Avi, the guy with the beard, is their bass. He's the one making the sounds that appear to be a rhythm bass playing behind them. He's also making sounds like wind crimes. Kevin, the black guy, is their beatboxer. He's the one doing the kicks, the stomps, and all the other percussive sounds. He's also the one in the group with perfect pitch. That means everyone else is taking their cues from the metronome that he represents. The other three are Scott, the first guy, their baritone. He covers the bass whenever Avi takes lead, unless that lead is actually sung in bass. Not very likely. Then there's Kirstie. She's a mezzo-soprano. She is also their most accomplished belter, and the most likely to go into belt. Then finally, the guy with the big hat and angelic voice is Mitch. He's a countertenor, the highest of the male classifications. Personally I think he's capable of reaching coloratura soprano, which is the highest of the frmale classifications. That's a fair thumbnail sketch of the group.
The Mitch face gets me every time … his voice is of the angels. They are all crazy good and Kevin O the beat boxer is out of this world talented. His channel is phenomenal.
When I listened to it for the first time, I thought it was a woman singing, really 😅 (don't beat, I was listening on Spotify) but that's right he has such a beautiful high voice 🥰
I think part of their magic is their unselfishness. They each pass the lead around like an Olympic baton, and the support the “new” lead with perfect backup. They all have incredible voices, but their ability to not try blast out over the other members is noteworthy.
THE VERY REASON I HOLD THEM IN TREMENDOUS RESPECT. HARD TO FIND 1 UNSELFISH PERSON. NEVER MIND 5 SUPREMELY GIFTED ARTISTS IN THE SAME GROUP. WHEN I LISTEN TO THIER MUSIC I AM IN AWE. EACH AND EVERY TIME. THEY MAKE ME SMILE, EVEN WHEN THEY PERFORM SOMBER MUSIC. I PARTICULARLY LOVE THIER MUSIC THAT LEANS INTO A SPIRITUAL ESSENCE.
Every single time. Their cover of The Little Drummer Boy brings me to tears every.single.time. The words and meaning and beauty comes across when they cover it 💜
"You have Mitch face" lol. That expression people get on their face the first time they listen to Pentatonix and hear Mitch Grassi hit those incredible high notes.
An introduction to Pentatonix for you: Scott: the tall blonde guy in the middle with the first solo. He's the baritone of the group but has a range of about 4 octaves. He's just as comfortable harmonizing on the high notes as he is taking the bass line when Avi is singing. Speaking of which... Avi: the guy with the beanie and the second solo. He's an amazing opera trained bass and doesn't have many solo parts but he always kills it when he does sing. He left the group in 2017 on good terms with the rest of the members and helped find his replacement, Matt. Kirstin: the only female in the group, she had the third solo. She has the least solos of the main 3 that you'll find, but she always kills it when she does sing(examples are Say Something, Sound of Silence, Imagine, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, all of which are among their best work) Mitch: He's the man with the amazing voice and the final solo in this song. He's a tenor, and has a purely angelic voice. He also has an amazing range, I've heard 5 octaves before. Kevin: an AMAZING beatboxer, that's his main role, but he occasionally shows off his beautiful tenor voice (Imagine is a great example) and his skills with the cello, which he can play while beatboxing simultaneously. Pentatonix got their start on an old competition show called the Sing Off where acapella groups competed against each other for a $200,000 cash prize and a recording contract. Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch sang in choir together in school and have been best friends since they were teenagers. They found Avi through a friend and Kevin through one of his "cello boxing"(playing the cello and beatboxing) videos that went viral. They won the competition, you can still find the performances on RUclips. It's amazing to watch them grow throughout the show. Unfortunately, the record label dropped them shortly after they moved out to make music, so they persevered and self produced for a while until they were picked up by another label. They are the only acapella group to ever win a Grammy, and they have won 3: for their Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene ft. Dolly Parton. They're an amazing group, every one of them is one of the most talented singers in the world, and they have never released a bad song imo. Yes they do sound the same live, and yes it is all acapella. They never use instruments except for the occasional use of a cello when they feel it enhances the song (like their covers of Radioactive, Say Something, and Perfect). They have a rule that if they can't do it live they can't release it. I recommend all 3 songs above, Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Sound of Silence, and anything else you want to hear! Their Grammy winners are all insanely good, as is their new album of all original songs. Welcome to musical heaven!
