- I've got a single malt scotch whisky from the Ardnamurchan distillery in the western Highlands today. This is the Cask Strength AD/09.22 release. A cask strength release from one of my favourite brands? Sounds interesting....

“Some of my best friends are fat and oily” 😂
Thanks for another great review Geoff. Very informative and highly humorous as always. 👍👏
Thanks for watching! 🥃
Two things: one thank you for the review and thank you for the Yummies in my tummies line. Next month I have to give a speech to a room full of wealth advisors, and I’m trying to figure out a way to incorporate Yummies in my tummies in my conclusion.
You can't. I've copyrighted it and I'll sue. 😉
Would love to see that Ardnamurchan rundown! Currently deciding which bottle I should order….
Visited the distillery recently. A highlight of my trip. One of the most remote and wild places I’ve ever been. My friend and I were the only people on the tour. Highly recommend it if you have the motivation to travel to the edge of nowhere.
This would be one distillery I'd absolutely love to see. Glad you enjoyed it! 🥃
This is great stuff!!! I will probably by one more bottle. And one thing, it takes water very well, it's nice to sit with a dram and experiment with water, it changes every time one ads a couple of drops, so one can sit quite a while with one dram.
Agree! Water plays very nicely with this one. 🥃
I haven't had a chance to try this distillery. Thus I will buy one of these
Thanks for the review. Very interesting as always. Cheers
Definitely a brand worth looking into. I suspect you'll enjoy them! 🥃
This is indeed a wonderful whisky. Really looking forward to an Ardnamurchan 10/12 yo in the future 👍
Agree. Their aged stuff will likely be spectacular. Cheers! 🥃
I believe this whisky is only 6 years old. Might have some 8 year old in there too. It’s so good already I wonder if the sweet spot will be in that 10/12 year range.
@@utoobia That's correct. 6ish years. 🥃
Loving your ‘style’, eccentric, without being silly. This whisky is $150 (ish) in Australia (we are violated from behind on pricing down here). That said I love it, having a couple of backup bottles, and live with the reality of our pricing landscape.
Damn. AUD $120 here. Both Australia and Canada seem like great places to not get into whisky... 😬
Damnit, have had my eyes on this destillery for a while. Now i must buy this...
Really enjoy the channel mate another great review thanks very much ... Havent tried any Ardna will have check it out
Thanks for watching, Justin. Appreciate the kind words. Ardnamurchan is definitely a brand to check out. Cheers! 🥃
Looking forward to opening my bottle after your glowing review. BTW the picture of a custard apple in your video is actually a soursop.
I'm sure you'll love it! 🥃
Are you sure? Looks like a custard apple to me...
Great review Geoff! The only Ardnamurchan I’ve managed to get my hands in is the standard AD/ and it made me an instant fan. I’ll pickup any Ardnamurchan I see.
The original AD/ releases are what sold me, too, back when they had the dates. I've been hooked ever since. Definitely a brand worth exploring more! 🥃
Glad you liked it Geoff, I bought a back up after first dram of original purchase 🙂
Smart move! 🥃
Just got a bottle and I completely agree 👍 thanks Geoff! Ciao ✋ S.
What’s to say. This stuff is bloody brilliant.
Yes!
Look forward to the run down! Not been able to get all of those bottles you have but have had 02.22 CS, 04 21 and have open Sherry Cask...
Already a solid (and varied) selection of Ardnas! 🥃
Fantastic stuff Goeff. Bottle of Ardnamurchan? Please come in 😁. This 5 bottles line up looks...yummy. cant wait to watch them H2H. Unfortunately havent had pleasure to try Madeira one and Paul Launois so im curious how them taste but i know both are belters. 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
Total belters. Be on the lookout for them... some of the brand's finest! 🥃
Alright, you've sold me! This is going on the list of whiskies to buy ASAP
Nice! 🥃
Nice review and recollection comparison to the previous cask strength.
Cheers 🥃
Thanks buddy! I know you've looked at the 02.22. Can we expect a review of this one coming down the pipeline? 🥃
@@Gwhisky haven’t seen it yet but definitely will grab one if it comes my way.
Would love to see your rundown video of the different bottles of Ardnamurchan. Their spirit does a fantastic job in so many different casks; Bourbon, Madeira, Oloroso and PX. And allready tasty at such a young age. Their Sherry Cask release this year is only 4 years😲. And stunningly good! But what really blew my socks of this year was the Paul Lanois 2023, their 3rd release of this type. That is really something else. My god, it was the first time I tasted a whisky of Ardnamurchan on Paul Lanois casks and it brougt me to heaven😍 Never tasted anyting like it...
