There is a dentist here in Boston called Kangaroo Smiles.. They are so wonderful with children on the spectrum. I just wanted to say thank you to them..

At my dentist you can request a puppy named milo for your kid and the puppy will help calm the child down.

My son has always had issues with sensory and brushing. I finally found a dentist that understood the issues and came up with a game plan. He brushes regularly now
Dental Hygienist for forty years. I had kids everywhere on the spectrum. Once you figure each kid out they can do well.And not just kids, I had one adult that had an empty water bottle that he had to hold and make noise with it through the entire appointment.
My little brother has autism and he can't speak so only his own language that nobody understands 😢And he gets people to tickle his hands he's the best little brother I could ever ask for ❤

Has he always asked for sensory input because I’m a 20-year-old with autism and I need to schedule a dentist appointment but we recently moved and it’s a completely new dentist not the one I’ve been seeing since I got my teeth in, so I’m kind of nervous and they definitely need to have more doctors offices and dentists that center around people with autism and special-needs and developmental disabilities. I think it’s great that he did so good.

You are so very lucky that he tolerates the dentist so well. My five-year-old does not do well at the dentist at all. They have to put him to sleep in order to even do an exam.

We took our ASD son four times a year to get comfortable. Now at age 19 he loves going.
I'm glad i wasn't badly affected by my autism when i was a kid (back around 1980) when it came to the dentist and doctor. I'm also glad to see kids now being helped by our better understanding of how to help those on the spectrum.
Hi there’s a place called lakeside dental it’s all inclusive and they do dental care for all types of disabilities, it’s accessible, ans they’ll pretty much do anything to make your kiddo comfortable they even have a prize system!

Both of my brothers have autism and we usually bring something for them to play with like an iPad or a switch- but some kind of fidget or cool glasses to use while sitting is a great way to keep them calm, letting them pick things like tooth polish flavors, or what toothbrush they want or if they want the top or bottom of their mouths first is also a great way to keep them feeling in control. From an autistic adult I just wanted to say same Sawyer, I struggle with the dentist too. Something that helps me is either a weighted lap blanket or my weighted stuffed animal.

I'm also autistic. I had a dentist appointment recently so well. I absolutely hate the feeling of the toothbrush and the polish, but I've gone here all my life. So overtime I get the same person, I use the same flavor, they put me in a back room so I never have to deal with people behind me, the same person I get knows when something is too much and when I need a break, and even though I'm much older I always get 4 coins even if a meltdown happens as long as I wasn't trying to be rude or mean or bad on purpose. I also bring music so I have a distraction and controlled sensory input.

my best friend's son has autism and ADHD. Her husband is so horrible to their son. He yells at him, slams his fist on the table in front of him, punishes him for no good reason and treats the tablet like a reward instead of the coping skill it is. I'm so glad there are parents like you out there because your kids deserve a good parent, not the horrible parent that my best friend's husband is. I may have to stop being friends with her because it's so hard to watch.
it is fun how 0 degress F gets u out of school in the UK it was once -20 and we had to go to school and have proper break time

Goooood job boy. I had a foster child with autism and TERRIFIED of dentist. I helped with making visits more copable by taking him every 3 months just to be exposed to environment, having dentist looking in his mouth etc and then of course making sure his mouth hygiene was done daily and properly to eliminate cavities which could lead to melt down at dentist - jip this was bad at first he bit the dentist - slowly slowly overcoming as best he could given autism

Okay so I may sound like a child which im only 16 but besides the point I loved getting toys out of those machines it was so fun for me but at 13 they stopped giving coins to the older kids and all I wanted was the stupid toy out of the machine but I could never get one after 13 years old
