Thank you for this VERY detailed review. I've looked everywhere for reviews I this and other name brand packs, but this is the best one I've seen. Going over each feature and describing what it is/what you can use it for, excellent. There are others here that rush it, but this one is very good. I'm going to Europe on a trip and wanted a bag that gives me tons of space without being too big, compartment for notebook, and pockets for hydration bladder, electronics, snacks, etc. I won't be solely using this bag for the entire trip, but rather have it as my pack while walking around the towns. This should serve me well while waiting on the terminals but I can always come back and update once I leave and use this thing at the LAX terminals and in the towns in Europe.
I bought this in late 2011 and used it every day. The only wear is on the bottom of the pad in the back that rubs against my belt when I walk. Everything else about this pack is like new and it has been six years of daily use! I take it to work everyday. I also travel for work with just this pack with laptop, chargers, clothes, and an extra pair of shoes! When I travel, I expand the pack and use an Eagle PackIT folder for my clothes. I pack low-profile knit sneakers on the insides of the main compartment and go. Lately I started eyeing other packs because I was bored of this one I guess. Your video really helped me see this pack with enthusiasm again. So thank you for this video. My wife and I are leaving for a 11 day trip soon to a big city, then a national park and I am packing this pack with an extra day-pack, two jackets, chacos, power bank, camera, etc. I highly recommend this pack to anyone who wants a lifetime pack.
Writing from July 2022. Just found one of these in my attic, color bright yellow. Not sure whose it was but it's mine now! As a result, I cancelled an order for an Osprey Nebula 34 that I had placed earlier today, saving myself $135. It fits my new MacBook Pro 16 perfectly. I scored big!
One of the most outstanding reviews that I have ever seen. The pack seems to have everything. Loved the way you cycled in, locked the bike and did a practical review. Hope this pack is still available.
Thank you for taking the time to review this backpack. This is probably the best backpack review I have ever seen. I wish I had seen this before I purchased my backpack(another Osprey model).
Thank you for your review!! I've had this bag for a couple of years & it is great!! I take it to work every day & it stores all my stuff with a lot of room to spare. You've shown me a few features I never knew it had, namely the whistle & the option to stow away the shoulder straps.
Thanks, excellent review, you covered everything. I know you said you aren't an affiliate for them, but they should totally send you a pack for free as I'm sure this video alone has sold several of these packs for them. Thanks again.
Excellent review. I've been satisfied with Osprey day packs for hiking and this one would be a good addition for urban use. Thanks for the information!
ReviewOutdoorGear I just wanted you to know that based on your video I bought this pack. It wasn't easy to find. Osprey must have discontinued it. I finally found it at REI outlet. It only comes in one color (yellow). At first I had my doubts but after using for a few weeks now I love it. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to purchase one of the osprey stratos packs, either the 34 or 36. They sound like a great company. Thanks again.
almost perfect... only thing I miss are side pockets for water bottles... to be honest, I don't want to put a water bottle inside the main compartment...
Fantastic review! You might also try attaching the Momentum 34 to a Pack-Rabbit external frame. I have an Osprey Daylite that I put on a Pack-Rabbit frame and it is awesome! Among a number of other really innovative features, the frame stands upright on its own and has a flip-down low-profile seat. It is the perfect combo. So cool!
Wow! This is THE perfect pack for biking. I am so sad I only didcovered this now, because the new version is missing so many of the awesome features this on had (and even beimg smaller)...
Great review! I am trying to decide between Osprey and Deuter. I was leaning HEAVILY in the direction of Deuter. Your review has just got me confused all over again.
ReviewOutdoorGear i have the same dilemma here. Deuter (Giga office) and this osprey. I have tried the Giga office and it can fit my 17" laptop. I haven't tried the Osprey if it can fit a 17" laptop. Can you please enlighten me with this? thanks. By the way, great review!
I cant find this backpack anywhere!! do they still make it ?? why would they discontinue this, it's exactly what i'm looking for but cant find it anywhere!! :( anyone know?
thanks for the review buddy. Looking to replace my travel pack and I'm oscillating between Nebula and Momentum. I really like the laptop compartment at the 1st one. However the Momentum has a better shape, the rain cover, it's expandable and the fact that you can hide the straps is a bonus.
