    Great video, thanks for taking the time to create an share with us. I have the same but in 48l capacity. It’s been great as a lighter alternative to my Aether 70l which weighs about an extra kg. The green model before had hip belt pockets and stretchy mesh on the front chest straps which would have been useful if they had kept them on. I believe the hip belt pockets have returned for the newer models. All the best.

      Thanks mate. Opinions are certainly divided about the hip belt pockets! But I guess it's better to have them even if you don't need them.

    I’ve got an earlier version from I think 2015. Absolutely Love it! 3 things I wish Osprey would bring back. 1) the sternum strap on my version gives you 3 options and no slider. I hate that slider. 2) hip pockets are handy. 3) the removable top lid compartment on my pack is a light weight cord and clip attachment. Very functional! My pack is still going strong. The only wear and tear is on the back mesh pocket. We do a fair amount of off trail so the pack gets abused. I carry my Zlite closed foam pad (36”) on the bottom with the compression straps and thus the bottom is like new. Great lightweight pack that is very comfortable even when carrying up to 50lbs! I’ve got a Zpacks Arc Haul 60L that weighs about 1.5lbs lighter but with weights over 30lbs it’s just not as comfortable…

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, I agree about the slider; it tends to creep upwards. But I'm pleased that the pack is still going strong for you :-)

    Excelente revisión. Tengo la misma mochila desde 2019 (mismo color y mismo volumen) es muy versátil y comodísima. Es mi segunda Osprey, la primera fue una Talon 44, una excelente mochila con la que hice muchos caminos de Santiago, muy ligera también (1140g) pero incómoda para cargas superiores a 11 kg, ya que sus correas son insufribles. Conviene pensar que las mochilas voluminosas (resistamos la tentación de llenarlas llevando más cosas de las necesarias) están diseñadas para llevar más peso con más comodidad. Ah, y que no os frustre lo de no tener bolsillos en el cinturón de cadera, son un tanto engañosos porque en la mayoría de los casos es una tortura volver a cerrar su cremallera cuando sacamos algo llevando lo mochila puesta. Prefiero acompañar la mochila con una riñonera.
    Gracias por el vídeo. Saludos desde España!

    I have the 48lt. I agree with your points on this. The thing that I think you left out is the lack of height adjustment. I spent a while 5 years ago going through Go Outdoors stores (mostly by phone) and others to find the size that I wanted. Turns out that many stockists only had the smaller model, the result being that many RUclipsrs with these packs have the sternum strap up around their throat. The pack back size is shown on a tiny tag by the bottom left strap.
    I have a 'Light AF' very thin foam mat (from Outdoor Gear Essentials) that is quite versatile and attaches to those bottom straps (that you removed). Synches in tight and I'm less worried about losing it.
    The squeak is a pain, but, as you mention, goes when using the load lifters.
    I've never used the brain as the capacity without has always been sufficient.
    I have recently used the Trekmates 30lt frameless pack at 500g, but have gone back to the Osprey as you don't necessarily carry the latter, you wear it. I also like the features of load lifters (missing from the Trekmates 30lt), side pocket access while wearing it, the pole stow on the go system (I think that's what it is called) and the stretchy outside pockets.
    Nice non presumptive video - thank you

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  5 месяцев назад +1

      Ah yes, the back length issue. I did consider it, but I see that the newer versions have a degree of adjustability, so I decided to exclude it. But I agree that it's common to see people using incorrectly fitting packs :-(
      I'm interested to hear that you use the thin foam mat. I've started to use one, too; it works well under my sleeping pad to stop it slipping around and provide a bit of protection and extra insulation. It's a bit bulky when it's folded up, but it's a very comfortable sit mat!
      Glad you liked the video!

    Thank you for the review, I have the Atmos pack for a while now and while it is an Osprey and has thus served me well despite its weight so I am looking to go lighter. But there are some major pain points with the backpack which is also shared here in the Exos pack. It is a shame since the back and hip support of Osprey packs is amazing.

    I have an Exos 48L, and it carries well, but for me, it has three drawbacks, the hip pockets are too small, I would not buy a rucksack with a mesh area on the back again, and I grew to really dislike the colour, black and green. Not sure about the green though, I'm rather colour-blind. I bought a Nigor 50L, and I like this rucksack much more.

    Excellent and very informative review. I have an Osprey Atmos AG50 and was thinking of going to the Exos as it’s a fair bit lighter….the only thing that’s putting me off is that my Atmos has that horrible creaking sound and no matter how I adjust the straps I can’t get rid of it…..sounds like the Exos has the same issue. I’m toying with the One Planet Extrovert as an alternative (they make great packs for us here in Australia).

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  5 месяцев назад +1

      Glad it was helpful!
      To be honest, I believe that the latest versions of the Exos have addressed many of the issues, including the creaking, making it a very appealing choice. The Extrovert is heavier, and I'm not sure if it has the cooling panel against your back, or if it's a 'bodyhugging' design?