It's a misconstrued notion that Avi helped find Matt. PTX went through an Agency to audition for a bass singer. Matt made it through to the finals group and came well prepared. He learned every PTX song and won the part.
All past & present members are *exceptional* singers. ‘Wonderful’ & ‘awesome’ music are poor descriptors of their voices - ‘sprit filled’ gets closer to how they make me feel.
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America's Got Talent as non-competitors a couple of years after that. The members are (in order of solos in this video) Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five-to-six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair, true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range as heard during his solo); Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); Mitch Grassi (little guy in the hat, a true contra-tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world-class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre-med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on RUclips, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga's "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC-based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi's performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his RUclips videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello-Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re-arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five-piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on RUclips), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn't think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on RUclips, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super-viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony's top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best-selling genre), and have had multi-platinum album sales, sold-out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) was brought in as the new bass singer in early 2018. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre.
Guys, they're not only an acapella group but The Acapella Group, not comparing to the other, you know...they can't be compared to any other. Edit: Mitch always get people stop in their tracks to make sure he's THE ONE singing, 😍beautiful!!!
Yeah, they manage to do better with 5 people than group with 10 or more. Another group i like is Strait No Chaser, which has like 12 guys, and they can't do half as good a Pentatonix. That's not a slight against them, just that Pentatonix is just that much better than any other group.
Just wait til you discover that Kevin, the beat boxer, can beatbox while playing the cello. He also has a lovely tenor voice and an amazing falsetto. We are all convinced he has multiple brains. They were on the Sing Off season 3 (and won). Look for pentatonix hallelujah live Christmas special to hear it live.
Kevin is a world class cello player. He has played at Carnegie hall. He also plays piano and saxophone. He is fluent in mandarin and he graduated premed from Harvard
Everyone agrees, Kevin is amazing! To see him beatboxing while playing the cello, check out their collab with Lindsey Stirling covering Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. I really like the group's rendition of Carol of the Bells, which shows off Mitch and Avi's bass. Or Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They have original songs, too!
Them and Home Free are my two favorite Acapella. The bass is Avi Kaplan dark haired white guy with beard. He has left group and has a song called Change on the Rise, which is great.
I was just saying a minute ago, it’s amazing that Pentatonix and home free came out of one little NBC television show called the sing off. One of the the best musical competitions ever on and I’m not sure why it never took off.
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix, or PTX for short. Get ready for a quick boost to your channel from their rabid fans who call ourselves “Pentaholics”. Here is my quick intro to the group for new fans. PTX is a five member “a Capella” (without instruments) vocal band formed in 2011 for the NBC television reality competition show “The Sing Off”. The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of: SCOTT HOYING, male, 6’3”, usually blond, sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead. MITCH GRASSI, male, 5’10”, normally black hair but has changed body mass, wardrobe and hair style so much in videos he’s often mistaken for different people. Mitch has an amazingly high range (contra tenor) that some mistake for a second female voice. KIRSTIN MALDONADO, female, 5’4”, natural hair color is black but changes it often in videos. Kirsti (rhymes with “thirsty”) sings mezzo soprano and, for a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Added to “the trio” for the show were: AVI KAPLAN, male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind. Avi is a classically trained “basso profundo”. He provides the vocal bass line as well as added vocal percussion but often uses his upper registry to sing vocal leads in a number of arrangements. Avi is the ONLY member of the band that has change. He left on good terms in 2017 for reasons related to conflicting demands of the band’s touring schedule and his personal/family commitments. KEVIN OLUSOLA male, 6’1”, black, changing hair style, is known as “KO” and was asked to join PTX to provide vocal percussion after Scott watched a RUclips video of him “cello boxing” (beatboxing while playing his cello). KO is the classic over achiever of the group. He plays Cello, Piano, and Saxophone all at concert levels. He graduated pre-med from Yale, speaks Spanish and spent over a year in China where he became fluent in Chinese. He sings Tenor but vocals were not his strong suite when he started so he worked with other band members and a vocal coach until while on tour he would perform the featured vocals in "if I ever fall in love", (originally performed by guest artist Jason Derulo for the album and video). He also writes and produces music both individually and for the group. So, KO is more than “just the beatboxer”. The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is: MATT SALLEE, male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair. Matt replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion. Matt can be heard using his exceptional upper vocal range to provide a rich tenor/baritone lead often ending with a slide down to a deep bass punch. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. The only exception is they may deliberately use Auto-Tune when they cover songs where it was used in the original and is key to the sound of that song. An example is "90's Dance Medley" when they use it in Cher’s, “Believe”. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage. Enjoy the ride.
