I just found 2 gränsfors axes at my grandpas house. And i showed it to my father and he told me that he had bought them when he was in the same age as me (16) and forgot them in a very hidden place. So those axes had been laying on the ground pretty much untouched for 25 years. And after some grinding they was just as good as new. Wonderful
I agree they are the best axes available … 👍 and I’m American . You might be surprised to know a lot of Americans love the Gransfors Bluks . Great Video ! 👍
I'm also american and I was recommended to them by another american! Probably we just don't know what we don't know...i hope to get one of these axes soon
Stellar father’s day gift my wife got me. Large splitting axe. Like butter. Guys envy it. Wives noticed. More in the neighborhood now. I also got the hatchet from my sons. Been splitting firewood for 43 yrs and have used probably 6 kinds. Gransfors by far the best.
I've had the small forest for 6 years and just got the Scandinavian forest axe. Beautiful axes on every level. Took the small one and a cheap mora camping in 14 states out west (US) and it was a pleasure to have them. Also have a Fallkniven F1xb on the way. Love Swedish steel. Great review!
Glad you know what many Americans will say lol. Watched the video and never did see any type of "test", but oh well... I'm glad I found this video. I own 2 GB axes, 8 Morakniv knives and a pair of Sordin Supremes that were made in Sweden. I didn't know I was supposed to only buy American made products and think a certain way. From now on, it's USA only! Thanks for helping me see the light!
Greetings. I greatly enjoyed your video! I bought the hatchet last year. Incredible craftsmanship and feel. I am an American. I believe these are the best in the world. I’m not sure why you think many Americans would think otherwise but, speaking for myself as an American, I agree with you, friend. Perhaps Americans aren’t what some would like us to be perceived as. Thank you for you great and detailed video. I will be buying the axe next, the Lord willing.
Hallo Bornagain, my comment about american was not meant as a critic, I just thought that you american (thinking about your wast country with woods) had your own tradition on Axes and maybe your own produceres that you think is the best. But im glad to hear that you enjoy Gränfors, like I said it is the best Ax I have meet in my life
A GFB SmFA has been with me and treated me well for 15 years of northern MI winters Now that i am down in Florida, it doesnt get used nearly enough I love giving them as gifts to people that have no idea. Hopefully spark an interest in em. Best $120 i have or ever likely will spend. Truly fantastic product, from a great company. Love em.
I don't have much experience with axes & hatchets, but as an American, I agree that Gransfors Bruk makes the finest axes. I own four of them. The only thing that might out perform them is a custom axe & they are way more expensive & the waiting list is months long. I've only seen custom axes in videos, but I'm sure that Swedish steel is better. I've had my Small Forest Axe for more than 25 years & it still is as good as the first day I got it.
@@1stcSOLDIER That's nothing. I think the waiting list for a Randall-Made knife, regardless of model number, is up to nearly 10 years now. Don't want to wait that long? There is one source that gets the most popular models practically immediately, without too high a mark-up. Though that's a pretty well-kept secret, and I'm not going to be the one who spills the beans. Sorry. Don't want to wait? Get a used one, at at HUGE mark-up in price from the private sector. And, hope you're not buying one of the numerous fakes out there. The waiting list for a GFB is actually very reasonable, by comparison. No, I don't think they make the best hatchets or axes in the world. But that doesn't matter. Most folks think they do, so that drives up the price as demand is much higher than the supply can keep up with. I do remember decades ago when GFBs were actually reasonably priced and there was no waiting list.
I have a Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet, a Wildlife Hatchet and a Small Forest Axe, and they are truly things of beauty in addition to being phenomenal wood processing tools! I just got my SFA and as I held it I became immediately aware that this was an order of magnitude above my Mini and Wildlife Hatchets! I paired my SFA with a Silky BigBoy 2000 Outback Saw, making an extremely capable, compact and lightweight set. I can't think of anything as capable, compact and lightweight as a GB Mini Hatchet, Silky Gomboy Curve Outback Saw, Mora Companion Heavy Duty Stainless knife and a Victorinox Huntsman SAK to either carry or to add to a small emergency kit. Whilst the Silky 360mm saw is only slightly heavier than the 240mm version, the additional length makes the difference in a small kit (to be carried in addition of one's gear). Likewise, the GB Wildlife and Outdoor Hatchets are not that much heavier than the Mini Hatchet, but they are significantly longer, affecting their inclusion into a small emergency kit which would include more than just cutting tools!
Thank you for the comparison. I've just been to Sweden for the first time and all the fellow Germans I met (all of them) had one or more Gränsfors Burks axe, so I bought one as well. I am never going back. So so good. Greetings from Germany :)
I am researching the wildlife hatchet and saw your video. Needless to say I was disappointed to see you didn't test it with the others. If a product is shown on the cover picture then I feel you should include it in the test. At least you said you weren't going to test it before you started so I could skip to the next video.
Interesting that they went with a Hudson Bay pattern head on the small Outdoors hatchet. Some look down on that pattern. But it is easy for a blacksmith to make and has been made for hundreds of years.
In the USA, I would say that Gransfors Bruks are reknowned recognized as the best of the best axes, although they are expensive on this side of the Atlantic.

