    Shawna's candor is refreshing. I also recently came to the conclusion, reviewing all my Poshmark purchases since 2020, that 9 times out of 10 the deals aren't worth it. It's better than splurging at a designer boutique, but it's still mostly a waste of money and closet space. Once I admitted that to myself, I got better about abandoning my cart.

    • @shawnaripari
      @shawnaripari  Год назад +1

      I totally agree!! Poshmark is good if you know your size in a specific brand and are looking for something specific. I bought these floral Keds that are super special and were limited edition. My only 2023 posh purchase was astyle of pant I wanted from everlane and i already knew my size. Barring those exceptions, it a typically not a good idea. I knew that at the time as well. It really wasn't about the stuff

    I relate so much to spending too much time thinking about, searching and finding clothes (aka obsessing). I hate that even more than the money spent. Because I stay within my budget.

    • @shawnaripari
      @shawnaripari  Год назад +1

      Yes, obsessing over every purchase can be a real time-suck. I didn't have that money to burn last year, so it's not like the money didn't matter. My obsessing was just a way to validate bad purchases

    I’ve bought $150 of makeup in 1 go off Reddit and $250 on Mercari once for sold out hyped stuff. It’s not really worth it. Sure the bundle deals were deep discounts overall but it was definitely some unchecked hype goblin in me that was taking over instead of me from 2 months later that thought those products were definitely nice but overwhelming to all bring in at the same time, and I want to declutter 75% of them anyway now 2 years later. It’s like… I want to return products I get to try on in Sephora 40ish% of the time, and for online stuff it’s even higher because it’s impossible to see things the same way. I shouldn’t buy online on the most part especially if there’s no return policy.

    Ah so relatable. I completed a no buy year last year but had a small clothing budget for needed items, and I have already decluttered probably half of what I purchased in 2022. I did find some great jeans which I desperately needed, but notably I purchased a pair of hiking boots in like February 2022 for whatever reason and I still have them but have never even tried them on. I also purchased a pair of new sneakers for the gym, which I similarly kept in their box without trying on until two weeks ago. Finally tried them on and I hate them 😂 by the final quarter of the year I was basically purchasing nothing and continued that way until end of March this year when I started a crazy spending spree that continued until early May. Still reeling from that because it was so recent. I do still stand behind most of what I bought as good purchases for me (though we’ll see how that holds up in about 6 months’ time), but I bought it all so quickly and got carried away with the high of finally allowing myself to purchase new things. Needless to say, I blew my budget out of the water.

      I feel so called out here. 😅 i was trying to do a low buy this year. Budget was supposed to be $500 for the year solely on clothes shopping. Needless to say, I’ve failed already 🥺 I just love thrifting too much. It brings me joy & it’s like therapy.
      I do understand i have enough but I’m always thinking about the hidden gems I can possibly find 😩
      I catch myself falling into spending sprees. I didn’t realize I was experiencing FOMO until I watched another creator mention it. I also realized it’s almost an obsessive tendency.
      Anyways, I start therapy next month 😅
      P.s i was keeping track of all my purchases in a spread sheet. I don’t even want to make the calculations of what I’ve bought over budget.🫣

I've been trying to eat healthy lately but I think I will allow myself to snack more until my deadline. At least snacks are cheaper than makeup and clothes.

    Also, I soooo remember when you got locked in on the corset idea! I vaguely remember leaving a comment trying to gently discourage you from going there-boy, that’s relatable too! @@shawnaripari here’s hoping you’ll remember the corset the next time a particularly enticing trend piece crosses your path! 😅 I do wonder about the psychology of trends, how we get mentally converted into thinking we like something through mere repetition-if you see corsets or whatever it is so many times on your feed that you start to think, Oh yeah, I definitely need that! I think I heard someone give the advice of questioning whether you would actually wear that fit, or if you just think the person wearing it looks good in it or that the picture itself is just aesthetically pleasing 🤷🏻‍♀️

    This no return policy thing is why I only buy things on Poshmark or Mercari that’s a duplicate of something I already own, like the same sweatshirt in a different color or my same worn out sneakers that I need to replace. Especially if it’s long been discontinued, cause ya girl ain’t got time to go into a comparison shopping trance between all the retailers and brands for the new worse quality stuff, I would rather repurchase discontinued clothes sometimes.
