Scott Hoying doesn't usually start that deep, He is the baritone of the group. He generally takes the bass line when the bass singer, Matt Salle here, is taking the lead. Kristie Maldonado and Mitch Grassi change their looks up A LOT. Avi Kaplan left the group for personal reasons in 2017. That is the only change in the line-up.
And Avi was the original bass.

Unfortunately, Avi couldn't keep up with the groups schedule, especially since his mother was really sick and needed Avi's help at home.
The third singer was Matt Sallee. He replaced Avi Kaplan, the bearded guy, as the bass singer in 2017. That is the only line-up change that they have had. He left to spend more time with his family, as his mom was suffering from cancer at the time. PTX had been keeping a break-neck pace from 2011 and it was taking a toll on him. Since, he is releasing and touring as a solo act at his own pace.
I think I also saw him on a guest appearance with Home Free.

Kevin is fantastic. KO was pre-med, speaks 4 languages, plays cello and beatbox. Oh, and fluent in Mandarin. PTX snapped him up.

Their version of "Mary Did You Know?" You will melt.
PTX are known for their immaculate and intricate arrangements, with the help of Ben Bram the "6th member" of the group. Their use of counter melodies and interesting harmonies never fails to impress. It is one of the reasons that they are known as masters of mashups 'La La Latch' and 'New Rules X Are You That Somebody' along with any of the 'Evolution of...' videos are must sees for that talent.
Who is Ben Bram? Penta means 5. Why would they have a 6th,? They are perfect as 5! BTW, I am a big PTX fan. Watched their performances on The Sing Off many times. Along with Home Free.
@@babswong792 Ben Bram went to college with Scott and helped put the group together and helps with production and edits. He was on stage with them when they won the Grammy for daft punk.

A semi-brief introduction to Pentatonix (aka PTX):
A five member acapella (no instrument) group formed in 2011.
They sing covers of pop songs and have several Christmas albums in their catalog.
They've also put out two albums of original material, one just released February 12, 2021 (The Lucky Ones).
The original band members were Scott, Kirstin (Kirstie), Mitch, Kevin and Avi.
Scott, Kirstin and Mitch knew each other from high school. They formed the group in 2011, adding Avi (bass) and Kevin (beatboxer).
They auditioned, competed and won season 3 of the television show The Sing-Off.
They've won multiple awards including three Grammys.
Of the five original members, four are still in the group. Avi left the group in 2017 and was replaced with Matt.
While acappella since forming the group, they occasionally introduce instruments such as piano (played by Scott) and cello (played by Kevin). They've also included vocals and instrumentals played by featured guests.
Most of their 'instrumental' sounds' however, are created by Kevin, their very talented beatboxer along with baselines performed by Avi, Matt and Scott.
While performing together as a five-member group, they also have individual works worth investigating.

The "Catch-22" of wanting to close your eyes while listening to PTX is that they happen to be 5 very gorgeous people...
You might like Imagine, the Evolution of Michael Jackson, the Evolution of Rihanna, Amazing Grace, etc.
And the thing, the song is from Simon and Garfunkel from back in the '1960s. Very nice update they put together with their rendition.
You can watch their live performance of Halleluiah and get a pretty good idea of who's doing what when. It's fascinating.
I was going to say the live version of their Daft Punk medley would be a good way to know but then they just need to remember that in videos where Avi is not there, Matt is doing what Avi would be doing for those songs. (Bass and some sound effects.)
I love the look on her face while PTX is singing, Its' like she is mad at how good they are. :)

PTX has been doing this for a long time now. They were putting together arrangements in under 24 hours on the Sing Off competition and that was a decade ago. They are just consummate musicians - Professionals. ya know? 😁

Scott Hoying, tall blond, the guy to his right Mitch Grassi and the young lady Kirstin Maldonado (Kirsti) have known each other since they were kids in Arlington, Texas and formed a trio together in high school (it is so easy for them to sound so good together because they have been doing it for half their lives). Also Kirsti and Mitch change their looks all the time. Avi Kaplan (the first bass (2011-2017)) and Kevin Olusola (Beat boxer plus he plays his cello named Beyoncé once in a while) joined them when they tried out for the 3rd season of The Sing Off (they needed 5 people in the group) they won. After Avi left the group (on good terms for personal reasons) Matt Salle joined the group as bass in 2017.

There is only one member change in their ten years together. Kirstin and Mitch are like chameleons, and constantly change their hair styles and colors. Kevin the beat boxer is also a great tenor and cellist. Whenever they use a musical instrument it will be shown.

Don't know how that rumor got started, but Avi had nothing to do with finding Matt. Matt was found by a talent scout that the group and their producer Ben Bram hired to find a replacement for Avi.
Love your reactions to Pentatonix and very disappointed that you have only done the two reactions. They have so many beautiful songs. You are really missing out.

The thing that amazes me with their harmony is that no one ever seems to miss a note, or tone, or timing. No mistakes!
Would love to see a video of them working a new song, how they arrange it, plan out the harmonies, etc. It has to take weeks to perfect each song. Just incredible!

Another PTX song that really shows off their capability for coming up with incredible arrangements is Evolution of Ariana Grande. The way they transition from song to song, and Kevin''s beat changes are absolutely out of this world!

the drum sounds you hear are kevin beatboxing. Scott sings first, Mitch sings second Matt sings third and Kristin sings last. Scott MItch and kristin were in season 11 episode 16 THE STIRKE IN THE CHORD on the tv show Bones
The complexity of the music they create really blows me away. They are so precise. And the harmonies are so complex. The runs they do, the hard stops falling back while something else steps up... it's amazing. They are amazing individually and collectively and they layer all of that and still have brain space for choreography. Just phenomenal.

Just 1 different, Matt on the left took over bass for Avi Kaplan who left in 2017 for family and personal reason on great terms. Matt has been a perfect transition. Mitch is a chameleon constantly changing looks, Kirstie has her natural hair color in this video. Seamless layers of musical perfection. Otherworldly. Why do I tear up every time I hear this song? My family actually got to meet Scott about 4 or 5 years ago because my oldest son did musical theater with Scott's cousin in Fort Worth. Scott was singing at his church in Arlington on Christmas Eve and we met up with him. Wow....such a down to earth guy. He was so nice, so humble....just a regular person, but with a beautiful voice. Can't wait to surprise my family with tickets to their concert next time they come in town!

Mitch, Scott and Kirsten have sung together since middle school or at least high-school. They are besties, their gift is the ability to bring others into their triad.

One way the best/closest groups 'create' a song - or a harmony section - is to just 'do it' start singing, to jam. u see the same thing more often when people sit a piano or two guitarists working out who plays what. then they just change it up and at some point they go 'that is the one we want'. Its work but its also fun
They have taken a'capella to a place beyond the stratosphere. I grew up with
great a'capella groups in the 60's but they always consisted of a monotone
form or harmony. This group has reinvented a'capella but are only able to do
it because all members have superior range and abilities.

Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch (the 3 middle people) have known and sing with each other since childhood. I honestly think that dynamic is crucial in their cohesiveness.
I would recommend reacting to their “Evolution of...videos, ie, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson. The arrangements and vocals are perfection. In these particular videos all of the members are onscreen for the whole video so you can see each person doing their part.
Their first "Evolution" was the "Evolution of Music". That one was amazing! As they take through time of Music. It is an eye opener. Especially as you hit the 1960's. Watch and see, and of course, "hear"!!