+Mauro Jr I love how well organized are the compartments and the storage space is huge. That separate laptop sleeve is perfect for shirts to keep the ironing to a minimum, slippers, etc. And also I like that the back padding is not stiff so you can fold it for storage. There are however 3 things I wish this bag had: -more color options. I got too many black things so I went with the green. Not bad but I wish they had a Navy. -more size options. a 30L would have been perfect for my needs. -a rain cover included at this price. The one that you can purchase separately is 20-40L and usually bulky. If i find the momentum I might buy it as well.
Just make sure to get this version of the pack. (There is a newer version out that lacks many of these features, not sure why Osprey decided to do that).
ReviewOutdoorGear Over here in Europe there's no store that still sells the older version that you reviewed. Is the newer one still worth getting? And what does it lack? Best review I've seen so far by the way, thanks a lot!
Ayoub Malkaoui , The newer one is actually not that bad, but it is missing some features that I really like (I don't have it, so I can't give you all the changes, but here is what I remember): 1) no expansion zipper, 2) no side handle 3) shoulder straps don't store away 4) the mesh pocket on the very back is much smaller 5) the size is 4 liters smaller, 6) missing 2nd small "phone" pocket on left shoulder strap. But don't get me wrong, if there is no way you can get the older version, go for this, it's still a great pack.
ReviewOutdoorGear Thanks a lot for your reply, but I still have one last question. Do you have any other suggestions of any other brand I should consider if I want to buy a commuter backpack? Especially one that's very good for biking with.
Ayoub Malkaoui , honestly the only other one I considered was a northface pack, but I don't even remember it's name, plus, it is was super expensive. Look at some of the other Osprey packs, they have others that are great. Hope this helps you.
@ReviewOutdoorGear: This may be the best video review I have seen of any type of product. You speak quickly and efficiently, and you pack this full of useful info on all the many, many features of this Momentum pack. Outstanding job. And quite an amazing pack, it looks like. Thank you for doing this for us. Was there anything you found missing on this, that you wished it included? Too bad Osprey discontinued the 34L size.
+Duncan Marsh , thank you! I'm glad you like it. I can't think of any issues I have with the pack, still use it and really like it. Yes, it is sad that it's discontinued by Osprey, but the 30 is still a pretty good option over others.
+ReviewOutdoorGear So I got the Momentum 30, and didn't like it as much as I expected. On the 30, it is no longer a convertible briefcase; they don't offer that function. And the quality of zippers and materials didn't seem all that great. Finally, most important, the back pad wasn't that comfortable. It's not that structured, and seemed to bunch the weight down at the curve of my lower back. I own two other great Osprey packs, so was surprised I didn't like this one more. Thanks again.
I am wondering to buy a backpack and by the moment I saw your video, I made my decision for the momentum 34. Unfortunately, I didn't see the date of your video. It seems Osprey stopped to made this backpack, they have only the Osprey momentum 30, but it does not have a lot of features the old one had.
Vinicius Hisao Suzuki You can still get it in Singapore. I bought one in the UK a couple of years back. Yes, this backpack is so good I started to look for another one and check everywhere but couldn't find one. I stumbled on it in one of the shops in Singapore and bought a spare one. Still see it just a few days ago .
I just saw this and I'm looking for a bag because I commute to school. How interesting that it happened to to be the same campus, WSU Spokane, holla Cougs.
One of the best if not the best reviews on You Tube! Thank You. The coolest backpack I have ever seen too bad its been discontinued. Question anyone. How durable are Osprey backpacks in general?
Hey Jorge, they are extremely durable. I've got two hiking backpacks (from Osprey), one of them are about 10 years old, and have been with me for numerous hikes all around Scandinavia, from hot to freezing. Even the mesh front pocket, which Oesprey packs are known for is still to this day intact, even though the pack is put down on that part everytime you take it off - and the straps/fit are just like being hugged by a teddy bear - nothing compares to the Osprey hipbelts.
Hi, Very detailed & informative review mate.. You kinda convinced me to go buy this backpack :) Although its the 34L Am looking out for reviews on a large wheeled backpack viz..Osprey Sojourn 80L or the Deuter Helion 80L. Any links or suggestions? Cheers! S
Thanks for the detailed review. I loved the features on the pack however can only see 30 and 22 packs online. Can you tell which features are missing in Momentum 30 in comparison to 34.