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 They use instruments in specific songs, such as Kevin's cello in the cover of "Shallow", and AutoTune on covers where it is required to capture the texture of the original song. But for about 90+% of their music, it's just them.
@@TexasOutrider right they are not a cappella I got that before but autotune is a step totally beyond. Time to just stop saying it is an a cappella band because it isn't anymore.
Now you should check out PTX doing Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine ... then watch their medleys/evolutions (Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Ariana Grande). And that’s just the starter course. 😀
Don't cry?!? Let it flow! They deserve it! This song brings tears every single time I hear it... and for the last few months is been at least once a day. Solace and peace... that it exactly. Gotta go see if you found the live performance from their Christmas special... it was perfect.
The Bass was done by Avi Kaplan (cap and beard). Kevin is the beatboxer in the group. They were on the Sing off season 3 and won it. check out Hallelujah live version. Thanks for reacting
Yes the most song ever and important song ever im not a Christian I’m just a believer love this song every time I hear it this song give me so much faith ciaos from Am Samoa with love ciaos peace
Mitch has a range that is VERY close to Dimash with his high voice. He is extremely talented I can't begin to tell you. Avi is the one doing the bass with the long hair and the beanie. They both are my favorite... Avi has since left the group but he has done a bunch of songs that are pretty incredible since then.
If Mitch’s voice catches you, check out both versions of ‘Aha!’, the live and the video, video first for clarity. Avi was the major bass and bass tones, now its Matt. Scott backs up the bass when Avi or Matt is singing. And Kevin is just a damn genius in everything he does, period. Kirstin is a angelic dynamo who is finally spotlighting more.
Your delighted smile is something else. Been a PTX fan for 10 years and they make me super happy. They are crazy talented, sophisticated, sometimes silly, fun and incredibly creative. They all bring so much to the group. Great reaction. 🤗
A brief introduction to Pentatonix: A five member acapella group formed in 2011. They sing covers of pop songs and have several Christmas albums in their catalog. They've also put out two albums of original material, one just released February 12, 2021 (The Lucky Ones). The original band members were Scott, Kirstin (Kirstie), Mitch, Kevin and Avi. Of these five, four are still in the group. Avi left the group in 2017 and was replaced with Matt. They've won multiple awards including three Grammys. While acappella since forming the group, they occasionally introduce instruments such as piano (played by Scott) and cello (played by Kevin). They've also included instrumentals played by featured guests. Most of their 'instrumental sounds' however, are created by Kevin, their very talented beatboxer along with baselines performed by Matt and Scott. While performing as a five-member group, they also have individual works worth investigating. There's so much more info 'Pentaholics' can add to this list. Just ask and they will respond. Enjoy!
This is my favorite group EVER. And I never get tired of watching newbies get Mitch slapped. I was privileged to see them perform this past September in Phoenix. FYI, they’re better live!! ❤❤❤
Avi Kaplan is the greatest bass singlet alive today! He is a master and if you listen he is flowing all through this song. It is the foundation that fills in the beauty of this song. I like everything about Pentatonix but the older songs with Avi on the bass are my absolute favorites!
Kevin(the brutha as BJ said) is the beatboxer, but he also has an angelic voice as well, the bass notes Asia pointed out is Avi(the 'brutha of another color' with the dark beard wearing a woolie).
