You're either a professional woodsman or talented axe handler. You drive that axe like it's part of your hand or an extension of your arm. Outstanding.
I still enjoying visiting this video after all these years. I hope you kept that LP, they’re getting harder to find. I so regret not buying one of his forged small splitting axes. At least a good buddy purchased it so I get to play with it.
What I love is that the felling axe was invented in the USA by a need for better axes to cut trees. European axes brought over by settlers were not suited for it. I saw this whole thing about it on Axes on modern marvels the history of them. Awesome vid!
Your vid is really a pleasure to watch, more than once. In 60 years of packing an axe down here in Texas I've never once been smart enough to cook my bacon like you did - I'm off to the boonies in a day or two to try out a new GB axe (the little hand axe) but mainly to cook some bacon and make some coffee and show my wife this old dog ain't too old to learn a new trick! Thank you, Sir. It's a pleasure to subscribe.
i bought the small forest and its great ! they're both gonna be awesome quality so that shouldn't influence your choice, depends what you want really, if your gonna do a lot of trekking my choice would be the small forest. hope this helps
Trigger has been pulled, and a new GB American felling axe with the 31" curved handle is on its way! Thank you again for the great video, buyers guide, and reply's to my inquiries.
This video is what it's all about. You have all the ingredients and what seems to be a perfect recipe to satisfy my hunger for the "Outdoors" and Bushcraft. Excellent looking axe. It seems rather large, nevertheless you seem large enough to carry it well. Thanks for sharing the great outdoors with me, I wish I was there.
this video is amazing. the music is phenomenal and it is by far the best video about the american felling axe. im so jealous watching this. i miss the snow. Thanks Alpineassualt
Man that thing is beautiful!!!! I've got the wildlife hatchet, the Scandinavian forest axe and I love them. Great tools that I wouldn't trade away for anything. Now the long climb of saving my pennies for the felling axe. Thanks man for the great video.
If (and I mean if ) those are Vasque boots, Outdoor designs Gaiters, North Face pants, and a Bark river knife.... we have nearly identical gear. With the exception of my stolen axe, of course. Outstanding video. I'm going to check out some more. You may have a new subscriber.
S K I just sat down and watched this whole video. Great stuff , my wife loved the music and I had to download it. Thanks so much for sharing this with us all. Truly loved it.
Great video, I have watched it several times. One question: why not de-bark the branch that you use for the bacon? I do it because I was told that the bark is more likely to have bacteria and fungus? At least that was what my professor in school said.
The intro scene was just epic cool with you guys rolling into the bush with your axes on your backs and that outrageous music. Loved it This video is just a "10."
Make another video similar to this one. Time every connection of axe on wood with the beat of the music. Great music selection and there are moments when the axe synchs up with the beat - gives me goose bumps - powerful stuff. :)
Not bad! I have the scandanavian forest axe and love it but am going to give mine to my dad for fathers day and order the 32" inch or so american felling axe since I need a longer handle. This axe is something I would leave in my will to my son. They are that good and high quality.. Oh, btw, that first felled tree he cut down only took 14 strokes... Not bad.. Gransfors Bruks axes are one of a kind and will last a lifetime.
I've decided that instead of carrying a HUGE knife I'll carry an Axe and a field/camp knife! I do not have a high quality axe but man what a tool. Can't go back to a big knife now!
i made the same decision last year after using a RAT-5, a BK-7 and a machete. Even a small axe gets a LOT more work done with less effort and fewer swings.
Excellent. Again I thank you for your opinion. I don't think cords of wood are in my near future. If so I'll aquire a splitter too. I'll go with the 31-32". Take care
The thing I find amazing is the almost explosive way the axe chops the wood. I am used to seeing people chop away ineffectually with many other brands of axes. The GB just destroys the wood. It is fascinating.
Hey Brother...I got some footage of my axe and am ready to edit...but we are having a baby tomorrow...so It may be a few more days...Great vid as usual...keep up the great work
GB are the best in my opinion. I have two now but I’m really considering purchasing and taking the heavier felling axe on hikes. It’s worth the weight. Chop Chop
Hey great video as usuall skogkniv.I'm starting to think in your every trip you take the camera you take bacon as well. :D Don't worry we all love bacon and coffee.Great axe, great video as usuall.
When you tap a birch in this manner, you just push the small opening you made shut. The tree seals itself off. If you bore a hole to tape with an auger, then you plug the hole with a branch fit to the hole.
What is the music at the end of the video? I replayed the last few minutes multiple times while I was re-finishing an axe handle of my own. It was a great compliment to the work
Nice controlled cuts and accuracy at 10:22 and onward.. goodstuff and ya gotta love bacon in the woods the old way instead of in a pan.. thanks bro good to see the AFA in action. -Mitch
A nice video my friend. With your audio, I was waiting for Erik the Red with his young son Leif Erikson to walk out of the Woodland and into the camera's view with axes on their shoulders. Around the 11:00 min mark, I really liked your timing between the beat of the axe and the beat of the drums. It brought goose-bumps to my skin. :>)
Love your videos! You should seriously consider being in the film industry! Beautiful axe! The reason your AFA is perfect is because it was forged by LP( Lennart Pettersson) He is arguably the best axe-smith in the world! The others at GBA are nowhere near him! I have seen some horrible axes by them and much like you I also like things to line up and be symmetrical as well but LP and KS are the veterans and very consistent! Heil the axe is back project!
Babak P Doesn't seem likely to me. If I taped over the initials on the axes and had you decide which was by who, you wouldn't stand a chance. They are all consistent.
Trust me, I know his work anywhere I see it! I just saw some SFA recently all done by UN, I doubt you would have picked any of them, Nothing lined up! Thanks for your reply and please continue making these videos! They are amazing!
+Babak P rubbish I just purchased a SFA online forged by Ulrik Nilsson and it's as good as anything I've seen by the others,do you honestly think Gransfors would employ him if his work was of a continuous substandard??
Yes I know you got it online! You have probably seen only the one you have ordered; I see them almost every day and I have been seeing them on regular basis because I am the one who has to unpack them and sort them out! When you see just one and nothing to compare it to it will look awesome and perfect but believe me when I tell you the quality has gone down drastically in the past 2-3 years! It seems that they are now making them in a hurry! In fact we had to send a few back because believe it or not they had vertical cracks around the axe lip going half way towards the eye! If they had actually checked it I doubt they would send them like that! And recently there has been a lot of them that are just not straight, when you look from the back of the pull towards the upper corner or toe of bit most of them are way off! These are the minor issues just to name a few! I do agree that they are still better than most other axe companies! The only smith who is very consistent is LP!I am glad you have a good one and I hope it serves you well in your outdoor ventures; Thank you for your comment! Cheers
It's nice to hear Wardruna being used as a video's music! Strange thing is I was listening to "Hagall" no less than five minutes before clicking on your vid. I had to check four times to ensure it wasn't my own music playing! Anyway, it's good to see a GB, being used properly I might add :)
Could you do an axe sharpening video please? I need to get better at sharpening my GB. Also any tips on becoming more accurate with my swings, or is it just repetition?
Thank you for the reply. I drove 90km today to purchase the Wetterlings.....My findings were similar. I came home without. I will order a GFB AFA. I am taller at 6'2".... would you recommend a 35" curved handle or stay with a 31" like yours?
I am 6'1", same height basically and I have the 32" version. You can still pack it out. I prefer this size, if I was splitting cords of wood or felling large trees then maybe the 36" would be better.
a woonderfully evocative video skogniv, the music lifts it so. almost made me want to get the axe but i have ingherited a felling axe just need to rehang it. just a little envious of where you live the SE UK is sadly a little too urbanised we have some good woodland but much is in private hands :0( and getting permission to be in them is a right pain
I'm assuming by sfa you mean swedish or scandinavian forest axe? I was wondering which you prefer more, the american style or the swedish style? I was kind of already sold on a scandinavian forest axe from wetterlings.
You chop very well! good job. there is a thought that Wetterlings axes penetrate wood deeper. Can you tell what do you think about this thought. I am planning to buy one of those Swedish axes but can't decide wetterlings or GB?
You're either a professional woodsman or talented axe handler. You drive that axe like it's part of your hand or an extension of your arm. Outstanding.

