Great video. It's crazy that these cars are becoming 'classic cars' for the younger generation and are now getting pulled out of 'barn' find situations. Seems like yesterday I was drooling over EVOs and STIs right after graduating from college in 2010 and just starting work. (I made the more financially responsible decision of a used 2007 Civic SI at the time and always had buyers remorse because it wasn't fast or cool enough for me).
2015 Evo MR here. Kozmic built my trans in 2020. Full rebuild kit including fork fix, all new seals, 12 disc drag clutches, $6k. Hits harder than a GTR. Those guys know what they're doing.
@Mannystrife Yes. I had the trans shipped to them while English Racing built my engine (I'm in WA). Took 3 weeks for them to do the work (including their in-house testing). They shipped it back with fluids ready to drop in. No issues whatsoever.
I also recently purchased a badly neglected 2010 Ralliart Sportback with an EVO turbo and intercooler swap, along with other upgrades (intake, exhaust, motor mounts, etc) with 137,000 miles. My SST was bad when I bought it, but I managed to get it rolling swapping a used valve body in. It is still throwing speed sensor codes and needs a rebuild though. I think my next move is to possibly get another used working SST so I can pull mine and ATTEMPT to rebuild it in my own sweet time but still have the car mobile. It has its share of issues still (turbo oil leaks) and the paint isn't great either (dings, dents, bad clear coat,, but is rust free, builds 26 psi of boost, and is a riot to drive. Crazy capable car for the little bit of money I'm into it so far :)
That's super cool! If you need a sst transmission that what I believe was wrong with is was only the center differential let me know! Maybe you can buy mines and just put your center diff in. besides that so far this car is awesome man congrats on the find!
I have a friend that rebuilds them way cheaper than Kozmic/Jacks. I have used 2 of his transmissions already (1 for my evo, 1 for my ralliart). He sells them If i remember correctly for 3.2k and if you provide the core it's cheaper. (he also provides the fluid)
All the best with this! really interested to see how things turn out. If you plan on keeping it, id say save the current transmission from the car in case the other one you plan to swap in goes. The exhaust manifold on the outside engine looks alright.. which is a miracle!
Great video I subscribed, I had a 2010 Evo X MR from 2014-2019. I sold it before the transmission gave way. I’m in the market now for a Evo X GSR cause prices have come down a bit in Australia.
I feel bad that you bought a MR man hopefully you knew what you were getting into. GSR is definitely the way to go if you’re going to buy another Evo X in the future
I also thought about man swaping mine but from what i heard manual conversion is not worth the money and alot of time unless you plan to keep the car basically forever. Easier to sell and get a gsr. Rebuild will be best bet. Yeah 8k but its definitely worth the cost imo. But keep up the good work man. Definitely keen on what's to come. Warching from Australia 🙂
It’s a ton of money and here in the states the GSR transmissions are hard to find but also expensive and very annoying to do the swap! If I was keeping the car then maybe I would consider it but I’m trying to build the perfect daily and auto would be the perfect daily 🤣

Not sure what your plans are with the new motor but when my friend had to get a new 4b11 he was having a hard time getting his ECU to talk with the new motor.. something with the Mitsubishi security. I'll ask him what he did to fix that but maybe someone here could clarify

Might be a good idea to stick a camera down in that cylinder that has rust to see if it made into the cylinder. That could be very bad if unchecked.

Do not send it to jacks…send it to kosmic in Texas…jacks will mess it up more than fix it
