Great videos by Hayven, I'm sad I didn't get to see these sooner, I was an original vanilla player. It cannot be underestimated how hard this questline was Naxx at the time was a 40 man raid so even to get the splinters was a huge job. 40 man raids were notoriously difficult to organise, there were server crashes poor internet connections, you had to be really well geared and buffed. Everything was grindy as hell. I never saw anyone on our server have it.
Thank you for making these videos. I am glad that you did something you were doing something you seemed passionate about as you left us. These videos are so well done that I can not give you a big enough high-five. I am working through every single one of your videos, which is an easy task considering how interesting and well crafted they are. Thanks for leaving something great for us all!
This is the first video I have ever seen by this guy. As I was being emotionally moved I scrolled down to give the story teller props only to hear he has passed on. RIP man.
Ken Sherman Thrall also clearly had Doomhammer before he went emo and ditch it, and Tirion clearly had Ashbringer before his arrogance let himself get killed. It's all about story writing.
I did too. I literally up like a Christmas tree man. These things were so cool and so marvelous to me as a kid. One of the things that make you go "wow"!
Wow, I had no idea it was so difficult to obtain. Barely anyone even killed Kel'thuzad so I would imagine only a couple dozen people at most even have it.
Not true, it was definitely extraordinarily rare in vanilla and even today it is, but it was not THAT rare, people take too seriously the stat on how many people saw Naxx. But aside from that you could also assemble it in TBC which is where the majority of Atiesh you'll see were made, which is far higher than a couple dozen even in Vanilla there were almost certainly more than that.
never knew this channel only found it after i saw a youtuber talking about his death and ever since i been looking at old videos of his really good content creator R.I.P man. may the light be with you and all your love ones.
Easily one of the best WOW videos! I was pulled into the story and since I played a Rogue and a Warrior in Vanilla I never even knew about the great staff.... I'm glad you have taken the time to remind us all just how great WOW has been!
Hey Hayven! I wanna share with you a little story from vanilla, hope you enjoy it. Back then i was a harcore pvper. I got Marshal tittle on my warlock. I was doing bgs as usual... and one day, i found myself in Arathi Basin, along my hunter friend. We used to play togheter all the time and he achieve Marshal rank same time i did. So there was i, defending the Blacksmith... We had totaly dominated that bg... We had all but the farm... the only one flag the horde had managed to cap... Everything was fine and dandy... until... My friend turned to me (we were playing in the same room)... He was defending Lumber Mill along this gnome warlock... who happened to have full tier 3... and Atiesh... I had seen him when we started the bg... and i knew what Atiesh was... But my friend did not... So he was all confused about WHY this gnome warlock could open portals... and not just that... a portal he did not recognize... My friend had never been outside kharazan in desolace... I tried to warn him... but i was not quick enough... He click the portal... and got ported to Karazhan... leaving the bg... (but hey! he discovered Karazhan!) The gnome was runing around the bg... opening portals to karazhan... and one by one... the people in the group started to leave the bg... because everybody was clicking that misterious new portal... At some point we had only 6 or 7 people in the Ally team... needless to say... we lost... I hate gnomes ever since! Stupid gnome and his shinny Atiesh! :P
7:12 - It was confirmed that Karazhan was supposed to be the final raid of Vanilla, that explains why. Now I can't give you any proof though, I think Mark Kern said it a while ago on Twitter but I don't have the tweet, and I'm not even 100% sure that this information comes from him. Sorry!
There has existed versions of the Karazhan raid all the way back since 0.5.3 pre-Vanilla even, but it is a bit strange to me they kept the on-use effect even after the raid was moved to Karazhan. Perhaps they figured Kara would technically follow Naxxramas anyway since Naxx was the last vanilla raid and Karazhan was the first TBC raid, who knows?
Yes I forgot to mention that but that's true, Karazhan was supposed to be T4 after Naxx (Well still T4 in TBC lol but I mean T4 in Vanilla), so Naxx wasn't planned as the last raid, Kara was but got delayed! That should explain the portal perk I guess, to get an instant teleport if you get the staff! as a little bonus.