I'm stupid Kevin. I sold that. A regret it immensely. Like I think about it at least weekly of how stupid a move that was. 😒
This video has been in my favorites Playlist since forever. Still there. 😎
Yeeeaaahhh, Buddy.... on my favorites list. Had a long, hot summer getting ready for that fall and winter to roll back in.
GB American Felling Axe has been on my wish list for awhile. It's a beauty.
nice video. like the coffee and bacon. Axes looked like they worked really well. Makes me want to get outside, right now!
Thanks!

I always enjoy watching your videos when I can't get out myself, thanks for "taking us with you" sir
This is a great video. Loved every aspect of it: the filming, the music, the pictures. Just the best
this video is amazing. the music is phenomenal and it is by far the best video about the american felling axe. im so jealous watching this. i miss the snow. Thanks Alpineassualt
Man im liking that axe !!! super head cover you made, nice,nice,nice...bacon looks good 2. Greg.
Man that thing is beautiful!!!! I've got the wildlife hatchet, the Scandinavian forest axe and I love them. Great tools that I wouldn't trade away for anything. Now the long climb of saving my pennies for the felling axe. Thanks man for the great video.
I love cutting live trees! Thinning is soooo much fun.
I ordered the pack saw yesterday, and the axe last night. You guys are killing me! lol. But we gotta keep those fires burning, eh. ~Wolf
HAHAHA LOVE that you chose Wardruna lol great stuff my man lol

Lone58 - what is the name of the music and who is it by - much thanks
My dream axe... thanks for the video!
Great video, I have watched it several times. One question: why not de-bark the branch that you use for the bacon? I do it because I was told that the bark is more likely to have bacteria and fungus? At least that was what my professor in school said.
Good video good music and nice axes! :) Thx for sharing.
I was stalking for some Gränsfors Bruks review and then, hearing Hagall in this one made me buy one of their axe. Good job Sir!
that is a beast of an axe
cool demonstration of its capabilities
mmmm bacon
thanks for the video

Nice to see a skilled outdoorsman in action with a great Swedish axe.
killer music and great video.
Nice video thanks sharing. Take care and have a great day,

12:36 special kind of love towards tools :) Great vid man, and I love the whole concept behind the project. Cheers friend!

