Joseph, I appreciate your pessimistic exploration of Hope's shadow. I sometimes feel caged by 'toxic positivity' and resonated with your nuanced view of the often inviolable concept of Hope.
Great episode! Thank you for mentioning Pandora in connection with this. Strangely enough, Pandora is not a "woman" but I guess an android in modern terms. I'm sure there are some more layers to this idea. The "humans" Prometheus aided were pre-Flood, so not modern humanity. Modern humanity is descended from Pandora and Epimetheus. All that to say, Prometheus' daring resulted in humanity becoming "whole" but imperfect, genetically and psychologically. Really amazing story.
00:00 🔥 Prometheus, a mythic figure, embodies the tension between foresight and hindsight, representing humanity's ability to bring knowledge and wisdom from the collective unconscious. 03:34 🔥 Prometheus was a trickster figure who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, allowing for the mastery of fire and transformation of civilization. 09:01 🔥 Prometheus also introduced the concept of sacrifice to humanity, a promise that humans would offer sacrifices to appease the gods, including the smoke from fire. 11:22 🔥 Fire symbolizes more than physical heat; it represents internal passion, creativity, and the need for control over one's inner fire. 20:24 🔥 The struggle to harness inner fire, desires, instincts, and emotions is a constant battle between having them or being controlled by them. 22:29 🔥 Prometheus serves as a metaphor for the human ego, straddling the archetypal and the physical, balancing instincts and the search for knowledge. 25:13 🔥 Overreaching, like Prometheus stealing fire, can lead to suffering and punishment, representing the consequences of pushing limits. 26:35 🔥 Jung's idea of the Promethean problem relates to artists and individuals who tap into the collective unconscious, facing the challenges of carrying emergent archetypal potential. (Note: The timestamps provided are approximate due to limitations in the transcription accuracy.) 29:35 🧪 Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" explores Promethean power, the creation of life, and its unintended consequences. 33:42 🌩 The Prometheus myth and Frankenstein's story both involve the use of lightning, symbolizing the fire of life, to bring creations to life. 36:00 💭 Prometheus represents forethought, while Epimetheus represents afterthought, highlighting the importance of considering consequences before taking action. 39:33 ☢ The example of Oppenheimer's involvement in nuclear weapons highlights the potential dangers of Promethean powers when used for destructive purposes. 43:38 🌐 AI represents a contemporary Promethean power, raising questions about its potential consequences and ethical considerations. 46:14 🎁 The Pandora myth suggests that hope, while seen as positive, can also lead to naivety and denial when not accompanied by foresight and intentionality. 56:52 🤔 Foresight, intuition, and intentionality are essential for understanding and responsibly harnessing Promethean powers, distinguishing them from blind hope. 58:12 🦅 In the video, they discuss the symbolism of an eagle, which represents a powerful and ancestral spirit that can be passed down through generations. 58:39 🦅 The dreamer in the transcript is entrusted with an eagle in a dream, symbolizing a legacy or something of great importance being passed down to him. 01:03:42 🦅 The discussion also touches on the importance of compassion and empathy in human endeavors, even in the face of powerful and potentially destructive creations. 01:07:18 🦅 The dreamer's dream suggests a transition in life, possibly involving a move overseas and the establishment of a long-term relationship, with the eagle representing a symbolic guide or protector for this journey. 01:24:36 🦅 It's important for the dreamer to reflect on his relationship with the eagle in the dream, considering whether it's a symbol of stewardship and respect rather than ownership and inflation. 01:26:09 🧙♂ The dreamer needs to reach back into time and tradition to learn more about the eagle, symbolizing the importance of ancestral wisdom and lineage. 01:26:51 🧬 The dream hints at the idea of a collective unconscious, where deep-seated genetic and instinctual traits are carried through generations, offering access to inherited wisdom. 01:28:09 💡 The dreamer is being taught how to care for and nurture something new, possibly symbolizing the need to balance aggression and assertiveness with tenderness and caregiving. 01:28:53 🦅 The eagle represents a powerful symbol, embodying both instinctual aggression and the potential for sublimation and higher aims, reminiscent of the Scorpio sign in astrolog
Thank you so much for this content. I’d like to emphasize that the American eagle is called ‘bald eagle’, which seems to reinforce the connection to the ‘completely bald old man’, and thereby the idea that the eagle represents the ‘spirit‘ that does not die and is transmitted.
53:00 I would agree with Joe that hope, esp a lazy hope without any dynamic energy which makes one act in the direction of a positive solution, is an evil. As far as Mandela's example goes, one doesn't really know if it was hope or something else which kept him alive and also it wasn't a cynic or a victim who came out. What the Buddhist and Hindu would say is that to break the delusion of a "past and a future" and all the experience of constant suffering/trauma/anger (past) or hope/fear/insecurity (future) is a whirlpool in which the mind keeps moving in meaningless circles

Love hearing abt the myths & the nature of man
Chernobyl, Fukushima….nuclear energy are you kidding? 😂😂😂🤦🏻♀️
we didn't have a tv OR we didn't have anything.
Yes, indeed very good. Can't restrain my urge to extend the last words to the outer world. There is little room for compassion in a capitalist system.
❤❤❤
myths are so broad as ... .
