    I had the privilege of being his friend for more than 20 years. One of my early conversations with him was obviously about music and i asked him how did he feel about being called "The father of Thrash Metal" He said: "If you listen close and pay attention to the music you´ll understand it´s Rock and Roll and not Metal." I was shocked, he passes a beer and goes "Seriously, my music comes directly from Elvis". That was quite a mind opener and the begginng of many many stories... RIP brother

      I hope you heard how Lemmy got started? My friend used to be DJ in the pubs and clubs in Blackpool, Lancs. he badgered the Landlord, to let this new Rock band play, luckily, it happened, and that's how Motorhead was born...Nowadays, at the Waterloo Hotel they still have bands doing gigs there..Best watch out!!

    • @livedandletdie
      @livedandletdie 4 года назад +20

      I don't consider Motörhead as a metal band either, It's Rock N Roll. It's not remotely metal sounding. There's a difference, You start of with Jazz, then you got Blues, then you got Rock then you got Rock N Roll, Hard Rock and then Metal, I still don't consider Iron Maiden, or Metallica either as Metal, more like Hard Rock. I don't consider Evanescence metal either because it's a fucking Hard Rock/Rock Opera band.

      The Major only reason why people say he is metal, is because the tamest pop bands with drums are considered rock. He even said in a documentary that “nowadays, Britney Spears is considered to be pop. She is getting fat though”. It’s rock, and it’s what the band says it is.

    The first time I heard this was when Motorhead played a live track in the middle of a UK comedy progamme back in the early 1980's. This was a mainstream BBC late night comedy about 4 students, but in the middle of each episode they had a live band play. So 10 yr old me had been allowed to sit up late and watch this (as everyone at school wanted to talk about the Young Ones' the following morning), when all of a sudden THIS came on. "The Dead Man's Hand" is referring to hand acquired during five-card-draw (can also be held/acquired playing hold 'em) consisting souly of aces and eights to make a "full house".
    It's called "The Dead Man's Hand" in homage to "Wild" Bill Hickok who was shot in the back of the head while playing a game of five-card-draw. Purportedly the cards he was holding were the ace of spades, ace of diamonds, eight of clubs, eight of hearts and eight of diamonds.

    I always saw a take on life in those lyrics:
    "You win some, you lose some it's all the same to me" Doesn't mather what you do, you'll have some good times and bad times might as well just roll with it
    "The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say" Enjoy your life while you can, not only the result but the journey.
    Like don't be afraid of taking risks you only have one life and you're gonna have bad times any way.
    Also you probably know that by know but Lemmy was the baddest ass in metal. Always with a cigarette, could drink a whole bottle of whiskey and walk, eating steaks bigger than my ass. Microphone always placed so he keeps his head high while siging.

    It feels to me like you missed the point of this song, because of the oversimplified paragraph of research you quoted at the beginning. Lemmy isn't just talking about gambling. He applies the same IDGAF attitude to everything he does, and that's the point he's making by using his gambling analogies. If you don't know much about Lemmy, I suggest you research just him--the man was a Legend with a capital L. There's a reason they say "Lemmy is God".

    There was no one like Motorhead. I am so glad I was able to take my son to his first, but unfortunately, only Motorhead show in 2012. He bought us VIP passes and we got to have a quick chat with Mikkey Dee and watch the soundcheck. Motorhead was the band that got my son into loving music. He asked me if I had any Motorhead he could listen to so I gave him No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. 45 minutes later, he came rushing downstairs, all excited saying he knows what he wants to do, he wants to be in a band. He was 11/12 years old at the time. That's the power of great music. An album released years before he was born had such an impact on him. R.I.P. Motorhead, thanks to everyone who was a member of Motorhead for the great music.
