Police Catch an Identity Thief in the Act

- On October 17, 2022 in Florida, officers were called to a local bank in reference to a suspected fraud. A woman had entered the bank and asked to withdraw $4,200. She said she didn't know her account number but had her ID and the last four digits of the account. Prior to the woman's arrival, the bank had been notified by the real account holder to flag the account, because her information had been stolen. This is footage of the events that followed.

I really can't believe people actually do this and not feel guilty about ruining someone else's life.
Federal law protects you if the transaction was not made by you and was unauthorized .. so we all get screwed lol
It is astonishing isn’t it? She was going to try and hold onto that identity as long as she could. She didn’t even blink an eye trying to steal from an account that wasn’t even hers.
Someone stole my SS# back in February 2012 and used it to file an online tax return. In TEXAS! I’m thinking it was an illegal. The woman at the IRS told me that she couldn’t tell me where the return was filed, where the person filed the return, and said it was for THEIR safety! I looked at her like “WHAT?!?” She said, “I have to get some forms for you to fill out, so don’t look at my screen because the name and address of the person who filed the tax return is pulled up,” and then she winked at me. She left the room, and I looked at the screen! The address was 1234 Happy Drive, Houston, TX!! Yep, sounds like a real address to me! This was back when you didn’t need to verify your identity to file an online return, and when online filing was relatively new. It took me 7 months to get my refund. But after that, the IRS sends me a PIN number every year in January, and even if someone tries to use my SS# to file an online return, if they don’t have my PIN number, it won’t go through. I don’t know why they didn’t do that from the beginning of online filing! A lot of people had their SS#s stolen and used to file in-line returns!!
Right.
Career criminals. They don’t care who they hurt. They only care about whether they get caught or not.
i hate thieves like this. they steal from hardworking people because they're too lazy to work themselves
Yeah, and thieves aren't the only ones doing this. Landlords are basically doing the same thing. They are taking others hard earned money while they do nothing to earn it.

That used to be a great way to get their identity, and a whole lot faster than going down to the jail, using the livescan, waiting for the prints to come back. Nowadays there’s a portable fingerprint reader. Returns it instantly.

That's cause she thinks the money is hers to take.
Only 60 days in jail? She attempted to steal $4,000 and was committed identity theft. That should be a few years in prison, that’s where she belongs.
That’s why they do it and reoffend. Punishment isn’t high enough. These cops seemed like paid actors 😂 just the way they talked and acted like they had very little training during the whole incident, it’s embarrassing. Glad I don’t live in FL.

@@Paul77ozee Sure, tons. Here's one:
I had a very good customer that was very bad with his finances. He was a retired gang member with a million tattoos. He started coming in with messages he said was from a girl that he was interested in, but I recognized it as an obvious scam (Typical honey pot style lover scam). The person kept getting him to send small amounts of money to them, even after telling him many times NOT to, and that it wasn't real (It is common for people to not believe you when they are in too deep). Eventually, He came in to let me know the person had sent him a large sum of money, and wanted him to make out a Cashiers Check and send it to them to pay for a car because they didn't have an account. I let him know this was definitely stolen money, and if he sent it it would eventually return and he would be on the hook to pay it back (It was almost $30,000). After an hour of talking to him, he agreed not to send the check, and just left the money in his account. 3 months later, He came in saying the money never returned, and asked me if he could keep it. I told him I didn't recommend that (The money came in via wire transfer.) A few months later he drove up in the new truck he bought, So I just face palmed and went about my business. I moved to a different branch shortly after and never found out anything about it. I think he is still driving the truck though lol.
She tried to wave the cop off like he was some salesman trying to sell her something. "No thanks, I'm in a hurry"

she will get any money lost back from the bank- if any.....then bank goes after suspect for money-