Welcome, to the Pentaholics. 😄 You will understand more, as you go through their over 160 songs. Seriously, be prepared to be amazed. Shoot, the have even done the Wizard of Ahhs. 😊 Great reaction. 👍
Loved this! 💙 so there is Kirstin (ker-stin) the girl of the group with an incredible voice. Scott (my personal fav) the blonde guy who sang first is a baritone but takes over bass when the bass are singing. If you go back and listen you can hear it he does absolutely amazing, he is so versatile! Mitch is the one with the hat and high voice who has an amazing voice and is usually everybody’s favorite lol. Kevin, the only one who didn’t sing a solo in this is the beatboxer, but he is a man of many talents. He can also play the cello which you do see in a few PTX videos to showcase some of his many talents, including cello-boxing where he plays cello and beatboxes at the same time! However, he can sing he is actually a tenor and sounds incredible! Lastly, Avi (white guy with a beard and hat) is the bass and yes he did the lows you heard, with the exception of Scott doing it when Avi has his solo. He is later (2017 I believe) replaced by Matt who is now the current bass and does just as amazing in my opinion. He is different, but amazing! He replaced him when Avi decided to leave the group for personal reasons but it was very peaceful, no drama or anything and everyone still gets along! Avi is the ONLY one who left the group but people sometimes get confused because Mitch and Kirstin change their looks a lot over the years and sometimes look like different people lol! 💙 hope this helps! Hope you do more PTX! I would check out their Evolution Of videos, they have quite a few and I feel like everyone really has a moment to shine in those!
I would say Mitch is the favorite of reactors. But Avi was the fave to the GP. Hence why they have flopped with every release after he left the group. Yes they have had a few top 10 albums after he left. But none of them sold enough to even get a certification. Avi and Scott were my faves in the group.
There’s nothing like really hearing PTX for the first time. And yet, there’s so much to look forward to. I promise you they will take your breath away each time you hear a new song from them. Please do more PTX. You won’t regret it.
Ya'll are beautiful and I love your reaction to this song that I love. It actually makes me cry sometimes when I hear it. You're right, Their harmony is knee-dropping. Beautiful.
Every one of them have exceptional talent in their own division, and somehow they managed to bring it all together and redefined a cappella over the last decade + . If you haven't listened to their version of 'Sound of silence', you are in for another treat.
Mary did you know, Amazing grace beautiful melodies.its a must to close your eyes and listen to it the feeling that goes through out your body is unbelievable.
Their covers of bohemian rhapsody, sound of silence, daft punk, mackelmore, and the original song Love again.. BEYOND amazing.. So worth the listen.. So addicting..
Great reaction. :) Kevin Olusola is a master at beat boxing and percussion and Avi Kaplan(with the beard and beanie) is a basso profundo. Avi was the original bass for PTX and my all time fav. Together Avi and Kevin are magic and were dubbed the "meat and potatoes" of the band way back when they competed in a singing competition called the sing off. The other 3 (the trio) grew up together in Texas. Scott Hoying(the tall blond baritone), Kirsten Maldanado ( the only female and mezzo-soprano) and Mitch Grassi(the tenor extraordinaire). You should watch them perform this live on their Christmas Special 2016. You wont believe it. Its truly amazing. I hope you will do more reactions of this talented group. The fans (Pentaholics) are the best and will support you 100%.
So so glad you two enjoyed this and there’s plenty more from them to come! I have subscribed to your channel with the hope of hearing you react to more Pentatonix. They will blow you away! Try their cover of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody or John Lennon’s Imagine. They kill Christmas music like you’ve never heard it done before, I promise you will be pleasantly surprised ❣️
If they ever come your way on tour DO NOT hesitate to go see them.....they are just as amazing live, I am telling you it is so worth it!! Enjoy going down this VERY deep rabbit hole, they are amazing! My two personal favorites are Sugar Plum Fairy from their Christmas album, and their cover of Daft Punks 'One more time'. Have FUN!!!
When you have a eight octave range in your group - and the ability to keep perfectly in sync it is incredible. I switched from $300 headphones to Audiophile gear (> $3,000) and the difference of this calibre of music on high end gear is jaw dropping! Pentatonix was the group that got me to really up my workstation audio gear! Great review guys :)
Great Reaction!!!! (New Subscriber) Avi Kaplan (Guy with the beard and long hair) is the (Bass), Kevin Olusola is the (Beatboxer), Mitch Grassi is a (Counter Tenor) he can sing a lot of Higher, Kirstie Maldonado (Mezzo-Soprano), & Scott Hoying (Baritone) but he will sing Bass whenever Avi Kaplan (Bass from 2011-2017) or Matt Sallee (Current Bass 2017 to Now) sings. There is a Live of this song also, You should check out their covers of (Mary did you Know), (Amazing Grace; My Chains are gone), (Imagine), & their mashup (New Rules / Are You that Somebody) to hear how Well they Harmonize!!!! And they Won the 3rd Season of (The Sing Off)!!!!
