Replay 2019 is here! With more years comes more games and I took into account many of the criticisms on the first Replay in this one to bring some of the most influential games one year at a time to best represent the history of gaming since it's birth in 1972. Thank you so much for watching! If you can believe it, the ENTIRE medley has FULL TABS that are available to my Silver Level Patreon Supporters! Thank you so much for your support! They make it possible for me to make videos like this one! ❤
Kirby and Doomslayer are of equal power. Doomslayer has slaughtered hell of all of it's demons and other monsters as well as the LITERAL Icon of Sin on numerous occasions, and Kirby is the reincarnated version of a literal god which can destroy whatever it comes across with ease, especially people who even indirectly fuck with his lunch.
Let me just point out that this probably took a LONG time. He had to learn the songs on guitar (lead, rythm, and harmony) let alone make up some/most of the tabs if not all, he had to program decent sounding drums that had a good flow and that are unique to a section, he had to write and play the bass lines which were sometimes completely unique to themselves, and edit it all together with footage of him playing it and background footage of each respective game AND get it all mixed and mastered well. And he did this video twice now. That is some mad respect and dedication.
Yup. In addition, translating this kind of music into a metal style while retaining the feel of the original is not as straighforward as it may seem. Him standing there playing these songs may be the focus of the video but it's by far the easiest part of what he's done here.
The only complaint I have is the choice of songs; yes, one per year seems like a good idea to avoid favoring different time periods, but if you're (a) skipping Guile's theme because of it (b) doing the main Final Fantasy Theme rather than, say, the much more iconic level-up theme (followed by Wily 1 and Moon Theme) and (c) choosing Overwatch ahead of Mario Odyssey, then there's room for criticism. Then again, any selection of songs is guaranteed to piss off at least one person, so I'm not going to complain too heavily on that.
My Dad played the very first legend of Zelda all night every night when it first came out, he was blown away when he first played ocarina of time and Majora’s Mask, he didn’t really like twilight princess, and he never played breath of the wild so I thought he lost interest in legend of Zelda games. Then I bought smash ultimate (which he says he doesn’t like but still plays it and laughs every time hypocrite) first match we ever played he picks young Link and whoops me and my kid brother’s asses and said “Link and I still got it”
I know a lot of people in the Smash community don't really care much for Brawl but it absolutely has the best theme song in the series. The Brawl theme is at 13:45 btw.

