I like to spray a bit on the brush and brush it on as I find that if you squirt it on the wheel, half or more of it goes straight through and lands on the brake disc or the road behind. Saves a lot doing it this way.
Appreciate your opinion. I like Bilt Hamber products and all their products I have used provide good results at a reasonable price. Keep up the good work!
One benefit to Meguiar's Ultimate Wheel Cleaner is that it can be used on all wheel surfaces. Not sure about Bilt Hamber since it is not available in the states. It makes sense that Meguiar's strength is less given it is designed to be sold to the average joe. It would be interesting how Meguiar's Wheel & Paint Iron Decon D1801 would compare to Bilt Hamber.
Mr Muscle products use the same triggers on their products, so I'm guessing they're not exclusive to BH. On the plus side it means you can use them to hold different concentrations of BH products and benefit from the trigger design.
Search up fast shot wheel cleaner. I think this blows away Bilt hamber in cleaning power. Slims detailing gave me a sample of it to try out and its the only wheel cleaner I'd use
Meg's stuff is generally good, but I'm increasingly replacing my kit with Bilt Hamber. Use the Autowheels and Autofoam as part of my car washes. Also have BH clay bars, no need for expensive lube. Will be looking for other stuff of BH in the future - great stuff.
Megs has 2 classes of products, a professional line and a consumer line. The consumer line (the "Ultimate" line) is meant to be idiot proof. They make a much stronger and thicker Meguiar's D1801 Wheel & Paint Iron DECON - Pro-Strength Iron Remover, for professionals and "Prosumers" That Megs Ultimate wheel cleaner bottle you have in the video is sold everywhere here in the US. You can walk into some supermarkets and home improvement type stores and find it. Typically it's around $9US
I suspect that a more cost effective way of cleaning dirty wheels could be a 1:10 dilution of APC (Surfex), followed by a light spray of Auto Wheels or possibly 1:1 dilution of Auto Wheels because you would require less of the expensive product after using a relatively small amount of APC.
Thats exactly what I do too. Surfex removes a serious amount of dirt and contaminant, then autowheel just removes the bonded contaminants. Just using autowheel on its own sometimes needs a second hit as its fully reacted with the stuff that isn't bonded with nothing left for the stuff that is.
I bought this product and it is brilliant. Best alloy wheel cleaner I’ve come across in 15 years of car cleaning toil! It lifted the brake dirt very quickly and required minimal effort. Quick going over with the detailing brush, wash off with the pressure washer and then a hot water and car shampoo wash with a mit to get any last traces of the chemical off. Finally, a last go with the pressure washer. Almost new finish on 6 year old alloys which have covered 100k plus miles. 👍
We really need to get Bilt Hamber products in the US. We can get them but they are quite expensive as compared to the UK selling prices. The Meguiars products are quite less here too.
I've been using Autosmart Red7 on my wheels for the last 9+ months and, like the Bilt Hamber in your comparison, it 'lights up' very very quickly. How about a comparison with Red7 and Bilt Hamber?
Great video. Don't forget the BH can be diluted for subsequent maintenance washes which makes this really good value. Loved the pet tree dish demonstration.
Iv been using meguiars alloy wheel cleaner, was on a good offer at the time ( I would never pay full price for it) so decided why not. I find it reacts very quickly on my alloys. After this review think I will give BH a go. Thanks.
Was suprised you were comparing them as cleaners as they’re not they are fallout removers not cleaners , whee process is initial rinse, ( I still use a diluted tfr for this tbh shift dust and grease off the bat) these scrub with a wheel cleaner , rinse and then apply fall out let it dwell not dry, agitate with a detail brush and rinse 👍🏻 but should limit fall out remover to occasional cleans , was glad to see the BH product reviewed though , shows you don’t need a fancy designer label to be a good product, cheers John 👍🏻
I like the dirt simulator test; I would have thought Megs would have been a bit better than a pure fallout remover. But then you’ve proved that wrong. Thanks.
I very rarely use these sorts of products tbh. I use EZ Car Care Viper diluted down to 10:1. It's £28 for 5 litres so at that dilution ration I get 50 litres for £28! Because its so cheap I can really go mad with the application and it works an absolute treat on my Alfa's wheels, which are well maintained and cleaned weekly. I only use fallout removers when I'm dealing with really disgustingly dirty wheels with embedded iron contamination. Because I use them so rarely I just keep a few bottles of one I find on offer knocking around. Got 2 bottles of the TurtleWax one in their build-a-bucket deal!