Pack sounds perfect, except I need better waist straps (I have another osprey day pack, in the waist straps are too). Any ideas for another pack? I'm leaning towards a osprey hiking daypack, but those don't have as good of compartments as a commuter pack..
Thanks for the video. I’m looking for a backpack that I will primarily use for commuting, and occasionally for travel and hiking. Do you think it would be comfortable for 12+ hour day hikes? Also, can it handle sweaty, several hour long bike rides? Can you wash it? I should add: for me it’s between this and the deuter giga 28l backpack.
I absolutely LOVE this backpack, but it is extremely expensive. I went to REI just to check this out today because I was looking for a laptop capable backpack for school (I also take the subway to school, it would have been great). If my dad and I had the money to get this, it would have been great. Absolutely great backpack and I love everything about it.
+Labib Mamun, The 30 is actually not that bad, but it is missing some features that I really like (I don't have it, so I can't give you all the changes, but here is what I remember): 1) no expansion zipper, 2) no side handle 3) shoulder straps don't store away 4) the mesh pocket on the very back is much smaller 5) the size is 4 liters smaller, 6) missing 2nd small "phone" pocket on left shoulder strap. But don't get me wrong, if there is no way you can get the older version, go for this, it's still a great pack.
I've 4 OSPREY BACKPACKS.All are good except for one.The stiches gave way and tear around the stitches. I sent it Osprey's authorised dealer in Spore?on the 8th January 2015.The dealer name is Sport Connection at 81,Genting Lane #05-01/02/03/04 Everich Industrial Bldg Spore PC349566. And until today 27,Oct.I've not got it back. The repair note no.1409.
Looks great but as a six year 20 mile a day bike commuter I could not see carrying that thing on my back when I can have panniers. Maybe for short trips in town.
Love the review, just as the review of the Aether (that review was the one that convinced me to buy it or well the Ariel), anyway... How much does this fit in terms of clothing? Might be a bit of a vague question really, but I'm looking for one backpack to use for school/work and just staying elsewhere (city - not camping) for a weekend or similar in length. So right now I'm trying to decide between this one (well the 30 litre version as the 34 doesn't exist anymore) and the Osprey Nebula. The Nebula seems very, very roomy when it comes to clothes and/or luggage organisers, but I can't decide whether or not this one would be more suitable. I like the appearance and some of the features more of this one than the Nebula, but at the same time it looks abit narrow and smallish or rather it seems like the space is divided between too many different pockets. Have you tried to use it for some extra sets of clothes?
+Amira C , funny you might ask! I actually took this as carry-on for a three days weekend trip out of town. I had 2 changes of clothes inside, my laptop, a pair of dress shoes, camera gear (rebel t2i with large lens), toiletries, some snacks, and a bunch of other stuff. It all fit! I was actually amazed a 2nd time at how ridiculously well designed this pack was. And it fit into the overhead racks on the plane as well. I would recommend it in a heartbeat!
очень крутой обзор, очень хорошего и продуманного рюкзака. Парень молодец, все показал, все обьяснил!!! SUPER!!! Оператор пару раз засыпал, и снимал землю )))))
Hi, I was wondering if you don't get actually to sweaty with the material on the back of the rucksack? I have noticed that the Momentum 30 and 34 have complete different material on the back. Could you tell us more about your experience ?
I'm looking for a backpack that I can use to store clothes and stuff I need for a few days. I know its more of a day pack/commuter, but I know I'm going to be packing fairly light. Would I be able to carry a pair of jeans, a couple shirts plus a few necessity items in this pack?
What is the size of your backpack? You've said this somewhere in the video but i've can't recall it. I'm 5"2 and is planning on getting a medium/small of the Opley Momentum 34.
Great review of the pack, alot of other reviews missed some of the features. Is this the carbide color pack? I just picked up the carbide color, it was that or a yellow bamboo color, but I couldn't find that many in stock, so I purchased it. I now actually read ur comments & see that they have a newer, less featured bag in place, so hopefully I didn't get that one. Is it still called the momentum 34? Thanks
Jaystonishing I agree that deep stretchy mesh pockets on the sides R ideal for carrying beverages, however I believe the zippered side pockets on this one while not ideal for carrying water bottles, would suffice
I'm having a hard time find the Momentum 34 online, only the 30. Any online suggestions? I've tried REI, Osprey, Back Country, Back Country Edge, Amazon, eBay (has it in that ugly yellow).