Pink Dawg of Doom Pretty simple.. by the time you have Atiesh there is no content left to defeat since it required you to kill the last boss of Vanilla to obtain. So they added a few extra's as a little flavor. You have no idea how much time a portal to Karazhan has saved me! ;)
Yes I know that lol, I just said there was supposed to be another raid after Naxx but turned out Blizzard decided to postpone Karazhan to TBC, so this staff to me is pretty much a "Gratz for completing the game, and as a reward here's a super broken af item so you can have fun with it" weapon. Kind of the same thing on Spyro the dragon 2 on PS1 when you complete the game to 100%, you get the infinite super fireball, it's technically useless because you don't have anything to do left but that's super fun to go back to the early level and wreck stuff with it. :P
Interesting, I never knew this. I always thought Hellfire Citadel (or an early equivalent of it) would be the last raid, since there was an early version of Hellfiire peninsula in the game and it would've been epic to close Vanilla by actually going through the portal. But then Blizzard thought that going through the portal could be the cornerstone of a whole expansion and so we got TBC. These are obviously all just assumption on my part.
I've been playing Warcraft for so many years, and I felt like I literally know everything from the game.I mean backon alpha I even had a friend who was trying,so I really know everything about it.Only in your videos,I find myself wrong :).Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for the awesome vid!
I watched all of these back when he was still with us, watched them leveling during 2019 Classic. And am watching them again during SOD, wish he was here to play with us. R.I.P buddy!
you always make me comeback to wow and love to play it like when ever im extremely tierd of the game i watch a few of your videos and BAM im dying to play it xD
reza baghbannezhad well the items i am more into is the class ones liek rhok'delar or Benediction everytiem i see them on other players i kinda kneel before them :P but i got full T3 set for my hunter and tabard of flames so i have a few rare ones but i also got alot of other inuptanible in my wardrobe from vanilla but they dotn look that well :P
Apparently only 23 guild cleared Naxx40 in vanilla, so maybe less then 10 atiesh's were obtained during vanilla. Pretty wild. I'm presuming most of the atiesh's obtained was during BC. Apparently, the instance still required a decent amount of people to clear in BC end-game gear, really goes to show how ridiculously tuned Naxx40 was.
Most guilds clearing naxx finished several by the time tbc came out. We were killing KT pretty early (top 10 world) and working on our 4th atiesh at the end of vanilla. I finished our 3rd and still rock it sometimes :D
I absolutley LOVE the fact that Aran said that when you used the staff. Blizz knew ppl would use it cus of the buff. I want to see more of these details.
One minor error. The auras were different depending on class. +Healing for priests, +Spelldmg for warlocks and mp5 for druids. Other than that nicely done. I've seen this staff a few times, but the most interesting one was a few months after the release of BC when I leveled my hunter. I was in a group to do Slave pens or Underbog, and the healer is wearing full (8/9) set of T3 (Faith) and the legendary staff. I was expecting this to be a real smooth ride but after a few wipes on trash we soon realized that the account had been sold and the new guy in control did not really understand how to heal.
I've only seen this staff late Vanilla and early TBC. Often resto druids who had this on my Vanilla realm Skullcrusher EU. Haven't thought about that staff until I saw this video. Nostalgic, nice one :)
Mage NPC: A demon resides within that staff. He is one of Sargeras's most powerful minions and must be exorcised at all costs! All Warlock Players: I'm not seeing a downside here.
I always get this vanilla wow hype when I watch your vids. I cant wait for CF to release, promisngly the most detailed vanilla server there will ever be..
Funny how most cool things are from Naxrammas, which was one of the few scrapped instances and when it made a return, it got all of the stuff removed. GG Blizz
i remember doing the boss in Stratholme in my old guild. the guy had all the parts and we were level 70 and i did pick up the sword. back then only the tank could pick it up because whoever did would gain insane aggro. also you forgot to mention that if you failed to kill him back then during the raid you would have to wait until the next week to kill him again. they changed it back in BC to where once you summon him he would respawn
Eh, with guild drama (aka greed and favoritism) and the low drop rate plus people not wanting to repeat content they vastly out-geared it wasn't as easy as you might think. It was much more common than Atiesh of course, but that's because of the small window of time people had to acquire it and that the process was more involved. Once TBC came out, Naxx wasn't really solo-able and no one really wanted to go back to help someone get an obsolete staff.
I always loved listening to your voice before bed RIP friend

R.I.P you amazing man you were one of the rare few people that was truly great to follow
eternal love from Denmark
I love vanilla wow. "You need to find someone, somewhere. Better start looking."
Rest in peace friend ;-; My heart is heavy, and sadden by your passing :'(
I LOVE these lost to time videos. Rhok'delar and Lok'delar up next?