They preformed this live on an NBC Christmas special and it is AMAZING, they are just as good live. The Bass is Avi, he left and was replaced by Matt. I recommend Amazing Grace, you’ll love it!!
Best of all Aca Pella: Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay. All these 3 groups are good friends with each other. Sometimes, each group featured one other from either groups to sing such as Avi is featured with Home Free.
Mitch Grassi is my fav singer of PTX......and i also love Matt's voice, who is with the group now (not in this video). He replaced Avi Kaplan, (pronounced AH-vee) the man with the golden voice and the long hair, who does solo stuff now and is awesome.
Asia...girl...I'm 2 years late, but the way your face lit up listening to them brought joy to my heart. Thank you both so much for reacting to PTX! You received an excellent Mitch Slap! 🙂
This is so perfect, so perfect... their voices blend so perfectly... especially that 2nd bearded dude that does the base, which makes it such a full rich harmony... that u can actually hear imperfections in the recording equipment... it reminds me of a scratch in a vinyl record...cause it comes in regular intervals... modern technology cannot come close to what God given talent achieved here....
Kevin is the primary vocal percussionist but Avi backs him up and does the bass singing and most wind etc. sound effects. Here are a couple of seminars the 2 of them did to demonstrate how they worked together. The complete self confidence without the usual raging egos demanding to be front and center makes this group of extremely talented people successful and Asia nailed the reaction.
Unsuspecting people getting Mitch-slapped - i love it 😂
I live for it!
Yes! One of my most favorite things ever!
Yes one of the main reasons i like wathcching people react to pentatonix so much
Definately one of the best parts of watching a new reactor to Pentatonix!
Yes, and this was a good one! I loved the second take and closer look at the screen!
It why I have the hobby of finding true first time reactors, for that moment.
@@hawkthorn33 Me too!! Love a good Mitch Face!

Totally agree.
their "Mary did you know" honestly brings tears every time lol
Just want to back up your request for Mary did you know!
OMG. This is definitely a great one to request.
Definitely!!!
Yes!! Gives me goosebumps!
Amen, that is such a beautiful song from them.
I have to say, no matter how many times I hear them perform this song, I get close bumps and tears.
Same!!!
Every single time. Their cover of The Little Drummer Boy brings me to tears every.single.time. The words and meaning and beauty comes across when they cover it 💜
YES!
"You have Mitch face" lol. That expression people get on their face the first time they listen to Pentatonix and hear Mitch Grassi hit those incredible high notes.
And Avie with his low notes. 😊👍
@@angelabowman1614 And then when you hear both together. 🥴
I don’t care how many times I hear this song. That harmony at the end brings me to tears EVERY SINGLE TIME!
It does me too! It is so beautiful!

I must give up of youtube because of that
An introduction to Pentatonix for you:
Scott: the tall blonde guy in the middle with the first solo.
She has the least solos of the main 3 that you'll find, but she always kills it when she does sing(examples are Say Something, Sound of Silence, Imagine, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, all of which are among their best work)
Mitch: He's the man with the amazing voice and the final solo in this song.
I came here to say this!! ❤️💚🧡 I love watching newbs react to them!!!!
Thank you so much for giving us such great information on this group, they are simply amazing !
It's a misconstrued notion that Avi helped find Matt. PTX went through an Agency to audition for a bass singer. Matt made it through to the finals group and came well prepared. He learned every PTX song and won the part.
Avi Kaplan has the very deepest smooth voice, and has some great singles of his own.
All past & present members are *exceptional* singers. ‘Wonderful’ & ‘awesome’ music are poor descriptors of their voices - ‘sprit filled’ gets closer to how they make me feel.
The look on Asia's face is priceless 😲😲😱😱😂😂😂😂 that's a Mitch slap
Came for the "Mitch Face" -- was not disappointed. Mitch is a counter tenor with a range from A2 to F6.
oh sh!t my life was missing some Pentatonix !
Thank you for all that info, I knew the basics of the group but not all the details which you clearly know
Yes. Thank you for all info abut this group!! :)
That’s a great summary! Thanks for doing it.
Thanks for that comprehensive background!
Avi is a good bass singer, but not a profundo.
@@lesaahrenstein6360 Kevin is also an amazing saxophone player and has performed both sax and cello on the Carnigie Hall stage. He's just amazing!