Thanks. I saw them, but wasn't too hype about the yelp reviews I saw. I suppose if you're suggesting it, I should give it a try. Besides, they have a 20% off OOPS discount going on now so the pack is about $100
Thanks, Eugene for this great review. Just went to buy it, and it turns out Osprey replaced the 34 with 30 now, and it seems the 30 doesn't have that cool pocket where you can hide those straps, so it's not quite the same. Do you know what other differences are there between them two?
+Giora Mozes , The newer one is actually not that bad, but it is missing some features that I really like (I don't have it, so I can't give you all the changes, but here is what I remember): 1) no expansion zipper, 2) no side handle 3) shoulder straps don't store away 4) the mesh pocket on the very back is much smaller 5) the size is 4 liters smaller, 6) missing 2nd small "phone" pocket on left shoulder strap. But don't get me wrong, if there is no way you can get the older version, go for this, it's still a great pack.
Hi this pack is not available anymore. Osprey discontinued it. Do you have any alternate suggestions ? I'm looking for 30-35 litre, shoulder and waist straps which can be stowed away and it should be comfy. I'm flexible on the rest of the features. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone!! This backpack available now, here: www.ebay.com/itm/333601396955
nope, i could not find this momentum series anymore. Big fans of this osprey momentum
Not anymore
Aside from the strange camera dip this has to be one of the most thorough reviews I have seen. Hats off to you sir. A very fine review.