Used bilt hamber today and couldn't believe how good it was. Caked on brake dust from race compound pads... Was thinking I'd have to get the wheels refurbed. BH removed it all despite having to give it a few goes and a bit of a scrub.
Great video enjoyed it a lot. Surprised by the results! Never used a bilt hamber product but will definitely try after watching this. Would have been great to see sonax xtreme full effect in with these two as well, as a product that is highly rated online
I'm looking at replacing valet pro bilberry wheel cleaner which I've used for years due to being able to dilute it. I want to switch to BH AW so I can use it all over the car as a wheel cleaner and fallout remover but it's double the price in 5l form to bilberry cleaner. How have you found AW when you've watered it down and how much have you diluted it and sill found it effective? Also what is SHD? questionsquestions!
Awesome tests, loved the bottle on the background saying "dirt simulator" :D Gave me a good old laugh. No surprises in the results, this might be a bit bold, but I feel using more budget and performance oriented products everyday, that "big companies are just a good label, a fancy bottle and some performance, oh yeah and an amazing marketing team! ( and I also try to save me mates always a couple of quids recommending good and working stuffs, sort of educating them into the right direction) Thank you once again for the good and interesting video Jon!
I'm thinking.. A quick fallout removal with Auto wheel, followed up by a thorough degreasing and cleaning with brake buster. Might be an amazing combo.
Auto Wheels is the best car product I have ever used, it the only wheel cleaner that get off all brake dust, and tar build up, it even get off that hard brake crust in the corner of the wheel that is almost impossible to remove, and the best thing about this product, once used, it keeps on going and stops brake dust from clinging to the wheel, so the next time you do a clean it super easy to remove.
At 1:10 dilution, Koch Chemie Greenstar works as good as Surfex as a wheel cleaner. I bought Greenstar as I was sold on its mild rust-inhibiting content for brakes, suspension, metal valve stems et al.
Having tried ",loads" of wheel cleaners over the years.. done good and done rubbish... I still come back to Auto Wheels... It is the best and if you buy in 5 litre drums it's even better value
I use built hamber for a good clean e.g pre show clean and to be honest, I use a cheap tin of spray stuff from a home bargains/pound shop for maintenance washes £1 for a 750ml tin lasts around 3/4 washes
Never used BH before, so after watching the video, I grabbed the discount code & bought the wheel cleaner & also some BH car shampoo too 👍🏻😁 Good review.
Another great video. As a recent Autobrite user I’d find it interesting to see how their latest Purple Rain 3.0 gel product would compare. It’s not the cheapest but is another UK brand to compete!
I bought & used Maguires and was impressed. When it ran out I decided to try BH instead as seen your reviews on their products. I think the BH is better. My reasons are it’s cheaper & I don’t think you need as much.
the speed of the reaction of this product is unrivalled. but it also just seems to do a better job cleaning out and breaking down the dirt in the wheel. its an incredible product. The icing on the cake is its considerable cheaper as well. I have a lot of trust and respect for megs but its out gunned here.
So I’ve been using the maguires stuff. Does a fantastic job of clearing the crap off your wheels. So what do I do to keep the brake discs clean? Start the car, floor it. Brake hard. Reverse, floor it brake hard. Discs are shiny every time. Yet I’ve just ordered a bottle of boot hamber 😂
7 dislikes lol.. Great test with a very honest answer. The fact bh can be watered down speaks volumes. The wheel could even be wetted and a slightly less aggressive pass with the spray gun used to the same effect. Keep up the good work mate
"Out in the field" that made me laugh. I'm slowly going through and ordering every single Bilt Hamber product you recommend, you're costing me a fortune!! Thanks for your content it's great :)
I spoke to the incredibly helpful Emily at Bilt Hamber last month and asked her this exact question. Auto Wheel is apparently slightly more clingy / viscous, and so is more suitable for a ‘vertical’ surface. She said that their composition is extremely similar, and that neither will damage paintwork in any way. Hope that helps. 👍
Great as always Jon. Something worth mentioning, it's not really your opinions, it's your experience that you're sharing in this video. There's a difference between them and experience sits way higher on the believability scale and that's what I appreciate with the videos you do. Keep up the excellent work!