Mitch is an incredible counter tenor. They sound amazing together.
This proves that musical instruments are NOT needed to have a concert of epic proportions. ♥️💋
The Mitch face is what brings me to Pentatonix reactions. 🤣
Them and Home Free are my two favorite Acapella. The bass is Avi Kaplan dark haired white guy with beard. He has left group and has a song called Change on the Rise, which is great.
Have you listened to “Straight No Chaser”. Another really good a cappella group that formed at Indiana U.
@@baldandbeardiful7049 No but will check them out
I was just saying a minute ago, it’s amazing that Pentatonix and home free came out of one little NBC television show called the sing off. One of the the best musical competitions ever on and I’m not sure why it never took off.
I know it’s a Christmas song but their rendition of Mary did you know? Goosebumps and tears
The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of:
SCOTT HOYING, male, 6’3”, usually blond, sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead.
Added to “the trio” for the show were:
AVI KAPLAN, male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind.
The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is:
MATT SALLEE, male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair.
They are using autotune now as well as pianos?
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 They use instruments in specific songs, such as Kevin's cello in the cover of "Shallow", and AutoTune on covers where it is required to capture the texture of the original song. But for about 90+% of their music, it's just them.
@@thanosdarkseid8695 I did have one early like but it got lost when I posted an edit. So that may be on me, not them.
@@TexasOutrider right they are not a cappella I got that before but autotune is a step totally beyond. Time to just stop saying it is an a cappella band because it isn't anymore.
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 They very rarely use autotune. They are absolutely a cappella.
Pentatonix artists are a total masterpiece; they've all got special qualities; they take songs & make them their own; it's brillance
Y’all might want to take some snacks with you down this rabbit hole. It goes DEEP!!
I can watch this 20x in a row and Mitch still brings out goosebumps.
Avi with the beard is the brilliant bass with a wide and powerful vocal range❤️❤️
Great reaction definitely want to see you all go on a Pentatonix journey.
Now you should check out PTX doing Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine ... then watch their medleys/evolutions (Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Ariana Grande). And that’s just the starter course. 😀
YES!
a thousand times YES!!!
Don't cry?!? Let it flow! They deserve it! This song brings tears every single time I hear it... and for the last few months is been at least once a day. Solace and peace... that it exactly. Gotta go see if you found the live performance from their Christmas special... it was perfect.
Widely considered to be the best acapella group in the world right now!
❤❤❤Asia's smile says it all😊
❤
The Bass was done by Avi Kaplan (cap and beard). Kevin is the beatboxer in the group. They were on the Sing off season 3 and won it. check out Hallelujah live version. Thanks for reacting
Don’t forget Scott covered bass while Avi sung his solo part
Y’all whooo I even stuck around for that last minute 3/3 non skip ad break. Ooph so good
MUST HEAR THEIR SOUND OF SILENCE COVER!!
Lawd, yes!
Yes the most song ever and important song ever im not a Christian I’m just a believer love this song every time I hear it this song give me so much faith ciaos from Am Samoa with love ciaos peace
their “Daft Punk Medley”, “Havana” cover & “90s Dance Medley” are amazing
Actually, Pentatonix got their start on the NBC prime time show “The Sing Off”.
Great reaction! Pentatonix are masters of A cappella! Avi is the bass! Love your reaction to Mitch!
They were on and won The Sing Off!
Beautiful,,I keep watching these reactions just to hear it again....
Your delighted smile is something else. Been a PTX fan for 10 years and they make me super happy. They are crazy talented, sophisticated, sometimes silly, fun and incredibly creative. They all bring so much to the group. Great reaction. 🤗
Omg, absolutely love this song, beautiful but soo are you girl. Stunning
A brief introduction to Pentatonix:
A five member acapella group formed in 2011.
You need to see more of them, you will be blown away.
That's everyone's favorite part of the song. :) Mitch is an angel.
They were on the Sing Off 2011 or so.
The beatboxer is Kevin Olusola. Check out his solo work (cello, beatbox, sing), especially "Down" on his KOvers.
Home Free. Incredible vocals, body percussion and voice instruments
Their covers of bohemian rhapsody, sound of silence, daft punk, mackelmore, and the original song Love again.. BEYOND amazing.. So worth the listen.. So addicting..