I highly recommend this pack to anyone who wants a lifetime pack.
+Sighthound Studio yes! It’s a shame they put this exact model out of production...
I scored big!

hahaha...that's awesome! Now you're probably even more happy with the bag!
I don't even have a bike and I watched all of the review .
It tells a lot on the quality of your videos .
Great review. I think this is the best all around pack ever. So sad to see its been discontinued. I would have purchased in a heart beat.
Thanks, excellent review, you covered everything. I know you said you aren't an affiliate for them, but they should totally send you a pack for free as I'm sure this video alone has sold several of these packs for them. Thanks again.
Great review! Definitely covered all the areas I was wanting feedback on. I'll be purchasing my Osprey Momentum soon!
Sweet deal!
Excellent review. I've been satisfied with Osprey day packs for hiking and this one would be a good addition for urban use. Thanks for the information!
Quite expensive in this country at £63. Also comes in Atomic Orange colour. Great features. In depth review, worth considering.
This is a great review, very well done. You thoroughly demonstrated the backpack.
I love this video and the other gear reviews you do. Please do some more!
Andrew DeJoseph working on it. Thanks!

I just wanted you to know that based on your video I bought this pack. It wasn't easy to find. Osprey must have discontinued it. I finally found it at REI outlet. It only comes in one color (yellow). At first I had my doubts but after using for a few weeks now I love it. Thanks so much!
Glad to help!
Phenomenal Review! youve sold me on this pack. Thank you
Excellent review. Thanks, I will be buying this backpack.
Fantastic review man. Well done. I think this just may be my next school bag.
great review. sounds like an amazing bag. can't find 34 though, largest now available is 30. might go for it
what an excellent and thorough review. thanks!
The camera is a disaster. I was dizzy. Very good review. I liked it. Congratulations.
such a great review, my search for backpack ends here :D
That is an awesome bag, They also have the Radial 34 which looks like a nice bag, wish I had both side by side to compare.
Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to purchase one of the osprey stratos packs, either the 34 or 36. They sound like a great company. Thanks again.
almost perfect... only thing I miss are side pockets for water bottles...

Great review ! Thanks for the presentation.
Awesome pack, and great review and video!
When I saw this video about 4 years ago, I completely fell in love with this backpack. Soon I will upload a review of this year's model!
Anybody know of any other bags like this with removable backpack straps to convert into a messenger/ suit case?
Great review!
Do they make camera bags?
Great video, thanks for sharing. Guess I'll be getting an Osprey now!

Filmed in/near Denver? Looks super-familiar! I love Osprey gear, btw! I must have, at least, 4 or 5 different Osprey packs! ;)
This is in Eastern Washington, yes, Osprey is awesome.
great review! thanks for sharing your experience.
does a 17 '' laptop fits in this backpack?

D M sorry to hear that. I really don't know why osprey stopped making this one. Its a shame - I've had several people go hunting for it everywhere!
Also nice bike. I just rode one and they are great.keep up the vids
Been waiting for a review of this, thanks for such a professional review. Already sub'd though but definitely got a like :-)
It seems like Osprey has discontinued Momentum 34 and now only offers Momentum 30. What a bummer!
Bummer indeed
Nice review. Well done.
The best review ever!!! Thanks a lot!!! I'll get one now!!! Is it a duffle bag too?
Hey, very nice review. Love the intro! Thanks
Thanks, great video. But WHY do a video next to a highway.
Could you tell me the model of helmet? Looks great. (just bought the backpack from REI, by the way!)
Sure, its a Giro Hex. Enjoy your pack!

Steven Lim Keh Chai Thanks for your reply! Do you know if its available online? Unfortunately, I am not intending to go to Singapore soon! :D
Hi Vinicius, I am not sure about that. Need to check with them. Where are you located ?
Steven Lim Keh Chai Hello Steven. I am located soooo far! In Brazil! :D Thanks for your help!
I am also interested, could you check the U.S.
I just saw this and I'm looking for a bag because I commute to school. How interesting that it happened to to be the same campus, WSU Spokane, holla Cougs.
Has Osprey stopped this product ? I dont seem to find it anywhere. Also, is the momentum 30 as good ? Whats the difference?

Thanks Guys. Got me the Osprey Comet and I love it! Now I want something bigger for hardcore camping. Jorge
Awesome video review buddy 👍🏼 loved the pack and those shoes look 👌🏼 What shoes are those??
Good review, really in details.