No hiss same here. They are some of my favorite WoW themed videos ever. More more more
They are among the planned videos to be made soon!
BRD planned? huge dungeon :)
Great Video. Rest easy brother. F.
I can't believe he's gone...
Thank you for making these videos. I am glad that you did something you were doing something you seemed passionate about as you left us. Rip Hayven.. still watching your videos friend
This is the first video I have ever seen by this guy. As I was being emotionally moved I scrolled down to give the story teller props only to hear he has passed on. RIP man.
I'm surprised Atiesh didn't become the artifact for mages. I mean, we already got iconic weapons like Doomhammer and the Ashbringer.
yeah would make more sense for arcane than cancer aluneth
Matt mercer does anice job with the voice acting of aluneth tough. And it has tons of interactions like xal'atath as well. I like it.
because khadgar clearly has it.
Ken Sherman Thrall also clearly had Doomhammer before he went emo and ditch it, and Tirion clearly had Ashbringer before his arrogance let himself get killed. It's all about story writing.
Kouya Williams your right...but khadgar didnt ditch it nor has he died a random death , therefore we didnt get it.
Man you're good at this.... I got chills man keep it up
Best wow youtuber out there atm.
Yeah man, I can't wait for his new vids, such quality!
Bakester unfortunately he died 5 months ago.........
Bakester Look at his other videos...you will understand...RIP
I did too.
I literally up like a Christmas tree man. These things were so cool and so marvelous to me as a kid. One of the things that make you go "wow"!
RIP Hayven, a true lord in WoW
You are missed my friend. Been watching your videos again to relive the fun again
RUclips recommends this to make me cry. thanks
Damn, now Hayven is lost to time :( I'll never be able to get a response from him again.
Wow, I had no idea it was so difficult to obtain. Barely anyone even killed Kel'thuzad so I would imagine only a couple dozen people at most even have it.

Fucking hell. 100% best-in-slot Warlock, has not been played in 10 years? Sounds like someone got into a car accident and didn't make it...
Kevin J You can see his recent activity at the bottom, he's still playing retail but just on another toon, keeping his main character. :P
Nihilum too. damn.
Awsome video man, comment just to support :)
thanks for everything hayven, I love your videos, always watch them when I'm on my coffee break! :) RIP!
never knew this channel only found it after i saw a youtuber talking about his death and ever since i been looking at old videos of his really good content creator R.I.P man. may the light be with you and all your love ones.
Thanks for your videos. RIP, mate. Still watch it ocasionally.
Thank you man even this information is impossible to find anymore..
I've come to pay my respects again. Resp in Peace, and may you be in the Big Raid in the Sky
Amazing channel and video, I was totally gripped.
r.i.p. Still watching your great videos man.
Thanks again Hayven for this beautiful video and story.
You are welcome! :)
Watched Hayven many years ago. Have not watched one of his videos in about 4 to 5 years and this one pops up in 2024.
Rest well my friend.
Easily one of the best WOW videos! I was pulled into the story and since I played a Rogue and a Warrior in Vanilla I never even knew about the great staff.... I'm glad you have taken the time to remind us all just how great WOW has been!
Thanks for making these lore based videos. You put a lot of work into them and they are greatly appreciated!
One of your best videos yet, which is hard to say since all of your videos are great. 9 and a half minutes just flew by. Very interesting! Thank you!!

eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/Ravencrest/Nirron/simple

I absolutely LOVE your voice - and you definitely have a gift for telling tales and make them amazing!

Rest in peace buddy
Superb vid......brought back lots of memories. Thank you.
I watched all of these back when he was still with us, watched them leveling during 2019 Classic. And am watching them again during SOD, wish he was here to play with us.
R.I.P buddy!
I have been waiting for this since your Benediction and Anathema video! Liked it ofc! Keep up the good work m8 ^^
I've watched majority of your videos, decided to sub after this one. Great job, you did awesome quality with your videos, enjoyed them
Wow i had no idea it was from Vanilla, thought it was related to the Karazhan raid. Dammit, you always make me wanna go back and play wow again! :)
you always make me comeback to wow and love to play it like when ever im extremely tierd of the game i watch a few of your videos and BAM im dying to play it xD
Click Video, Pause. Make a cuppa tea, sit down, enjoy
This was awesome. I eat this stuff up. Well done video with excellent explanations and detail. LOVED it
such a great weapon lost to time, I never looked into it until this video, such a cool questline I never knew existed
I still hate that blizzard took out so many good looking items from vanilla
Sony God I guess those items are some kind of "reward" for playing back then
As someone who did play back then... I wouldn't say it was a reward for playing back then, more like a reward for enduring the game back then :D
well that's true but i never considered atish a good looking item!!!
reza baghbannezhad well the items i am more into is the class ones liek rhok'delar or Benediction everytiem i see them on other players i kinda kneel before them :P but i got full T3 set for my hunter and tabard of flames so i have a few rare ones but i also got alot of other inuptanible in my wardrobe from vanilla but they dotn look that well :P
Ahem!And quests!