I use the bilt hamber its great. Only thing I change is put it in a mister bottle. I don't like tje single her stream. You end up using far too much product less product better coverage saving money by using a mister bottle or jist change the spray head
For me bang for buck is Turtle Wax Redline. Can get it for around £10 per litre if you look about. Very good results., would be good to compare this to Bilt hamber. I'm reluctant to change from the Turtle wax because I honestly think it is that good
Bilt Hamber is quite caustic where zinc plated brake callipers and brake disk hubs are concerned. Regular use will result in the aforementioned components suffering from unsightly corrosion and rust!
The pinkish/purple meguiers rim clean is an excellent degreaser. The red bottle chrome rim cleaner will eat chrome if you arent careful I use the pink meguiers for engine cleaning, suspension cleaning really anything greasy.
I really love all your videos as I am a subscriber, but I get confused by all of the products that you mention that are based in your area of the world and realize that they are not available here in the U.S. But no matter what, I still enjoy your expertise and knowledge and always look forward to more videos from you Jon. Keep up the great work!
Is the BILT HAMBER better than DRAGONS BREATH?? (Valet Pro). That’s the best one I’ve ever tested. I’m really curious about your opinion. Thank you and greetings from Sweden 👍🏻 Love your channel! 😁
I don't know if you can get Elite car cleaning products in England or if they can ship it to you but there alloy wheel cleaner ( its alkaline not acid )is fantastic. They are a small family owned and run business and manufacturer their own products in Belfast, Northern Ireland supplying the trade and those in the know 😉. I've been using the stuff for over 30 years now and used neat or up to 5:1 and not just on wheels and tires but engine bays ect. You know its going to work well when you can see the dirt oozing out of your tyres, I've even used it on 40' curtain sided lorries and they don't half hold a lot of dirt.
Love these comparison videos John Expected the result, bilt hamber is top drawer I tend to use sufex HD at 10%, then finish with a small amount of this, it lasts and there is not much grime left for it. A great finish on the wheels that way 💪
Nice one Jon, a question though. Would either of the these be safe to use on wheels that have been ceramic coated? I’m getting a little build up of contamination in inaccessible areas that BH might shift, but the wheels have been treated with gtechniq coating.
I'm gonna say Bilthamber before I watch this, am I bias? Yes lol. Bilt hamber is one of the best manufactures world wide imo, makes you proud to be from the UK. Which is a rarity nowadays
I'm assuming Jon has chosen the ultimate wheel cleaner for this test because it's more of a direct comparison... If the pro version is but effective, then why would meguiars sell the ultimate version... Surely it isn't to maximise profit by selling a watered-down product to the everyday consumer??
Great video, really appreciate all the great content! Just a quick question, you mentioned you wouldn’t use the BH auto wheels every wash, what would you recommend on the “maintenance” washes for the alloys? I have ceramic coated wheels and looking for some advice on the best way to look after them.
Great video again. With the 5ltr option of the auto wheels is that a concentrate? If it’s not what would you recommend for a 5ltr concentrate for wheels? Many thanks
Thanks again for another great video.. I love Bilt Hamber products but have never used their wheel cleaner.. Have you ever tested Pro Clean, Dragons Blood.. I've been using it for a while now.. it is so cheap £25 for 5 litres and I think it works as good as Meguiar's.. would appreciate your opinion. Thanks again Jon 😎👍
Good thing about Meg's is that it can be used on a paintwork as well, but BH got different product for that (as you know very well). Nevertheless I still went and bought BH Autowheel and Korrosol instead, as this is best fall out removers by far!
Eagle One made an incredibly good & cheap wheel cleaner with that same fallout remover in it. They stopped making it??? I bought that stuff by the case
Hi John, have you tried any of the Nerta products. Currently using wheel shine super and its just amazing. The Blue diamond snow foam is really good too and a great price.
With these kind of products I've always cleaned the wheel first with a wheel cleaner that can be diluted then used a product like these once a month. Very expensive if you just use these all the time.
It was supposed to be a decomtamination product a few years ago with product like IronX, then it became a hype argument to sell wheel cleaners that cost 3-4 times what you could get. What i think meguiars have done, is a wheel cleaner that clings to the surface a lot more (gel-like), foams more hence being less concentrated in active ingredients for rust removal compared to BH
I completely agree with you Alan. I was just about to make the same comment. I use Iron X on my wheels only once a month, and wash them weekly with Meg's wheel brightener.
@@TerrificFlow It foams a little bit more.. but this whole like "cling" thing... I hear what your saying, but "lack of cling" is never really a problem for me with a spray on product.. but could it be possible they use low levels of TGA because thats quite an expensive component? dunno.. the megs product does clean wheel well... but the BH results were much better.