+energetically1 Haha!
Hi, Very detailed & informative review mate.. You kinda convinced me to go buy this backpack :) Although its the 34L
Am looking out for reviews on a large wheeled backpack viz..Osprey Sojourn 80L or the Deuter Helion 80L. Any links or suggestions?
Cheers! S
Great vid. I was curious about what brand of pants are you wearing? They look like a good pair for outdoor endeavors. Thanks.
What an epic review! Did you manage to review Osprey Radical 26L? That's the one I'm targeting
Thanks for the detailed review. I loved the features on the pack however can only see 30 and 22 packs online. Can you tell which features are missing in Momentum 30 in comparison to 34.
here is the 34: www.rei.com/product/878186/osprey-momentum-34-daypack-2013-closeout#descriptionTab
Excellent review. Seems this model is discontinued now.
This is an awesome pack, but I can't find the 34 in any color besides yellow. Any suggestions?
Tate Eugenio Try utilizing the Internet to search
Great review! Thanks
I wish they still made it
Pack sounds perfect, except I need better waist straps (I have another osprey day pack, in the waist straps are too). Any ideas for another pack? I'm leaning towards a osprey hiking daypack, but those don't have as good of compartments as a commuter pack..
What did you end up going with my man
Thanks for the video.
+Labib Mamun , look on eBay and other sites if you can, you'll find it's less expensive there.
+ReviewOutdoorGear Thanks for the advice. Even though the 34 model isn't available now, I think we will attempt to save up for the Momentum 30.
+Labib Mamun By the way, besides not having the cell phone pouch, does the Momentum 30 have the same features as the 34? Or is it missing something?
ReviewOutdoorGear Thank you for the quick reply, I guess I'll go for the Momentum then as it seems more suitable for what I want.
+Amira C Hi Amira, did you buy it? I´m also trying to decide between Momentum 30Lts and Nebula. Can you help me with your opinion ? Tks
Mauro Jr these are really hard to find today. You must look on Ebay. I think this is the only place at this point.
очень крутой обзор, очень хорошего и продуманного рюкзака.
Oh yes. There is plenty of room for that and much more.
What is the size of your backpack? You've said this somewhere in the video but i've can't recall it. I'm 5"2 and is planning on getting a medium/small of the Opley Momentum 34.
It's the Medium/Large
Great review of the pack, alot of other reviews missed some of the features. Is this the carbide color pack? I just picked up the carbide color, it was that or a yellow bamboo color, but I couldn't find that many in stock, so I purchased it. I now actually read ur comments & see that they have a newer, less featured bag in place, so hopefully I didn't get that one. Is it still called the momentum 34?
Thanks
Yes, I believe this is the carbide color. The newer pack is called the Momentum 30, so as long as you got the 34 you should be good.
bought yesterday, momentum 32.
This looks like a really awesome back pack is there anywhere I can buy one or Is it discontinued?
Seems like a great pack. But As a commuter, I want side pockets for drinks. I don't want them inside the pack.
Jaystonishing I agree that deep stretchy mesh pockets on the sides R ideal for carrying beverages, however I believe the zippered side pockets on this one while not ideal for carrying water bottles, would suffice
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess That name and profile pic doesnt do you any favours mate
I'm having a hard time find the Momentum 34 online, only the 30. Any online suggestions? I've tried REI, Osprey, Back Country, Back Country Edge, Amazon, eBay (has it in that ugly yellow).

These may be some of the last ones still out there!
Thanks. I saw them, but wasn't too hype about the yelp reviews I saw. I suppose if you're suggesting it, I should give it a try. Besides, they have a 20% off OOPS discount going on now so the pack is about $100
Great review
I saw this video and wanted one immediately but I can't fine the 34, only the 30. Where can I get that exact bag?
what the type of that light?
Good work buddy.
What about Deuter Trans alpine 30? Just bought one, I was pretty sure, but now, after seeing your review.. i dont know anymore
Yeah camera work is rough I was so uneasy with the zoom! But the best interview out there.
Cool backpack!
great review
what bike are you riding here ??
nice review btw...
That's the Giant Trance x4. Thanks!
Holy crap I didn't think backpacks could be full of so many resources
This is one of very few backpacks that's this awesome
+ReviewOutdoorGear What are your other favorites or what would you recommend as an alternative to this backpack?
Great review nice pack
This was in my opinion the best cycling backpack of all time - wish Osprey would bring this back. Everything else just is not great.
YES!!!!
I think their are some similar packs from deuter . it would be great if u can review them i.e similar to momentum series
спасибо за детальный, интересный обзор. С большим удовольствием посмотрел ролик, теперь ищу рюкзак))) Удачи!!
Успеха!
the new momentum is poor now, no more pocket one the front ... .. which one do you choose for comuting ?
I like this bag...
Hi this pack is not available anymore. Osprey discontinued it.
Do you have any alternate suggestions ? I'm looking for 30-35 litre, shoulder and waist straps which can be stowed away and it should be comfy.
I'm flexible on the rest of the features.
Any suggestions?
+Nauman Shah , Hi. I´m looking for the same. Have you decide?
