Never could understand why Piaggio just didn't put a battery connection in the darn glove box and have an access panel to get to the engine better.....all that aside, always a pleasure Mitch when you take on a task and give us all the most easy way to go aobut doing something with whats on hand....👍
Dear Mitch, I am a motorcyclist owning 5 motorcycles but being grown in Italy when 50cc scooters ruled this market, I even have a scooter - a Vespa LX 150. I owned a Honda Joker and a Px125 before and my first road trip ever was on the Honda. Now I'm preparing my Vespa for a tour in Germany next September. I changed its clock's battery thanks to your video. Thanks a lot scooter brother!
Just a public service announcement -- on my 2012 LX150 i.e. there are 2 washers under each of the side view mirror stems. When you twist to remove them, the washers will tend to go flying unless you are careful and pull the stems up exactly straight. If they go flying, they will drop inside and land who-knows-where, leaving you to go and have to hunt them down, lest they end up somewhere untoward, lol. Otherwise, THANK YOU for this informative video! My clock died a while ago, and I've struggled with whether 'the juice is worth the squeeze' in replacing the coin cell battery, but this video has given me a little more confidence if I decide to tackle the project.
Why is EVERYTHING on scooters so difficult and involved to work on? I think they do it on purpose. Nothing like removing every screw, bolt, seal and connector to remove a panel to remove the engine to remove the transmission to remove the frame... so you can change a brake light bulb. 😂
Most Vespa 150 repairs are pretty straightforward, as long as body work isn't involved. But THIS fix for a simple clock battery is, indeed, absolutely absurd. And the clock the battery powers is chintzy, somewhat prone to failure, and expensive to replace ($45+) unless you buy from overseas (a mere $25).
Mitch, great video... why do they make this such a job to change a clock battery? I enjoy watching you and seeing how persistent you are in sharing the things you like to do with others.
Great Video, thanks Mitch. If I need a clock on my scooter, I will buy a stick on version. What a lot of work to change a battery once a year. But again great video and thank you.
Great video. I found it was enough on my LX 50 to remove the lamp assembly and disconnect the speedo-cable (16mm? nut). The "dashboard" then can be removed (4 philipps screws). Unplug 2 plugs, and you have the dashboard in your hand.
Thanks for sharing your tutorial, our question , as Italian fans of Vespa is : who's the Piaggio egineer making this crazy solution ??? Nobody in Itally change the battery ,once is dead , so forget the watch of Vespa !
Jesus on a pogo stick! Came here for a battery change and now this? I think l’ll solder a break out cable and take a batter somwhere under left black cover for the sake of all PITA next time around. Hats off to yours instructions, keep on!
Excellant video even better if you chatted as you worked but putting words on screen was good and easy to follow. I wish I watched this before I attempted. Didn’t know how to remove front panel so did it without. Had two screws left over and now see where they came from hahah. Many thanks
Just did this to my LX150. Something to note, there will be an extra connector that goes to nothing. Had to scratch my head for a bit until I realized it was never hooked up to begin with. I believe it was the connector with a pink and blue/white wire going to it.
Thx 4 the video! 2 questions: 1 - I read the Silver Oxide battery SR43 has 25% more capacity, so any reason not to use that instead? 2 - How long would you say a first timer who's average with mechanical stuff would take to do this job?
My battery died on my Vespa GTS300 a few weeks ago Mitch. I think it's too much of a faff just to change the battery on a digital clock. It's such a bad design. Thanks for the "How To". :)
hi and thanks for your videos, they are great! 👍 I wanted to ask you if you know how I can reopen the front door without breaking it, since I have removed all the front and or forgot to put the elastic that makes the door work which now does not open again 😅 .. can you help me?
If you ever decide to go through that painful process my suggestion would be to use two cables, connect them to the connectors inside the clock and install the battery outside allowing for an easy replacement in the future
Fun fact about the front Piaggio emblem: the hexagonal shape you find removing it is actually the shape of the Piaggio logo/emblem. They make Vespa logos like this for no apparent reason, maybe just to cut down production costs using the same machinery, even if the emblem used on Vespas has a totally different shape. They do the same on Gilera's emblems, I used to have a Runner 50 and a Runner 180, that's how I noticed that. Dunno why that's so interesting to me...
I recently did this but found it's slightly easier to leave the rear handlebar cowling in place and just remove the clocks from it. 4 screws hold them in place, easily accessible once the front handlebar cowling is removed. Less work than undoing all the rear cowling mounts imo.
I have a gt200l, could I just leave the back side upper cowling on and take out the clock from the front?… always a pain to line up everything, feels like the plastic tabs are going to break in the process
My Honda Helix clock runs off of the the scooters 12 v. I’m sure it’s reduced voltage. Vespa should be ashamed of themselves for making such ridiculous, time consuming job of changing a bat’tree. I sure hope the bat’tree was included with the package it came in. Ha ha! I really like your videos Mitch!! Have you ever owned a Helix? The best scooter ever! So comfortable!
Yeah! Same with Burgman, Vespa 250, 300cc... that have clock like helix... wish vespa 150, 50cc do the same thing... this is too much work for tiny battery haha. Thank you so much! Oh man I never had a helix before... I really hope to find one to restore... I hope someday?! 🙏🏼
Too much work, half scooter dissasembled to just change a damm clock battery. BTW, love the lots of different birds sings while you are working in silence. Beautiful place to live in. Cheers!
Hi. I have 2014 LX 125 V3. Not same battery and same way change. But your video how to change battery way. AG10 battery using mine. I use AG13 Np 😁✌🏻 thx
Hallo Mitch can you help mi about my scooter I have gilera runner 125 ccm 2009 4t in good condotion.I have one problem but i cant find reason. When i start scoot ,and drive about 1 kilometer with full throttle, then stop and turn off. After that it cant start I have to wait about 20 min and after that it start normally. Please help
I would check to make sure air filter is clean, carburetor is 100% clean? Jets all clean? Intake tube cracked? Check the hoses ... it did to me once with Piaggio Fly and found out a hose is cracked and manifold intake is cracked
@Mitch's Scooter Stuff okay thank you in few days i will check hoses first then everything else i hope that is problem because fly and runner have same machine ps your videos are the best keep going
nice video mitch ,can you help me please dude ,i have a weird scooter ,its a nipponia miro 125 gy6 long case ,which is really a 129cc,but they class it as 125cc in the uk ,it has a long stroke engine ,and a weird size cylinder barrrel which is 74.9mm in height , from what i researched thats much bigger than the normal gy6 qmi barrels in height ,i know im rambling lol :P ,the question i have is, there is a metal pipe coming off the exhaust by the end can ,that then it goes to pipe which leads to a canister thing under the rear of bike ,it does,nt goto the petcock or the cylinder head ,what is it ?? i know abit about scooters but im a sportbike dude , i usually ride gsxr750srad 98fi ,but due to an accident ,the bike is totaled and i had to have knee surgery . so now im riding a scooter until my leg is better ,i have owned the scooter for 4 years , she,s great for nipping into town and short journeys ,she,s quick for 129 cc 68mph top speed :) can you help dude ,regards sion :)
This is madness, i am amased you didn't have to remove the engine to replace the clock battery😱, my LX will spend the rest of its life without a clock. I'll just use my wrist watch to know the time.
And while you have the headset off, do yourself a favor and change your brake fluid. People rarely change it and if your clock battery has gone dead it’s probably time to refresh the brake fluid.
You might consider changing the head light bulb while you're in there. They last about the same amount of time the clock battery lasts and they're pretty cheap. Would be a shame if you went through all that and 1 week later it burns out🤬