I hit my wheels with a cheaper PH neutral surfactant-based cleaner first, agitate, rinse, then hit them with the fallout remover-based wheel cleaner about once a month. My surfactant based wheel cleaner only works out to be £2.60 per litre, whereas the Fallout Remover wheel cleaner product is £11 per litre. Once thing i might do in future is use an IK Foamer for my surfactant wheel cleaner or use a car shampoo with gloss enhancers diluted in an IK foamer after using the Fallout Remover to give the wheels a nice glossy shine.
Bilt Hamber is like the "sleeper car " of the detailing industry..most of their products leaves you totally satisfied 😊 Very expensive to buy in India though!
Yes the BH is cheaper, but you also pay £5 delivery. Where the Meguiars i can call into Halfords and pick it up when i do my weekly shop. Ok, i could buy either off Amazon and get free delivery, except the BH is £4 more expensive on Amazon as it is direct from BH. In fact at the moment, Meguiars is £11.60 (minus 10% Blue Light discount) and BH is £17.90 delivered.

There's a difference between them and experience sits way higher on the believability scale and that's what I appreciate with the videos you do. Keep up the excellent work!
Sounds like the best method is to begin with the degreacer to remove any barriers which could inhibit the full potential of the fallout removal..?
I use the bilt hamber its great. Only thing I change is put it in a mister bottle. I don't like tje single her stream. You end up using far too much product less product better coverage saving money by using a mister bottle or jist change the spray head
For me bang for buck is Turtle Wax Redline. Can get it for around £10 per litre if you look about. Very good results., would be good to compare this to Bilt hamber. I'm reluctant to change from the Turtle wax because I honestly think it is that good
Your looking much healthier lately bro
Bilt Hamber is quite caustic where zinc plated brake callipers and brake disk hubs are concerned. Regular use will result in the aforementioned components suffering from unsightly corrosion and rust!
I’m sold on bilt hamber great review John.
The pinkish/purple meguiers rim clean is an excellent degreaser. The red bottle chrome rim cleaner will eat chrome if you arent careful
I use the pink meguiers for engine cleaning, suspension cleaning really anything greasy.
BH is superb - love it- my Lamborghini Ceramic callipers give off loads of brake dust- BH Autowheels makes easy work cleaning them to a perfect shine
I really love all your videos as I am a subscriber, but I get confused by all of the products that you mention that are based in your area of the world and realize that they are not available here in the U.S. But no matter what, I still enjoy your expertise and knowledge and always look forward to more videos from you Jon. Keep up the great work!
Can't you get Bilt Hamber online in the US. I've seen reviews on there Snow foam also and it's the best cleaning snow foam out there.
Would you lay a layer of foam over the Auto wheels to give some extra lubricity and add some degreasing capabilities
Nearly everything i use is Bilt Hamber, it's just so good, and so cost effective!
Would love to see you do a comparison between Bilt Hamber and Gtechniq W6. W6 is extremely potent, you should give it a try if you haven’t already.
Always love the comparison videos.
Love these comparison videos John
Expected the result, bilt hamber is top drawer
I tend to use sufex HD at 10%, then finish with a small amount of this, it lasts and there is not much grime left for it. A great finish on the wheels that way 💪
Great video as usual. Do these fallout removers dissolve some of your brake disc? Probably an insignificant amount of they do but surely they must...
You should have used the meguiars professional iron decon series.. But thanks for the comparison.
I'm assuming Jon has chosen the ultimate wheel cleaner for this test because it's more of a direct comparison... If the pro version is but effective, then why would meguiars sell the ultimate version... Surely it isn't to maximise profit by selling a watered-down product to the everyday consumer??
Another great video jon.
The result i got from BH when i first used it 12 month ago was outstanding.wont buy anything else now
Great video, really appreciate all the great content!
Just a quick question, you mentioned you wouldn’t use the BH auto wheels every wash, what would you recommend on the “maintenance” washes for the alloys? I have ceramic coated wheels and looking for some advice on the best way to look after them.
surfex HD 1:10 mate. in a pump foamer is popular.
@@ForensicDetailingthanks, what dilution do you use for that? Will that be ok on ceramic coated wheels?
Ah you mean 1:10? Not at 1 min 10 in the video haha thanks
Quality test review, thanks!
Hi Jon, you've done it again........ I've gone and purchased BH auto wheel cleaner 😉
Very expensive if you just use these all the time.
makes a lot of sense that alan.
BH needs to come to north America