It your rent is due in a couple days, you need groceries, you need to go to the dr, or get a prescription, your child needs money for school..oh well you aren't going to have that money when you need it. Yeah the banks say 1-2 weeks, it's usually shorter. @@alexgrenlie862 "Only $4K"? Maybe not the crime of the century, but still bad enough. That could be an entire life's savings for someone who had little to no income.
@lynnhen, I completely understand your frustration with the justice system however in a remarkable irony, it's both cheaper and lucrative to place a non violent defendant on Probation for the following reasons:
1)Incarceration is very EXPENSIVE once you factor in Housing, Medical, Food and Supervision/Staff of the inmate.
2) Probation frees up the all ready OVERCROWDED and UNDERSTAFFED prisons and reduces the back log in the prison.
3)The Government/City/County makes tons of $$$$$$$ from Probation as the Defendant has to pay monthly Probation fees. In this case it's easily $300 ×12 months which is $3600.
4) Additionally, once a defendant is placed on Probation he or she relinquishes her constitutional rights meaning she is subject to Searches 24/7 including drug and alcohol tests which keeps the community safe.
5) Let's say she violates her Probation, she will get to do jail time for the Fraud Charge in addition to the new charge.
Trust me, the House always Wins.
The best cause of action in this scenario is the Victim needs to sue her in civil courts for monetary damages and garnish her future earnings and wages.

Agreed. LEO with over 23 yrs on the job, worked a lot of these cases. This woman should have been taken into a back office inside the bank, never outside, and should have had all possessions removed from her person immediately, no access to purse, phone, etc. All interviewing should take place inside the office, and subject placed under arrest and handcuffed before being walked outside to the patrol car for transport to jail. I am in FL and there are multiple charges this person would face. Uniformed officer should have called their detective division immediately to speak to an investigator who handles economic crimes and have him/her respond to the scene as this most likely involves more than just this one event, and these uniformed officers plainly are not experienced in handling this type of call.
bet she has mutliple warrants on her for doing this many times
My husband received a summons for court one day for cocaine possession. He thought it was a joke. Turns out someone was using his identity and was charged with possession after purchasing a 40k truck with my husband's identity. He obviously never paid for the truck and put a dummy plate on it. They've never caught the guy. Thankfully the cops believed my husband and watched the dash cam footage back, the guy looked like my husband but obviously wasn't him. 8 years later my husband's credit score is still recovering and they've never caught the guy to our knowledge. I've never seen him so stressed as he was when he was trying to prove his innocence and try to set this right with his credit score. One major bank won't deal with us because the truck was purchased with a loan from them, and it's difficult to prove it wasn't my husband.
People like this woman don't care about anyone else and any consequences, ruining people's lives.
Someone using my identity got me in massive trouble with the IRS. This was years ago, but a person used my return label with my address and information on their tax forms. The IRS told me I was hiding my actual income so I wouldn't have to pay the appropriate taxes. They came after me and told me I owed tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes. It was a nightmare for the longest time. They ended up auditing me and found out what happened and who they really needed to go after.
That's freaking wild. Thankfully he didn't go to jail or have a warrant or something for it
One thing about cops and law enforcement is they try to scare the shit out of you. Say “your facing 20 years” than you end up doing 30 days. Or nothing at all.
Yet another reason why credit scores need to be done away with, we have no need for it in this country and all it does is make life harder on people who suffer from this incidents (which, is to say, a lot of people)
Yeah, no victims.
13:16 And that right there is why you should immediately remove the phone from the person being detained, she's obviously part of a huge identity theft ring and now the rest of the rats are off and running