I love when they go up so high and then they bring it down very gracefully
You will also like watching Imagine. The harmony is perfect
Asia got such a great smile and it never stopped during this song :)
I love pentatonix ❤❤❤❤ thanks of France 🇫🇷
One of my favs is Sound of Silence.
I remember when that video first came out. Brought a tear to my eye then, still brings a tear to my eye today.
They are best I could listen to them over and over. Thank you for your nice reaction.
Have FUN!!!
A taste of heaven on earth.
THEY ARE DOING ALL THE SOUNDS. PERFECT.
their cover of a medley of daft punk songs is so good it won them their first grammy
Angelic voices and Mitch slapped is fantastic! Goose bumps!
The bass is white Jesus in the beanie! That's Avi, who actually left the group a few years ago, but is the best bass to ever live!!
AVI is the GOAT!
Powerful, moving and sublime.
Great Reaction!!!! (New Subscriber)
Avi Kaplan (Guy with the beard and long hair) is the (Bass), Kevin Olusola is the (Beatboxer), Mitch Grassi is a (Counter Tenor) he can sing a lot of Higher, Kirstie Maldonado (Mezzo-Soprano), & Scott Hoying (Baritone) but he will sing Bass whenever Avi Kaplan (Bass from 2011-2017) or Matt Sallee (Current Bass 2017 to Now) sings.
🥰 **This song, & their voices, gives me so many goosebumps, if possible, I feel them in my eyelashes** 🥰
They preformed this live on an NBC Christmas special and it is AMAZING, they are just as good live. The Bass is Avi, he left and was replaced by Matt. I recommend Amazing Grace, you’ll love it!!
Beautiful! WOW! No more words!
Best of all Aca Pella: Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay. All these 3 groups are good friends with each other. Sometimes, each group featured one other from either groups to sing such as Avi is featured with Home Free.
Absolutely beautiful song and Harmony 😍
Mitch Grassi is my fav singer of PTX......and i also love Matt's voice, who is with the group now (not in this video). He replaced Avi Kaplan, (pronounced AH-vee) the man with the golden voice and the long hair, who does solo stuff now and is awesome.
Asia...girl...I'm 2 years late, but the way your face lit up listening to them brought joy to my heart. Thank you both so much for reacting to PTX! You received an excellent Mitch Slap! 🙂
They were on either America’s Got Talent or X factor as guest artists during a Christmas special but never as competitors.
They were on the Sing Off and won as competitors in 2011.
@@LisaMT1218 but I don’t think they watched that. They couldn’t have overlooked that all the competitors were a cappella groups.
The were on AGT for a Christmas Special and Simon said he was a huge fan of them and loved what they do.
Great reaction guys. Loved the smiles you got. Pentatonix is awesome.
In the most respectful way possible she is absolutely beautiful
They just release amazing grace around Christmas time that is the one to watch.
Instantly like you guys because you both listened without constant interruptions every 10 seconds. Awsome.
love all their voices
Bless you beautiful people. Thank you for the joy you have❤
This is so perfect, so perfect... their voices blend so perfectly... especially that 2nd bearded dude that does the base, which makes it such a full rich harmony... that u can actually hear imperfections in the recording equipment... it reminds me of a scratch in a vinyl record...cause it comes in regular intervals... modern technology cannot come close to what God given talent achieved here....
I've been binge watching reactions to this song for two days n I cry every damn time
We play this and a few other of their songs every time we set up the Christmas Tree.
It’s so good, so calming.
My first time on your channel and I enjoyed you both very much. Pentatonix is heavenly and the harmonizing is perfection. Thank you!
They are truly amazing, like home free.
The one with the beard does the beat box sounds. They mesh very well and harmonize incredibly well. With all there songs.
Kevin is the primary vocal percussionist but Avi backs him up and does the bass singing and most wind etc. sound effects.
Here are a couple of seminars the 2 of them did to demonstrate how they worked together.

Aloha greatest song ever wrote by Leonard Cohen this is the song of all songs ciaos
The complete self confidence without the usual raging egos demanding to be front and center makes this group of extremely talented people successful and Asia nailed the reaction.
Mitch is a counter tenor. He has an amazing range and is so clear in his diction, that everything he sings becomes magical! SIGH!😍😍😍
actually the heavy base was the long hair guy with the beard(AVI), the blond guy (Scott) sings bass when the bass is singing