Ngl even though this is still impressive he went with a one song per franchise strategy and the Mario franchise is too large for him to do that. I still give him props for this video.
Seeing it all written out in front of me, it's kinda cool how you can see the evolution of videogame music. It used to just be the games music, then we got to the point where stages have their own themes, and now games have their own entire soundtracks with named songs
Let it be known that the algorithm did everything but one thing right about presenting me with this video: It showed to me way too late, this is amazing
This is a like a bohemian rhapsody for nerds and I love it Edit: that devil trigger duet between you and Adriana was sick, you should do a full version sometime
Man, having listened to the first Replay so many times, it does throw me off hearing new songs in between the old ones. Better listen to this one over and over to get rid of that feeling, I suppose.
Step 1: Create a list with songs and make sure that the song will make sense Step 2: Find gameplays in high quality Step 3: Download them all Step 4 Have all the instruments needed Step 5 Know how to play them Step 6 Have a Video Editor program Step 7 Have an audio mixer, audio sequencer, or something that you mix audio Step 8: Know how to use them Step 9: Memorize your own created songs so them you'll be able to record yourself playing all the instruments Step 10: Put all of these steps together and make this video shit well done!
Me at the start: for once I'm going to listen to the whole song before I like *Pokemon to Castlevania transition happens* Time to smash that like button I guess
There's a reason the first Replay was one of your most-watched videos - it's a major nostalgia trip, and this second version does it better. It's sad that it took me this long to realise there was a second, but . . . the last few years have been rough. If you make another Replay in 2024, I don't know how you'll improve it, but you'll find a way. You've come a long way in the last decade, and you already had a great starting point.
@@raventael9775 Of course, but I was trying to say there was something... _extra_ special, like the result of putting the two together was more than the sum of the parts
@@CalaCrisp88 Oh sorry I misread you haha, I totally agree with your point tho! There's something really special about a metal interpretation of music that is this calm
Personally I think it looses a touch of the original song through a metal cover. I would have preferred to have heard an acoustic rendition as it would more closely align with Minecraft's relaxing, quiet ambient music. It would also be a nice break from pounding metal riffs. Obviously it has been done this way for reasons but still, I would think it would have been nice in my opinion, each to their own.
Arguably the best E1M1 cover to date. Hope you have a full version available? Edit: Heck, what I said applies to every single game represented in this video.
I gotta say, when I saw you grab the mic for Devil Trigger I was like "Oh my god yes!" cause I remember back when you refused to sing, I believe you said once that your singing wasn't good, but I think you showed in Otherworld when you did the clean vocals... that yes, you can fucking sing! Happy New Year dude! May 2020 bring us more games with amazing soundtracks for you to make into awesome Metal covers!
That knight is not a bad one just a knight who's order had been lost, a knight who is doing everything she can to make who once powerful organization great. In the end you can help her keep the teachings throught the hallway of time
Well, you certainly did DOOM correctly. Those tapped parts are crazy fast. Morrowind was good, too even though you altered one chord in the middle. :) Nice job! This was some edit job cutting all that together.
You were my most listened to artist in Spotify for 2019. I must have listened to your Octopath Covers for at least 30k minutes, they were amazing. Finding your channel was a great experience, I hope you keep doing great work.
1) Doom's song sounds like Painkiller from Judas Priest. 2) Chrono Trigger's song gave me chills, damn I love that game, IMO second best game ever made after Final Fantasy VI. If I ever become rich I would fund the remake myself so SquareEnix can take the risk without worrying about Financials or anything. 3) Zelda's theme is effing epic. 4) Castlevania Symphony of the Night has by far one of the greatest soundtracks ever made. 5) Great video bro, filled me with nostalgia in the best possible way. Love ya and saludos from Spain!
Doom's song is actually primal concrete sledge by pantera, they had to alter the music in various ports of the game due to copyright violations. There's other songs in doom too, like alice in chains them bones, and others i don't remember off the top of my head
The madlad. He did it again. Honestly, for years I've said things like "games these days don't have the soundtracks that the old ones did" and to some extent I still agree with that. Hardware restrictions forced a lot of the old school composers to go out of their way to make something memorable rather than whatever just kind of fits the game, as is commonplace today. ...That said, it was when Jules got to the 2010s in this video that I got hyped as fuck. Almost all of the games/songs from the 2010s are ones I'd have personally picked and that was tight Seeing Adri show up was also always nice
Yeah he did a good job picking the best and/or most iconic songs of the 2010s. And I'm not just saying that because he included Xenoblade, although that is a HUGE plus for me
Every single segment of this video is good enough to warrant a full cover, you play the guitar with such energy and obvious passion that even me, somebody who knows jack shit about music theory and has never touched an instrument in his life can tell that your skills are an absolute cut above the rest
I kind of always thought gamers and metal heads were one in the same. Just my thing that I noticed Vince most of my friends are metal heads and play hella video games.
I was actually wondering if you’d do another replay video just the other day The original was the video that got me subscribed to you in the first place Keep rockin, man.
My favorite part about watching this over and over again is just how happy that man looks with each and every song. I can't imagine how much work this took doing twice, not just once but twice.
Fun fact: What most people consider as "the Tetris theme" actually originated from the Game boy version, not the NES version. This seems to suprise most people I tell this to.
The "Tetris theme" is a 19th century song called Korobeiniki and the first Tetris games to use the song were released on the Apple IIGs and MAC computers by spectrum holobyte.
@@kyleh1127 But that was also different textures compared to the official Nintendo release, the one you are thinking of is the illegal Tengen Tetris that was made in very small production, and is more expensive than standard Tetris. The first console release on Gameboy was when it got extremely popular, and Korobeiniki is altered quite a bit on Gameboy, and Tengen Tetris actually lacks the famous Tetris theme found on Gameboy.
@@kyleh1127 that is quite impossible. The original gameboy tetris released with the system of april 1989. The NES version released in november of 1989. You couldnt have had the offical version before the gameboy came out.
The two times you've covered Living Mice from Minecraft have both been really good, this one was just even more incredible. I'd love to see more Minecraft covers because you adapt them so well. I also absolutely loved the Ducktales moon theme here, and Megaman. Something cool might be a Contra soundtrack medley or something.
I really liked this video. Amazing job, you kept me very intrigued for what videogame was going to represent each year. Still there are some games that I feel should have been in here someway: - Street Fighter II - Galaga - Qbert - Space Harrier - Banjo n Kazooie - Outrun - Mortal Kombat - Donkey Kong Country - Ninja Gaiden - After Burner Maybe Angry Birds or Plants vs. Zombies should be in here too, however, please don't include Fortnite.
I feel it best to make this public, as I don't want to be solely responsible for figuring this all out. This medley has Easter Eggs hidden beneath ten of the songs in it. Jules brought this up in his fifth and final stream celebrating ten years of him doing RUclips and revealed five of them. Now, that was in July of last year and still no one has found them all, to my knowledge. So, as I've been searching for these hidden songs, I want others to contribute. Here are the songs I know of. 1 - Tetris has Marble Madness' main theme hidden in the B section. Jules revealed this one on stream. 2 - The Legend of Zelda has Metroid's Brinstar theme hidden in the repeat of the main phrase. Also revealed by Jules on stream. 3 - Final Fantasy has Punch-Out's fight theme hidden beneath the second to last chord (it's in the Rhythm Guitars). Revealed by Jules. 4 - Sonic the Hedgehog has Guile's Theme hidden just before the B section. Revealed by Jules. 5 - Doom has the Corneria theme from Star Fox hidden beneath some of the passes of the main riff, an example being 6:18. Revealed by Jules. 6 - Earthbound has Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong Country hidden in the first half of the song. I found this one myself. 7 - Morrowind has the main theme from Battlefield 1942 hidden in the leads, right at the end of it's section. I found this one. 8 - Fire Emblem: Awakening has the main theme from The Last of Us hidden in the background at 16:33. I found this one. This is all I know of so far, and there are four more songs to find. Something to keep in mind, I'm pretty confident that the Tetris Easter Egg is the first one to appear chronologically, and there are no other Easter Eggs before it. I'm also not posting this comment for likes or clout or anything, I just want to find the hidden songs in this amazing medley. The fact Jules included a scavenger hunt in one of, if not, his best works is fantastic. EDIT #1: I am almost 100% certain that one of the eggs is in Minecraft at 14:31. The only reason I believe this is because there is a melody in the background that I KNOW after repeated listening to Living Mice is not in the original song. The only problem is that I don't know what game its from. There's also a chance I'm dead wrong and there isn't anything hidden in there. Food for thought though. EDIT #2: Holy crap Jules, how did you expect anyone to find this one? I discovered that the theme from The Last of Us is positively buried in the background of Fire Emblem: Awakening. It's EXTREMELY subtle, and to be honest I used the Tabs that Jules released to find it. It's SUPER subtle, but it is hidden there. If you find something, reply to this comment, and I'll add it to the list and credit you with finding it. Like I said, I don't want to be the only one responsible for finding all the Easter Eggs in this. I'm a pretty casual gamer, so I wouldn't be able to find all of them myself, not knowing a lot of the games from each year very well. So, have at it! I'll also be searching. I really hope all these songs are found.
Spy Hunter honestly suprised me. I was searching for that song for like 10 years, i always had it in my head, never knew it, and now i know because of this. Thank you.
I am one of the people that listen to the 2014 one almost daily as it does great for background noise while I am working, now that I just happened to get to this improved version I can only say job well done dude, it really is a trip down memory lane. Keep up the good work, this and the Megaman X medley are awesome.

