbox controller when I'm in a emulator game. It works only on a normal steam game
Open the big picture mode, or have the Xbox controller work in big picture mode?
This is great! The only problem I am having is when I launch a game it doesnt detect my controller, any solutions?
Add the emulator as an exe and you can use Steam big picture to map the buttons. Voila
@@OhNoItsAlexx done that and it is still not detecting my controller in game only when i am in the menu (F1) retroarch
Can you use steam link with this to play from your phone? How would the controller config from steam connect to the controller from the emulator?
I use my steam link all the time with this. Are you using a steam controller?
@@OhNoItsAlexx no I use the steam link app on iPhone with a PS4 controller
@@jon1819 That'll work! Just add the actual emulator into steam, configure the PS Controller for the emulator and you're good to go!
@@OhNoItsAlexx had some trouble but figured out I was t generating the app list. Worked perfect! Thanks man
Can't get Sony ps1 roms into steam. I'm using duckstation. Please help
How could I put rom hacks?
I have this problem can I get some help:
Warning! No user accounts found, it could be due to one of the reasons below:
- incorrect Steam directory;
- no user has ever logged in;
- Steam does not save user credentials ("Show advanced options -> User accounts -> Use account credentials").
If you're seeing this, preview won't be generated for this configuration.
Hey, more than likely it’s your steam directory. Make sure it’s in your Programs X86 folder and is where the steam exe is located.
Also make sure steam is closed out completely before running
