  • The M2e is ViewSonic's latest compact LED projector that's both portable and smart. And while that is technically true, it does leave room for interpretation.

    This was such an amazing review. You touched on so many aspects that not even expert projector reviewers get to. Which actually matter a lot to some of us, like the input lag. Thank you!

    Great review, thank you. Can you control the sound settings, e.g. switching between different sound modes like cinema, music etc. or use the equalizer when using wired or bluetooth headphones?
    Not even the customer service at viewsonic knew the answer to this straight way, it seems like such an obvious feature for such a proctor, however, i am about to return my LG hd pf50ka that lacks this option. Thank you so much. 🙏

    Nice video Justin. Very clear and detailed. Do you know which version of sw you were running? I have the same unit which has version 1.01 and the fan noise is too loud for a unit of this size & power. They told me there were no plans to update the software further for noise levels.

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I was running V1.01 as well and got a confirmation from the engineers that the issue would be resolved in a future firmware update. These things unfortunately can take a while, but the update will come :)

    • @induslove

      They are at 1.06 right now. The fan noise was okay for me, but this is a relative thing.

    How is it like using it as a CEC device? If I plug in a chorecast via hdmi and I turn that on, does the projector go straight to the HDMI input or do I still need to fiddle around with the OS?

    so is the M2e the same like M2 you need to plug in the wifi dongle in order to connect it to the wifi? I ordered M2 but the wifi dongle stoped working after a week... now I'M debating if I should get M2e or M2

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      With the M2e, the Wi-Fi module is built in to the device itself. No dongle needed :)

    Justin, can you test auto keystone correction on your M2e while the projection mode is set to front ceiling mode and tell me if it gives you any problems? Mine just makes a clicking noise and never adjusts the image shape

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад

      Just tried it out and it works normally for me. The clicking noise might be the projector automatic refocusing. The auto keystone does however only work on the vertical axis, if you need the horizontal keystone you'll need to switch to manual keystone correction ;)

    • @macsawall1288
      @macsawall1288 3 года назад

      @@JustinFeldhouse Hmm ok thanks. I accidentally ordered 2 of these projectors and they both have the same issue. It isn’t the auto focus as I have that turned off. If I go to the settings menu and watch the keystone values, I can see it he numbers toggling back and forth in sync with the clicking noises

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I actually get to try a lot of different projectors for my day job and the Halo is an amazing portable projector. It's a step up from the MoGo Pro in terms of audio and video quality and brightness. I won't be reviewing the Halo, but I will be reviewing the XGIMI Horizon in a while.

  • @egedusud9

    Nice review ! I had the M2 and while I loved it the main feature I was looking for didn't work well ( the horizontal or 4 point keystone correction made the image laggy, like it was 15/20 fps... )
    So I was wondering if it's fixed in this model ? Does the 4 point keystone impact the image ?

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! In the brief time I tested the projector I didn't notice any slowdown or hiccups when utilizing any form of keystone or 4-corner correction.
      To be fair, most of my testing was with, at most, either vertical or horizontal keystone. So, if the problem only occurred with 4-corner correction at a couple of minutes, there's a big chance I didn't get to see it.
      Any form of keystone is destructive towards image quality, so when setting projectors up, I always try to minimize using it as much as possible.

    • @AshLOVEsTECH
      @AshLOVEsTECH 3 года назад +1

      I tried both, and can confirm the m2e does not suffer from this half as much as the m2. It's like the processor in the M2 isn't powerful enough. I kept the m2e over the M2 for this very reason.

      I'd also be interested how this projector fares vis-a-vis the MoGo Pro overall!

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      Both are great projectors but bot have their strong and weak points. Overall, the MoGo Pro isn't as bright and as snappy focusing compared to the M2e and has a higher input lag. The Android TV OS on the MoGo Pro gives it a huge advantage over the M2e. But then again, Netflix also isn't available. In both cases you'd need a separate media player or Chromecast to make it do everything you'd want. It's pretty much a tie depending on your preference over software / hardware specs. Both are excellent portable* projectors, but only the MoGo Pro is truly portable (as long as you have a working internet connection).

    In 3.30: I'm not sure if I can help but maybe you could try with Zendure SuperHub NS. Again I don't know if is that what you looking for, hope I can help. I'm planing on buy this projector and I'll bypass Viewsonic software through a Chromecast in the back and problem solved for me. Yes is more accesories and anothe thing to buy but I really like the design and the brand give me confidence. I would like to see a vs between this one and the Nebula Solar and maybe another projector in the same class. Keep it up with the great work. Greetings from Chile, wish you the best.

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад +1

      I've never heard of the Zenzure SuperHub before! While it does seem to do what I was looking for, it doesn't output enough power for the M2e, unfortunately. Thanks for the tip though!
      I'll try to do some comparisons in the future :)

    • @induslove
      @induslove 2 года назад

      Yes, I recommend Google TV with Chromecast. The nice thing is that the Chromecast can be powered via the USB-C port, one less cable. The USB-A on the projector does not have enough power for the Chromecast. The Viewsonic software on this projector is garbage. I prefer my projectors to be dumb, I can make them smart with an Apple TV, Firestick, or Chromecast.

    So let me get this right. You can play NETFLIX, AMAZON PRIME ETC but not full 1080p? Is that correct?

    • @induslove
      @induslove 2 года назад

      No, you can play them all at 1080p, the native resolution of this projector. In my opinion it is best to use this projector with a firestick or chromecast.

      I agree, it is better to use an external power bank that can come in handy for other things. I am using a Lenovo USB-C powerbank that has pass through charging and I can use it with my Lenovo laptop.

  • @n0n3able
    @n0n3able 3 года назад +2

    I bought it and let me tell you few things.. This projector runs android 6.0, it has 1Gb RAM, and the aptoide store is useless. While you can install external apps, none all of them will work as expected. Netflix is included, the RUclips app included, which is not the original one, crashes randomly. Install kodi? You can, it crashes too, impossible to use it. Well, what about connecting a laptop or external media centre, it works, from time to time, the projector firmware becomes unresponsive, so no volume, no focus, nothing. When it works, it is great, when it is not working, which is the majority of the time, it is extremely annoying. They really need to rethink the hw specs and/or make a major improvement on the firmware.

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  3 года назад

      On paper the specs aren't amazing, I agree. But in my video I address the issues with the smart platform it uses. Netflix is available though and works fine for me. I haven't encountered the projector becoming unresponsive. Maybe you have a defective model?

    • @n0n3able
      @n0n3able 3 года назад

      @@JustinFeldhouse it might be defective. However, i started the process to return the unit. Xiaomi has released a HD Projector in the market, similar price if you know where to buy it online, among other features... hdr10, Android tv 10, however poor HW specs too. If the refund process goes ok, i will take the money and i will give it a try to xiaomi one. I would only keep viewsonic if the issues got fixed (normal consumer expectations), the firmware is rebuilt up to the point it is highly stable. I suspect it will take while, so, in the short term, i will move to another vendor.

    Is there any portable projector that is quiet?

    • @JustinFeldhouse
      @JustinFeldhouse  Год назад

      There are, but non of them are silent. All projectors need to be cooled and most of the times that’s done with a fan. The thing is, smaller fans like the ones in portable projectors make a more audible sound most of the times. Depending on your threshold and usage some models might fair better than others.