Cause metal is good.

OMG I was absolutely SHOOK at Devil Trigger! Great Job Jules! This must've been a MASSIVE undertaking!
Almost all of the games/songs from the 2010s are ones I'd have personally picked and that was tight
Seeing Adri show up was also always nice
Yeah he did a good job picking the best and/or most iconic songs of the 2010s. And I'm not just saying that because he included Xenoblade, although that is a HUGE plus for me
Every single segment of this video is good enough to warrant a full cover, you play the guitar with such energy and obvious passion that even me, somebody who knows jack shit about music theory and has never touched an instrument in his life can tell that your skills are an absolute cut above the rest

It's July, 2022 and this still is the best video on the RUclips platform yet.
Aside from the song already existing before video games were invented, it was on the nes version before game boy even was released.
@@airplane6417 untrue. I owned an official tetris cartridge before the gameboy was even released.
@@kyleh1127 that is quite impossible. The original gameboy tetris released with the system of april 1989. The NES version released in november of 1989. You couldnt have had the offical version before the gameboy came out.

Does 9:14 dip into GoldenEye? I've never played Silent Hill, so all I heard was GoldenEye the first time around!
That's in the original song, I'm pretty sure. The Golden Eye N64 also game came out in 97 where Silent Hill came out in 99.
It's amazing how so much of this sounds just like Dream Theater.
I think he's still playing the Ernie Ball John Pettrucci model ... Maybe that's why ... Or your being sarcastic and it went over my head lol