Here practiced ways and faked appearances at bank gave me not first time she tried but caught vibes.
Good job bank officer for verifying before getting trapped by her scam.
She only had the last four digits of the account, that she is a major red flag
Its sick what people will do. And she seems calm like what ever. She has no remorse at all
Identity theft is no joke. She should see prison time.
Any time a suspect casually acts like they have better things to do than interact with an approaching cop is guilty as hell.
haha yeah - that panic excuse....ummm I have to go call my ride right now...like thats a logical response to come here and talk to the police.
They always looking in their phone when they get caught
She said she told them inside that she had an appt to get to and she could just come back later. Lol imagine going to your bank, not being allowed to take out your own money, and then casually saying you could just come back later and try again. Not suspicious at all. 😆
Hold on a second
@@kevinknox1239 busy deleting text messages.
As a victim of fraud, I'm sure glad she was caught. Sometimes it's not always easy.
She got a slap on the wrist
@@edwinf9999 She sure did!
@@edwinf9999not good, she deserves prison time. so sick of these people
It took me years, I still have a house in Alaska, I've never been to Alaska nor do I own a home there😮
Someone filed their taxes in my name!! Seriously?????
"I want an attorney"
"Are you being detained?"
"No? But you read my Miranda so I want my attorney."
"Are you who you say you are?"
Good job creating enough of an issue that the DA will have to plead it down. "I'm a police officer, I don't have to respect people's rights"
Wow this is absolutely disgusting!
It takes a special kind of person to knowingly ruin someone's life by identity theft.
Now imagine them in a group. That’s what this is
It's called scamming, and it gives you a kick like cocaine. It's only more rewarding.
Psicopaths there called
They don't care
Her outfit alone is an arrestable offense
A choker like she’s 14 eww😂
It's not that bad. She just needs to lose 10 pounds, and she will look less like a wrapped chicken.
Aggravated ugliness too.
They should charge her for fashion crimes as well, I agree 😂
They ruined her self-esteem. Double-cuffing someone is a casual wise-crack at her weight.
What about the money she already stole? 60 days in jail seems like a ridiculously light sentence.
"She would be sentenced to 60 days in jail and 12 months probation"
This system is a big fail.
You know what I do when I’m trying to not get arrested? I don’t commit felonies.
Hahaha!
You'll get arrested when committing a misdemeanor, so the joke is on you.
You could still be arrested if you haven't committed a crime
@@Caesar2k1 well that’s illegal and a big lawsuit waiting if it were to happen
@@GoLakers3900 in most cases, you do not have to go to jail if you are convicted of a misdemeanor.
You living in California has the most lax laws about that, you should know lol.
60 days and 1 year probation!?!?
How about 3 years in prison 5 years probation and in addition to fines she is ordered to repay any money she did manage to steal from this person?
Yes , I agree !!
Hurting someone like this is just as bad as physical assault. Those wounds heal quickly though. Identity theft is insane right now. Protect yourself.
then how about 1.5 million reward to her from the city of kimmissee for violating her constitutional right. she chose attorney and not speak to not incriminate herself. at that point the officer must by lea accept this .he did not. he continued to interrogate her after the fact. so im sure a deal was made . violated a person constitutional rights is way worse .
They are lucky to get that much time. She said she needs to talk to an attorney several times
Depends on her record. No record, most courts are lenient if the crime isnt violent.
i know who she is, her name is Lumpy McGee, shes a 210lb, 5'3" beefer, who is built like a flea market sofa
She asked for a lawyer twice and they are still talking to her police blows the case before it goes to court ...
How is this crime only worth 60 days in jail?!?!
Plea deal.
60 days is pretty good. Next is 6 months etc
@@tpaln Trying multiple times to steal $4000 from someone and having a fake ID should at minimum be a year in prison not two months in jail and a year of probation.
I'm sure her lawyer used a *5th amendment rights violation to render any of her statements inadmissible in court. As soon as she asked for an attorney, the cops should've stopped questioning her. Highly illegal to continue doing so.
Edit: @supriseimblack pointed out that it is actually the 5th Amendment, not the 4th, that gives protection against self-incrimination.
@@bumbleybumbleton9382seriously. piss poor policing.
My father, while in hospice, had his identity stolen and his accounts hacked for about $30,000. The bank did right and restored the money, but it was horrible to deal with that along with preparing for my dad’s passing.
Was it someone like this that did it? Repugnant.
no she’s likely part of an international scam operation, so she’s just a money mule collecting pay - thats why “they” called her with the caller ID blocked and were kept on the call throughout the interaction. the real scammers are in another country somewhere, unfortunately safe and sound and moving on to the next mule.