LOL, always drinking :) nooo never drink and split wood. knock on woods I have never got a injury spitting wood, in sandals or in boots. but i tend to agree, Boots are the best when working in the forest :)
I agree, Gransfors are the best. The steel, the handles, the fit and finish; awesome. Most axe makers put unreasonably thick handles on their axes, Gransfors does it right; a slender flexy hickory handle with perfect grain. Also, the factory edge is just amazing. Usually a new axe needs a bit of work to achieve a decent edge. I will have to give an honorable mention to the council tools usa made axes in their sport utility line. They are not as polished as far as finish, but they are less than 1/3 the price , have great steel sharp out of the box, and they also got the handle right.

I took one swing and I was so impressed. So I came back inside and was admiring it and then started noticing all the flaws and was so disappointed. Gränsfors Jägerbeil (Hunter´s Axe) is the best in my opinion... Kannst du ja mal ausprobieren bzw dir besorgen ich finde sie ist der beste Kompromis...
Can anybody tell me why gransfors stopped installing the steel pin in the wedge? I actually ordered a pin with my new one to install in my new large forest before I swell the handle with linseed oil I'm sure the quality is still good but the last thing I want is a loose axe head if there isn't a failure in the handle
I keep seeing these axes failing, chipping and falling apart. This seems to be a thing in North America. Does anyone else have any input on this subject?
Was interested in a gransfors but will probably get a council velvicut. Seen many videos and read many reports on axe forums where poeple are seeing these premuim axes chipping on their first swings into a softwood. Absolutely not the best axes in the world.

Gränsfors Jägerbeil (Hunter´s Axe) is the best in my opinion...
Kannst du ja mal ausprobieren bzw dir besorgen ich finde sie ist der beste Kompromis...
Hallo, the Hunters Axe, is between the Small Hatchet and the small forest ax, is that not so?
I will see what I can do :)
Great video thank you
Great video!!!👍👍
Thx :)
Gransfors is best in states, but Council tools have some good products and old Plumb and Sagen Chemical equal.
Gba amazing !
Maybe check for „Prandi“ Axes from Italy.
Thx. I will try that :)
Me: Thor? Really ?
You: splitting firewood by hand
Me: 😱... you are the Thor alright
LOL, you know it :)
I don't get your comment.
@@TheSpekkel1 , just agreeing with you, prob. my english is not that good :)
@@Thoristesting Ok :D
Ok, so as bias as bias can be, right from the start. How much is it?
I love my Gransfors mini Hatchet. I need big axe for april/may and i go buy ONLY A GRANFORS
Godt at se du bruger sikkerhedssandaler : )
Hello good vid and i have a small felling axe on route:] You seem to understand how the axe works please protect your feet:]
Hi Cory, I know those feet and legs, I try to remeber working with axes :)
The company is still amazing. Love it.
:)
No sir, us Americans jump through hoops to try and get one since gransfors don't ship to the US.. we know they're the best lol
KÖNIGSEGG OF AXES........ELEIKO OF HATCHETS.... THANKS
Wow Sweden looks like my back yard ha ah i live west of Seattle.
Great video!
Thx :)
Axes for grandfather, father and son ....... 👍
I am born in America and bought two axes from Grans Fors Bruks. No American axes for me.
Hallo, Gränsfors rules :)
Look at Liam Hoffman's axes.
I do have some Swedish and Norwegian DNA but I am mostly Scottish and English.
We don't have a better axe in America, I have three GF, never found anything better. Skoal~
Skål :) No GF is a lifetime ax
Denglish?
Trust me - America shares your opinion on GB axe
:)
I just wish they weren’t so expensive 😟
The first one looks like a Hudson bay design
Hi Ethan, I might be inspire by it, IT a new design from Lars Fält and it dose look differnet than the standard Gränsfors more tomahack :)
I have a number of gfb axes and they are great i also like the helko werk axes I have and a lot of antique bits that I've re handled
@@ethanamldon5657 Uhhh Helko is great also