I've got that bottle on the go and I can concur. Incredible whisky! 🥃
This and the regular AD/ release are the only Ardnamurchan expressions available in Bulgaria. I've seen some tasting announcements including Madeira Cask and some single cask releases, but I assume they have been imported in extremely low quantities (several bottles if not a single bottle each) and have ended in special bars, tasting events and private collections. Anyway, needless to say I secured a bottle of both AD/ and AD/09.22. So far I have opened the AD/ bottle and had a brief taste of it. Absolutely gorgeous whisky!
In Bulgaria the AD/09.22 is priced at roughly 74-75 USD/68.50 EUR and the regular AD/ is roughly 57-58 USD/53 EUR. Kinda steep, but still fair for me. The quality is outstanding and if they keep the prices as the whisky gets older I have to reasons to complain.
Cheers!
Yeah I think those are pretty standard prices across the board. They could be cheaper, but considering the quality, like you, I'm ok with them. As you said... beautiful whiskies. Cheers! 🥃
Yeah, I've got my bottle in Sofia, wonderful expression. Also found some nice Glenallachie single cask expressive for Bulgaria market. Greetings from a neighbor from Serbia.
It is on my radar and I have the AD on order. I'm looking forward to, lets see :)
Hope you enjoy! 🥃
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Ardnamurchan, Geoff.
Have tried several expressions from Ardnamurchan and most of them are at least decent, the favorites being the several cask strengths I've tried... so maybe I have to check out this one as well, as I haven't yet. (For tge record: have tried some single cask cask strength expressions, among them the AD/ 02.22)
Slàinte mhath
Ah yeah the single cask expressions can be simply amazing. I've had a couple myself and they are easily some of the brand's best offerings. Cheers buddy! 🥃
Need " tested " AD ))) good job mr.Geoff ))) Gaumarjos !
Keep an eye out for it, buddy. Great stuff. Gaumarjos! 🥃
@@Gwhisky )))
Requested this or the PC OLC01 for my 40th on the weekend, was given both!
Two of my favourites, so not a bad haul at all! Happy birthday!
Btw you're not far off from me... my 40th is next month. Cheers! 🥃
My bones hurt just reading your reply.
Also scored a Claxtons Arran peated 10yo, the Arran 10, a Hillwood CS ex-port (Tassie), Glenfarclas 10 and I bought myself the Longmorn 16.
Hopefully your 40th is as fruitful as mine, and that your bones begin to hurt reading this ! 🥃
I tried the first one and really liked it. I am a peathead but I love the balance Ardnamurchan has between peated and unpeated barley so I was a bit apprehensive about how much more peated barley this one used. Glad you liked it though, that's encouraging. Let me see if I can get my hands on one. Cheers Geoff!
Honestly it's not that peated in term of flavour. Pretty similar to the first release. If you liked that one, you'll likely be good with this one. Cheer buddy! 🥃
Good Stuff!
Thanks for the review Geoff. Really enjoyed this one!
I mean... you know my thoughts on Ardnamurchan. I don't have the CS version in my collection but I will try to get my hands on it sometime in the near future. Love the AD, love, the Sherry Cask Finish so hopefully I will enjoy this one too. Looking forward to that Ardna line up and showdown in the future- " There can only be one..."
Cheers my friend!
Slainte 🥃🥃
Hah yeah that rundown is going to be fun. I'd imagine this bottle shouldn't be too hard to track down in Berlin? 🥃
@@Gwhisky yeah it's pretty easy although it's still cheaper in Hungary all Ardna products ( Interesting.. ) What is impossible to find here is the Paul Launois release unfortunately....
@WhiskyWolf514 Ah too bad. Yeah I think that sold out pretty quickly.
@@Gwhisky Based on what heard about how good it is - I can understand hehe
Maybe I manage to do a bottle swap in the future with somebody from the UK. Cheers to you Buddy! 🥃🥃
Just bought this last week! Watching this video with great interest. Getting a peaty CS at this price sounded like a good deal
Edit: since you mentioned it at the beginning - i actually blind bought the CS bottle cuz of your review of the normal bottle (which i couldnt find in Hungary).
Glad to hear it! This one's a beauty! The standard AD should be quite easy to find. I saw it at GoodSpirits in Budapest a few weeks ago.
@@Gwhisky yeah I was thinking between this one and that one, the 09.22 CS was the more premium so I figured, since the normal got stellar reviews let's go for the more "premium one".
Also, didn't know you were in Budapest a while back, small world. If you're coming back sometime, there's a really good whiskey bar with about 300 different (and quite some exclusive) bottles I'd be happy to recommend.
Did you ever do the blind or comparison video of your different Ardnamurchan bottles? Would love to see that.
I haven't. Fun idea! 🥃
i saw tw has released a glengoyne 12 px
hope u can have a review on that!