Sorry to hear that , that’s just awful ❤❤
Most likely someone in the family, someone close.
Investigate your family. Someone KNEW he was passing and had that money. You need to dig deep. Don't tell any family members or friends about what you doing or you will fail. And your investigations will be compromised. Loose lips sink ships. Probably one of your fathers siblings or thier children. Don't accuse. Ask the right questions in the Investigation. Good luck.
How terrible!😢
At any moment, I was expecting the black officer to say, “I am the Captain now”.
Cop sounds pissed and rightfully so. He must get sick of this cr*p.
I've had my identity stolen and know what it's like. It's a months long torment for the victim and the criminal punishments aren't nearly what they should be. She's absolutely the lowest of the low.
how did they managed to do it, I know people who had it done because they left personal information in their household bins and another one because she left her card in a room with a flatmate living there
Same here. I left my wallet at a Starbucks.
My husbands identity was stolen from a hacked computer through the school he works at. It causes so much damage. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
She’s a runner for an organized crime ring. She probably gets $100 and she was probably on the phone with the gang boss who was probably near by to collect the cash. Our business account was compromised and there was women showing up in different locations trying to cash checks and a police investigation was trying to track down the gang leaders for months. The real gangsters never show up anywhere. They recruited her somewhere online and she was probably reporting to the boss while the cops were talking. Yeah, you heard them say that the phone was live on a call the whole time and they just found out when they finally grabbed her phone. There’s thousands of runners out there. This person’s account is still going to get hacked. The gang probably gave her the ID as well. They’re probably supplying her with drugs or something.
How did it happen to you - any advice would be so valuable
Identity thieves are some of the lowest criminals there are….🤬🤬🤬🤬
These police officers could have cut their time in half by telling her that they can ID her at the jail!! Wow!!
Looks like Ms. Clara Belle Con's "Uber driver" was actually her accomplice. Tracking that phone number could be an interesting exercise.
The absolute lack of remorse should tack on extra years in sentencing.
"I feel like there's something wrong right now." Genius.
She was really trying to play into that role
I just don’t get the logic. Sure you can fool some minor services with a fake ID but when you’re at the point that police are running the ID through databases… you’re done. Why was the lady still saying anything at all 😂
@@xanithrustygaming6911 I think she was put up to this attempted fraud by her "person' on the phone. She is inexperienced and had no idea how to BS her way through it because she's not a professional scammer. Note that after they got the phone away from her she gave her real name in a low voice, as if she was afraid she'd be overheard. She got off with light charges probably because she gave the police information about the person who is behind the identity theft. If this is really what happened, I hope she has learned to not participate in criminal behavior because she's no good at it. If I'm wrong and she's a full partner in the fraud, I hope she realizes she has a record now and is no good at it and will be caught if she tries it again.
“I’m not trying to be arrested right now…” I mean, is anyone? Ever? Poor woman, sucks for her but fair is fair.
It's always that "one more Time" that gets them.
$4K is a lot of money... she should have to do $4K in work for the city as punishment.
Y for the city, it should be for the victim she stole it frm
If they actually made people do things like hard labor there wouldn’t be as many criminals 😂😂
and at the rate of minimum wage, and after tax. Just to make sure that sentence is as long as possible
She's a white woman of course she got away with it. And did it again successfully in another city once she was released
That would be a few lunches for your city politicians.
When has any innocent person been approached by a cop and instantly responded with, "I gotta go. My ride is here."
😂😂😂😂
Did you see her avoiding eye contact when she first appears in the video?
The ride probably hiked it as soon as the cops arrived
Tbh I have lol one time I was with someone that had a warrant that was detained I was completely innocent and I was like uhoh time for me to go haha
I always thought if someone states they want an attorney all further questions must stop.
That one officer was like Columbo lol He's like let me show you your ideas fake...
It's bad enough to try stealing someone's identity, but then to double down on the lie in the face of clear evidence is stupid at best and sociopathic at worst.

Sixty days? She'll be doing it again in 61.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?

Not to mention the “Uber“ which was her accomplice is still free to do whatever for the 60 days