That raven effect is amazing. Great video.

Anyone in vanilla with that staff was literally a god. Thats how hard it was to get it
One minor error. The auras were different depending on class. +Healing for priests, +Spelldmg for warlocks and mp5 for druids. Other than that nicely done. I've seen this staff a few times, but the most interesting one was a few months after the release of BC when I leveled my hunter. This is incredibly well made, subbed !
Beautiful voice. Such commitment... Rest in peace
my buddy mage has this and i didnt know how epic it really is he never braged or anything about it but used it to port to kara i was amazed
I liked the emotes you did with your character at the end^^
woohooooo! these sorts of weapons are why i cannot wait for legacy servers in a couple weeks!
I cant wait for the fresh start server!
It will take you about a year to get this staff. Good luck if you do get it. If it takes you any less then these legacy servers are not really legacy.
saw the notifications and was like "oh no I've started a shitstorm haven't I?
Thank god lol.
Most vanilla servers don't even make it to Naxx
Great video, can u do Corrupted Ashbringer next? the epic vanilla one.
Thank you! I do talk about the Corrupted Ashbringer in my Evolution of Ashbringer video here: ruclips.net/video/Fea71ZhDzZ4/видео.html
I'm completely amazed by the quality of your video, your explanations are very clear et always captivating ! +1 subscribe
Awesome video. Loved the history behind it thank you
absolutely fantastic!Congrats,mate!
Really good video! Thank you for being such an amazing content creator. Keep up the quality work!
Hayven made great videos may his soul Rest In Peace. I miss him every day. R.I.P Hayvengames.
What has he passed away?
Amazing video Hayven! It's very interesting, thanks!
I miss you Hayven...
I've only seen this staff late Vanilla and early TBC. Often resto druids who had this on my Vanilla realm Skullcrusher EU. Haven't thought about that staff until I saw this video. Nostalgic, nice one :)
Really good video mate. I was like just clicking to see and ended up watching.
Mage NPC: A demon resides within that staff. He is one of Sargeras's most powerful minions and must be exorcised at all costs!
All Warlock Players: I'm not seeing a downside here.
I like how you showed a mage when you said players would get a quest after making the frame big lol
Proud to say I got this the night before it became unavailable! Great friends helped me get the last piece :)
Nice work dude you even got into Nostalrius twitter with this one :)
I love these lost to history videos, they are awesome. :)
I always get this vanilla wow hype when I watch your vids. I cant wait for CF to release, promisngly the most detailed vanilla server there will ever be..
I miss you Hayven
This was news for me:) Great video! You take care too.
Reins of the Astral Cloud Serpent dropped during this video, thanks.
i just found your channel and im really liking it so far
classic wow had such nice lore
RIP Hayven
Thanks for your work
Such an interesting video! Thank you so much for the information.
Hey I know Kithkaid, the guy that was featured. I raided with him in Screams of the Past
"You will not be forgotten brother."
love your vids man! you create great content!
Funny how most cool things are from Naxrammas, which was one of the few scrapped instances and when it made a return, it got all of the stuff removed.
GG Blizz
Amazing video! I love Atiesh
i remember doing the boss in Stratholme in my old guild. the guy had all the parts and we were level 70 and i did pick up the sword. back then only the tank could pick it up because whoever did would gain insane aggro. also you forgot to mention that if you failed to kill him back then during the raid you would have to wait until the next week to kill him again. they changed it back in BC to where once you summon him he would respawn
I met a guy that has the staff, old druid from vanilla, seeing it made my jaw literally drop
ah yes...when legendaries were legendary... LEGEND
Mezmerizer 9 i mean they didnt start giving em away since receantly lol and i mean sulfuras wasnt that hard to get.
Keep in mind that with the removal of Atiesh's questline, it is now more legendary than ever.
With Blizz's announcement of WoW Classic, we could see the return of this awesome staff.
Still have it on my mage
