In this video we will see how we can create a low poly model of a fern plant that we can later use in a game engine.

Really happy to see you tackle some organic modeling. So far my only experience is in hard surface, and I would love to give this a shot.

That was a great tutorial, thanks a lot. Can you please tell me what render are using for this fern in 3ds max? I tried corona, but couldn't get this opacity map work in render (it was working ok in default shading in the viewport).

I want to thank you for this video! i model my plants with sketchup and i have tried your method, and its work! i use vertex tool and lock UV as you shown , then drive my vertices as i want! one question: i have think about using vertex paint, so i think use the translucency map and make such a gradient for the leave texture, lets say darker at the base and brighter on top, not using a solid green color but just playing with the leave texture, did you think that can this replace the result of the vertex color? thank you! if not, can you point me how to have this result in sketchup? i want to use my plant in twin motion in the end, that's why i want to have them in lowpoly!

No idea how Sketchup deals with this to be honest

Actually wanted to drop you a line if you could show us some foliage modeling... cuz i rlly dont know where to get good textures for them FREE and model them out.

How about the opacity map can you show us how you did that too?

    • @DenisKeman

I showed that in the start of the video. You can either download an alpha map or get the map from Megascans where you get all the maps that go with it