You call that a knife? Chuckles* points to opinel 13, now that is a Big knife
Brilliant video!
Good video. Loved the music.

I own one of their axes, and I love it !!
Damn! You got through that log in 14 strikes. Nice axe! and, like the other comments, great music. Great vid.
When you tap a birch in this manner, you just push the small opening you made shut. The tree seals itself off. If you bore a hole to tape with an auger, then you plug the hole with a branch fit to the hole.
CONCUR. THE AXE IS BACK AND STRONG. GRACIAS AMIGO FOR THE VIDEO
What is the music at the end of the video? I replayed the last few minutes multiple times while I was re-finishing an axe handle of my own. It was a great compliment to the work
Excellent axe.

Herlig munnharpe og suggerende sang. Godt norsk :)

You've got some accurate swings there bud. Looks clean.
Love the music ignore the haters, your going to the trouble not them. If you reply they win.
Thanks for the video.

That axe looks huge; i love my smaller gransfors axes but maybe it's time for a beast like that to get added in the collection
@66yurt The style is American. Also the man who designed it is a wooden ship builder in the Eastern US. GB made it based off his design.
this was a great video.
really nice axe,, good size
fredde
Nice vid as always!! love the music, love the axe, love ....breakfast; i'm going to eat something!
Groetjes
I have their broad-axe and my favorite, the small forest axe.
You can't beat their axes.
It's nice to hear Wardruna being used as a video's music! Strange thing is I was listening to "Hagall" no less than five minutes before clicking on your vid. I had to check four times to ensure it wasn't my own music playing! Anyway, it's good to see a GB, being used properly I might add :)
Subbed...what a beautiful video...
@DarkGallahad
The best axes is from Sweden, bouth SA Wetterling and Granforsbruks.
Great video. Anybody know where the music in the intro is from? I love it!
Super Axe!
Harry
Could you do an axe sharpening video please? I need to get better at sharpening my GB. Also any tips on becoming more accurate with my swings, or is it just repetition?
Which model is the smaller one.
which do u think is better, a hatchet, or a parang?
I absolutely love that Adirondacks stamp.
Sheesh, and I thought my troop's coffee percolator was old-fashioned. It may as well be a fancy Keurig next to yours.
how did you get that rich finish on the gb?
where do you get the music?
Great video, Skog! You guys finally defrosted, eh? Good to see. I found the music in this video absolutely wonderful, from start to finish!
Thank you for the reply. I drove 90km today to purchase the Wetterlings.....My findings were similar. I came home without. I will order a GFB AFA. I am taller at 6'2".... would you recommend a 35" curved handle or stay with a 31" like yours?
I have 2 Felling axes, small splitting maul, large splitting maul, Swedish forest axe and the Hunting axe. Yeah, these ARE the chit
I am 6'1", same height basically and I have the 32" version. You can still pack it out. I prefer this size, if I was splitting cords of wood or felling large trees then maybe the 36" would be better.
where did you buy your billy Tins?
a woonderfully evocative video skogniv, the music lifts it so. almost made me want to get the axe but i have ingherited a felling axe just need to rehang it. just a little envious of where you live the SE UK is sadly a little too urbanised we have some good woodland but much is in private hands :0( and getting permission to be in them is a right pain
i am 6'2'' and 210 pounds. Would you say the 31 inch handle is much different from the 35 inch handle? Which one would you recommend for my size?
what kind of cup is that? awesome axe!!
where is this at?
Great Video. What music did you use on the intro?
What is the music in the beginning, please?
is that 31 or 35 inches handle?
Where do you even do stuff like this?
great vid.
what's the knife?
I have this axe and it's razor sharp, holds edge very well, hence the price :)
I'm assuming by sfa you mean swedish or scandinavian forest axe? I was wondering which you prefer more, the american style or the swedish style? I was kind of already sold on a scandinavian forest axe from wetterlings.
@SlinkingTiger I got the 32" version.
What is the spoon and fork set you are using in the video? I like the looks of those better than the sporks a lot of people carry.
How much money did this axw costs ?
@Straightcutspike Head weight is proportional to the helve length. So it works fine. The knife I made. You can see a previous video where I make it.
You chop very well! good job. there is a thought that Wetterlings axes penetrate wood deeper. Can you tell what do you think about this thought. I am planning to buy one of those Swedish axes but can't decide wetterlings or GB?
If you mean the Bone colored handle one, that is an Adventure Sworn blade, with my handle job.
I can feel my hair turning blonde and my testosterone level rising. Cool.
you closed the hole you put in the tree right?