Well, just did it. It seems my model was a bit different but it took me about 60-75 min. Thanks for your video!
for clock

Thanks for the descriptive video. Now I understand why most Vespa drivers prefer to drive without this watch after a few years 🥴
Mitch made me want a scooter lol. He is the best at clearly explaining the task. I want him to have some power tools so bad lol.
That. Was a lot. 😮
Came here to change the clock battery, left knowing I'll never know what time it is when riding 😅
Why is EVERYTHING on scooters so difficult and involved to work on? I think they do it on purpose. Nothing like removing every screw, bolt, seal and connector to remove a panel to remove the engine to remove the transmission to remove the frame... so you can change a brake light bulb. 😂

Mitch, great video... why do they make this such a job to change a clock battery?
I enjoy watching you and seeing how persistent you are in sharing the things you like to do with others.
Literally just sat through this and was like hmmm... welp.. I guess I'm not THAT worried about what time it is. 🤣
This tutorial can also be used to change the clock battery on 2010 Piaggio Liberty 4T Delivery. Great video as it is not that hard to do on its own.
Great to know! Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼

If you ever decide to go through that painful process my suggestion would be to use two cables, connect them to the connectors inside the clock and install the battery outside allowing for an easy replacement in the future
thank you, its great tutorial, you are a Master.
You make it looks so easy... thanks man i think i will just look at my watch...lol
You can do it!
Thanks Mitch for showing those screws I forgot what went where 😅

I guess a few years? 5 years? not sure
Always a pleasure to watch your videos Mitch!!
I appreciate that!

Too much work, half scooter dissasembled to just change a damm clock battery. BTW, love the lots of different birds sings while you are working in silence. Beautiful place to live in. Cheers!
Yeah it sucks, wish Vespa could design something better than this. Haha yes strong bird community over here 😄 🤙🏼
These steps for a Gt200L as well?
I did exactly as you did, but it still doesn't work, could it be something else?
Incredibile!
What if the front cover is stuck and cannot get loose as described at 1:43 ?
PERFETTOOOOOO !!!! Spitze !!
thank for sharing !!
Well that was insane
Haha yup, it sucks to do so much work for that part 😆
Forget it I’ll buy a watch 😉
😂😂👍🏼
Thank you for the video Mitch. I think I'm gonna just look at my watch...
You’re welcome! Yeah haha it’s easier than replace the battery hard way 😎
thank you
Verry good 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
I have an Italjet Millenium 125 and it was just as painful to change the battery as this one. But hey! It is gonna show the time for two years!😅