I'll be on the lookout for it! 🥃
Geoff, first of all, I want to sincerely thank you for your bright, very useful and filled with sparkling humor reviews! Watching your videos is always very positive, educational and interesting.
Regarding this particular whisky, I can say that I tried the first release and liked it so much that I would probably call it the most delicious and balanced whisky that I have tried over the past 2022 year.
I haven't tried this second release, so I wanted to ask for your advice: I'm faced with a choice between Ardnamurchan AD/09.22 Cask Strength and Arran Machrie Moor Cask Strength. That being said, I am a big fan of peated whisky and I really like both of these distilleries. I would really like to know your opinion about what you personally choose.
I sincerely thank you in advance.
George
Hi Giorgio. I've tried the Machrie Moor, but not the Cask Strength. I liked it, but for me I much prefer the profile and flavour of Ardnamurchan, so that would be my suggestion. But if you're looking for a bigger peat experience, I think the Arran might be the way to go, as the Ardnamurchan is only very gently peated.
Hope that helps and thank you so much for the kind words! 🥃
Hi Geoff!
Let me congratulate you on your birthday!
I sincerely want to wish you endless inspiration to continue your wonderful creative research in the field of tasting and understanding whiskey, as well as creating such high-quality and useful content! And also I wish you internal positivity and joy from life, which you always have a lot. 👍
I would like to say thank you for your advice which I gladly listened to, and the Ardnamurchan AD/09.22 Cask Strength turned out to be truly magnificent, stunningly balanced and quite peaty to suit my tastes! 🥃
Thank you Geoff and Happy Birthday!!! 🎂🎉
I like my Ardnamurchan AD/02.22 Cask Strength, but rather pricey at $100. $77 USD sounds much better!
I was able to pick it up (Ardnamurchan AD/02.22 Cask Strength) for $89 USD a couple of weeks back. I am planning on opening it in a couple of weeks for my birthday.
Have another blind tasting of all the Ardna mentioned.
A blind Ardna comparison vid: what a great idea.👍
I will redirect my girlfriends budget complaints right to your channel. When it comes to Ardnamurchan, what expressions are least peated? I think I would want to start there. Also, is there any as low peatlevel as Highland Park for example? Haven't very much enjoyed whiskies over that peat level
I don't know about the specifics of each release, but the standard AD releases are very much balanced in terms of peat. To me they hit more coastal and fruity than they do peaty. A very different profile and style of peat than HP, but comparable in terms of the actual intensity, I'd say.
Please apologize on my behalf to your gf. I take full responsibility. 😉🥃
Alright that sounds promising. Not for my wallet, of course, but I will try one out from them@@Gwhisky
If you ever don't like an Ardnamurchan... actually, I don't know if I'd avoid it or want to try it all the more out of morbid curiosity.
Should add that’s about £75 English pounds.
It is nice isn't it! Do I blind with the 02/22. I did (twice). I slightly preferred the 02/22 but it is really a tie. Have you tried the AD 06/22 Paul Launois (2nd release). That is my absolute favourite Ardnamurchan.
I haven't had the 2022 release, but I have the most recent 2023 Launois and it's an absolute belter! 🥃
@@Gwhisky oh! I didn’t know there was a 2023 release. Have to get that. By the way. Don’t you sleep? 02:20 in the morning!?
@carlmartinlinder Taipei is an hour behind Tokyo. Heh. 01:30 and I'm about to crash. 😉
Love me some yumsies in my tumsies! Definitely looking forward to an Ardnamurchan run down
So am I! 🥃
Are all there bottles peated?
No. Most have a touch of peat. Some have none at all. The Paul Launois, for example. 🥃
I dont know whats happening, but I’m really not connecting with Ardnamurchan. It seems super boring to me… maybe not boring, but pretty flat and uninspiring. I hear everyone else really enjoying it, including you, whom I more or less share palette with. Makes me think I’m doing something wrong 😅
That happens. There are certain brands or bottles that every other enthusiast seems to love that I just don't connect with. We like what we like! 🥃
@@Gwhisky if you don’t mind, Mr. Geoff, what are some examples of that?
Maybe this could be a video on its own actually
@@Paasken Glen Garioch 12.
Onboard with this, don’t love Ardnamurchan either
how do you stay so fit at around 40? Really, whats your secret?
I think the trick is don't have kids. 😂
@@Gwhisky haha
you tried the 23?
No, not yet! 🥃
never tried any Ardnamurchan so far and getting a mid level/£60ish to 80ish bottle I havent tried for Xmas and wondering if this should be the one (Ruled out Redbreast 12 CS for now I think) .... @@Gwhisky
@@tomtomtommyism Personally I live the stuff. Ardnamurchan can do no wrong in my book. 🥃
@@Gwhisky think I'll go for that, thanks, profile sounds right up my street too
40 Geoff? Really. ;)