      @@longsufferinghiker That’s good to know re the newer Exos. The extrovert harness is on your back but to be honest, even with the Osprey harness I still end up sweaty lol as even in winter it’s not that cold in South Australia.

    mate i am indebted to you for this warts n all review. been on the fence about getting one for a while asim just getting into solo trekking and started putting my kit together. the exos caught my eye and got good reviews but always wondered how it would hold up over time. i was very curious how the mesh back panel held up over time. and after 1000 miles hike it only needed a small patching that's pretty durable in my book.
    looks like i found my Christmas present from the family to me :)

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  2 месяца назад +1

      Actually mate Ive just bought a new one and they now have a stronger section of mesh at the bottom. Also the back length is now more adjustable, and there are small hip belt pockets too. I used it on the Cleveland Way 3 weeks ago and it was even more comfortable than the previous one. You won’t regret it 🙂

    Thank you for the review, this is excellent. I have been looking at Osprey packs recently and I like the cut of their jib (if that makes any sense). May I ask, what height are you, and what length pack did you choose? (M/L/XL etc). I was wondering if this makes a big difference. Many thanks again, cheers

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  5 месяцев назад

      The length adjustment of the current version is adjustable: “ADJUSTABLE AIRSPEED SUSPENSION
      Injection-molded ladder adjustment system provides 4" of torso adjustability.”
      So the latest version uses chest circumference to determine which size pack will suit you. www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-exos-58-s22
      For what it’s worth, I’m 5’9” and have the L size, but for the older versions it is your torso length, not overall height, that determines what size suits you.
      Hope this helps! 🙂

    Great video. I have the 48L version of this pack. Very valid points. Can I ask you what chest pod you use?

    • @longsufferinghiker
      @longsufferinghiker  5 месяцев назад +1

      Good question. I started with an OMM pod, but they are out of stock everywhere right now. But anyway I got fed up with it; it only has one pocket, and it’s not waterproof! I ended up making small grommet holes in the bottom because it kept filling up with water - not ideal when I was keeping my map and phone there!!
      So I’ve upgraded to one from Treadlite Gear: www.treadlitegear.co.uk/hill-and-high-street-chest-pack--multi-carry-bag-1192-p.asp
      Similar ones are made by Wild Sky Gear, too.
      It is made from DCF, waterproof, with 3 compartments. But I have changed the clips to ones that are easier to open and close.
      I’ll add the details to the description, too.

      @@longsufferinghiker I hiked the AT a year back so that’s 2190 plus town trips. I carry 45-50 lbs cause I like my luxuries. Yet, it’s not my base weight. My base weight is 30-31lbs I like to carry 5-6 days worth. I didn’t start loosing weight till I was half way through. And even then I dropped between 5-10 lbs body weight. I eat bro that’s the only thing I can say is I EAT! If I lost my way I could stretch and go I know a good 2-3 weeks in an emergency situations. I have a hammock so it has a little more gear to carry than a tent. mine will also turn into a tent with bug screen and all! I was in the military as infantryman, so I carried way more than that before. My knees don’t love me for it but I loved every minute.
      Now to the backpack. I started with a military 55l yet it broke first month. I bought a cheapo to get me to town and it just made it to town with me sowing straps back on once along the way. So I made it to town this guy suggested the brand. I bought it and it lasted the rest of the trip and the walk home. Then the straps gave away on it. It tares the bag when it does so you have to sow both back together at once so when it brakes again and it will. It’s makes it easer to sow. Not that it’s easy to sow either, lol! Fun times fun times. It’s all part of the journey. Your going to loose something that’s just the thing you need to understand. Nothing last forever not even us. We all loose this game in the end!
      Here’s something else to understand. I’m not walking sometimes I’m sprinting the trail. I can do 4 miles an hr on a good day. I’m averaging 3miles an hr. So I’m burning the trail up, lol! When I pass ppl they think I’m carrying light weight till they lift my back. Then first words are how the hell are you doin that, lol! Then my first words are I was infantryman in the army. It shuts most up about it. Cause some ppl want to complain on the trails and you just have to hike your hike and forget what others say. They love me when they show up to camp and I’ve collected wood ate dinner and started fire ready to roast marshmallows though…. I try to be a trail angel as much as I can. I have had guys take off from camp trying to beat me. Yet they left something. Pot water bottle bag ear buds phones etc. I’ll pick it up and catch up and give it to them. So this way the trail has good vibes…..
      Yet they still hate when I pass them hmmmm lol
      I know I when through at least 3 pair of shoes as well. So like I was saying I’m not mad these things break. I have an understanding that it’s goin to happen. Yet if a bag last me 3k I can be mad at that. There are worse bags out there. Trust me I know…..
      I he hiked half of America, lol

      Sorry but the new version isn’t as good The deal breaker for me is that you don’t have the easy detachable top lid. The flimsy plastic torso adjust. The hip belt clip is also very delicate compared to the older version. I’ve had the the same pack and color he has and gonna buy another one before I can’t. Also, if you’re buying a pack because of little hip belt pockets, you might be a newb.
